You can take used dryer sheets and lightly saturate them with your favorite detergent and let them dry out. Then place them in a small zip lock-not considered a liquid, saves liquid and weight and you have the detergent you prefer to use whenever needed. Facial cleanser and astringents can be put in cotton balls as can makeup remover and in marked zip locks-no longer considered a liquid. I even put fabric softener sheets into empty spray bottles and fill with hot water when onboard=wrinkle release spray. Toss when finished. Tossing all those used/partially used travel size containers and near expiration liquids leaves room for smaller souvenirs and purchases.
I vote for no hamper, shoe bag or cosmetics bag. You shouldn't bring that much stuff and you can use baggies. The bathrooms have plenty of room. You're on vaca and it's a time to chill out. Dress down and simplify hair and makeup. Wash clothes in the sink or shower and rewear. Travel size toiletries, and throw them out at the end of the trip. I put creams in small zip lock bags. Wet colognes on cotton and put in small zip locks. We use only a carry-on/or backpack for everything (even to Alaska). We are minimalists when traveling and never missed having anything and traveling around is SIMPLE. I'll be adding the insulated coffee cup in the future.
hand luggage is good... but travel size items to be thrown out after each trip is a lot of landfill trash... reusable and minimal stuff is ok... usually the trip is only 4-5 days anyway.... not a big deal..:)
WalMart pharmacy sells tiny little sealable plastic baggies that I put all tablets of any kind and label with marker. In the travel section, they sell little plastic containers with screw on lids to bring min. amounts of creams or lotions etc.
Rather than a lanyard for my Sea Pass, I carry a 'wallet' phone case with a thin wrist strip. It has slots on the inside for credit size cards, and a section for a few dollar bills; very handy for excursions. The wrist strap is great for taking photos from your balcony - don't have to worry about your phone dropping into the ocean!
Mine is an inexpensive crossbody phone holder/wallet that I got from Target. It holds a room key and my phone and when I’m in the dining room I can place it at the table like a clutch. It’s been one of my favorite items to bring on cruises.
@kelgma2five Sounds like that works well, too! Anything that makes our lives easier, or better, is a win in my book. I'm still using the same wallet case for my phone that I bought last year for our cruise, and wonder 'why didn't I get one of these sooner!'I
Don’t love packing cubes, but they’re indispensable as a barrier between my clean clothes and whatever the previous hundred people used the storage space for. The cubes and a quick once over with a little $20 uv light on the first day and the space feels like home.
Sound machine and magnetic hooks are my two MUSTS. The shoe organizer is only really needed if you have more than two people in the cabin. Then it’s a lifesaver! 😂
over the door shoe pouch is really great... could store so many random things which would otherwise be lost in the luggage or we simply forget...when in sight, we deal with it better :)
We bring magnetic hooks, but not for hanging stuff on the walls - just don’t like the look of that. We attach the hooks to the ceiling and hang a shower hook to separate the sleeping area from the sofa area on ships that don’t have a curtain there. This creates 2 sleeping/napping areas and also 2 dressing areas. This comes in handy since we're friends that travel together, not a couple.
@vcjtx I brought an adult grandchild on Celebrity Apex to Europe last summer. Had magnets & lightweight shower curtain to hang between the beds for a little privacy. Imagine our dismay to find that the only non-magnetic part of the ceiling is the 3'-4' wide faux wood strip that's centered right above the beds!! Used the magnets to keep excursion tickets accessible, but off the desk top.
@@Kittycats26 Unless they're cleaning the walls & ceiling, I can't imagine that they would be in the way. Our Celebrity Apex trip was my first time using the magnetic hooks, but I definitely packed them again for my Allure of the Seas Bahamas trip a few months later. They came in handy for a couple of different uses. Hope Celebrity and Royal don't 'ban' them.
The best travel tip I can offer is to invest in solid shampoo & conditioner. There is virtually no risk of you running out & it will not leak in transit.
iPad with magnetic case. This allows kids to watch movies in the bunk by sticking it on the roof of the cabin. We’re also lovers of the shoe organizer.

