I hate to be that guy but... Good = fairly positive. Decent. Not bad. That means you are better than most, like top 40-30%.
Those adjectives do not mean to be in top 2% of the players, so yeah, if you're Diamond, congratz, you're awesome.

Im not sure if this is sarcasm but have you ever tried to not reach diamond while having a good mmr or good teammates?
Its basically impossible, you run it down mid, you afk, you trollpick, you do bronze bravery builds but you just cant manage not to climb so you dont even need to be good and especially not awesome.
But even if we say someone doesnt have a great mmr or doesnt have a carrying team that often then there are still champs that do strong things so easily that you basically cant stuck with enough games, i played morde for a while and very often in diamond and below you can simply r one of the carries before the fight starts and make it a 4v5, then you win the 4v5 in 60% of your games and you have a 60% wr, you still need about 500 games to get to diamond but it doesnt require that much skill.
Also there are a lot of boosted people, some play hardmeta freelo champs, some abuse duoq for great combos you would never have with any of the lowelo randoms, some buy eloboosting and some are just randomly affected by smurfs and good teammates.
Also you have to remember that it is still a video game, for most people its not the job, its not their life and its often not their main game so as long as you actually play the game you are often already better than most of the players because while you are learning new tactics they are playing valorant, maybe there are more than 2% of the players who are still actually playing the game but at least being as good as the average plat or diamond player really doesnt require that much.

That kind of is the whole issue of LoL community and level estimation. Anyone that's under your own elo is trash at the game, because everyone jus ignores how many years it takes just to learn lol. 150+ champs, item builds, wave management, jungle pathing, every matchup of your position, trade patterns, all those are needed to hit above silver. Yet because everyone who makes content about the game has played it for ages, everyone tunnel visions and forgets that silvers aren't noobs. Noobs are under lvl 30 players and irons, that's it. Even bronzes have fundamentals. Just not the same fundamentals as what a diamond+ player has

I think the point here is more that diamond more requires you to play enough. The MMR system tries to force you into 50/50 win rate as thats where it thinks you should be, so it keeps putting you against higher rank players until you start losing. If you are good and keep grinding eventually you will climb, but you won't do it quickly unless you are challenger so are massively better than everybody except the top 0.1%.
I've been watching Broxah climb back to Challenger and even he has days where he loses more than he wins so goes down in MMR, as eventually it starts testing you by giving you less MMR for a win than you lose for a loss, even if you are on a win streak, just to try its best to hold you back unless you are ridiculously good. The point being though, Challenger players don't get there by being awesome at the game, playing 2 games a day and always winning them, they do it by grinding out 10-20 games a day so on average their higher skill shows through and lets them climb.

i don't know.. i think they are really oversimplyfing it.. ( im a Diamond Player, i've been Master tier and coaching for 5+ years just to give context to my words ). The main difference beetween a Diamond a Silver, the one that mostly set the 2 players apart is the amout of variables they process due to being used to those things. You can say that the mistakes are mostly the same, but the amount of things they are considering is completlely different, from minion aggro, to jungle being near my lane while dodging, farming and trading, using pots and holding flash for CC at the same time is HARD and lower elo players can do 1 or 2 of those things togheter.
I heard from a D2/D1 Talon mid player " I dont know what i do right or wrong, i push and go bot if i get kills i win otherwise i lose". Fundamentals are like a good 50% the other is mechanics, the first time you reach Diamond is even more like 70% Mech 30% Fundamentals. Most importantly player like the Talon in the example just know how much damage they deal, if I know when you are dead with 90% accuracy is already enough to get Diamond, silver players dont know the damage they are going to deal and this is sadly another things that comes mostly by experience.
Studying is important Yes, Fundamentals are important Yes but if you cant do a clean combo with your champion 100% of the time, sneaking autos, kiting effectively, using flash for engaging and not to run away or last hit i think this is the reason why 2% are in Diamond or above .
It takes TIME to master mechanics & KNOWLEDGE to understand what you are supposed to do, do not fall for knowledge obsessed coaches or people in general, you can reach Diamond just by being fed most of the games, and you can get fed by killing your laner, as simple as that.

