I feel like I’m one of the few SofaBaton supporters. I won the original SB remotes (the U1?) on your channel. I have repeatedly praised-and DEFENDED-it during live chats on other home theater channels. It’s not perfect, but as someone who appreciates a degree of customization, I frankly love its limitations… which is why, as a HT enthusiast, I can’t understand why the SofaBaton hasn’t caught on!
The company has updated and supported it all along. I can forgive a few rough edges because it is without a doubt the best replacement for the Harmony remote… and in my case it’s even better than my Harmony remote. Which reminds me that I need to put it on Craigslist…
Let me define what I mean by “limitations”: I appreciate that the SB allows me to freely create macros (a sequence of IR commands) rather than painfully forcing me to adapt whatever sequence of actions the Harmony setup has determined will suit my setup… without offering adequate ability to tweak and customize. The SB truly is my main remote.
Great video Kyle.
From what I’m seeing, it’s still nowhere near the Harmony Elite.
No touch screen
No RF
Smaller device database
Main Power Off doesn’t power everything off from that activity
It’s an inexpensive universal remote, but not a Harmony Elite equivalent replacement.
Agreed! But maybe next generation they'll bring that onboard since a lot of people want it.
We have been absorbing opinions from all aspects to make the sofabaton remote more perfect. Regarding some requirements such as the touch screen, we will improve these contents on the X2 remote control.❤
Agree. Rudimentary. LED scroll ball interface is crude. Set up is years away from Logitech (have 3 hubs w/ companion remote and one Elite for rare teaching a command)
Didn’t realize it was not RF, I think I’ll be ok. Family does not like to use the Harmony Elite. They like the Apple TV remote but CEC has been so buggy I’m going back.
Can we clarify what is meant by not having RF? From what I understand the remote to hub communication is now using 433 RF in the X1s over Bluetooth in the earlier model. If you mean the ability to control RF devices, I thought the Harmony Elite doesn't offer that either.
i bought u1 back sometime ago they been pretty help full with support seems work best in blue tooth if it supports it over infrared
I have an X1 that I supported through their Kickstarter so it was $90 then. I had a harmony that crapped out when they made the announcement they’d no longer produce them. It’s been excellent overall so far and I like that it controls IR/bluetooth/WiFi. Only slight negatives.
A. Learning curve.
B. Can be a pain with CEC
C. Only lights it works with is Philips HUE.
Great work. Thanks for posting
Thanks for watching
Best is yet to come.
I use the SofaBaton u2 and it is an improvement over the u1. I would buy it because it is better then the u1 and easy to program
Thx for walking thru this. My Harmony 1 still going strong and hopefully Sofabaton will be around when my Harmony dies. The touch screen on mine is not perfect. So there’s that. Does the Sofabaton have ability to add favorite channels? That is one thing I like about my Harmony. Plus I can change the channel logo/icon to match the name of the channel (eg: TBS).
Yes, the X1s universal remote could add your favorite channels💖
I tried the sofabaton for 30 days,it worked ok for about a week then started acting bugy not turning things on and poor response's have 2 harmony elites and they work beautifully. One of my Elites I had since it first came out and it still works great !! battery is still going strong.I will be sticking with my harmony elites until they die.
Had 2 Harmony remotes and while they did what they claimed they both failed early, not sad to see them go,
Hey! Thanks for the vodeo. I have old receiver Onkyo TX-DS595. How to check the Sofabaton will work with this unit? I used your link to Amazon, it is in the cart with discount.
I ordered the unit, make sure you will get commission.
The x1s is better but the software is still in need of work. It can be pretty difficult when assigning buttons, especially if you have a TV box with a PVR. It's doable but it takes time and is frustrating. I have the U2 and if it had back lighting it would be my choice, and it's super easy to program.
I think that sofa baton needs to release a model between the U1 and X 1s. For me $190 is way too much for a universal remote. Logitech had their harmony companion that was around $100 and it included a hub. They also had IR remotes that had activities for around 50 bucks. I tried the U1 and did not care for it at all. The fact that it had no activities, and I had to reprogram the volume buttons for every activity was infuriating.
Can it learn from remotes? Or only the existing library. I want to be able to control things like my lights and fans.
Yes it can learn from other remotes so long as the manufacturer is supported
@@Kpaceguy Well damn. I finally got it and it's a total POS. No RF and the "database" is a load of rubbish with bot created entries and no actual remote codes. Again, let me stress this, it has NO RF! At $170 not having RF control is an offensive joke. It's total garbage.
The IR barely works even when the blasters are positioned 8 feet away. It takes SO long to forward the commands to the IR device I wondered if it was working. Sometimes it did work it just took a REALLY long time and sometimes it just didn't work.
I have a $14 hub that has RF and IR. It works instantaneously.
