Thankyou for showing these great early years late 60s to 74. The game now is a shadow of once a great game to watch. It now just looks like it's a video game & fans think that's football. Open your eyes guys.
My fav TV theme of all TBM series. The old and still the best Wembley stadium, Brian Moore (RIP) still the very best of commentators. A great era of football imo. I'm old enough to remember watching this on the Sunday afternoon on ITV, and was a Chelsea supporter, and loved this Chelsea line up back then, probably their strongest team line up. So good to see these matches again. Thank You :)
Chelsea v Tony Currie, refereed by Mad Clive Thomas and serenaded by The Shed Male-Voice Choir with ´You´re gonna get your f++king heads kicked in´. Oh, those were the days........
Quickly followed I noticed by a rendition of..."C'mon C'mon, C'mon C'mon, do ya wanna be in my gang, my gang, my gang '...when Gary Glitter songs of the day got co-opted into terrace anthems.
Thank you YOFC for the great upload..I'm a big fan of your channel. If I can be selfish any more Big Match episodes from the 1973/74 season would be much appreciated..if you have any.
Always enjoy seeing John Hollins play. I watched him on TV when I was young bringing some calmness and composure to Arsenal's back four/midfield. Some career he had playing top level ball until 38 years old.
@@seltaeb3302 Top level English football has changed so much since Billy Bonds days. And, to my thinking, in many ways for the worse. In Billy's era the difference between the earnings and lifestyle of top players wasn't as dramatic as nowadays.
2 future West Ham players in the Norwich team , and both FA Cup Winners for West Ham , Graham Paddon and David Cross . A note on the Chelsea V Sheffield Utd game , when a handball was a handball none of this was his arm in a natural position crap , and good to hear the supporters singing , unlike the sterial atmosphere we have now in the Premier League
Two great players Paddons left foot Cross only played for Norwich for about 80 games . Unfortunately as a Norwich fan we have had some great players at our club . But because of fiance's they always left us. Madison Bellamy and Buedea the list is endless .
Not really sure what you're getting at here. It looked to me very much like an accidental, involuntary 'handball', which shouldn't be a penalty. We get far too much of this in the modern game as well, with lots of ridiculous penalties being awarded in similar circumstances. France v Croatia in the 2018 World Cup Final was one such example - I haven't watched another football match since, either in person or on TV.
@@robertroberts3703 All the old favourites we used to sing around the piano at Christmas. David Taylor sounds like he has a plumb in his mouth. Any of Kenneth Wolstenholme when he commented for Tyne Tees?
What’s all that about? Who’s the dodgy commentator? Charlie’s goal was from more like 25 yards than 15. This commentator should’ve gone to spec savers. 🙈😂
My god the only bit of quality on that pitch was Tony Currie, 50 years ago he was a great footballer if he had played for a top team he would have won loads of trophies and played over a 100 England caps, but to his credit he was loyal to my Sheffield United and loved watching him in the red and white,👏👏👏
The commentator on the Newcastle match sounds like he should be commenting on a royal wedding great seeing the ashtray on the desk and viewers letters and reading out viewers address
You say that but David Taylor was the nearest this programme got to a local accent among the commentators at this time! Yes he's desperately trying to sound posh but anyone tuned to the North East accents can pick it up a mile off.

I've got two more to be uploaded very soon - one from December 1973 and another from January 1974.
Yes, thank you for these uploads! Great nostalgia for me.

Awful manager though, sadly.
Billy Bonds played his last match in 1988 aged 41, & only because he had a knee injury. He was probably lucky if he had a £1million.

Really enjoy watching football from this era! I was only a month old when this one was broadcast
Includes such classics as "The Referee's a bastard" and "You're gonna get your f***ing heads kicked in" ! Eat yer hearts out Sky!

This is the Big Match.
@@seltaeb3302 we couldn’t afford itv in our house
I've only watched 5 minutes and there's been a terrible disallowed goal followed by a terrible penalty.
Clive Thomas & Mike Dean, both went to the ‘it’s all about me’ ref school.
Big Mal looks something out of Goodfelles
Charlie George “shoots from 15 yards” even though he is clearly outside the 18 yard box.
No wonder the comms was soon replaced by Ken Wolstenholme😂

Brilliant watching this it's true what all the old time blades say about TC different gravy UTB
When the game was ours
Tony Currie , England version of Gunter Netzer. Doing no defensive work at all but strolling through the midfield creating magic......
vital football history these old footy channels. proper football. thanks millions! cant watch the new sh1t.
Penalty was correct as Badger put his arm up deliberately to stop any chance of the ball going above him.
Michael Palin disguised as ref giving a penalty to Norwich
Let it go it was fifty years ago .
Remember that match happier day's.
Why was Clive Thomas ever allowed to referee in a World Cup? He is the most capricious referee l have seen in my 68 years
More! Where am I?
This referee Clive something, for the Chelsea match harmed Brazil in 78 in The World Cup.
Clive Thomas
Clive Thomas harmed a lot of teams. He thought the game was all about him & not the players.
@@mad4it747 Everton in the FA Cup semi in 77, for instance.
Is he still alive ?
He also arguably allowed the Liverpool's goal scored by Alan Kennedy against West Ham in 1981 League cup final

What a beautiful striker of a dead ball John Hollins was.
The ref in the West Ham game looks like Michael Palin...
Peter Houseman RIP
2:34 & 18:04 Clive Thomas classic pose as he blows the whistle, lol.

The halcyon days.

Terrible cameraman on duty for The Newcastle v Arsenal game.
Is this the legendary Clive Thomas ? I loved him .👌👌👌great official 👌👌👌
Ahh mile deep nets and wimpy billboards. those were the days.
25:57 goalscorer giving the Chelsea fans the middle finger haha. Class.
28,000
The clubs wouldnt exist on gates of that nowadays
One match takings in the 70s is the weekly wage for ONE PLAYER nowadays
That was with only 3 stands, mind you.
the ref should have been sectioned .. he had a crap career.
