TheNewKnight the thing with 3D is that it has to be rendered (calculate all the textures, shadows, object colors in different lightings, and calculate the distance and perspectives so you convert it into a 2D image since our screens are 2D). If it is a movie, it doesn't matter how much time it takes, you can make it super detailed and go to sleep while the pc generates a movie file (depending on what you are doing, each frame can take hours or days), then you don't have to render anything again. Now with videogames the thing is different, everytime something moves or the light changes you have to render again from a different perspective (and you want 60 frames per second, no 1 frame per hour), and make ugly algebra to calculate if a model is touching another model (collission), so your character doesn't go through things like a ghost (this includes the floor). This doesn't mean it is impossible, but it requires a lot of performance consideration from the developer and a very good GPU to run it. So, being able to do a movie this realistic doesn't mean we already have the tech to create one in realtime (IDK if we have games like this already).

I feel like I read the ending of Sonnie's Edge totally differently, not that she suffers and is trapped in the body of a monster (as, given that they already moved her consciousness once, it is possible to move her consciousness into a human form) but that she has suffered and is stronger for it. Sonnie herself even says that all people see when they look at her is a victim, but she doesn't see herself that way; she uses her new form to fight for survival and to prove that she is no longer the prey, but a predator to be feared. Obviously that is just my take on it, it's always interesting to see what other people think. Re-watching the episode you can also see SO many little hints to the reveal. E.g. they don't swap the connection to the monster, they turn 'off' the connection to the human body; the lack of reaction of her human body in comparison to the heightened emotions of her competitor during the battle; her subtly closing the door of the locker that her human body is stored in when she meets the blonde girl in the truck... One of my favourite episodes by far ♥️
From what I know Lucky 13 is from a scifi book series called Frontlines, its a side story from it focusing on the main characters love interest and her time in the military while he was in his section of it.
beyond the aquila rift made the most impact on me, maybe thats becasue i love horror and the halo games but damn. shivers down my spine. i need more like that.
I feel you horrifically missed the mark with salesmen. It isn't about destroying the lives of salesmen and such, its about appreciating the past vs being lost and consumed by the past. The older man talks about how the whole area used to be a shallow ocean and then they see the fish from the past. The older man looks in awe ans appreciates what he sees while the younger man gets overwhelmed by the past and immerses himself in it to the point he is lost by the past.
Almost did shed a tear with Zima Blue, gotta admit. There's something about the big questions and the small answers that is so, so beautiful. While so many other episodes are amazing, Zima Blue is just transcendental.
#10: The edge isn't that Sonnie is "trapped" in the monster body; Sonnie IS the monster. The monster is using the human body as the avatar, not the other way around.
I wish that were the case, but in my opinion the dialogue makes it very clear that she was attacked and that human was her old body. "The night Wes and Ivrina found me, they managed to save that body, but those estate f*cks had broken *my* skull." In all honesty I wish some of the dialogue was omitted so we're left to wonder if, 1.) Sonnie was always the monster (her human form is quiet, and it would have been cool if her human shell died instantly without saying a word). 2.) Sonnie was once human, but transferred her consciousness into the beastie ever since the accident. 3.) Sonnie transfered her consciousness into the beastie once her human form was killed for good.
Good idea for a series or movie 1. Shapeshifters (werewolves in the army) 2. Good Hunting (cyborg yokai) 3. Three Robots (futuristic comedy) Good idea for games 1. Suits (it would be bigger than Fortnite) 2. Sonnie's Edge (Pokemon with extra steps) 3. Blindspot (cyborg GTA)
I had a huge anxiety attack after watching Aquila Rift, especially after the big reveal. I literally didn’t believe anything in my life was “real”. I called my dad and hearing his voice all I could think was “I’m listening to something prerecorded”. Looking back it was a wild experience, in the moment I was scared shitless. Lol thanks Netflix
What I really loved about the series is that the episodes can present you with an interesting idea and message that goes along with the overall story but it doesn't beat you over the head and shove it down your throat. Zima Blue, although not one of my favorites, does question what's important finding the unknown truths or enjoying the simplicity of what we already know. Beyond the Aquida Rift asked if you want the horrible truth or the beautiful lie. They give you the option to just see the stories or explore their meanings and that's really awesome to me.
The Mystery of Aquila Rift is my personal favorite. It reminds me how life and reality in general is actually very subjective. Nothing matters. It all just means what we want. Intelligence, purpose, thought. It means nothing. We make reality what we want it to be. How we get it doesn't matter.
