The emotional intelligence, humility and wisdom you guys have blows me away. It’s really amazing and inspiring to witness your love and tolerance for each other and your individual and unique strength of character. Keep taking it one day at a time! Watching this video gave me some confidence and inspiration to face my own problems head on with more grace and gratitude. Thanks for making these videos!!
Hi ladies! You all are such an inspiration! I loved this video! My husband, Mark was diagnosed w ALS, May 97. Like you said, we were in the prime of our lives, looking forward to our future together, & then “Bam!” everything changed. I’ve been my husband’s primary caregiver from day one. Still taking it one day at a time 25 years later. 🙂.
That is amazing and a blessing your husband is still with you 25 years later. My father is 4 years in his ALS journey and we are thankful for every day.
Thank you so much for that eye-opening comment about not worrying about the future and living in the moment. Already it has been a huge help to me. You are such an inspiration! ❤️❤️❤️
You girls are so sweet loving and beautiful! You are all so lucky to have each other I think it is absolutely wonderful that Mariah takes such good care of you! That is so good you all are going to counseling! I can only imagine what a hard time it was for mom during your accident she had so much on her plate..I have so much respect for her way to go Mom!!! You are very strong and I now know where Makayla got her strength from! Great video girls thank you for sharing with all of us have a great week see you in the next video!!!!
Your advice to take one moment at a time reaches the heart coz you know what you are talking about. You girls are really blessed to have this close relationship with each other. Thank you for sharing your journey so openly, it can help many to go through difficult times 💓💓💓💓
Beautiful strong intelligent women. My mom and I were not close, so it's heartwarming to see you all working on your relationships and life together. Thank you for sharing your journey!!
That a blessed relationship you girls have, life itself prepare you all for doing this. As a caregiver myself I understand how important self-care is, and also the advice of "take one day or one moment at a time", I'm writing that on my mirror so I can read it every day as soon as I wake up, I needed to hear that today💖💖💖
This is probably the most "real" video you have put out. Even Makayla's voice is true. If that makes sense. It not a "video" voice. She's speaking from her heart. There were some real gems of wisdom in this video. I am not a stranger to trauma that radically changes your life. Response is so much a part of the outcome. There is true peace and joy knowing that God handed you something you could handle. Apart from my trauma, I have watched my brother and sister-in-law travel the road you travel. They were in a car accident with their newborn and my sister in law suffered a broken neck leaving her a quadriplegic. 25+ years later, they've had three more children, built a business, and also pastor a church. Good will walk before you, behind you, and with you. Blessings to your family.
I recently just found your channel and I just wanted to say that I'm already super proud of you for being so positive during times like this. I honestly have no idea how you do it and I love you and your family so much. praying for a speedy recovery🤍
Thank you so much for the laughs. Just to watch you guys bounce off each other. I'm so humbled to come across your channel. Keep smiling it's contagious. Cheers Daz
I'm a nursing student and your story - yours alone - inspired me to learn about spinal cord injuries so I can make a difference for people like you one day in the future. youtube just recommended your day in the life video one day and it all started from there
Yall's honesty and faith is so refreshing ... you are so right most of social media is photoshopped to seem like everyone's life is so perfect and amazing and people tend to leave out how they really feel or the challenges that are happening in their life and so when we look at it we feel like our lives are messed up... so thank you for sharing yall are saints
I love Makayla's comment towards the end about how people need to stop focusing on the future and enjoy the present times. It's what you do NOW that will set you up for a better future. Don't wait for the future to come....start today
It was so good to meet mom a little bit more!!!!! Your sister The way she loves just brought me to tears. I don't have a great bond with my sister. And I always wished for it. So seeing your relationship with her just makes me so happy. The love between you all is just beyond beautiful. Thank you for letting us know more! It's so inspiring to listen and hear all the trials and tribulations y'all went through. Love you all !
You are right!! My grandmother used to say...take one step at a time. If you look at the big picture it will feel overwhelming, but if u just concentrate on what you are doing I the moment. Your daughter's sound like u mom!! Mini you...both of them. You have beautiful daughters.
Sisters are the best! I lost mine 10 years ago. And it was like losing a part of me. I am so thankful that you two have each other. It's the sweetest bond. It's something that you can't really get with any other person in the world. You both are strong beautiful inspirational. Thank you so much for having the courage to share your story. And letting the world witness the bond between the three of you. God bless you sweetie.
You guys are such a united family. And you guys look so much alike. But wow! I had to rewind the video a little, your mom looks so young. I thought at first that she was like your older sister or something. You and your sister have your mom’s genes! You are so blessed!
