So, basically Blade Runner x Metropolis x RUR. Kudos for Peter Lorre as the main male character.
"Metropolis" is considered a big influence on "Blade Runner" in particular, so I found the idea of reversing the starting position interesting. The fact that you mention RUR in this context is an exciting but initially unwanted association.
@@views-of-an-ai The influence of Metropois is obvious, but as to RUR - RUR's "robots" are actually replicants pur, despite of the fact that the term was then coined for mechanical robots. The closest thing to RUR's robots I've seen were 'contemporary' models of Westworld, i.e. those made of artificial flesh and blood.
Funny that the AI picked on this theme, ain't it?
...i.m.o. Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis' is to 'Blade-Runner' what Akira Kurosawa's 'The hidden Fortress' is for George Lucas' 'Star-Wars'...!
@@Packless1 To me, in "The New Hope", Harrison Ford is playing Toshiro Mifune.
I also see influences of the Lang's "Dr. Mabuse" movies and "M" over and above the obvious references. Interesting that it doesn't mention a script by Thea von Harbou. This could be a really good movie if it were actually seriously made.
If we got a Ridley Scott "Metropolis" we could bookend Fritz Lang's version of the two as sequels and Scott's as opposing metrics of "futurevision". That would be a fun 8 hours of movies.
What a night... I love your idea!
They made a "Blade Runner" in 1929, it was called "R.U.R" and was written by Karel Capek.
That where's we got the word, "ROBOT".
@@jmchez you got it!
I've seen it, and it is pretty neat. The giant robots were so cool. Their arm and leg joints were made from concertina bellows. Kind of like using modern aluminum heater duct parts, today.
Robot comes from "Robotnicki"", Czech for labourer. Incidentally, the KGB expression for killing was "chernaya robota" for 'black work'...
The word - Robota - means compulsory free work for the nobility in older Czech. In Slovak, the word Robota is used for any kind of work.
Most of the "AI" generated clips I have seen have been hilarious. This one (worryingly perhaps) is quite excellent. Both films are masterpieces and the parallels are undeniable.
Only the art was impressive, and that was just gleaned from photographs. The rest of it was a standard Wikipedia-style list of facts.
The 'Harry Spotter' series being quite fantastically funny
This is an excellent idea with excellent visuals. I would love to see this as an actual movie.
Thank you for your nice comment. I really appreciate that... And I really mean it.
Always a good idea. Anyone can watch it here: 🎬Metropolis (1927) Full Movie ua-cam.com/video/W_4no842TX8/v-deo.html
Blade Runner & The Replicant are both films with this exact storyline
@@views-of-an-ai Oh now you've gone and tempted me...
So basically Blade Runner but Sky Captain. What an interesting mashup that would be…..
Great job with the mabuse reference, he is a very important character because he's one of the first supervillains ever, first appearing in Dr. Mabuse the gambler (silent, 1920s).
The diary of Dr. Mabuse is outstanding. Mabuse's evil ideas make Nolan's Joker look like a nice-mannered child.
Exceptionally clever - as an exercise in pure style this is quite compelling. I suddenly realize Blade Runner and Metropolis make excellent companion films
Back in the 60's in Venice California there was a movie theater that would match up movies as you describe. They also handed out 3x5 cards to the audience to submit suggestions. Great venue.
@@oldreprobate2748 Yes, back in the day, the Uptown Theater in Minneapolis offered nightly double features which demonstrated remarkable mental dexterity in mixing/matching film titles. Alas, such venues are long gone, but in its time, it was wonderful, and I got a helluva film education from the place. I was curious about everything and happily, still am. Incidentally, this past weekend, I sat shiva for the lovely and righteous Glenda Jackson and watched several of her films. As a seventies icon, damn was she good. And its always good to revisit Ken Russell films as well. Enjoyed "Women in Love." And must mention Russell's "the Boyfriend" - totally over the top. It's a brilliant, hot mess and thoroughly recommended.
@@oldreprobate2748I suggest a Halloween showing of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" with Anna May Wong's "Daughter of the Dragon".
It features the tease kiss worthy of Dr. Frankenfurter.
@@oldreprobate2748 Sounds like the old Fox Theatre on Lincoln Blvd. ? lot of good memories there... 😊
I wish curated double features were more of a thing.
My suggestions would be:
Metropolis vs. Blade Runner
Network vs. Nightcrawler
World on a Wire vs. The 13th Floor
Taxi Driver vs. Bringing Out the Dead
Videodrome vs. Strange Days
Trouble in Mind vs. Joker
Barfly vs. Trees Lounge
Dick Tracy vs. Sin City
Living in Oblivion vs. The Science of Sleep
Girl with a Pearl Earring vs. Portrait of a Lady on Fire
The VVitch vs. Hagazussa
Ad Astra vs. Lucy in the Sky
I really love the idea of Peter Lorre in a role like this. It seems that he never got enough deep roles that he should have. I also love the suggestion of Toshiro Mifune. (Currently watching "The Seven Samurai"..........long film) We are so overdue for the emergence of another 'new wave' in film making. Hopefully without the AI.