Good Hunting was definitely my favorite episode, I just loved EVERYTHING about it. I kind of wished that it would become it's own series, but I also understand that some things are better in small pieces.
Aquila rift is so misunderstood like the alien doesn't want these people to suffer so she makes a reality that they can enjoy. Its shows that even the most terrifying creatures can have a kind heart.
This was my initial interpretation. Not that the alien was showing them a false reality and preying on them. But that it was giving them peace. But I think the alien mentions that this has all happened before. So, it's still a possibility that it's luring them in.
Yeah my interpretation is the Alien Hive-Mind gives them a false reality to keep them at peace while they're being used. Nefarious but not completely malevolent. They also have the decency to show them reality if they truly want it, rather than forcibly trapping them in a simulated reality against their will.
Season 2 is coming up and I honestly can’t wait. This and Season 3 of Final Space will probably kill my sleepscedule all over again. Also Good Hunting had the best drawn (I guess) artstyle, change my mind.
155 comments and not one person mentions Sucker of Souls? That was my favorite episode. I feel like people don't like it because it ends in the biggest cliffhanger. The art style in that episode was equally as unique for animation as Fish Night.
It's not much of a cliffhanger. Even though it does fade to black it's kind of obvious theyre fucked. I enjoyed it but what I found disappointing is how rushed and short it was. The characters didn't really grab my attention and the action was short. Maybe if it was a few minutes longer it would've been more enjoyable.
The end of the werewolf scene I thought was rather different perspective then you gave. The man who hated the werewolves threw the show stood his ground in front of him but had respect enough to step aside and let him pass. He lost the respect of his commander but gained the respect of his peers
I want to add to the fish episode, which you ranked on 7, that it's a homage or reference to icarus fall. You didn't mention it but the similarities are undeniable. Father and son, son flies literally too high and doesn't see the risks like his father who also enjoyed it but from a safe distance. Have a nice day
I actually interpret sonnys edge as she is the monster and controls the human body( from her past) her troubled past was that she was permanently put in the monster body and when in a cage she controls the human body so she the opposite of every other fight who’s fighting to fight but she is fighting to win, and that’s why she wins
Lucky 13 and shapeshifters were written by the same author. In the case of shapeshifters in warfare there is a lot of context lost in the show. I do hope they use some more of his work in coming seasons.
The good thing about LDR is that there is something for practically every fan of animation. For me, the more photo realistic segments of animation were more my top pics with the exception of "Ice Age".
This entire series was amazing to watch, even the funnier light-hearted ones, but its the episodes "Secret War", "Beyond the Aquila Rift", and "Shapeshifters" that left a lasting impression on me.
Good Hunting is probably my favourite episode overall, but Zima Blue is without a doubt the most beautiful and thought-provoking story in terms of its message and symbolism.
the zima blue reminds me of an old joke.... a millionaire is on a fishing vacation, and he sees an amazing fisherman... *millionaire* : hey why wont you use 2 rods.... *fisherman* : why would i do that? *millionaire* : you will make more money maybe even open a company, people will work for you. *fisherman* : i dont get it *millionaire* : what is your favorite thing in the whole world? *fisherman* : fishing! *millionaire* : see, if you work really hard and make lots of money. you could come here for a vacation like me and fish.
In case ya didn’t know, netflixed used their recommended algorithm to make a personalized order of the episodes for each person. Sonnies edge was the 5th episode for me. It’s pretty cool to think about
I love the approach of the debris in "Helping Hand". It seems slow… until we see the satellite rush closer. A great visualization of space and orbital mechanics.
@@THEGREATMEMEWIZARD Look up Peter F Hamilton. Sonnie's Edge is from a compilation of short stories called Second Chance at Eden. But the real treat is the Night's Dawn trilogy set in the same universe as Sonnie's Edge. There are some absolutely brutal set pieces - definitely in my top ten all time books.
for the sonnie's edge, i could be wrong but, i believe the twist isn't that she has to live in the monster body it's that she is the monster. the monster uses the human body as a vessel similarly to how humans use the monsters a vessels.
TheMatthew001 Yeah, but I think it’s because she was in the monster when she was attacked and her body was destroyed so she’s trapped in the monster. At least that’s what I got from it.
