    The montage of her parents watching over her as she grew up is one of the only times Futurama got me to cry when it wasn't about Fry's past, so I'd say it was equally as well done and explored as those aspects of Fry's character. I also love Leela's parents and wish they were in more episodes.

    I’m guessing it’s a show of love from them since they wanted leela to still believe that she was an alien instead of an mutant, as the former makes it more likely for leela to get social acceptance than the latter, but still that’s so depressing.

    Growing up i did have parents, but my parents were abusive. I always found myself identifying with leela and her struggle without a family, in some ways i idealized it. When she didn’t have a family she could essentially imagine them to be anyone she wanted them to be. And i always felt jealous of that. When she finally did find out who her parents were it was heartbreaking that her parents were always in her life to begin with. The scene at the end definitely still leaves me in tears to this day. Mutants are revolting was the 100th episode? Beautiful. So much of the series was based on Rediscovery of Man. Mutants story line is straight from the stories of Cordwainer Smith. Reading the collection really felt like going through a first draft of a season of Futurama. So episode 100 they went all in. Thats just great. But in all honesty. Every change Futurama made to the "source material" was for the better. And thats when the series delivered its best moments: Borrow the concepts from Cordwainer, Lem, Dick, Clarke etc and add the humanity that came along with the characters that were so well rounded.

    In addition to the closing montage of her parents watching over her, what always stood out to me were the tremendous sacrifices her parents were willing to make to protect her sense of identity as an alien rather than a mutant - giving her up to be raised by others and accepting her intention to kill them rather than tell her the "shameful truth". It's heart breaking, but this is also one of the greatest displays of love throughout the series.

    "the cyber house rules" is an underrated episode, IMO. I read it strongly as a disability metaphor, especially with how leela's fellow orphans condescend her and act superior just because they don't have the same issue she does, and I love seeing her embrace her cyclops identity by the end. I recently started watching Futurama from S1 Ep 1.
    The sheer range of emotion this show has is amazing. To go from LMAO to depressing sadness at the drop of a hat is amazing.

    Fry interacting with his mom in her dream hit me really hard. I watched that episode for the first time in late March or early April this year. I hadn't seen my mom for almost 8 months and it was the longest I had ever been away from home. I cried a lot during and after that episode, and I still tear up a bit thinking about it

I just can’t live without Tress and David, ‘cause they’re my whole childhood. My adult show growing up was King of the Hill(David) and my kids show was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse(Tress)

    Earliest clue I know of that Leela's not an alien is S1E5; "Fear of a Bot Planet." She pleads with the human-hating robots to spare her since she's not human. They insistently imply she is.
    It works ingeniously as random humor if you don't know her latter-episode secret. It's foreshadowing if you do! Yes, though, I realize it raises other questions.

    I think the fact that the reveal was built up to over the course of the show is one of the things that made it so effective. It wouldn't feel as emotional if those other episodes about her past weren't in there. We're left to wonder about her origin about as much as she did.

  • @boyroy4u
    @boyroy4u 4 роки тому +1

    I think people overlook Leelas story arcs sometimes because she is often just the talking piece in Frys ear, but her emotional moments in the show are some of my favourite. She is a super complex and flawed character, not just some sci fi badass nerd fantasy (like the show sometimes tries to pass her off as). A great example is in the first season, the Planet with 3 Suns, or something like that. Fry becomes king of an alien planet and the entire time is undermining Leela for trying to tell him what to do, and at the end when he is facing a literal mob trying to kill him he begs for her yo save him and she has a real moment of inner turmoil where to has to choose whether to stick to her guts or help the people who need her

    I feel Fry reconnecting with his mom after being frozen and that whole episode ( Game of Tones ) answered some of the long standing questions the audience had. In particular, the way Fry interacted with his family at his current age (since we get plenty of flash backs to be able to piece together Frys childhood) and how his family felt after he disappeared.