Fritz Lang worked with Peter Lorre in the 1931 film "M". So I found Lorre to be a realistic and good choice of cast.
The AI is a tool as is a paint brush or a pen. While the AI brings this idea to life, the AI didn't dream it up. It has no soul and no realistic sense of being. Only measurable reactions. In this case the art is superb in this result. The only fear I'd invest in AI is when it becomes the tool of politicians and corporations. Imagine having one assigned to everything they can analyze about you since your birth. While that might not matter as much to "Boomers", Gen-X and beyond are fully digitized in their affairs. Imagine a decades'-old social media comment going through the maze and resulting in your getting cut off from your bank account, Social Security and Medicare, essentially a death sentence on the cheap from the state.
I suggest everyone who can read and reread The Count of Monte Cristo or at least watch the whole film. Two men in a prison, the old one sent there years before for opposing Bonaparte and the new one sent there for supporting Bonaparte (because of a forged document). Consider how long this nightmare scenario has existed on earth already.
that "long" 7 samurai moves FASTER !
do not miss kurosawa's use of a still during the older samurai's flashback.
hoping you got the set like i had:
Yojimbo in 3 channel audio !...
i was watching them when gentrification struck.

also gone maybe 5,000 vinyls: jazz and prog. canterbury collection.
plus a few cats
@@jorgegonzalez-larramendi5491 You're right about Seven Samurai picking up pace as it progresses. We were watching it through The Criterion Collection as my sweetheart has an academic pass for Criterion. Sorry to hear about the loss of your home! That sounds like a painful memory.
MAD LOVE !
Brilliant. If this movie had really been made, we would still be talking about it. Amazing use of AI and a very thought provoking piece. Thank You.
Well fritz lang did make metropolis and that film is dicussed all the time and is one of the most influential films ever made
@@lonl123 why…the film describe here is just a mash up of blade runner and metropolis. The language model has done nothing special here besides throw the summaries of these two films together. In fact Fritz lang already made an excellent film about criminals called M, would recommend it. And during his time in America lang made a bunch of noir films which also directly inspire blade runner. So what are we talking about here? Lang already basically made blade runner in aggragate and we have blade runner. The AI worship is silly
@@brickingle3984 Wow....just because I find something neat does not mean I'm "Worshipping" AI....only on the fucking internet can someone find argument with a persons comment that is just praising the idea of a blade runner before Talkies. Quit trying to find arguments....I was just giving a compliment.
@@lonl123don't call... It's a replicant !
Beautifully done! And I would love to have seen Peter Lorre in a role like this!
Blended with Michael Cane?
OMG I would watch this. I actually got goose bumps.
Thank you, Renee. Comments like yours are the "salt in the soup" (which is basically the German version of "icing on the cake" or "the cherry on top").
Didn't read the title before watching. Didn't realize it was AI until I saw the botched up hands. Really impressive!!
Thanks for sharing this moment! 😄
And the men who hold high places

To mold a new reality

Reflect it in their art
They forge their creativity

one of the most classic songs!
Wow! That is something Fritz Lang would have made.
Thanks. I'm glad you think so. I take that as a compliment.
You did a brilliant job on this. The voice was spot on, the city scapes, it was all wonderful. I want to see the movie, even as an animation.
FINALLY! An AI created film that is NOT a parody of Wes Anderson. Such a great idea! Good job :D
How much of this was done with AI? The art? The Dialog ? The voice over? if it was all we are in the dystopia now. Regardless it is stunning.
The music includes a recurring dissonant chordal shift which I have noticed in previous ai underscores. Nonetheless, a lovely rendition with a nice string-infused climax at the video's conclusion.
Regardless of AI, we are in a dystopia now.
Who would have thought the future was people doing low paid menial jobs and it's the robots who create art, poetry and music.
See the credits at 3:29. I for one would be interested to know something about the procedures used to generate these results.
@@mannydavis7708 Do not want. 👎
Metropolis Runner 😁 would legit get a ticket abroad if it wasn't showing in the UK. This would be captivating!
Based on “Do Replicants Dream of Mechanical Sheep” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
It's an interesting point about the industrial revolution and how affected society and power and the relationship between classes and people, using a fictional future that we have been dreaming about since those old days. His vision and the way it catches audiences attention and thoughts even nowadays is amazing
A film i would actually like to see. Let's get that funding!
I wanna see Fritz Lang remake everything! Great renders, computer!
This partly sums up what AI will be capable of achieving more and more in the future. In essence, AI will have the ability to answer a simple question. What if?