I always bring Lysol wipes to clean frequently touched areas and controls. Love the packing cubes and I put them right in the drawer. If you cruise before with RCCL, bring your souvenir cup. It still works on the soda machine.
The cups absolutely do NOT work on subsequent sailings. They deactivate after 10 days. I went on a 15 day and mine quit working as chip was deactivated...this is inaccurate advice.
Thank you Matt. I'm going to check online for a motion sensor light. A great alternative to leaving a bathroom light switched on all night. Appreciate your suggestions, helpful to know what new products are available as well as the useful old favourites.
I love the magnetic hooks. I bring a little dropper of nilodour, and put 2 drops on a face towel in the bathroom, as I don’t use the face washer, that way the bathroom always stays fresh.
I throw in about 6 plastic clothes pins. I can pin my swimsuit or undergarments to a balcony chair or even a hanger so they dry. They never quite dry in the bathroom.
USB Charger: The one shown in this video implies you should get one that can work in the 230V Type F receptables in the cabin. Don't. The cabin steward uses that recepticle for the vacuum cleaner. By all means, get a European one for use elsewhere on the ship since 120V outlets outside the cabin are rare. (The only one I saw on the Oasis was by NextCruise.) If you get a generic AC travel adapter, make sure whatever you plug into it isn't going to go boom. Make sure it supports 120/240V and 50/60Hz. Most laptop power supplies and USB chargers do. White noise machine: There are plenty of white noise apps available for your phone and/or tablet. The volume through the phone/tablet speaker is quite loud, so it ought to be sufficient, but go an test it before your trip. An alternative would be to find a 10-hour white noise youtube video. You can also find rain and other sounds.
I like UA-cam white noise, but wouldn't you need an internet/WiFi connection? Can you download white noise onto a phone to use when you don't have internet/WiFi?
I cant live without my travel adapter that provides an extra outlet and 4 usbs and my portable charging bank. I dont bring liquid soap but soap sheets and those little towel coins that expand are great for port days in the event the bathrooms have no soap and you need to clean up. I bring my scentsy car freshners, one for the toilet & other just to give my cabin a fresher smell in general. I do bring cleaning disinfectant wipes and my small microban spray. I do a clean up before unpacking and every few days just to make sure everything is disinfected as I go. I bring my own toiletries but use the shampoo/conditioner for any small garments that I want to wash and hang, that keeps me from having to bring anything. If it is supposed to be good enough for my body/hair, it is good for my delicates. I like my eye mask and ear plugs on the days I want to sleep in. Slippers, even though I spray the carpet with my disinfectant, I still use my slippers.
Loved this video! We are sailing on the Reflection and doing a b2b2b. She will stop at Coco Cay on the first and last cruises! We booked Hideway Beach😉 for both and can’t wait to see for ourselves. Praying it’s pretty accessible. Thx for sharing your amazing day! Love ya both❤️❤️
There is a lot we use. Foldable hangers, I don't lke bothering the cabin attendants unnecessarily. Magnetic hook ans the clips for my polaroids. I am tempted to take some fairy lights as well but not sure if batteries are okay to fly out to the states. I use a travel washing line as the last two cabins on Anthem we were in, had no line, so that was handy. Poop Spray for the nasty odours, carabiners, towel clips. I have a small bag of bits i use specifically for cruises so everything we need was there. I found the shoe organiser was cumbersome at best so I just kept everything in the said bag in a drawer as we don't always fill all the drawer space and we do always have a tube or two of Dr. Beckmann's travel wash for the smalls.
I think all of these are on my cruise-essentials list. About OTC meds, not only are they incredibly expensive on the ship, there are some you would expect to find in the shop but are only available through the ship's infirmary. I don't know if it's the case on all major cruise lines, but last year while on a transatlantic cruise, my husband was badly in need of some Niquil. We didn't have any, but I did have some packets of expired flu powder in our travel medical supplies. Before resorting to using them, we checked the ship's shops. We were told we could only obtain cold medicine from the infirmary. The infirmary charged 24.00 dollars, so we took our chances on the expired flu powder.
