I just subscribed, looking to dip my toes into lost wax casting but all the equipment is very expensive as I'm sure you know. This is exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for thanks!
I subscribed because i really like your straight forward style of presenting information and how you find ways to make your equipment. I am a retired commercial kitchen equipment technician, and my mind goes to making equipment I need too. I was going to suggest using nichrome elememt wire to create a burner, wouldn't be too difficult. It could probably be wound around the inside of the refractory in a chanel made by pessing a cord in a spirial when the refractory is still pliable.
How can you put the investment cast into the oven to dry it when the wax inside would melt? As far as I can see online, wax melts at 100F but you bake it at 220F. How does this work? Appreciate the help
Just found your yt page and subscribed! Thank you so much for these helpful tips. I just have a couple questions how long do you leave the molds in there to burn out? And at what temperature? Do you slowly raise the temperature or just set it and leave it for x amount of time?
Thanks for the comment..... just plug it in and set the mold in About 5 hours..... longer will not hurt....... cast mold as hot as you can. remove from oven and cast immediately.
Amazing video! This information is priceless! Just to confirm a standard two burner Coleman Camping grill can replace the antique burner? Do you recommend using both of the burners on the grill or just one? Lastly should I run the grill at its highest temperature? Thanks
So, just curious - have you ever had any problems burning out flasks with this type of oven? Ganoksin jewelry forum had an article that suggested that you needed to ramp up to 300F for 1 hour, then 700F for an hour and then 1350F for a couple hours before coming back down. I was considering building a fancy programmable oven, but they all seem to run on 220V and I'm stuck with 110V. If your oven doesn't have any problems with flasks cracking, etc., then I'm completely sold. Comment please(!).
Thanks for the kind words... thanks for subscribing to my channel ! ################### No I have never had any problems like that........... I only use food cans( the main thing you want to do is.... if you use an old antique coil hot plate......is to buy some nicrome wire on ebay and make a new coil for the burner..... this way the element will last a long time .... if the element is old it may burn out during the burn out and cause your mold to cool to fast and crack) ################## I would also like to invite you to join my facebook jewelry making group as well! love to have you as a member! facebook.com/groups/271201071392598 let me know if I can help you in any way!
Element can be bought. It'd be some work, but someone getting into this should be able to build some ceramic - refactory - some kind of plate with grove. - Or line the chamber - or ...
for the clay pot I would go about 7 hours.....5 hours with an aluminum pot & refractory. if you leave it an hour or two longer it will not hurt anything.....
Find a microwavable flask and burn it out completely in the microwave in 30 minutes give or take for average jewelry sized flask. You know when the steam stops.
Might suggest you turn off the background music, can barely hear you over it.
the music is too loud and unnecessary
Please volume down the music I feel you hard to understand
Great info, the music is insanely loud though. No need for it, what you are saying is interesting enough!
Sorry, I can's hear you over the music.

I have a pro model coming but I’m gone try this as well. Question what kind of clay pot to get for this. Dope video
just a plain clay flower pot that just fits over the burner. an old cooking pot with about 2 in of refractory works better.
What do use for a lid for the clay pot

sorry for the delay..... just use one burner and use med heat......If you can find the old coil hot plate it will be cheaper to run than propane......

What’s the brand and model?
do the burners have to be flat? or can they be slightly raised
slightly raised should be fine as long as you can put your pot over the top to hold the heat in.
Can you buy a modern metal burner and put a ceramic plate on top of the burner? Will that work the same?
No, you'll need the old fashioned coil vintage type hotplate

does the clay pot method take longer than the iron pot method

Subscribed. I've done a lot with the flower pot. Plan on some improved DIY, not that I am retired and barely have gumption to do such shit anymore.