Eliza Snow the reason I think she is the monster just using the human as a meat vessel is because of the beginning conversation and her “edge”. At the beginning they are offered a large sum of money for their monster, but they decline because the monster is “special” to them, because the monster is their friend. The other reason is the “I fight for my life”, when the other monster dies in the fight the guy controlling it is fine. I wouldn’t call that fighting for your life if when you die nothing happens. Now if she was the monster dying in the fight means she would be dead. There’s also a line after she’s attacked, saying how the girl was “already dead” or brain dead or something. Essentially she says that the body was meaningless as it wasn’t actually her. It’s all speculation, but I think it’s a better twist if she was the monster. Rather than just getting trapped in the monster.
@@TheMatthew001 there's o twist. She was trapped in the monster. They could save the body but it's just a vessel but it was originally her body. Her consciousness is just inside the monster. Plus they didn't offer them money for their monster. They're offered to lose the fight for a large sum of money. And the reason they declined is because she's inside the monster. For her it's not about revenge or pride. She's just simply fighting for her life.
Echoing a lot of comments here, but how are you gonna talk about the most powerful moments of LD+R and not include the final stand in Secret War? Some of the most vicious, visceral animation and cinematography I've ever seen. Incredible episode.
Most of these shorts were pretty great with some exceptionally great like 3 robots. However. . . Suits is just on a different level all together. Honestly I just want more!!! (probably as close as we'll get to a StarCraft Movie).
So great to see a Peter F Hamilton story from the Confederation universe on screen. Sonnie's Edge was a nice little short story - I just wish someone would take on the whole Night's Dawn trilogy. It would be brutal.
3:47- “This (fictional CGI story) is really moving because it shows the discrimination (against werewolves)that still exists from many in the armed forces” 😂
I've been on the search for an animated show that comes even close to making me feel what I felt when I watched this whole series and ZERO have given me that feeling. LD&R is just phenomenal.
Plus, in “Dogs of War” in the very beginning when the two werewolf soldiers had one in front and one in back. In real life wolf packs the leaders would be positioned in the front and back. So they could protect the elderly, children, and wounded of the pack in the middle- lastly the leaders could detect predators, food, and/or be tasked with warning everyone. I LOOOVVVEEE the details in this show!👍🏾
"When the Yogurt took over" is also a really awesome episode. not because of the art style or the humor (even tho both are world class). The Yogurt isn't evil. it's just a more evolved life form. Better than humans in every way. And it seems benevolent. but maybe it's not.

I agree with your assessment
Same
Agreed
Lucky 13 touch my heart, truly sad in the end
All Praise the Omnissiah!
Agree, I also thought the pilot should have died with her ship
good story but too short to make me sad.
her moment of emotion especially felt rushed to me
But the way the character displayed emotion was great
Also loved that one. This whole things was pretty freaking great, but that one got me in the feels. Rest ye 13, you earned it.
I felt the same way. I liked them all, loved several, but BTAR was soul shredding.
Zima Blue will stuck in my mind forever, that 10mins of pure Art was just stunning...
Right on the mark with that 👍
I'm a little dissapointed about the fact that you didn't put in secret war I really loved that episode.
Almost did shed a tear with Zima Blue, gotta admit. There's something about the big questions and the small answers that is so, so beautiful. While so many other episodes are amazing, Zima Blue is just transcendental.
Secret war was the most beautiful and fun to watch
False
@Demiclea secret war and lucky 13 are the top 2 boring episodes
BREW that’s funny, those 2 episodes are one of the best ones in my opinion
@@networkplayer01 No one asked for your opinion
@@cj16423 you should have waited 10 more yars to answer I'm not readt yet
#10: The edge isn't that Sonnie is "trapped" in the monster body; Sonnie IS the monster. The monster is using the human body as the avatar, not the other way around.
Sonny was always in the monster, she just controls her body through an implant
All Praise the Omnissiah!
yea don't know how this guy missed that
I wish that were the case, but in my opinion the dialogue makes it very clear that she was attacked and that human was her old body.
"The night Wes and Ivrina found me, they managed to save that body, but those estate f*cks had broken *my* skull."
In all honesty I wish some of the dialogue was omitted so we're left to wonder if,
1.) Sonnie was always the monster (her human form is quiet, and it would have been cool if her human shell died instantly without saying a word).
2.) Sonnie was once human, but transferred her consciousness into the beastie ever since the accident.
3.) Sonnie transfered her consciousness into the beastie once her human form was killed for good.
Good idea for a series or movie
1. Shapeshifters (werewolves in the army)
2. Good Hunting (cyborg yokai)
3. Three Robots (futuristic comedy)
Good idea for games
1. Suits (it would be bigger than Fortnite)
2. Sonnie's Edge (Pokemon with extra steps)
3. Blindspot (cyborg GTA)
1. Marines. Not army
Good hunting imo deserves it's own series the most, so much potential with the story.