Makayla is extremely lucky to have two strong women in her life to help take care of her 24 seven. But I have a question in that what happens when Mariah starts to date and finds her future husband will you hire a caregiver to help out with Makayla
You ladies are 100 percent AMAZING! I really value your dynamic and great attitudes that all of you have for life in general. You have really inspired me in my life to be a more positive and accepting person when things can not be changed. Makayla you have the best outlook on everything that i see going on around you. All 3 of you do really and i couldn't imagine anyone speaking a bad word about anyone of ya'll. I think I could write all day about the respect i have for you, but lt's time to get my butt in gear. Thank you so much for your sharing ur experiences. Stay beautiful inside and out!
I agree with what your mom says at the 30:35 mark. I have a rare genetic condition that causes issues with pretty much everything in my body and is degenerative. If I look long term, I get overwhelmed so I just take life each day, I don't let myself worry about the statistics about my conditions. From age 19-28, I was unable to eat food, and was kept alive with intravenous nutrition infusions called TPN through a picc line and I'd constantly have people say things like "You are so strong I don't know how you do it, how are you always so happy and laughing" and it honestly, it was sweet of them but it could get frustrating because it's impossible to explain to healthy people, that when you are faced with going through life in a body that is sick or not working the way it's supposed to, you just keep going. You cant let it win, cant let yourself just curl into a ball and never get up, I have never seen myself as "strong" for continuing to be who I am lol I'm just me and I feel like being miserable and obsessing on all the bad things would just make life even harder than it already is. I remember being in the ICU and I was so bored lol I kept begging the doctors to let me go on a "walk"(in a wheelchair, with my IV pump attached, with my Mom) and the doctor being like "I've worked in the ICU for 15 years, I've never had a patient in your condition beg to get out of bed, you aren't supposed to leave your room. I'm going to let your mom take you for a quick spin, you have to promise to be back in 20 minutes and leave you and your mom's cell phone number on the wipe board but I just want to let you know how weird this is"😂 Having a positive outlook, being able to have a sense of humor about it all, is absolutely the best way to handle things but remember that its okay to have days where you arent okay too
So sorry you have to deal with that. You are stronger than you think if you dont think you're strong, lol. Mind me asking the name of the disease? Just curious.
Thank you ladies! You three are amazing people with great and positive attitudes. You are very inspiring and we can all learn from your journey. It’s hard to believe it’s only been 6 months, you’ve come so far!!!
Talking and eating and having a mother and a sister like these two. Gold. Still hard still challenging still so much work to do but you are getting so much stronger. And you will get your independence and life back. Brave soldiers all of 3 . Like the musketeers xxxx
I honestly want to say, “Praise God for bringing this video to me at this very moment, as He knew that I needed this.” When I was in high school, I would have frequent episodes of depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts, due to worrying about my future so much. I would think much about my GPA, SAT score, the classes I was or would be taking, extracurricular activities, etc. Throughout my adolescence, I had the goal of getting into a prestigious college, pursue a prestigious major such as computer science and various areas of engineering, and eventually have a job with a six-figure salary. Whenever I had loads of homework, exams, and challenges in school, I would stress very easily; and whenever I would earn lower grades on exams and report cards, I would become depressed easily due to their potential of lowering my GPA and preventing me from getting into a good college. By the grace of God, I did not get into a good college, nor did I earn an exceptional GPA or a decent SAT score. I was more of an average student throughout high school. Now that I am 25 years old, thus a grown man, Makayla’s story has inspired me in many ways as well. I may be facing unemployment, financial circumstances, and many other trials in my life, but I know and trust that God is faithful to lead me into His will and provide everything I need in life to glorify Him. Philippians 4:6-7 and Matthew 6:33-34 are great Bible verses to meditate upon during times of hardship. God is good, all the time, and He is faithful to take care of even the birds and grass.
Hi John, what an amazing way to glorify God (by highlighting His word & will). God is indeed faithful and will be with us regardless of what life or the enemy throws at us. Keep praying and being encouraged in your faith; God loves this way of thinking! (Your light shines bright!) To anyone: to learn more about God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and faith: please read the Holy Bible kjv.
John, I've often asked myself WHY do people place so much emphasis on getting into a good college? The first they should strive for is to be a good person. Money & material things really don't matter that much in the grand scheme of things. I was much like you in high school & I went to community college instead, as my family needed me. I don't regret it any. It was God's will. Please don't beat yourself up-our lives work out as they are meant to. Remember John Lennon's famous words?: " Life is what happens, when we are busy making other plans." Very true indeed. I've been inspired greatly by Mikayla & her family too! God bless you!❤❤❤
You 3 are truly inspiring. Myriah is an angel. Praying for you guys every day and sending so much love. I’m in awe when I think about how God works. He really knew what He was doing when He created your beautiful family and His plans for all of you 💜💜💜💜💜
Its so easy to be perfect on social media, I'm trying to learn how to just live in the moment.....I thank God for putting Makayla's video in front of me.....You all are very loving caring people your strength shows through, keep up what your doing and my God bless you every day...