I have seen Blade Runner, (Theatrical Release) literally hundreds of times; it is far and away my favorite film ever; and I absolutely love this idea. I would so love to see this idea realized as a real film. An Animated Film yes, because I think the casting of Peter Lorre as the Detective is just brilliant. Due Props and TY for sharing this.
MOST excellent!! What a mashup of various movies in film noir style. Kudos!🎉
This is absolutely incredible. And the retro art deco style visuals were fantastic. It would be a masterpiece. ⭐⭐⭐
🙏 Love this brief introduction to Fritz Lang's Blade Runner! A fan for Fritz Lang' futuristic yet classical style that is both stylish & timeless ... Love the pleasant tone narration too! Thank You So Much for the efforts & for sharing! 🙏 🌷🌿🌎💜🕊
My pleasure. Glad you like.
All these AI art makes me feel like looking into the lens of parallel universe...
Nicely done! Granted that it's easier to *describe* something as great drama than to actually *create* great drama, I nevertheless applaud the directorial and design creativity that this required, and hope to see more from you (and your cruel, soulless metal friends) in the future! Thank you for your work, and cheers!
Gosh, I'm knocked out! That was beautiful! If it could only be made into a film - even by using the same "actors". I'm certain that it would be a massive hit.
A movie would indeed be good, but framed prints of some of those stills would be amazing.
This is surely your masterpiece! (Love the Dr. Mabuse reference, btw.)
As a fan of German Expressionism, Blade Runner, Metropolis, Fritz Lang's work in general, and robot uprisings, this would be my favorite movie of all time.
Just imagine how crazy this he should be! Fritz Lang's Blade Runner would be one of the biggest cyberpunk influences(like Ridley Scott version) i would love to see this version.
Fantastic, I would love to see this movie. Great design and production!
Thanks. I take that as a compliment.
This looks Beautiful! Thank you for showing us which tools you used to make it (at very end of the film.) I too agree that in just a few years, you'll be able to make a full-motion film short from this idea. And I truly hope you do!!
This is an absolutely fantastic video. Great, clever writing, editing, and selection of stills, beautifully retouched. Dare I say...Superb!
Yes, I did just say that now, superb, that is!
Somebody should actually try making this movie.
Disturbingly brilliant!
This is very interesting and of high quality. Congratulations. The story line borrows plot elements from both Ridley Scott's 1980s Blade Runner as well as plot and style from Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Excellent work.
A man with deep eyes and a big heart. The world rests on people like him.
I can't wait for AI to replace Hollywood writers. This looks AWESOME!
Not much original imagination in Hollywood anymore...same old sequels or themes.
For a second watching this, I thought oh my God I’ve never heard of this movie, I need to watch it. That said, whoever made this, I would love for them to make a full length movie with the same tone etc. I would definitely watch it.
That was killer. Almost in the vein of "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow."
Brilliant work. The visuals feel so authentic that, until I realised you'd used AI, I genuinely thought this was a piece by Fritz Lang that, somehow, I'd missed! Your mastery of Mid Journey (?) is remarkable... plus a really well-written script. I immediately subbed. Thank you and I look forward to your future work.
WOW!!! Peter Lorre and Brigitte Helm in “Bladerunner 1929”, directed by Fritz Lang? Fantastic!
That was exceptional. Thank you so much, and do continue.
Very clever, I've seen a few AI channels doing these kinds of video e.g. Star Wars as a dystopian 80's cyberpunk movie by H.R. Giger. With Samurai. You're giving it much more thought and actually seem to know about movies. Anyway, great work. I've subscribed.
Thank you!
I really liked this blend of themes, imagination and concepts, well done.
That was one of the best uses of AI I have seen. I love the storytelling and artwork. If there is one type of AI art I hope to achieve…it is something like this. Lang was a genius. I think he could have done Blade Runner. However, he left us his masterpiece Metropolis. Great video AI. Keep on it!
Simply wonderful. I'm a big fan of 'Metropolis', 'Blade Runner', and Peter Lorre. This presses all the right buttons. Nice one. 👍👍👍
So good! Well done!
A.I. alone is better than today's Hollywood projects
Absolutely excellent images, captures the look of the 1920s Lang films so well. Thank you so much for this.
Looks a lot like the original short for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
Bravo! I would actually like to see either a feature-length movie, or a television series with this style. A.I. is brilliant.
This is .... wow, I would love to see a full film treatment! Nice work
Beautifully done. 👏👏
Peter Lorre would make such a witty, soulful blade runner. Thank you. This was lovely.
AI generative art is both genuinely fascinating and creative AND terrifying. It's a sentiment that's become a bit of a cliche at this point...but that's because it's true. And I'm an artist...from 20 to 33 I worked as a professional graphic designer. I'm glad I don't do that anymore....because yikes, for real.