Also good Idea for games:
1#: Secret war (WW2 shooter with monsters of hell)
Well in mean titanfall could be suits in a way...
Damn imagening my fav. shooter with this survival alien theme could be amazing
Sonnie's Edge would be a movie also
I had a huge anxiety attack after watching Aquila Rift, especially after the big reveal. I literally didn’t believe anything in my life was “real”. I called my dad and hearing his voice all I could think was “I’m listening to something prerecorded”. Looking back it was a wild experience, in the moment I was scared shitless. Lol thanks Netflix
secret wars story line was greatest.. awesome depiction of soldiers' spirit
Indeed i very much agree with you good sir
Yes, but I always wondered.. why do the monsters from Secret Wars look so similar to the monsters from episode 4?
Christian Smith you might be on to something! Maybe they were on one of the other colonies
I especially loved that Episode. Seeing PPsH 41's and Mosin Nagants shooting at hell creatures was awesome.
Damn right. Those men died HARD, and they died TOGETHER to the man. Just fantastic, in a heart rending way that is lol.
Shape-Shifters hit me hard, because I felt what he felt when he found his battle buddy dead. Also, those aren't soldiers, those are Marines. Semper Fi
Beat me to it devil. Rah
And it’s not happening in Iraq.
I kmew that Zima Blue would be in first place, it is simply a masterpiece.
Now, Sonny's Edge reminded me about Real Steel. You know, controlling the robots or.. monsters.
Fightings and all.. 👌
The Mystery of Aquila Rift is my personal favorite. It reminds me how life and reality in general is actually very subjective.
Nothing matters. It all just means what we want. Intelligence, purpose, thought. It means nothing. We make reality what we want it to be. How we get it doesn't matter.
Zima Blue is a fricking masterpiece.
Good Hunting was definitely my favorite episode, I just loved EVERYTHING about it. I kind of wished that it would become it's own series, but I also understand that some things are better in small pieces.
Zima blue made me me cry when I realized what his plan was in his final piece.
Not even attempting to convey this rudely or anything I loved this video, but I feel like you did Sonnies edge reveal dirty. That was soooo dope to me
The animation on The witness its just mindblowing. I couldnt realize if it was live action or animation
Aquila Rift REALLY fucked up my brother to the point that he has called me midnight telling me that he had a nightmare about it.
Zatiel.D LaBrie tell me more
After 20 years in the US Army, Lucky 13 legit made me tear up.
Right there with you brother.
Same here bro, heartbreaking
I'm still waiting for the follow up to Lincoln shot first.
"How good do you want the animation?"
Director: *yes*
for me, zima blue is number 1!
Burak Şenol Amen.
Secret war that is all I'm gonna say
Thank god you placed Zima Blue in number 1.
When I saw that episode, I was in awe, it’s honestly a masterpiece in my opinion.
You explained some of my favorite episodes perfectly. I hope they take the fans into consideration and make another season. I would love to see more.
I've rewatched Sonnie's Edge, Shape Shifters, and Beyond the Aquila Rift so many times. Each still gives me chills
@@geraldcastellano1988 I totally agree. The usual "we escaped -- oops, no we didn't" ending that is a staple of bad horror movies.
2:14 I don't know about you but having my consciousness transferred into a car sized killer tentacle lizard monster would thrill me to no end.
Is it just me or every episode of LRB seems like the trailer to an amazing video game
The Secret war the Russian episode was the very best and most amazing to me that ending was incredible
I gotta say, Suits didn't feel like a twist to me. It just seemed obvious.
The end of the werewolf scene I thought was rather different perspective then you gave. The man who hated the werewolves threw the show stood his ground in front of him but had respect enough to step aside and let him pass. He lost the respect of his commander but gained the respect of his peers
God damn the animation in each of these is spectacular in its own way. I _love_ each style
I want to add to the fish episode, which you ranked on 7, that it's a homage or reference to icarus fall. You didn't mention it but the similarities are undeniable.
Father and son, son flies literally too high and doesn't see the risks like his father who also enjoyed it but from a safe distance.
Have a nice day
I was looking for this comment. I felt there was a modern day Icarus component to the work.
The lucky 13 book is from a series by him called Frontlines, its real good
My favourite episode was Secret war cause it kinda showed how little singular person means and how big of a change they can make at same time
Zima blue was my favourite!!!!