@shawnh4587 I hope you love Alaska as much as I do!! On each of my five trips, on 'Glacier Viewing Day', I wore a turtleneck, a fleece top, a raincoat with a hood, and, a pair of small stretchy gloves. Really glad I had the texting type gloves so I could take pictures We always have a balcony, so when it got too cold up on deck, we ran back to the stateroom to warm up a little, then enjoyed the amazing views and sounds from the veranda.
We take the "extender" but also one that works for "European" outlet also. Double the extended power sources if it's on an older ship with limited electrical outlets and no USB ports. We have a USB fan and small desk fan. Depends on the ship.
I like to bring my alarm clock that mimics the sun coming up. It’s a USB and since we stay in inside cabins often, it’s a great way to lighten the room in the morning to let your body know it’s time to wake up
We leave soon for a cruise on Navigator of the Seas. I've been following your UA-cam channel and one other person's channel and now have most of these items for our cruise. Thanks so much for your tips and tricks!
On a 14+ day cruise, let me tell you. That shoe organizer is very helpful. Pain reliever, hair spray, foot powder, little shampoo bottles, random cold medicine... it never ends. Just handy as can be.
Heads up! Royal Caribbean has now banned any USB Outlets that have plug ins so only the USB C charger blocks are now allowed - C1 and A1. I bought the other kind for a Princess cruise last year which works on their ships and probably all others like Carnival and Norwegian. Also, regarding irons, Princess had irons available for use in their laundry rooms. Not sure about other ship lines though.
I found a very small plastic step stool that folds flat and easily slides into a suitcase. It’s great for the shower so you can prop up a foot to help shave your legs!
I used packing cubes, magnetic hooks, lanyard was an inconvienence taking that key pass out (just started using my wallet) left my 40 oz insulated mug at home (whine whine) no one cared about a few wrinkled clothes. I did take liquid hand soap. HAIR goes wild on deck. I did not bring a cosmetic bag room for all items in bathroom.
what makes an outlet extender ok but a power strip not? is it the form? (no long cord?) or is the key feature not having a surge protector feature...so a power strip without a surge protector is ok? an outlet extender looks to me just like the shortest form of a power strip...?
I always wondered why everybody is bringing sooooo much luggage on a cruise ship, but those 21 must haves are already filling a suitcase which is bigger than what I would bring in total to a 14 day cruise. Carry on only is the key, not only on planes, also when boarding a ship.
I have a small 'stackable' pill container w/compartments that screw together that I carry ibuprofen, aspirin, benadryl, Imodium, etc. I refill it after I get home and put it back in my carryon so it's ready for my next trip.
I’m going on my first cruise ever to Alaska in the first week of August. I cannot figure out how to dress because of the weather. Can anyone give me advice for that? Much appreciated.
I have only been in SE Alaska but in the last week I have worn shorts and tshirt a couple of days, pants most of the time and tshirt with either a rain jacket or long sleeve shirt. In the mornings it was chilly enough that I was wearing a sweatshirt. On the ferry ride up I had all my layers on and a beanie.
Bring a lanyard with the retractable pull out. They are expensive to buy on board. Never thought about bringing a fan. Good tip. We brought the allowed 12 packs of soda each. Didn't have to buy the soda pkg. The magnetic hooks didn't work on our last cruise. Kept slipping down the wall. We also brought towel clips for the loungers. The breeze can blow your towel around and you can clip you bathing suit to your balcony chair to dry without fear of it blowing away. Does anyone know if the white noise machine works to block a snoring partner?
Depending on what your hanging, you probably just need stronger magnetic hooks. I had to upgrade mine too. The lbs they claim are for a force pulling straight down (like from the ceiling), not from the side (like when hanging from the wall). Before investing in a white noise machine, try using a white noise app on your phone instead. I just upgraded to the towel bands, they take up less room. Then I bring a couple small clothes pins if I have a balcony or just use the clothes line inside the shower if not.
