    I got my phatmoto when they first come out no instructions and no videos at the time. I called ATV and motorcycle guys asked them what is the top chain drive slack what's the minimum to maximum chain slack. Many of places all said better to be to loose than chain to tight. I run 1/2" min. - 1 and 13/16" max chain slack. Running the drive chain too tight or even to snug will make peddling the bicycle almost impossible and will wear chain and gears down. My bike governor bypassed, taller BMX handle bars - for standing up to put weight down when pedaling, submerged throttle cable in oil and installed - that made a difference, installed soft throttle spring - that helped, max torque clutch recomended by Beau Brummel - made a big difference, drilled side cover for oiling clutch and cooling, baby powder with talc in tires for long life, brake levers with brake locks and big rear sproket coming for all off line and big hill pulling! Just want more bottom end power not worried about top end. I plan to drill and tap with greese fittings front wheel, rear wheel, front down tube, pedal crank shaft, jack shaft for ease of lubricating bearings.

    Also with the Max torque clutch you don't need to oil it like the stock one it has a bronze centered bushing with oil impregnated in it.

      @@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles there is no real owners manual to give you detailed instructions on what to do so we have to make one as a community. And there are discrepancies... like the manual that comes with the engine says to use 300 mL of oil but the Phatmoto website says to use 590 and so I put mine at about 400 ml and that is enough for me. It's things like that that we need a comprehensive guide as a community and that's why I want to contribute and try to help the rest of the world, you know?

    I had a problem with my pedal rods stripping the crank where it bolts into the crankshaft with the allen key, no matter how tight i got that bolt it was allready wore out and would have wobble, so to solve problem get a welder and weld it to the shaft on the back side and weld the bolt to from backing out, its supper solid now and you can pedal as hard as you want.

    • @daviddawson574
      @daviddawson574  2 роки тому

      I agree! But if you Weld it together you won't be able to lubricate the bearings that are inside and eventually It will be really difficult to peddle at all. I had to change the entire pedal assembly on an electric bike I had but with this one I don't think I've had to take it apart yet... you're absolutely right though the pedal on the left side CONSTANTLY comes loose. Right now I'm using locktite and lock washers 😅.

    OK, why the tension spring on the final drive chain?
    The Phatmoto does NOT have any rear suspension,
    and as such, it doesn't flex. Set the rear wheel for 1/2
    inch static play, and leave it alone. (If your aluminum
    frame DOES flex, it will break, and soon!) My Phatty
    doesn't flex. Yours shouldn't.
    Oh, thanks for the info on that Crackberry back wheel.
    I figured they were standard 6 hole disc brake drilled.
    Since I have access to a metal lathe, mill, and a drill-
    press, and have some extra discs, I can drill my own
    rear sprockets out. My Phatmoto REALLY needs some
    gear change. Feels like I'm in second gear. But, I can
    beat most cars through the intersection.
    steve

    • @daviddawson574
      @daviddawson574  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Steve!
      To answer your question directly the 415 chain was driving the tensioner wheel downward along the steel bracket continually and causing me to have really violent take-offs, so I tightened the tension wheel down so much that it stopped sliding BUT my rear axle on the standard wheel gradually was torn apart. So then I bought the Mag wheels on Bikeberry, but I also added a tensioner wheel lever to the the whole system to give me smoother take-offs and to allow play on the 415 chain to protect the rear axle and Jackshaft from excessive wear. It works much better for me now 😁!
      Also, I can beat most cars through an intersection at a green light, but I DO wish that my engine would produce a greater overall top speed lol. I'm stuck going at about 20mph everywhere to try to extend the life of the engine, and so those cars normally pass me pretty quickly.

    How do I know what max torque clutch to get? I have the 2022 phatmoto with the Hilliard clutch and I'm not a big fan of it cuz idk how to maintain it really MT clutch seemed easier to grease up than the hilliard

    • @daviddawson574
      @daviddawson574  2 роки тому +1

      You have to research what size clutch the 2022 model uses... make sure the bore or "inner diameter" hole fits correctly, and that the number of teeth are the same. Then it will fit. I can only tell you the size of the 2020 model (probably the same), but your best bet is to research and then match the specs.

    i have this bike, and every single nut bolt and screw needs to be locked tighted, not sure if its just my bike but fuel leaks into the crankcase and contaminates the oil, but i think i messed my carb up so not sure if it was me or if i bought it like that, the forks suck, the crank shaft foot pedals constantly get loose at those big allen wrench screws, and spring tensioner works awsome on this bike, i like how you hooked yours up, a 44 rear tooth sprocket is perfect balance of speed and power compared to the stock 50 tooth. the front forks suck really bad. the entire bike as a whole is over still awsome, have had so much fun on this thing and for 80cc its has allot of tourque, i wish there was a video of some 100 or 110cc engine mods. i also seem the newer pahtmotos got huge tires. ive had a hillard extreme duty clutch and a max torque clutch, everyone was saying hilliard was better, mh experience is max torque is sooo much smoother in taking off. also i was able to put hydraulic disk brakes in the front but in the rear i domt think one will work cuz the posistion that the hyraulic cable comes out will chafe against the disk brake disk, i couldnt find and hyraulic bike break that has the cable coming out on the oppisite side, it seems all manufacture make them the same, if you know of any can you please let me know.

    What can I do better to calm the vibration especially on take off?

