Indicators (will not kink line):
Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!
I'm new to fly fishing and been wanting to use an indicator....I'm still learning strategies....I'm still unsure about tippits and purpose.....but I love fly fishing
Thank you for sharing Dan.🐟🐟🐟
SWEET!! Gonna get some!! Thanks for letting me know!
My pleasure!
Have you thought about using a thin plastic washer on the inside to help tighten it up with having to crank down on it? Thoughts of using them after 6 months of use?
They have since made an adjustment that has fixed any slippage issues...I have never had too much trouble with mine and they are still going strong!
The Oros and Air Lock screw-on indicators are excellent but expensive, and I like my DIY NZ indicator kit, which set me back $15 for a lifetime supply of indicators.
Cheers Dan ✌️❤️=🔥
Nice, seen them on Mad River and now in local store in Everett. My thought is, how well will it stay snug ? Before it comes loose.
That is the exact place I saw them as well! I think I might have the first ‘live action’ review (which is kinda cool). I’m not sure if you have a chance to watch the entire video as of yet, but I talked about slippage - gotta crank em on 4x for sure.
I use indicators a lot, cost to Scotland is prohibitive , cot of indicators 9 dollars, listed postage 40, just have to wait until they are available over here!
Darn it! Sorry to hear that. Hopefully soon. So cool that you are watching from Scotland, thank you for being part of my channel
I've ordered these from oros UK website £12.90 with shipping .... looking forward to use them!
@@skookumjack many thanks for that.
@@skookumjack I've tried to find the website, can you point me in the right direction? Thanks
I’ve been using NZ strike indicators (yarn with clear tubing). When would it be better to use the Oros indicators. What size is used on a 5wt WF line with 9ft leader with 4x or 5x tippet. Thanks.
Hello - I have found that the small and medium sizes of OROS work well with 5wt WF lines with 9' leaders. No issues with twisting, or slippage - they cast nicely too without a big splash down when presenting the fly. Cheers!
What size Oros indicator are you using in the video?
Hello! I am using their 'medium' sized- works awesome!
I like these but they freeze together in winter conditions. Makes them really hard to get apart and you end up smashing the foam and it stays that way cause it’s frozen and they don’t float as well. I definitely will continue using them when it’s not below freezing. Air-locks will continued to be my winter indicators though.
That is a good point - I had the same experience fly fishing at the Yakima one winter day. I put the indicator in my mouth for a few seconds and presto :))
Hold them in your hand and breath on them they thaw almost immediately.
These will definitely be better than the air tight indicators I’ve been using
No twisting - so much better. Thanks for tuning in! Cheers!
Good grief Dan, I fished this river the last few days. I'd love to meet you on the river one of these days. I like to fish that river and that other Freestone river that's not too far from there when its open. I know you know what river I'm talking about.. On another note. I've heard about these have not tried them yet. Will have to give it a try. I typically run a new zealand.
I bet we were close...there was someone in my favorite spot ;)) They are great indicators!
@@FlyFishDan as a local, I just found out the fly shop near there has them in stock. I'll cruise over and pick some up tomorrow and maybe give them a try. We will see. Keep up the good work. 👍
@@dondenman8124 awesome - and thanks! :)). Caught a lunker today - 20”!!!
@@FlyFishDan yeah buddy. I caught 8. Lost 3. 2 were some nice sized whitefish. One I lost I know was a nice one. But like they say life goes on and fish on 👍
Use them all the time!
They are pretty awesome!
I like these better then Air flo. Those damn thing with the washer and little ass nut can make you go crazy when you loose them.
