What are your thoughts on the future Netflix Games? You think they got a chance or do you think ol’Goose is a mad lad 😂 Hope y’all liked the video! It’s the best I’ve ever done and ol’Goose is just getting started 🥰 Keep it cute!
Netflix ban all European galaxy S series phones from having the gta definitive editions, apart from the new s24 ultra, because they're greedy bastards, and Samsung gives the S series phones their inferior exynos chipset, rather than the Snapdragon chipset that the US, Japan and Korea get. I cancelled my subscription in disgust, and I'm boycotting Samsung over this. They can both kiss my entire a$$.
I’m glad someone is covering this. Since Stadia died I’ve been nervously watching the cloud gaming environment not really change - and then Netflix wanted in?! Lol
The problem with cloud gaming is that it has all the same infrastructure costs as streaming but even more so . . . And streaming is a very hit or miss model in terms of profitability as is. I suppose it might work for highly monetized games . . . But those already aim at a simpler cartoony art style not just to access as many players as possible, but to keep the cost of developing of those skin and environments that serve as the cash cow way low . . . Which defeats the point of needing to use the cloud to game rather than just downloading and running it natively.
Netflix also has the ability to make games related to their shows, so somebody can start bingeing a show and then jump into playing a game version of it. And if people get bored with the games, they can just jump out and watch something instead. It's genius actually.
Not really from gaming pov, the industry is already saturated and gamers aren’t your normie consumers… it’s harder to fool them and for long. So either these games are low effort copy paste for the normies at Netflix (which just lets them retain market not expand/grow it) or these games need genuine effort in development where you’re just creating another gaming studio. Problem there is, making a game has very little to do with IP. You can make a Superman game, without calling it Superman and people would still buy it and DC can’t do anything against it. They own Superman, not a flying super-strength alien man with laser eyes. A game is about the actual mechanics, so why waste money sharing it with an IP holder who provides nothing but a marketing boost? Great games don’t need marketing
Wow. I searched Netflix Games, couldn’t have chosen a better first click could I? Subscribed! Keep it up. With this peak quality, I cannot see what could possibly stop you from huge growth.
I clicked on this video expecting the same average quality of other game channel vids & I was pleasantly surprised to see such high quality & effort! Earned a sub
Great vid! I'd say that for gamers to take Netflix seriously they will have to release a major blockbuster of a game to mark their entry into AAA games.
Such a great video, your production and presentation is just so far above almost everything else out there! Netflix games is one of the big reasons I canceled my sub lol, every show I enjoyed was getting canceled while I kept seeing more games pop up. They were putting their money into productions I wasnt interested in so I left lol. I'll probably renew my sub every now and then to binge stuff as it comes out or if it gets better tbh.
Totally get it Amber, Netflix lately has been a drought of content for me. Sometimes it has something that catches my eye, then others it's dead in there. Thankfully that Arnold doc was awesome, but I'm curious to see what AAA games they create given their market data. Glad you liked the video 🥰!
Good talk but considering Netflix cancels shows at their peak will it be the same with their future original games canceling support and future updates as well? It’s about quantity than quality of content for them. The only complete shows they have on the platform are usually third party contents.
I agree but it’s worth noting Netflix values quality via metrics such as average view time, click thru and much more. So while they do cancel what myself and others would call high quality, it may just not get enough passing metrics for their subscriber base. It’s very fascinating how they’ll apply this to games since barely anyone finishes games.
Hello Zenkai Goose This is such an incredibly well made video, and a perfect explanation on this subject. Keep up the good work. I'd like to inquire about the document that you showed and mentioned in the video- Netflix's gaming strategy. Is it real?😅 Is it publically available? Would it be possible for you to share it? Thank you!
You're channeling Marty McFly with that vest. Btw, great work. You need more recognition and subscribers. Your content deserves it. Too bad life isnt always fair.
Awesome video and great points all around! You're absolutely right that they have a lotta strengths and they got the hunger. Another strength, Netflix also owns it's fair share of IPs. I'd love to play a Zack Snyder styled Rebel Moon or an Army of the Dead game. How about the live action animes they've been releasing like Cowboy Bebop or One Piece? Not so sure they own these really... Maybe it's just a deal they have to make games. Regardless, the idea that they could successfully tie together a game + TV show or game + movie seems like a strong card up the their sleeve.
Honestly, i feel like Netflix Games could actually not only beat xbox, sony and Nintendo, but also apple with their apple arcade. Something tells me Netflix could bring back the golden era for mobile gaming, since most of their mobile games can be played offline, with no ads nor microtransactions.
Maybe Netflix could get a slice of the market, but personally I don't have much faith. The thing is Netflix's isn't the only one trying these things and it looks like they're going to be stuck between Microsoft, Amazon and Apple. All of them have their own gaming ambitions.
Imagine Netflix saving video games… you get a fully completed game with no micro transactions because you’re already paying their monthly subscription. Hope they pull this off!
