Vintage Southern 1930s-1960s - UK British Railways Archive Series

  • The Southern Region in the south east of England during the 1930s to the 1960s. Features rare cine films taken by C.J. Barnard, Jim Joyce, Ray Stephens, Phil Tatt and Edwin Wilmshurst.
    Locations include London Bridge, Croydon, Folkestone and Brighton. Early days on the now preserved Bluebell Railway from East Grinstead to Lewes. The branch lines from Dunton Green to Westerham and from Paddock Wood to Hawkhurst are explored towards the end of video.
    Narrated by John Scott Morgan and produced by Tom Ferris.

    36:12 This Famous Tourist Attraction The Bluebell Railway Near East Grinstead In East Sussex Near Brighton In England In The United Kingdom Was Opened In 1882 From The London Brighton And South Coast Railway In The Late 19th Century And When The Southern Railway And British Railways Took It Over In Between 1923 And 1948 By The Beginning Of The 20th Century. Thanks A Lot Mate. PS I've Been On The Bluebell Railway In East Sussex Many Times And It Was Super Awesome. X

      The Brighton Belle was electric, not diesel. Perhaps you are thinking of the Midland Pullman DMU's that entered service in 1960.