The good thing about LDR is that there is something for practically every fan of animation. For me, the more photo realistic segments of animation were more my top pics with the exception of "Ice Age".
I would choose "Secret War"
Aquila Rift is my favorite.
Unlucky 13 is the saddest one
You didnt mention on of the colonialist symbolism and conotations in number 6 , modernality wasnt the true killer it was colonialism
It's westernization
@@elimkwok938 no its colonisation
thisssss thank you. its 100% colonialism
I was disappointed by him not mention it too
It actually modernization
This entire series was amazing to watch, even the funnier light-hearted ones, but its the episodes "Secret War", "Beyond the Aquila Rift", and "Shapeshifters" that left a lasting impression on me.
3 robots, luck 13 and Zima blue
I cried with Zima Blue.
@@sirrismendozasunlessrealms5775 zima blue is awesome, I didn't liked the artstyle but the storyline is so good 😍.
Funny how you took many episodes I didn't like or see as insignificant... except for zima blue, that is truly a masterpiece
I am extremely sad that Secret War didn’t even get an honorable mention.
*fisherman* : i dont get it
*millionaire* : what is your favorite thing in the whole world?
*fisherman* : fishing!
*millionaire* : see, if you work really hard and make lots of money. you could come here for a vacation like me and fish.
In case ya didn’t know, netflixed used their recommended algorithm to make a personalized order of the episodes for each person. Sonnies edge was the 5th episode for me. It’s pretty cool to think about
Lucky 13 is probably the most emotional one yet
I love the approach of the debris in "Helping Hand". It seems slow… until we see the satellite rush closer. A great visualization of space and orbital mechanics.
Top ten saddest anime deaths...
Lucky 13
I feel that
I just wish Sonnies Edge was a whole series... I loved it in so many ways... (and yes I know about the books its based on)
What books? Please I must know so that I may read them
@@THEGREATMEMEWIZARD Look up Peter F Hamilton. Sonnie's Edge is from a compilation of short stories called Second Chance at Eden. But the real treat is the Night's Dawn trilogy set in the same universe as Sonnie's Edge. There are some absolutely brutal set pieces - definitely in my top ten all time books.
@@Valisk Thank you good sir
for the sonnie's edge, i could be wrong but, i believe the twist isn't that she has to live in the monster body it's that she is the monster. the monster uses the human body as a vessel similarly to how humans use the monsters a vessels.
Man this series has some of the BEST CGI I've ever seen. Truly
I never thought of Suits as the farmers invading, I thought of it more as “why the hell did they settle there?” But that is an interesting twist
Echoing a lot of comments here, but how are you gonna talk about the most powerful moments of LD+R and not include the final stand in Secret War? Some of the most vicious, visceral animation and cinematography I've ever seen. Incredible episode.
I honestly hope LDR has another season of shorts, these were by far better than any movie I have watched
well. the aliens weren't really trying to defend themselves since all they did was run in and pretty much eat whatever they could get to
Most of these shorts were pretty great with some exceptionally great like 3 robots. However. . . Suits is just on a different level all together. Honestly I just want more!!! (probably as close as we'll get to a StarCraft Movie).
Literally has something for everyone. Being compressed makes the quality so high yet very depressing when it ends.
The Dump, I like how people who defend their home and wont let others take it away from it
So great to see a Peter F Hamilton story from the Confederation universe on screen. Sonnie's Edge was a nice little short story - I just wish someone would take on the whole Night's Dawn trilogy. It would be brutal.
3:47- “This (fictional CGI story) is really moving because it shows the discrimination (against werewolves)that still exists from many in the armed forces”
😂
I've been on the search for an animated show that comes even close to making me feel what I felt when I watched this whole series and ZERO have given me that feeling. LD&R is just phenomenal.
Good hunting was my favorite, but there were a lot of great moments.
I would watch an ENTIRE series based off of Sonnie's Edge. Why they haven't expanded on it, I'll never know.
I LOOOVVVEEE the details in this show!👍🏾
the last one almost made me cry
"When the Yogurt took over" is also a really awesome episode. not because of the art style or the humor (even tho both are world class). The Yogurt isn't evil. it's just a more evolved life form. Better than humans in every way. And it seems benevolent. but maybe it's not.
The beauty of this show, seen on the comments here, people that saw it related to it in a powerful manner. Feelings are the ultimate form of art.
But, hey. At least there's a friendly face here.
I NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE MEANING OF THE FARM MECHS EPISODE BUT IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW
When you're early and you don't know what to comment...
I've been waiting for a series like this since I was kid watching Heavy Metal.