@hollypotter6989 When my husband & I took our first cruise in 2010 on Celebrity Millennium, I was so concerned that his snoring would keep me awake that I booked a cabin near the onboard library so that I would have a quiet place to go if it became unbearable. When discussing the issue with some friends a few months prior to our trip, they recommended a 'Pure Sleep' mouthguard, which we ordered on-line. The results were phenomenal; we both were able to get a good night's sleep! Might I suggest, though, a sleep study for the snoring partner? My husband did one and ended up with a CPAP machine (which he always traveled with). That does not count for carry-on restrictions and I bought a medical device luggage tag so the gate agents could easily identify it. A white noise machine would not help me to sleep, but the Pure Sleep mouthguard was an absolute life changer!
I do not travel without e bags any more. On the last cruise they were a lifesaver since the wardrobe in the cabin was such a stupid thing.... hardly any hanging space - a shame for two people with normal sizes and a travel time of more than 3 weeks (b2b)... Plus the size and shape of the shelves being very unusual to say the least. We always have enough adapters along for the different ships A night light for bathroom visits (when we have an inside cabin) is very helpful I never needed any magnets. And I also never decorate the stateroom doors. Most of that stuff is so downright ugly and obviously only used for finding the cabin after lots of booze. 😁
Thank goodness my daughter bought me a USB fan last year prior to trips on Celebrity Apex and Royal's Allure of the Seas. No problem on either line. It came in even handier while staying with friends in the Netherlands who have NO air-conditioning in their home!🥵
@@mea3665 You just have to know where to punch the hole so as to keep the embedded antenna intact. Shine an LED flashlight from the opposite side of the key card and you can see where the antenna trace is, and avoid punching close to that. It usually runs near the outside edge, all the way around.
When checking in online, is there a way to upload an existing selfie pic and pic of a passport from a file rather than having to take a selfie and scan the passport at the time you check in? I usually get up at midnight to check in, which is not a great time to wake up a spouse for a selfie.
I wasn't sure about those laundry detergent packs. I wasn't sure if they were safe for the environment and stuff. If they are. Great! I found a portable laundry machine (looks just like a duffel bag) that's easy to travel with and would make cleaning my clothes a little easier.
Just saw that a portable washing machine was confiscated (I think it was Carnival). They will probably be banning them. I'm not sure what kind it was. Maybe one of those found on Temu.
@@hollypotter6989 Yeah, I saw that video. The one they talked about was an actual electrical device. The one I have, and have taken on multiple cruises, is like a literal bag you fill with water and detergent and you roll it around the floor (preferred shower floor). It's pretty cool
We remembered to bring sunscreen on our cruise…. but got badly burned anyway. I DIDNT bring sunburn lotion (aloe Vera gel type of lotion) and that would have been a lifesaver. Now we know! Bring your own mask and snorkel! Renting them is grosssss 🤮
Here's a list of 21 essential items I always pack for a cruise to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip: 1. Passport and travel documents to make sure everything is up to date, including visas if necessary. 2. All prescribed medications, plus basic over-the-counter remedies for common ailments like headaches or allergies. 3. Sunscreen with a high SPF to protect against the strong sun. 4. Sunglasses, which are a must for those bright days on deck or during shore excursions. 5. A wide-brimmed hat for sun protection. 6. Comfortable footwear, including walking shoes for excursions and flip-flops for the pool or beach. 7. Formal attire for those cruises that have formal dining nights. 8. Swimwear for the pool, hot tubs, and any beach stops. 9. A beach towel, although some cruise lines provide these, it’s always good to check first. 10. A day bag to carry essentials like sunscreen and a camera on excursions. 11. A waterproof phone case to protect my phone from water when I’m near the pool or on beach outings. 12. A camera to capture all those memorable moments, although sometimes I just use my smartphone. 13. Travel adapters and chargers for all my electronic devices. 14. A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and reduce plastic use. 15. A light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings or windy days on deck. 16. Toiletries, including toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant. 17. A small first aid kit with bandages, antiseptic wipes, and seasickness remedies. 18. Seasickness bands or medication, just in case, especially since I'm prone to motion sickness. 19. Books or an e-reader for relaxing on deck or in my cabin. 20. Light snacks for those times between meals or for when I'm out on an excursion. 21. Earplugs and an eye mask, which are essential for sleeping in potentially noisy environments or if there's light in my cabin at night. Packing these items helps me cover all the basics and ensures I’m prepared for various activities and weather conditions.