Maybe this comment would make sense if spoken, but written, it's really difficult to understand what you're trying to say. Can you, perhaps, say it in a language people who don't speak the jargon can understand?
You started by saying Skill-Capped was "over-simplifying" it, then end by saying it's "as simple as" being fed. I think you're the one over-simplifying it.
I'm saying this as someone who has mained only two champs for about three years, only to have my rank DROP from silver to IRON and can't seem to get out. Nothing about this game is "as simple as that" and there is an extreme shortage of actual TEACHERS. Everyone wants to "coach," but no one wants to TEACH. That's what your Talon player was saying. He doesn't even know what he's doing wrong because he doesn't know what he's supposed to do at different points in the game.
So many "good" players (as indicated in this video) like to say that "Diamond isn't good lulz" but don't realize how they're insulting players who aren't Diamond. But telling players the answer is to get fed is like telling someone who wants to play basketball that the secret to winning is to get the ball more often. I would rather be told how to handle the ball, when to pass, how to get around a defender, etc.
I would really just love to see videos from someone who not only understands the fundamentals, but knows how to convey that understanding to others.

    • @cozzathebest

@@genghistim9159 you are somewhat right what i'm saying is that they way people improve at silver/gold is more related to champion knowledge ,mechanics, reaction time related that knowledge related while at higher elo knowledge is much more important.
They are simplyfing because they say that you can reach diamond because diamond player do the same mistake as you but in reality they are not showing the blatant mechanical difference in everything they do because they process speed, U CANNOT REACH DIAMOND AS LONG AS YOU DONT IMPROVE YOUR MECHANICS.
Coaching has a big impact on people of higher elo atleast in my experience, i had many client reach master from d4 but almost no bronze player (obviously thats an extreme) reach gold, league concept do no apply almost at all on bronze games and most bronze player are stuck there for years.
What i wanted to say with " as simple as that" is do not think you are bronze or gold because you lack the understanding of the universe, you lack mechanical skills which can be trained specifically in custom AND troguht playing the game with a learning mindset, atleast for low diamond.

Basically, being good is relative. And what matters is what parameter of good you want to have/become.
If your parameter of good is knowing how to move with your characther, okay, but you are missing a big part of the game.
If you know what to do in laning phase, but you are unable to play cooperatively with your team, you only know part of the game.
If you are okay in every way, but it is not carrying, it is just carried (with good teammates you win, with bad you lose), then you are missing a part of the game.
Anyway, you just need to know which part you think is good, and, based on this video, below diamonds there are crucial mistakes most players still do.
Of course we can't all be diamonds at once, but even with these video commentaries, those same mistakes keep appearing...

Yeah, keeps happening because it's too much to think about while trying to CS, dodging abilities and looking at the minimap. I mean, it's fundamentals for a Challenger, but for us, low Elo players, some things are much more micro-management than we can handle without frying our brain. So, I'm not saying it's not possible, it's just "fundamentals" are too overwhelming. If only a tiny small percentage of people know and use them, are they really fundamentals?

@@davguev you are actually so wrong, high elo players dont micromanage all the fundamentals, they play because of the feel they have about the state of the game. There are so many skills that becomes almost second nature that feel as common as breathing, what many people below diamond lacks is the experience and practice of those skills, and worse is that low elo players tend to learn really bad habits which in turn make them feel like doing something as simple as csing a chore.

This hit hard: "some are great laners but die to every gank" "some arent as strong but never die to ganks and take good recalls" "some are bad at teamfighting" etc. THese are the big issues, being good at one thing and not good at adapting to the randomeness of soloqueue, yea im doing fine, slow pushed, reset on 3rd wave, then froze under tower, feeling all good as im applying good fundamentals, but then oh wait, jungler ganks me and now the wave i froze is now 3 waves i lost under my tower, now my game is over and all i do is play catchup, wait for enemy team mistakes to try and win while at the same time witness my team's macro decisions in mid-late give me heartburn. I think I have great fundamentls but solo queue is so random that adapting to new sets of fundamentals is what most likely holds 97% of all players back. I can do whats right but not control what happens later and thats so frustrating. Ill be gold forever :D

