  • TRAINS REMEMBERED VOLUME 2 of 3
'Railway Archives have enhanced these old videos to correct definition, colour balance and more'.
Like the earlier 'Trains Remembered Volume One' this recording takes a look at railways in
Britain from years gone by. Steam trains predominate on old footage skillfully transferred
to video tape to which sound has been added.
Among those railway lines and steam trains appearing are:-
    Steam Branches - Little Kimble; Marlow; Colnbrook; Epping (Essex);
Chesham (Met); Weymouth Quay; MTs Corfe; and Newport Pagnall,
    as filmed by Alan Willmott.
    Mr. Ralph Cooper shot a good deal on the GN Main Line from Kings Cross in 1959;
    we see A4's, A2's, N2's on suburban trains to Moorgate, then J50's - Bl's and BI7 -
Footballers in action - the prototype Deltic appears and we take a cab ride up the Main
Line passing the last somersault signal at Claypit and much more in this section.
Class 76 Electrics on the Woodhead Line with passenger trains - big sequence on the
re-opening in 1964 of the Isle of Man Steam Railway with a further visit made in 1971.
BR depot at KINGMOOR near Carlisle had plenty of stearn in 1966. We have a feature
on this, and the last steam specials, shot in colour, in 1964, by Ken Attwood.
On the KESR at Tenterden BR are still using a 'Terrier' for steam-hauled goods
trains - the line closes and we see the struggling preservationists trundling about
in old industrial locos and even a motor car takes to the rails at Tenterden - years later
the line re-opens officially in 1974.
A study is made of several preserved lines as seen in 1969.
London's Snow Hill Station closed in 1916 - we go on a press visit to see BR's plan
for re-opening the line to run through trains again.
Finally 1986: Sunday Lunch Specials on the Great Central Railway, 4472, Sir Nigel
    Gresley and others.
    Duration 58 minutes
Location sound and effects mixed with an economical commentary by David Coleman
Produced by Wilf Watters (Online Video 1986)

I don't know why you think that its a sad sight at all.!🥰🥰🥰!
    It's a FANTASTIC sight.!😲!
Seeing all the potential in the coaches, and probably other freight stock just sitting, patiently waiting for their turn to be sanded down and returned to fully working order.
    It's just FANTASTIC.

This documentary made me want to go to The Kent and East Sussex Railway. It was years before I went due to the distance it is from Yorkshire, but it was well worth the wait. Just as beautiful in the 2020s, as it was back in the 70s in this documentary.

A brilliant film Kings Cross in 1959 I was there through that summer platform 10 as it was then wonderful days! Still got my combined ABC from that year, great to see B17 Footballer in clean condition 👏 👌 So long ago now I was 13 that year, used to bunk top shed had an uncle a fitter there. Sundays was best always rammed with locos never copped 60004 William Whitelaw though.

Amazing. Imagine the smells, and the atmosphere. Personally, i was thrilled to see the early Deltic. The sound and smells of diesel locomotives are my childhood. Glad that people had enough foresight to save steam locos. Lovely video, especially since I'm very familiar with Peterborough station

At 22:18 richardj ellis needs to check the history. There was of course a station called Snow Hill under Holborn Viaduct and the only thing I would add is that it was renamed Holborn Viaduct Low Level in 1912 before it closed in 1916.

These are wonderfully evocative old films, but are you sure that the first location in the film, described as the Marlow branch, is in fact the Marlow branch? Some of it may be, but having studied contemporary maps and photos I cannot identify the location from 1:36 to 2:36 as being anywhere on the Marlow branch. The only other station was Bourne End and the station shown at 1:54 is not Bourne End or Marlow. The other oddity at 1:06 is the "Beware of the Trains" sign from the GW & GC Joint Committee which the Marlow branch was not part of, it was wholly GWR.

If some of these branches were still operated people would be moaning about the amount of traffic on our roads. Even rural routes could have become tramways to nearest town incorporating both rail and road.Sod the expense what do we pay taxes for?infrastructure makes sense.

The NEXT FEW things you say, REALLY confuses people who don't know anything about railways.!🤬!.
You make it sound like there's another station called Snow Hill, BELOW Holborn Viaduct Stn.😲.
This is of course NOT the case, and Snow Hill Stn. is actually in Birmingham.!🧐! AND... Is definitely NOT on the Southern region.!