For this substantially more expensive system not to have basic RF is malpractice.
This is a total POS and I would not only tell people to not buy it but I would tell them this is some kind of MLM scam. It's broke. #DoNotBuy
Thanks for the review! Can you tell me whether this remote can also control older equipment, like VCRs and Cassette decks?
Potentially
I am hoping to use the remote with a Sony Bravia TV. I often like to watch UA-cam and with my current remote, when doing a search on UA-cam, I can search by talking directly into the remote's microphone. The Sofabaton does not have a mic... would I be able to do the same thing via its connection to Google Assistant?
Without a mic it won't hear the command. It'll bring up the voice prompt but you won't ever be able to say anything. At least with this version of the remote
@@Kpaceguy I saw somewhere that if you have a Google Mini nearby you can connect that and it'll listen through the mini. 🤷♂️
That's how it works with my firetv cube
I have this remote for some reason it’s not working with my Anthem AVM70 processor. Please Help.Great video.
Make sure to use the avm70 selection NOT avm708k
Yes I I’m using the AVM 70 and it’s still not allowing it to turn on and off
@@Terrell1428 Then you've selected the wrong method to power on and off. But you can learn it with the original remote
Still doesn’t work with RF correct?
Everything I set up was with RF
do you need a account for it to work ?
Just an email and password
U2 seems a lot easier to use based on this demo.
It is but less capable
Cant tell what is difference between this and original X1 which I have ?
Motion sensor
Learns more devices
Improved battery
Brighter oled screen
More legible font
X1S Updates
Hardware optimization:
1. remote control add G-sensor, support lift up the bright screen
2. the remote control adds a new font chip, support for unequal width fonts [example: Line and line], support for multi-language menus
3. 2.4G communication between the original Hub and the remote control is changed to 433, solving the problems of upgrading crash and synchronization data loss.
Software optimization:
1. optimize the data structure, and support adding, deleting, and changing devices in activity.
2. Delete Device, will not automatically delete Activity, supports the function of deleting keys, with the new version of the app, supports macro and favorite key reordering.
3. Optimize the logic of activity source tracking to reduce the problem of the wrong source when switching between activities. This is a big improvement to improve the user activity error.
So what are they going to do for original owners. Hopefully some of this things can be updated with software update.@@KrystalWangTech
I forgot this was actually a thing.
What is this a 9x9 room ? 😂😂
10x13
Makes me happy to have my Amazon cube that does all of this without any fuss.
As an X1 owner that was a painful watch so please learn how to use it and do the follow up video as you have stated.
The Off button has NO function in Devices Mode so no amount of pressing it will turn anything off, its sole purpose is to turn off the complete Activity you are in.
The whole point of the X1 is the Activates which need setting up properly, adding one devise and then trying to use it was always going to end in disaster.
Add multiple Devises, create some Activities and customise it, then you will see what it’s capable of, if you continue to use it in Devises Mode you will be very disappointed and I advise sticking with the U1
I did at least learn what some of the changes are from the X1 to X1s, lights up when lifted, a new font and most importantly to me the ability to move the order of the buttons on screen, if that’s repeated in Activates I’ll be upgrading.
It was tough to use but once I understood it, it works very well. I find it better to use than the u1
@@Kpaceguy The X1/X1s is a learning curve, which the U1 isn’t, I look forward to a full review.
Just bear in mind that once setup (which will take some time) if you keep going into Devises it’s not setup.
I watched this if it was touch screen, meh. I watched for numerical entry for channels. Meh! I’ll watch something different now.
That looks awful. How could you call it the best on the market? 😅
Once you get this thing set up, It works very, very well.
@@Kpaceguy If I'm going through the work to set up a remote, the Unfolded Circle Remote 2 is a FAR nicer unit. More expensive, still has work to do, but better construction and better interface already.
Wayyy too much set up and learning curve
It can be a lot if all the buttons don't work right from the beginning
@@Kpaceguyidk if it’s you or the remote but it’s definitely off putting
I'm pretty technologically advanced so I'll figure my way around most everything
The fastest way is to provide your brand and model to customer service, they can directly check and give the best way to add your device.😀
Looks about as much as harmony an app I despise to setup each time
You did not explain that discrete IR codes are required to make this work really well. You're all over the place in your description and for people new to programming it can be very confusing. You definitely made it more difficult to comprehend than it needed to be.
For future reference try to practice and clean up your act before you venture out to help others and promote a product.
You're not getting a sub from me because all you did was confuse the situation and make it more difficult than it needed to be.
Buddy lol It was a LIVE review. I didn't test this out before hand to show exactly how confusing this thing can be! That's exactly the point of making this video this way. To show you that it's not always easy. You're confused because this thing is confusing.
This guy filming in a closet?? Get some better lightning.