You are not supposed to die to a gank if you freeze. And if this is an issue instead of freezing you can just slow push and use item advantage + level advantage + minion advantage to slow push and once the wave crash you can roam, set up vision or help your jungle dive your laner or fight or invade.
And regardless of what you can do, failing and dying should not trigger your "solo queue is unpredictable" alarm but your "given the information i had, was my play correct" alarm. You make a good decision and get unlucky. But if this randomness prevents you from climbing, you probably forgot to learn in the process.
being d1 myself i can lose to any gold player if i m not careful
winning requires thinking more than your opponent, processing more info and outcomes, to make the right play.
A player that actively think about what it should do is an entire league better than when it autopilots.
game knowledge and experience helps, but most players are in autopilot 90% of the time, even in diam.
And I would add that the greatest difference between autopiloting and actively thinking isn’t the quality of decision making. It’s the improvement rate. Playing a game at your very very best is much more efficient than playing 10 games hoping your teammates will allow you to carry them.

I hate the attitude that everyone who isn't pro is low elo. Calling gold "low low elo" even tho 66% of players are below gold and saying challenger players are "bad at the game." It's all so pointless and disconnected from reality. There is significant difference between tiers that are at least 1 away from each other and acting as there isn't and calling everyone under Faker "low elo" gives it no meaning. Can you reach Gold or even Diamond while missing core fundamentals and/or mechanics? Sure. But calling 99.92% (% under Master) low elo and bad is pointless when there is a significant differences in ability within that massive massive group.
It's similar to calling bad play "inting." It removes all meaning from the word. "Inting" and "low elo" mean literally nothing at this point since everyone
is "low elo" and everyone you don't like is "inting" constantly.

Well, it's similar to the body dysmorphia usual at least to some extent when you start lifting weights semi-seriously. You watch elites, big, chiseled, strong and your view of the "play field" becomes skewed.
In reality, as close to objectivity as we can get, we should use the statistics imo, so the "average"/"intermediate" level of skill would be at around the silver. Above would be good. Diamond would most certainly be exceptional and really good understanding of (most aspects of) the game. Best pros are like the world record holders and freaks of nature.
It's mostly your view that's actually skewed, maybe in a way that helps you understand how much you do not know but in no way is it realistic to thing that diamonds misplaying some of the time means they are not good at the game, while many of them are great at some aspects. Our expectations just became unrealistic. Oh well. Ending the rant.

You know, it is possible to look much better and be bigger. I don't care I'm above 99.9% people and 99% gym goers. I am not a good body builder, lifter or whatever.
It's just body dysmorphia. Here it seems a similar projected skill, knowledge and ability dysmorphia applies. Moving the goalposts until your perception of reality is skewed towards your bubble of already "best 1% in the game" so that level of skill becomes your normal and expected.

Yep, I know I have TONS of fundamentals I can improve on to convert more "normal" games, but I don't know how to deal with a super fed enemy many times. I've even seen games where our team starts out winning in all but one role, and then that one player gets like 20-30 kills. I don't know how I'm supposed to counter that when I don't even know what all the champions do yet, let alone all their combos, ranges, powerspikes etc. I haven't played this game in total that much for many people's standards, but I'm trying to improve. It's annoying to feel like I spend so much time thinking about the game, watching videos and playing, then it's hard to tell if I'm improving or not

It's not a matter of "this is what the top players do, according to our empirical survey ". The point of fundamentals is that they are always important. Regardless of the patch, and regardless of whether you adhere.

Fundamentals are the basics. That does not mean that you are incapable of playing the game, it means that you can be much better if you master those first. Diamond players have better fundamentals than gold but still have many problems hence why they are not challengers. From your perspective, I would say that Masters and above is were the fundamentals starts to be on point.
You can think with another example. You can learn to play the piano by only playing songs or you can practice for hours scales and arpeggios and play songs. In both cases you are still playing the piano but the your understanding of the instrument will be different.

