    Not to be a downer but I feel my experience should be heard. I’ve had two of these now and both crapped out during set up. I’m not an experienced builder but have had many review my build and confirm nothing I could have done that would have caused both to die. Spintend had various trouble shooting steps they had me try (that I already tried) and basically gave up and told me to send back for a refund. On one hand I can see their point but on the other I was frustrated because I really put my money and trust into this new product and they basically blamed me for the issue and sent me to buy elsewhere. Now I’ve got there lights I bought and a horn I purchase (3rd party) that aren’t going to work. I hope my experience was a one off cause the more players in the market will only benefit the hobby. But I wanted people to know in case there is an issue they need to address.

    Thanks for your great reviews on the VESCs!
    I live in a very hilly area and I had some bad experiences with my old VESC riding down hills and the brake stopped working. Which VESC (UBox, Stormcore 60D, Foxbox Unity) do you think has the best and reliable brakes for going down steep hills? Thanks for your answer.

    • @DIYesk8Builders

    • @mikegrok
      @mikegrok 3 роки тому +1

      Your “problem” is probably the speed controller attempting to regenerate power into a full battery. If you are starting from the top of the hill, try changing your battery to 80% instead of 100%.

    • @ChrisLaingDance
      @ChrisLaingDance 2 роки тому +1

      Oh man, me too. There's nothing worse than brakes failing at the top of a long, long hill and speed builds up so fast, past the point of bailing whilst you still can.
      Because this had happened way too many times for me, regardless of the controller used, I needed something reliable to guarantee safe braking.
      I have a few mountain boards with tethered brake cables and decided to use on my board.
      It opened many other useful uses.
      First, the cable goes to the front 2 wheels.
      I only ride boards with pneumatic off road tires, because, I ride off road too.
      They're softer, and my boards look beefier.
      The brakes operate on discs attached to the wheels, like bicycles.
      Seemed to work, but not much help at top of mountain with steep decline.
      So, I switched to drum brakes.
      Yes, they make them.
      Perfect. Stops as smoothly as you want, guaranteed.
      Now I realize you don't ride off road, but how often have you wanted to or needed to. Only a matter of time till you do. Besides, you can still ride on road, and ignore any holes or uneven roads.
      The other useful part of having a dumb tethered cable to the front of your board is, you never have to pick your board up to get over/around/passed something.
      It's on a leash.
      Just drag it, or steer it using the cable.
      Something I never expected would be so useful.
      Since it's a bike cable, it's thin and strong, and not really noticable when riding. It does however use your other hand, so can't hold stuff.
      Personally, I can only go as fast as I can stop.
      And that's about 36mph.
