Thank you for this! I got this frame in my FPV crate and was looking for something like this! Not to be annoying and I'm sure you know this. Always want to make sure you have an antenna on the VTX before power it up. It was powered on for long just adding my 2 Cents lol. Awesome Video
You're welcome. So far really liking this frame and it has been a nice upgrade from the iFlight DC3. You are correct, always good practice to have the antenna attached when powering up. Some folks, such as Bardwell think it's okay to power up the DJI system for short periods without the antenna. Never the less, why take the risk.

Solid build. I like to use Tattu R-Line batteries and those have shorter leads than most. When I build my quads I always double and triple check my esc xt60 lead length before finally piecing everything together. Looks like everything worked out nicely in the end.
Thanks! Those Tattu batteries are sweet, a bit more pricey though. Funny enough did double check but never expected this frame to be so rear heavy.
@@Mangorille It's true, the rear weight bias is quite extreme on this frame. I'm actually going to be building the 5" versions of the QAV-S, have all the parts already. Curious to see what the weight distribution is on it.
@@michaelc5027 Are you planning on running a Gopro? If so, that would balance it out. I suspect this 3" has the rear bias because they thought we'd be running an action camera up front.
@@Mangorille I was actually thinking the same thing. I like my freestyle quads lighter so I will be running a Runcam Orange 5. I'd love to get my hands on a Session 5, unfortunately it's quite difficult to find one at a reasonable price, never mind finding one at all. I might eventually build a more dedicated, full size GoPro rig, but for the time being, I enjoy the lower weight. Who knows, maybe GoPro will actually make us a new session again, instead of those massive Hero bricks.
@@michaelc5027 I hear you, having the same challenge with the RotorRiot HD1 and the GoPro. Ended up removing the GoPro and hard wiring it to the flight controller for a ~35 gram saving. That may be an option if you can find a beat up full size GoPro somewhere.
great frame i just finished mine too! only thing i don't like is the carbon is a bit sharp on the edges but nothing a file wont fix
I actually never noticed until you mentioned it. It does feel a bit sharper than other frames.
nice lil build! Those props are 2g a piece, you can get just as much thrust (but less durability) out of the 3" emax props and they're only 1g a piece, it'll improve the flight characteristics dramatically in that the motor will have less prop to spin, def check those out! The newer 3" HQ low pitched props are also 1g and they're good and stiff and should be able to handle that build.

@@Mangorille your scale must be more precise than mine, they show as 2g on mine. I think your AUW may be more than mine too so those props may be the best option.

Hey loved your video but I have a quick question, how much did this build cost with the dji system and how much did it cost without the dji system, Im thinking of doing a similar build but Im using a analog setup instead of a digital. Would really be thankful if you could tell me the prices :)
$206.23US without the Vista and battery. Add $165 for the Vista. Add $15.99 for each battery pack. This assumes you are using the DJI remote controller, otherwise you'll need to also add a RC receiver.

Do you think the vista would fit in the center with an AIO FC/ESC? Looking at getting either this frame or the Impulse alien but I want center mount vista. I may decase my vista as well for even less weight!
BTW, smoke test should be done with a smoke stopper! I’ve been using one ever since I smoked a $70 BetaFPV AIO. Last night it caught a short on a $40 4in1 esc so it’s already paid for itsel lol. Cheers!
There wouldn't be enough space unless you modify the frame with taller stand offs or you decase the vista. Decasing the vista is the direction I would go. I have a video on the channel on how to do that.
You are correct, I live dangerously doing the first power up without an actual smoke stop.
Hi do you think the space of this frame allows for a full air unit to be put to the centre (with tape/ziptie/3D prints) and the 20x20 stack. It’d be ideal to have 1080p recording while giving up GoPro, but the closest I found is the DC3 which I suspect is slowly being phased out. Your thought is appreciated!
Hey. Can't think of a way that this would fit a full size air unit and still fly decently. Someone else asked the same question and I provided measurements of the back area where the Vista would go. The problem is that the frame tapers at the back as well. Here are the measurements if you want to compare with the air unit:
Distance between the two standoffs at the back where the vista goes: 35.88mm
Width of the front standoffs where the vista goes: 19.2mm
Width of rear standoffs where the vista goes: 14.8mm

What's the flight time with those motors on a 4S 650?
Depending on flight style, you're looking at 4 - 5 minutes. Power is really good with the 1404 motor combination, I'd say it has better punch out than my 5" with 2207 4s motors.

Do you know about how many amps you draw from this build? I'm doing a similar build and want to make sure my 850mah 45c battery is adequate!
I haven't measured the amp draw but the 650mah 90c packs I run get warm after a flight. What kind of flying are you planning on doing (hard on sticks or just cruising)?

Newbie here, why would one choose to go to side instead of front top or back top. I tried side but, props kept hitting cables.
Most people run the motor cables on top of the arm but you can get props striking the motor cables and cutting them in certain crashes. Doesn't happen often but can happen. As a newbie, you want the cables on the side of the arm opposite to the direction that the prop turns. This way when the prop bends and touches the arm as it spins, it will hit just the arm and not the motor wire.

@@dhalimon Ah. I bring it out the side and make sure to cable tie it to one of the stand offs. Should be well out of the way of the props.