To echo some other comments, I like the info in these guides, but can we please stop acting like only pros are good? If you're challenger every season, you're extremely good at the game by any rational metric. What you said about people throwing, feeding, etc. in diamond is completely true, but it's for different reasons, ie. diamond players can punish smaller mistakes and get bigger advantages out of it. Being at a level where you're better than everyone from bronze to master doesn't mean plat/diamond players are complete hot garbage, and acting like they are works against the players who are trying to improve but also have a relaxed time with the game-in other words, the people we need more of in the community.

Yes! Thank you. I recently came back to the game and everyone keeps saying "just learn the fundamentals" and then they start listing LOTS of things to keep in mind. There's fundamentals for laning, trading, roaming, kiting, base timing, wave management, matchups, champion identity/playstyle, combos, team comps, itemization, warding, jungle tracking, jungling, camp timers, ability cooldowns, powerspikes, zoning, split pushing, farming, micro, macro, team fighting, positioning... and that's just scratching the surface it feels like. It's hard to even remember what every champion does considering there's currently 159 champions. I find this game hard and I'm trying to improve with the limited play time I have. Calling anyone less than the top 0.25% or so "not good" feels like an insult honestly. I still like these guides. They're great, but I think this "you're not good unless you're a pro" perspective isn't healthy for this already toxic community.

From the Syndra vs Ahri match up. I would have guessed left one to be ~p1-d4 lobby while the right one looked like a d2 lobby. The right one had shorter trades, and the left one had more trading in minion waves. Also the right one played more aggressively which happens a bit more in this season in higher diamond. Fun too see that i was wrong.

The main giveaway that one was higher elo than the other was the APM on display. In any strategy game, there are a lot of bad faith methods for climbing. what we've seen here on display is just one of those: players playing faster than they should be. Lower elo players (including myself) get intimidated by it because we don't know how stupid our opponent is being.

The thing is that league is one of those games that it’s easy enough to enjoy but hard to master, which is what makes it so appealing to such a wide audience.
Every role has different things that they can do to help them win games, and often it is more about good positive consistency than any other thing.
Supports have good utility and good opportunities to roam, meaning that depending on the match, they will need to know when to stay in lane and when to leave, but in a slightly different way than other laners.
Adc have the advantage of focusing on pure dmg while having someone at the ready to help them. They don’t even need to gank as much as other lanes, it’s more about farm/gold and pure dmg. Of course they are also really vulnerable when they don’t have good peel, and depending on the champion, player and matchup this can be a problem with a very varying degree.
Midlaners are similar to adc, but often magic dmg and with more utility. They also have the geographic advantage for roaming making their game more wave oriented and also setting up a higher expectation of helping, but also more vulnerable to ganks (3 entry points per side + lane, so up to 7 ways to gank).
Top is similar, but more isolated and less options for ganking or getting ganked. It is a lane more similar to bot when it comes to farm reliance, and exp is usually king there since you can often see 3+ lvl diff on top. The meta is also very different both for champs and even summoner spells.
Jungle is one of the most difficult to balance in comparison. You have very limited farm alternatives and you are expected to gank. Showing yourself at the wrong time can make you lose serious objectives. Fighting is often 1v1 (no minion help) with a high risk of becoming 1v1+. So the dynamic is entirely different.
These generalizations of the roles are meant to show how no single set of tips couldn’t possibly be expected to cover everything that is needed to reach high elo. There are 5 different play styles with different metas and tons of subcategories. Best case scenario you can reduce it to 3 playstyles (which in my opinion is unfair). Not to mention how this is a team game, yet many of the players forget about it which can effect the matches in very different ways. We don’t have a good system that rewards players when they are actually playing well, so the whole ranking system often can feel unfair.
If you want to climb the answer is often learn when and how to roam and go for objectives, everything else is highly relative to what your skill, role, team, champion and matchup is.