I see so much love in your little family. You all are so wonderful and I believe God has big things in store for you! Thank you for sharing your journey. It is very inspiring.
I just happen to see this post and surely brought back memories for me. My Brother broke his Neck in High School during Gym. He broke his Spin Cord and was a Paralyzed from waist down. He was 17. It was very difficult for our Family. He was 54 when he passed. I cannot begin to explain the technology that has come today since that tragic day. You are a Beautiful, Courageous young lady and I know in my heart you will do well. I will forever pray for you and your Amazing, Caring Family
thank you makayla! ...... iv been anxious about the future, living there. thank you for this reminder about being present, you never know the detours around the corner, his divinely planned detours.
Y’all’s relationship reminds me a lot of my family’s relationship. Such a blessing, to be so close, and understanding of each other, lifting each other up, and the unconditional Love. Thank you for keeping things grounded, and real. I have no doubt, that you all will reach your goals, and continue to inspire others, along the way! ❤️❤️❤️
This is absolutely perfect. I love your family and I am beyond blessed to hear your story. I love watching your positivity outlook on life. Your sisterly bond is beautiful.
You guys are truly a beautiful family and had me crying ! This is so heartwarming I hope you guys always stay super close this is so touching I wish u guys the best and I hope mikayla heals tremendously miracles happen everyday and she deserves it 💙💙
Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us! My husband is a FF/Medic and he always says, "If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans!" I love the bond that the three of you share! I have two adult daughters and I feel so blessed to have them in my life. I am still raising my 16 year old baby boy of the family. He is full throttle every day riding his skateboard around town. Between my son living life in the fast lane and my husband working EMS/fire it is a wonder I sleep at night. Please keep sharing with us! May God bless you three with many more awesome years being close.
Y'all are just awesome! I wish I lived closer (I am nowhere near). I'm an RN and I'd love to be a relief hitter for Mariah/mom on days they need a hand. All three of you are very special and I wish you the best!
@Tiffany yeah, what makes me a creep?? I am probably around the same age as Makayla's mom and I have three kids myself around the same ages! And I'm a nurse who totally understands caregiver fatigue! Good heavens, I was just trying to be nice. A creep I am not. :(
I love the relationship the three you you have. I take care of my mom who has dimentia. I have a great support system within my family and I know that no one would take as good of care as w do and love her the way we do. Mariah, your love form Makayla shows with your actions on a daily basis and how selfless you are. God will continue to bless your family.
Perfection is a very good point. I was dubbed Miss Perfect in high school. Not as a snobby thing, it’s just something that my close friends used to say. But now in my 40’s I’m not that same person and a lot of the same physical qualities I had are long gone. So my perfection is gone and it’s a hard lesson to accept that you can no longer meet the standard you set in the past. I feel like I’m not meeting the expected standards I was held to in the past. Other attributes that are not necessarily physical now take centre stage. But it was difficult to overcome and it’s still a work in progress.
Your family is so strong!!! Love how real and honest all of you are!!! Thank-You for increasing awareness of how positive you are even during daily challenges!!!🤟❤️🥰
Mak! why don't you train as a Life Coach specializing in Resilience and or Counsellor and earn your living this way? you would get a ton if customers I reckon!
Thank you for being a bright light. Thank you so much for doing this Q+A. My mom and I are going through my dad's SCI injury. We are 4 months behind your process and this is helping me and my mom so much. Thank you and I'm so grateful for you three.
Lived 18 years with my mom after her SCI. It’s a hard time and I’m so sorry you’re also going through it. The hardest thing for me was watching my mom suffer from nerve pain for years. She’s been gone for a long time now and I miss her every day. It’s a hard, hard life, but if your dad approaches it with the same attitude as Makayla, he will realize he can still have a good life.
@@GreatestOfThese I am praying that he will have her spirit. But he is older and stuck in his ways and its hard. I'm sorry you lost your mom. I can't imagine, Im grateful that my dad is still here. We almost lost him twice during these past 2 months. Thank you for sharing your story.
Love seeing your amazing progress Makayla, but mostly your incredible spirit & courage which are SO inspirational to others. As a cheer parent of a Woodlands,TX & UT cheerleader I know how hard you’ve worked at an elite level to be the athlete you are and how every cheerleader and gymnastics competitor takes on risks such as you had to face before your injury. Stay strong, know that you are constantly being uplifted by thousands of prayers and we know you will be walking across the Prosper HS graduation stage to personally accept your diploma.
