    I'm not a computer technician but it's common sense to remove the battery first if you disconnect any cables. And by the way, I changed the thermal paste on my HP Omen, it was a lot of anxiety due to the number of screws. First time well done.

      It's thermal paste and not liquid metal. Just put enough as it's not conductive. Liquid metal is only time that requires finesse.

    I was following the steps but the heat sink doesn't want to come off, like it's glued on the motherboard
    Edit: In case someone reads this comment in the future, i managed to do it. I didn't remove the black tape between the heat pipes and the fans, it wasn't obvious that it was the issue but it worked like a charm once i took it off

    Thank you so much! My Omen was constantly running on around 95-100°C.
    Together with the official repair video by hp (uploaded here on UA-cam) I managed to repaste my omen and remove the insane amount of dust in it! Even though I had no experience with computers whatsoever. Now I can even reasonably play Hogwarts legacy without overheating. Staying at 80°C now! Thanks a lot!❤

      80° c is still a little high but manageable If you go and limit the power settings to the processor to 99% it will keep it a lot lower. But you'll lose like 5 frames or a quality setting.

    Thanks. This helped me with replacing the paste on my HP Oment Laptop today.
    It was over heating, and I thought (and hoped) that it was just a problem. With the paste, and not my new nvme ssd.
    Some of the paste was a bid hardened, so I will see if this is the solution for me.

    I am a huge noob when it comes to this and I will be working on my HP Omen 15 for the first time. I am having some heat and sound issues. The heat is not enough to every force it to shut off but it is almost always pretty hot even if I just have a couple tabs of chrome open. For the audio, sound has gotten quiet and some times one of the speakers seems to stop working. Do you have any tips for a rookie like what kind of thermal past to use and tips on applying it?

    I have redone my thermal paste 4 time with different amounts and my laptop just gets hotter and hotter. GPU at 78c CPU at 94c-97c when playing COD. I7 9750h with GTX 1660Ti with 200Mhz overclock. It use to run at 70 on the GPU and 92 on CPU with the bad HP paste. I'm using Arctic MX5.

    • @LatetotheShow
      @LatetotheShow  3 роки тому +1

      Replace the thermal tape on the m.2 and make sure you add the tape back this is important to keep thr air flow by the fans and always play AC connected. Another tip update the latest firmware for the GPU and the CPU

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole 3 роки тому +1

      You need to put enough thermal paste, not excessive either, just enough to cover the whole surface. Arctic MX5 is as good as MX4, I used MX4 in my Dell XPS 9560, the gain is big because the throttling is not 800Mhz but at 1.6Mhz, with the same temperature when playing Dirt 4. Before was not playable at 800Mhz CPU clock. I also repaste my XPS 9570 with i7-8750 6 cores, XTU benchmarks show a drop of temperature from 98C max to 85C max and no more thermal throttling shown in XTU, only power throttling that can only be overcome by undervolting. XTU scores also increased from 1400 to 1590, the bottleneck was not the CPU temperature anymore in my XPS 9570, but the BIOS power limitation. I have not repaste my OMEN-15, too much work and the cover is plastic that really hard to open. I suspect you put too little thermal paste, for laptop, it is a good practice to spread the thermal paste in the whole surface of the chip homogenously in a thin layer.