    • @daviddawson574
      @daviddawson574  4 роки тому +1

      That's a tricky question... I found a couple solutions to that problem. 1- Check the slack on your 415 chain (the big chain from your Jackshaft to the wheel sprocket). The 415 chain should have between ¾in to 1¼in slack max (online says 1" slack max but I give mine an extra quarter inch). If you have too much slack there ( driving will cause the chain to PULL the tire forward ) then that excess slack will create the rumbling shakiness that you're experiencing during takeoffs. To solve THAT problem, loosen your tire and slide it back to increase the tension on the 415 chain to the recommendation. *CAREFUL* Too much tension will cause wear on your Jackshaft and/or destroy your rear wheel axel, so don't make the chain too tight. The "Green Zone" should be ½in to 1¼ inch slack or so.

    • @daviddawson574
      @daviddawson574  4 роки тому +1

      2- Oil your clutch. I upgraded from the stock clutch and so to oil mine all I do is use a dropper bottle to apply 10W30 on the space between the clutch shaft and the clutch bell everyday after I get home from work. Then I'm good for the next day. Or, you can take the clutch off completely and clean it (phatmoto made a video of how) and oil it that way too. I do THAT more thorough method every month or so. But either way, you need to add oil to the clutch shaft regularly. That causes vibration also. I actually cut a bunch of air holes for venting my clutch in my plastic chain guard and I use one of those holes to apply oil everyday. Those two methods combined ought to virtually ELIMINATE your rumbling during take off bro 🙂.

      @@daviddawson574 I think my chain might be too tight actually..

    • @daviddawson574
      @daviddawson574  4 роки тому +2

      @@melvincortes7134 be careful with having your chain too tight. When you're going at full speed I suspect that the centrifugal force the chain is exerting is destroying your tire axle and Jack shaft. I've replaced both on my bike so far so definitely don't do too tight. However, if it is too tight then I would deduce that the rumbling is coming from your clutch. Take apart your clutch and oil it and then reassemble it and put it back on and see if that does not get rid of the problem. Make sure you let the oil set for 30 minutes to 1 hour before you drive again 😁.

      I'm sorry you're right I have been lagging it haha! I have to show you all the upgrades that I did to the machine but in the interim I ended up buying a car and refurbishing it also 😅. I will do my best to get a new video up for you guys and I will tag you in it so that you can see everything I've done to my bike 😁.

    Chain tensioner is supposed to be under the chain pushing up, not above pushing down. As it is, the chain can jump off the sprocket much too easily. Not safe.

    • @daviddawson574
      @daviddawson574  2 роки тому

      I've ridden this bike for 15000 miles and that has never happened before. I drive a car now but but that is simply not true! I've already addressed that point in the comments. It's a chain TENSIONER, so how could the chain jump off the sprocket under tension?

    • @alloriginal62
      @alloriginal62 2 роки тому

      Because you're pushing the chain out, centrifugal force pushes it out more, chain looks too tight as well, probably why it hasn't come off. Speaking from 50+ years bicycle and general mechanical experience. Not saying you're an idiot, or anything of the sort, just want you to be safe.

      @@alloriginal62 If that's the case, then pardon me... I only made this video to help other people and if that is what is accomplished by you sharing your expertise then our collective work is accomplished! The original pulley wheel was sliding down the bracket with tension on the chain, causing the chain to jump repeatedly. I believe that the bracket was of cheap manufacture and would buckle under pressure. So my solution was to buy a new tensioner wheel and arm, a recliner spring off of Amazon, and a pipe clamp, and to jerry rig a new tensioner at the BOTTOM of the bracket where it could not fall anymore lol! It's not perfect, and now I do know WHY the tensioner should be mounted high... but it IS an effective solution in a pinch. My bike still works even now, although I have it locked away. I bought a car lol! Thanks for your addition to this video... we ALL need to learn more. I'm about to add a few new projects to this Channel to help people. 1: Biomass Gasifier with filters and generator build (along with capacitor) for cheap energy manufacture at home. 2: DIY hydroponic Carolina Reaper setup. And 3: Farming rabbits for meat Industry I made! You can see all that on my channel in the coming 12 months!

      I honestly had no intent to offend you. I built my first two stroke bike this summer, and I am now an enthusiast. Ran across your video while researching Phatmoto, as I am about to pull the trigger on a 2022 Rover,( as soon as I decide on color) and already planning a Predator 212 swap, after the 'new wears off'. Your bike looks great, love to see people getting into the hobby. Keep up the good work, and stay safe.

    Your chain tensioner is not good it should come from the bottom and lift up on the chain not push down on it.

      Honestly, I drive a 2014 honda accord now, which is why I haven't made an update video yet. I bought a house and I'm kinda busy. That being said, I rode this bike for a year or more, well over 15,000 miles to work, with the parts that you see in this video (along with an upgraded/welded jackshaft). The featured/invented chain tensioner is still on the bike, and it still works. I'll use this bike to walk my dog. What, exactly, is inherently incorrect or "wrong" about the position of the chain tensioner wheel? If it has worked all these years, why is it broken, again?

    GREAT REVIEW!!!! You convince me to not ever buy this bike. Bike is a nice concept but the quality of parts on it do not make it worth $1000.00!!!! You had to replace half the parts on it. What a joke! Better off building your own bike with parts you know will last.... Great review! Best, Michael M.

      I used a 66cc two stroke but always ended up greasy and smelling like premix. The four stroke is nice and reliable and doesn't smell as much, but at $1,000 all in, you can build a center drive e bike yourself and go about 40miles to a charge.