Climbed out of Iron in an afternoon, only for promos to magically hit the smurf queue and no advancement due to the loss streak, despite hard carrying as sup Swain and as Xayah. Why? An inting jg or troll midlaner or the usual team fight mentality over a drake instead of pushing and they all ignored pings. Took a break. Came back after a few weeks, Xayah and Swain win streak out of Iron again with great teams who were actually trying. Hit promos and bam, there were the trolls and smurfs again. Rinse and repeat.
It's almost like the algorithm doesn't want me to improve based on how well I play. It wants me to stay stuck because they think I'll pay cash for a pay to win skin or something. Nope. I'm losing interest in the game honestly. Always enjoyed it for fun and strategy, and the ranked games where everyone in it is playing to win and takes it seriously are the best. What's not the best is knowing the game matchmaking is intending to keep me low. How do I know this? Because I made Silver 1 in a month (did placements in November) last season before the algorithm decided I would get a troll every game and like an idiot I kept playing thinking I was the problem for just having bad luck with teammates. Had a 54% winrate until gold promos then bam, the algorithm knew how to knee cap me. I know the difference between Silver players and Bronze players and Iron players, because I was in Silver and climbed! But nope, Rito's not letting me this season. It's happened to me twice now where I'll hit promos to Bronze and get a sudden difficulty spike with troll teammates. I've consistently gone 9/4/25 sup Swain with the kills after laning phase and still lose because of team dif. I steal drakes and barons and W slow runners for jg and set up a mid dive. Doesn't matter how juiced I am as sup though, can't 1v9 at my nexus when Nasus and Jhin and Kench are fed... and the game knows this and knows how we all play and who we play and what moods we're all in. Porofessor and Facecheck know, the base game knows better than them but refuses to tell us. This is intentional game design.
I have no doubt I'm better than Iron, maybe even Silver. Will I ever find out? No, because I can't dedicate my life to playing a game that gambles my future for their profits. If a weekend basketball show-up-and-play tourney can recognize when a teammate is on their phone or refuses to play or is trolling, they change the match up and boot the troll player to make it fair. If you're not there to take it seriously you're out. Why can't Riot... oh right, because trolls buy skins and make people spend more time playing their game so they buy skins... And that's why my LP is meaningless. Because their business model is a toxic relationship with their playerbase.
Sure, anyone can be diamond. Just like anyone can be anything... if life hands them the right scenarios and situations. And right now the algorithm is intent on keeping me down, and I'm not keen to keep playing a game where I'm pinging and leading my team who would rather wander aram than strategize and succeed.

@@Undomaranel First of all i can help you get to gold if you want to, second you belong in the elo cause you doing to many mistakes, an diamond player could win those games more often then you do. I have friend who regularly drops to silver and i bring him back to gold with ease. He also swears his account is cursed. Yes you might lose 3 games in a row where you could do nothing but you aslo win games where you did nothing or played bad.

Basically, players in Diamond aren't good as opposed to gold and below. They are also bad players. The difference is number of issues in their gameplay. So if I focus on fixing my issues first instead of trying to learn somethink new, everyone can get to diamon.

Be Diamond requires a lot of time and a really rigid schedule. That's it. Once you've fundamentals down, the game becomes quickly boring because you've just to grind LP. So, from Silver to Diamond you'll see no visible improvement in any aspect of the game.
Because how LP system works, your progression rate perception is really far off from reality. While you may need 100-300 games to actually improve, in order to reach your "true" elo (whatever it means) you may need other 300 to 1000 games. At that point is just better to make a fresh account and start from a more convenient position instead than just wasting hours of gaming in an ELO you don't belong to anymore anyway. But hey, here's another trick: levelling account requires either to pay to XP boost or to... grind games. Everything in the game is done purposely to keep you play longer. Even if it's not healthy, who cares: the important thing is to keep you interested.
Despite what people think, there're also unclear things happening with Riot Matchmaking system and not all accounts were born equal. After levelling dozens of accounts and made it to at least D4 on each one, I can surely say that there's some kind of "flagging" for some accounts that once applied it's doomed.
Similar to poker and other games where luck is involved, you just have either to embrace the system or quit. Honestly, there're more beautiful things in life to do than just grinding 800 games in League of Legends. I think I'll pass,
    Best!