Wow, I just got back from a cruise and I also had every one ☝🏼 of these things you listed. Very practical. I also had a hands-free neck fan that was wonderful on hot excursion buses and walking tours.
Not sure what qualifies as 'older' but I'm 65+ and pack at least 12 of the 21 items, including over the counter meds in a stackable pill case, packing cubes, shampoo & conditioner, wrinkle release spray, & zip lock bags. Takes up very little room, but invaluable to have.
@@SharonPerson-hm9ds not sure if youre posting just to agree with what i said. 65+ qualifies as older. 12 out of 21 is about half, you're older and use more of these items. im way younger than 65 and im using about 4/5 of these. so you're proving my point like i already said, most of these are for older people 👍

They also make you go to the clinic for imodium. If you need it, they want to see you.🤢
We had the over the door organizer 👍, the usb/outlet extender 👍, magnetic hooks 👍👍, and the lanyards 👍. All made cruising so much smoother.
Anything else you’d add to his list?
We're sailing at the end of May going to Alaska. Thanks to videos like this has helped so much to get ready. Thank you for your videos.
@shawnh4587 Have cruised to Alaska five times; I love it there! Is this your first trip?
@@SharonPerson-hm9ds yes it is our first trip to Alaska.
@shawnh4587 I hope you love Alaska as much as I do!!
On each of my five trips, on 'Glacier Viewing Day', I wore a turtleneck, a fleece top, a raincoat with a hood, and, a pair of small stretchy gloves. Really glad I had the texting type gloves so I could take pictures
We always have a balcony, so when it got too cold up on deck, we ran back to the stateroom to warm up a little, then enjoyed the amazing views and sounds from the veranda.
Thanknyou for all information, Going on first cruise Jan 2025 a 7 day . I dont want to over pack. Want to make sure i have what we need
We take the "extender" but also one that works for "European" outlet also. Double the extended power sources if it's on an older ship with limited electrical outlets and no USB ports.
We have a USB fan and small desk fan. Depends on the ship.
Bring a large usb battery for your usb powered fan to have bedside where there is no outlet. you charge it back up during the daytime
I found some motion sensor end, usb rechargeable, nightlights that are magnetic and they stick to the wall…brilliant!!!
I’m going to try the white noise machine. Ear plugs are also essential if you are rooming with others who you don’t typically room with :).
The ear plugs are also a must if you got the guarantee cabin as you aren't sure if what will be near you is noisy.
My fan is a white nose machine
All great ideas and we are sailing end of May and will be using alot of these!
I like to bring my alarm clock that mimics the sun coming up. It’s a USB and since we stay in inside cabins often, it’s a great way to lighten the room in the morning to let your body know it’s time to wake up
This sounds like a wonderful idea. Did you get it on Amazon? What’s it called?

I take sanitizer for things like the remote, knobs & switches. (I even sanitize our shower)
We leave soon for a cruise on Navigator of the Seas. I've been following your UA-cam channel and one other person's channel and now have most of these items for our cruise. Thanks so much for your tips and tricks!
Me too! May 24!! So excited lol
Thanks for watching. Hope Navigator is fantastic!
We are too! May 10 - 17!
We are as well! May 6-10th 😊
Our Carnival cruise ships have always had public ironing rooms.
That’s great to know.
Had a good laugh at the thumbnail. Yes, don’t let me forget my 1. Pillow, 2. Other pillow, 3. Desk, 4. Bed 😂
I was on the fence about which air freshner to get: Tofume (dissolvable tablets) or Febreze small spaces.
I was confused by this as well and realized this video was posted 6 months ago, so I’m not sure it’s still allowed…?
I use laundry sheets, not liquid detergent, so I bring these on trips, and they don't have to count as a liquid on flights.
I’m going to need a whole separate suitcase for these 21 items. (So I guess I now need 22 items) lol
I said that bring own shampoo and bar soap for shower and band aids hard to get or crazy expensive
I always wondered why everybody is bringing sooooo much luggage on a cruise ship, but those 21 must haves are already filling a suitcase which is bigger than what I would bring in total to a 14 day cruise. Carry on only is the key, not only on planes, also when boarding a ship.
