      Yes a belt drive would be great. The #35 chain can be super strong, you just need to buy a go-kart race chain. The stock Chinese chain is not so good, wears out fast, ruins the clutch and jack shaft sprocket as it does.

    Hi there, so I subscribe to your channel and have been watching your videos. I wonder if you could Answer a question.
    I recently put a Hillard clutch with a Gasbike.net 35 jackshaft kit on my 2019 model phatmoto.( plus AR Exhaust )
    Everything seems to work fine.
    But I really seems to not be any difference in performance. In fact with jackshaft sprocket being smaller it now has less torque for hills. Do you know where to get bigger jack shaft sprocket that fits the splined 5/8’s shaft. Or do you have any ideas ?
    Thank you for your time

    • @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
      @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles  2 роки тому

      Okay to answer the bigger spline jack shaft sprocket question first. There are none, the shaft is a special spline shaft, in a 15 mm diameter not 5/8". Another misconception is that the #35 chain spline sprocket is smaller. It is physically, but it has 36 teeth. The 2019 jack shaft 415 chain sprocket also has 36 teeth, so the gear ratios are the same, its mathematical. The physical size makes no difference as far as gear ratio's go. So your performance will be close to the same. If you installed the spline shaft and #35 sprocket, you are stuck with that gear, sorry. That is why I switched mine to a 5/8" keyed shaft and a mini hub so I can take advantage of all the 3 bolt pattern sprockets that are available. I hope this makes sense, A 36 tooth sprocket is the same no matter what chain size you use. A #35 chain to a 530 motorcycle chain they are the same gear ratios. You must drop teeth to achieve a higher ratio, just as you add teeth to achieve a lower ratio. Watch my video on installing a 5/8" jack shaft, Parts 1 & 2

      @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles  2 роки тому

      The jack shaft bearings can be stubborn, but they shouldn't be that tight. First do you have the jack shaft out? Because with the shaft out, you can insert a small blunt punch or similar and tap the bearing out from the inside near the housing edge. Tap a little, then move to the other side, alternating. It should come out easy once it starts. If you are replacing the bearings and don't care about them, you can use a large screw driver to tap them out from the opposite side.

      I got it on Amazon, the sellers name is La Rosa Designs, they sell seats and accessories for motorcycles. It was kind of expensive because it came with the bracket to bolt to the seat and the bottom bracket to bolt to frame. It was right at $45 to $50. If you are handy with fabricating you can make it your self and buy the shocks for right around $12 to $15. They also sell a dual shock mount, but its even more expensive. See if you can find them on Amazon or maybe go direct to them.

    My 2023 Phatmoto has the hilliard (came with it), but after 4 rides the clutch is not disengaging when at idle. This causes the engine to bog and die when I come to a stop. I'm not sure what caused it or what to do about it. Should I start by taking it apart and cleaning/lubing it, or do you think it's shot and I should just get a max torque instead?
    I did oil the bushing out of the box with 30 weight oil. I didn't oil the bushing after every single ride though, could that be what caused it?

    • @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
      @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles  5 місяців тому +1

      When new the clutch bushing is extremely dry and needs oil, at frequent intervals. Oil the bushing at first after every ride. Once it gets enough oil, it will be less frequent.

      I don't think so, keep it oiled. You may need to do a clean out of the bell drum soon, but it needs oil. If you know how to disassemble it, some actually submerge it in oil overnight to get it replenished. It soakes up the oil best when bushing is warm.@@wesh388

    • @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
      @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles  2 роки тому

      You don't say which model you have, the AT or the Rover. The AT has slightly more clearance between the engine plate and the bottom of tank. So for the AT, I recommend the vertical Honda 190 cc, it has 6+ hp and almost 8 lbs. of torque. It mounts with very little modification, 1 hole drilled in engine plate, a little mod to cam cover. For the Rover it is the Predator 212 cc, you'll need to fabricate some engine mounts. Both engines have a 3/4 shaft so you'll need to get a 3/4 bore clutch or CVT torque converter. Doing a engine swap can get expensive and be frustrating, its not for the timid.

      I use a light oil designed for bushings, like in electrical motors, etc. It is designed for anything that spins, it is heat resistant and comes in a pull out flexible spout to reach behind the clutch to oil the bushing at the snap ring. You can order it online. Zoom spout oiler, also Ace Hardware has it in stock. The clutch mfg's call for regular 30 weight oil.

    Hey Beau,
    Back to bug you again LOL. Got my Phatmoto all together and fired up. oiled the bushing very well and made sure everything else was good to go. Now my issue is clutch grab. motor is fine, but it virtually has ZERO clutch grab, will barely move the bike on its own. I assume i need different springs on the clutch? its a hilliard. It has 4 white springs on it right now. i assume the springs are TOO strong, and the motor isnt spinning fast enough to spread them apart enough to get the bike to move on its on. Am i correct?

    • @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
      @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles  5 місяців тому

      No not necessarily, When you say barely move the bike on its own. Do you mean its just slow say 15 mph approximately? Or it just won't move the bike at all. Even with the engine governor working it still will spin the engine to a minimum of 3600 rpm which is plenty of rpm's to move the bike. Did you get an excess amount of oil inside the clutch drum and you are getting major slipping of the shoes or ??? The 4 white springs should engage around 2600 to 2800 rpm which should grab and move you well.

    • @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
      @beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles  5 місяців тому +1

      WD 40 is the preferred cleaner for the drum and shoes, so continue to use it. However do not ever use grease on a "Oilite" bushing. Using grease blocks the bushing from doing what it is designed to do. It is designed to leech oil out when heated to keep itself lubricated. Using grease will render it useless and may damage it beyond repair. Also if grease gets on the drum it will create a situation that will cause the drum and shoes to not engage. Keep grease away from the clutch. Disassemble it clean everything with WD 40 wipe it dry, Put 30 weight oil on the bushing, make sure the springs are not damaged and correctly assembled and try again. There is no reason the clutch should not work unless something is a miss.@@JasperJames0912

      The 2024 model is the best so far, it has 10 gauge spokes (19' -23' models had 12 gauge) it has sealed bearings in the wheel hubs, ( 19' - 23' models had the troublesome loose bicycle ball bearings) it has the bolt thru sprocket bolts/nuts ( 19' - 23' models had the very weak M5 x 25 mm, 6 bolts system). 180 mm front rotor with hydraulic brakes, (19' - 23' models had the cheap small mechanical brakes). The front forks are better. These are some of the upgrades we have been lobbying for for a few years. So while they are still fairly cheap buy one.