Love your vids bud, but that stab at PS exclusives.. ? Spiderman's on XBOX? They have tons of exclusives, might I say more than others. Much love y'all
I think they need to up the Indie games a bit more game’s upcoming like cookie cutter and especially The last faith since castlevania nocturne is around the corner would be icing on the cake
I have concerns over the size of the investment that Netflix could really make long-term into AAA gaming without a genuine success. They are a company with a huge amount of debt. They have decent revenues, yes, which are climbing, but I still don't see the play into AAA. Mobile gaming is probably the best place for them to be. The investment is smaller, and the profit margins are bigger. Look at AAA gaming now, it's not in a great state, and they are many more games that fail to meet expectations than games that are runaway successes. I don't see how they can just invest forever without their shareholder's losing patience. In addition, I think that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will be fine. They've all diversified their revenue streams with multiple products out there beyond gaming. Microsoft has taken steps too to move away from exclusivity in a bid to increase their customer base drastically. They'll be fine but will lose what made them so great to begin with. Nintendo are fine. They are probably about to release a new console. Their game budgets are much, much lower than Sony's, and they never sell hardware at a loss. They have theme parks, movies, merchandise, and Pokemon. The Switch will also go down as probably the best-selling console of all time. Sony may not have a great slate of first-party games coming up, but they are fine too, they recently came out saying that the PS5 is the most profitable console for them ever. The margins are the best they've ever been, and they've made more money already than they had on any of their previous consoles. They also have movies and consumer electronics within the Group. None of these companies are going anywhere.
I think you missed a fairly important point in your analysis. The way I see it the main competitor for Netflix gaming is not MS or Sony, but Steam/Valve, who have way more data (relevant to gaming) than Netflix does. I also highly doubt Netflix would release a tabletop console, it would be much more logical (considering the nature of their streaming platform and the idea of 'cloud gaming') to release a handheld and games for the PC platform, consequently the main competitors for any Netflix console are going to be Switch and Steamdeck, who both have a big head start. With Steam having a much larger customer base in the gaming community (130M monthly active, all gaming), it's going to be a rough uphill battle for them, rather than the easy-peasy landslide you seem to predict. Finally, Netflix are not a gaming company, and they're publicly traded, which means they're probably going to make all the same live service mistakes that MS and Sony have bumped their head against for years, unlike Valve/Steam who actually know their customer base and share their passion for the medium.
I use the PS5 for current gen and Xbox for backlog gaming, it’s a good model and it’s easier to upgrade storage on PS5 for current Gen. Storage is the eternal issue 😅
For some reason you forgot Geforce Now, how much energy gaming servers need (much more than netlix data servers) and the lack of exclusive games like god of war, horizon, halo, forza horizon, etc..
2:50 Sony swooped Cloud Strife out from under Nintendo. Although he is stil technically a 3rd party mascot, I'd say he was the face of playstation in the beginning.
Fantastic games, loved playing Spyro back in the day, but if I recall I was talking about launch games. I should have been more clear because you're totally right!
Netflix won't make a console and I'd be willing to stake a lot of money on this. True, Cloud Gaming is currently an absolute nightmare, but the same was true for streaming video when Netflix started (but their vision was always streaming, not DVDs in the mail). If you looking Clayton Christensen's theory on Disruptive Innovation (see: The Innovator's Dilemma), you'll notice that when technologies seem underpowered, unlikeable, inconvenient, and unapproachable, it just means they're early, not that the concept is bad. It will just take time and Netflix knows this as they've already been there before. Consoles are a dying concept overall. As poorly as Xbox is doing, Microsoft knows this as well; they just might have gone too hard on it too soon. There'll will probably be another generation of consoles, perhaps one after that, but in the next ten years we'll see the death of the game console.
Their metric is engagement, and the goal is profit. Gamers are burnt out from their own industry hyper focusing on this. Engagement is not the same thing as fun.
idk Goose, I literally went to Netflix while this video played to check out their games. The best game they had available (IMHO) was INFERNAX, which is basically an NES sides scroller game. I just don't think it will be a thing any self respecting gamer would turn to. this is like a gimmick for grandparents to "attempt" to entertain their grandchildren, only to realize they cant do it on the TV and they don't have a controller for them anyways. 🤷♂😂
The transformers game they have use to be on the app store and the core game was the same but it also had movie characters, and alot of characters in general and then they removed it and it was dead, after the netflix transformers wfc trilogy they bought the game changed all the character models to there own, using the same fighting moves from the past versions of the characters, simply put, its ok but not great
I'd say netflix had their chance if they were able to release a proper, reliable service of playing big title games, like PC/Xbox/PS blockbusters via their streaming, BEFORE anyone else did that. They could have used their big experience with the streaming technology and go for it. But at this point the xbox cloud gaming is already here for some time, and while they still call it a beta, the amount of big budget games there is bigger than netflix's laughable mobile toys. I agree with the statement that gamers don't really care about the provider and will jump ship or just simply have both, but the main surprise element is no longer there. And in that context, no, I don't believe netflix wants to build their own harware, that's a completely bonkers idea. The future is with streaming games and netflix is there to utilise their streaming technology, hoping this will give them edge over microsoft's experience with gaming industry as such.
What are your thoughts on the future Netflix Games? You think they got a chance or do you think ol’Goose is a mad lad 😂
Hope y’all liked the video! It’s the best I’ve ever done and ol’Goose is just getting started 🥰

Apple arcade with extra steps. Yet as you said they are building credibility. It seems a wise direction.