On our cruise last week one guest was asking for Imodium on our Facebook page, the store didn’t have any.
I have a small 'stackable' pill container w/compartments that screw together that I carry ibuprofen, aspirin, benadryl, Imodium, etc. I refill it after I get home and put it back in my carryon so it's ready for my next trip.
Now you have to carry an additional suitcase to carry all this stuff !!
I empty one of my packing cubes for dirty clothes and wash it along with the clothes .
Lanyard holder, a smaller fan than I’ve been hauling around and magnetic hooks.
At 4:51, wasn’t that a soap dispenser? Some people use the pop-up hamper to corral all the shoes, too!
Isn't the ceiling also steel made too?
White noise won't stop the partner from snoring but the towel clip on their nose will 😊
@@petejensen9157😂😂😂😂😂😂
I do not travel without e bags any more.
On the last cruise they were a lifesaver since the wardrobe in the cabin was such a stupid thing.... hardly any hanging space - a shame for two people with normal sizes and a travel time of more than 3 weeks (b2b)...
Plus the size and shape of the shelves being very unusual to say the least.
We always have enough adapters along for the different ships
A night light for bathroom visits (when we have an inside cabin) is very helpful
I never needed any magnets. And I also never decorate the stateroom doors.
Most of that stuff is so downright ugly and obviously only used for finding the cabin after lots of booze. 😁

Alway check what you are allowed to bring on board, some cruise lines do limit fans.
Thank goodness my daughter bought me a USB fan last year prior to trips on Celebrity Apex and Royal's Allure of the Seas. No problem on either line.
It came in even handier while staying with friends in the Netherlands who have NO air-conditioning in their home!🥵
All the above
I use the shoe organizer definitely for organized storage. And liquid hand soap for sure

Instead of a portable white noise machine, I use an app on my phone!
We use a suitcase as a hamper....just keep the top unzipped and fill it up
Smart cookie
Line it with a garbage bag.
I always bring a hole puncher to punch a hole in my card to put on my lanyard.
Not a good idea heard that if you do that on some of the cards it makes them useless!
@@mea3665 You just have to know where to punch the hole so as to keep the embedded antenna intact. Shine an LED flashlight from the opposite side of the key card and you can see where the antenna trace is, and avoid punching close to that. It usually runs near the outside edge, all the way around.
Wouldn’t it easier to just insert card into a clear case that’s attached to the lanyard? It’s reusable too.
When checking in online, is there a way to upload an existing selfie pic and pic of a passport from a file rather than having to take a selfie and scan the passport at the time you check in? I usually get up at midnight to check in, which is not a great time to wake up a spouse for a selfie.
You can upload a photo you already have in your phone. My hubby was asleep, I used a pic I already had.
@@AccordingToRobin I did almost the same, took a photo of some extra passport photos and uploaded them.
About the only one I might need is the outlet extender.
I carry a hanging toiletry bag instead of a shoe bag.
Hydration packets bc we know plain water doesn’t hydrate enough on its own.
Here's a list of 21 essential items I always pack for a cruise to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip:
To remember
Wow, I just got back from a cruise and I also had every one ☝🏼 of these things you listed. Very practical. I also had a hands-free neck fan that was wonderful on hot excursion buses and walking tours.

Not cheap magnets. They don't hold
True. And the weight indicated is for hanging from above, not on walls.

No air freshener. My husband and I are allergic to fragrances.
Royal has banned the outlet extender
I would add to this list socks and underwear.
You forgot the most important items on a Virgin Voyages cruise:
1. Pineapple magnet
2. Doxycycline
3. Air Freshener

21 essentials....... I probably use about 4 or 5 of the things on this list, evrything else is a waste(imo) or for older people
Not sure what qualifies as 'older' but I'm 65+ and pack at least 12 of the 21 items, including over the counter meds in a stackable pill case, packing cubes, shampoo & conditioner, wrinkle release spray, & zip lock bags.
