It seems to have some inward "splay" on the tension rods. Is the center stem of the lug too short?
I'd be curious to see if you could get enough wood out of an upright piano to make a snare.
There always seems to be 20+ old uprights people are giving away on marketplace.

Maybe! I'm sure I could! You could always use it as decorations I have the old parts put up around the shop that I did not use. I like the sound boards from them the most.
I have one in my garage. Its 120 years old and I never could get it in tune and stay. I think Im going to try to get enough wood for a 3 piece stave kit, 13/ 16/ 22. Im using a bandsaw so less wood waste from blade kerf. Definitely enough wood for a snare but I dont need a snare and want a new kit.