But what I find especially useful and cool with AI art......is how it handles mashups. It does that very well. Taking the overall aesthetic gestalt of two things, even if they're totally dissimilar, and rendering truly convincing 50/50 conglomerations.
Looks like a dark Gotham city from Batman with the rich and poor divided. Interesting to see a Bladerunner dystopia from almost 100 years ago.
Peter Lorre as main character is an excellent touch! Kudos for depicting him so young seeing that it would've been 1929 - about a year prior to "M - Eine Stadt sucht ihren Mörder"!
Brilliant! As luck would have it, just last night, I watch Lang's M, so his style was fresh in my mind.
G'day, what a Brilliant idea, Fritz Lang's take on "Blade Runner", I also like the use of Peter Lorre ,well done, hoping for more "Things to Come!"

How interesting is this! I love it!
Beautiful, love the digitally added scratches to simulate real film ... keep up the good work.
Fritz Lang meant Metropolis to be a critique of 2:30 2:32 the Weimar Republic (Germany 1919-1932).
Not really at all. A veiled critique of the 4th Reich since it was a reworking of his Nazi sympathiser wife book. Even then the film does not refute the mind/ heart/body power struggle, as the mind still controls the body (wealthy elite/poor workers) through the intermediary of the heart. Still very Nazi in outlook. Great film though.
capturing that vibe that is generated by the original Blade Runner is difficult . That future city, bleak everyday life of the near future. you captured that feeling.
Thank you for your insightful comment. We're thrilled to hear that our reinterpretation managed to capture the essence and atmosphere of the original "Blade Runner," particularly the unique vibe of its future city and the sense of a bleak yet compelling everyday life in the near future... The ambiance of the original "Blade Runner" is indeed iconic and challenging to replicate. We're glad that our creative endeavor resonated with you in a way that evokes those feelings. Your feedback encourages us to continue exploring the intersection of classic themes and new technology... Thank you for being a part of this journey, and we're grateful for your positive response to our reinterpretation. Have a nice day!
Good stuff! Impressive!
This is so brilliant. I've literally had dreams like this where Bladerunner was set in some kind of alternate past. I had a dream one time that there was a bladerunner movie somewhere in the 40's and the main character was Bruce Willis. The themes of this movie are so pervasive they get into your subconscious.
Hi MrSlyxx, thank you so much for sharing your excitement and mesmerizing dreams inspired by Blade Runner. It's fascinating to hear that the themes of the film have such a profound impact on your subconscious... Dreams have a unique way of blending different elements and creating alternate realities, and often reflect the deep resonance that certain narratives have within us. The idea of Blade Runner being set in a different past, or even featuring a character like Bruce Willis 😆 in a 1940's setting, shows the persistence and malleability of storytelling... The themes of Blade Runner are indeed thought-provoking and have a universal quality that allows us to transcend time and space. Your dream is a testament to the power of storytelling and how it can affect our thoughts and imagination in unexpected ways... Thank you again for sharing this with us. It was really an interesting experience that you described!
Not the remake we deserve but the remake we need
I want to see this movie. Even a silent version with a good score would beat the whoop out of whatever the most recent version is SUPPOSED to be.
I just have a hard time imagining Peter Lorre as a leading man. I just expect him to scream as he did in "M". Kiefer Sutherland based his character in "Dark City" on Peter Lorre because he thought of portraying him as a scared mousy man. I was not expecting Dr. Tyrell to be Dr. Mabuse. That was brilliant.
Brilliant! I'd love to see something like that made
Visually stunning. Conceptually compelling.
Amazing use of the AI tools to reimagine Blade Runner and killer script! Not only thi short is an amazing story in itself (not just fan fiction) but also amazing work on showing how AI tools are juust that tools, without the human sensibility this is not possible...until replicants come along 😁
So basically, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep meets Metropolis meets Rossum's Universal Robots.
Unbelievable! I'm a huge fan of Metropolis , and it is incredibly energizing to see this take on Lang`s style.
I was really hoping this was a trailer.
0:48 "Some Replicants have developed self-awareness and seek freedom from their oppressive existence".. OMG! I'm a Replicant!
this is brilliant

Using a likeness of Peter Lorre as the detective is a really interesting choice and it works! Very cool!!
very cool. loved it.
Have you read the original source for Blade Runner, Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
But I like what you've done here. It's just a small skew from "Metropolis," but very interesting. And the selection of Peter Lorre is very good.
Didn't think I'd like this, but yes! You've nailed something here, and I love it.
Lang's Blade Runner is the yardstick by which all other cop/sci-fi/social meaning hybrids should be judged.
More please, and especially more PETER LORRE.
Amazing how he was able to predict blade runner 50 years before
Waw. Fascinating. I want this film! And vizual? Amazing! Funny, that this version would be in time when P. K. Dick was 1year old. 😉