Your positive attitude is amazing, you are a special young lady. I am impressed with the interaction between your sister & your mom. What a lovely family. You are all very lucky to be so close.
Ladies, you all are sooo inspiring 🤗Makayla, yes, attitude is great!! You're an inspiration to someone else who is going through or will go through. May the Lord continue blessing your family 🙏🙏🤗🤗
I'm so glad you guys had a New post up! I check it all the time because I don't wanna miss it! I'm in a wheelchair, for 5 years now. I did not have the beautiful attitude you have.and because of that I wasted so much time purposely NOT trying to find my blessings everyday. Best quote ever to take from this post is LIVE IN THE MOMENT! You gals are rockin' it out! God bless you all.
You are taking this so well but are you really taking this so well. Are you just putting on a happy face to protect your family. You're number one and if you feel like you're not as strong as you thought or as strong as your family thought please let that out. You are amazing so so amazing. It blows my mind how strong you are. But even the strongest people need to scream sometimes and need to lean on somebody sometimes. For your age I just can't imagine and you are going to go far in this world because of how wonderful you are
Makayla you are so mature for your age & a ray of sunshine!🌞 I love that you ladies lift each other up…. I have been watching your vlogs & journey. You send a huge positive message to the world to keep pushing forward no matter what life brings you. Thank you for your smile & spirit…. 🦋🦄💜🎀🌈
I hope you see my comment. The easiest and fastest way to put on compression stockings it to wear simple garden gloves. I have been a nurse for 35 years. They have been a God send. I know need them myself because of cancer and radiation and they absolutely slip on. Hope this helps your wonderful mom and family. I pray for you. You are so inspiring. God bless you 🤗
I haven't seen you for a while, Makayla. I am so happy that you can move your arms so much!! I am so happy for you. I am so happy that you are such a close knit family!
All three of you are absolutely amazing and adorable! Your relationships are just beautiful, and I cannot imagine a more perfect trio to get through these challenges. My daughter will be a Freshman at PHS next year, and I know we both look forward to seeing Makayla's beautiful spirit and smile around school. Keep up the amazing job, and know that you are impacting so many others lives in an incredible way. So much love to all of you
I want to take time to thank your mother for being such a special woman. It’s not easy, but she is so strong thank you for being such a great person and your sister to is so beautiful and so loving I wish you guys the best never surrender.
WoW, those precious kids Loved having you visit them! And, so many have their paintings to you! You r such an inspiration to others! You are changing in people's lives! Not sure what you will be studying in college, but I hope you consider being a teacher.
May God always keep you this amazing relationship with your mom and sister for you. Your mom is amazing I don't know many moms who try to be this supportive, positive , and protective in the same time. I love your videos and wish you all three many happy days to come!
Myriah saying “I was ABLE to be in the ICU with Makayla,” vs. saying “I HAD to be in the ICU with Makayla” speaks volumes.
Meaning?🤔

I’ve never noticed until this video just how similar makayla and myriah are. You’re all so lucky to have each other 💖
Thank you so much for that eye-opening comment about not worrying about the future and living in the moment. Already it has been a huge help to me. You are such an inspiration! ❤️❤️❤️
Myriah is an Angel: beautiful, gorgeous, loving, lovely & so
mature for her age.
All due respect to you all ❤❤
You girls are so sweet loving and beautiful!
Makayla you are a ray of ☀️. And you get your sense of humor from your mama…how sweet. You always put a smile on my face. Lovely family. ♥️♥️♥️
Your advice to take one moment at a time reaches the heart coz you know what you are talking about. You girls are really blessed to have this close relationship with each other. Thank you for sharing your journey so openly, it can help many to go through difficult times 💓💓💓💓
Sweet young girl. Praying for her complete healing recovery.
Strong and loving family. You ladies are lucky to have each other.
The three of you inspire me. Thank you for sharing your story.
I am blown away by Makayla's strength and positive attitude. AMAZING!!!!
Thank you so much for the laughs.
Just to watch you guys bounce off each other.
I'm so humbled to come across your channel.
Keep smiling it's contagious.
Cheers Daz
All the ladies in this family are absolutely beautiful!
I'm blown away by your sister. Everyone should have a sister like Mariah 💜
You're three ladies I admire and the way you take care of your sister Mariah has all my respect🤗
Amazing family! You ladies are such down to earth genuine people and ur love radiates for one another! ☺️☺️☺️
I really wish I had a mother like yours. You're so lucky to have her .
True...her mother is a gem
Wow, what a beautiful family. Your love for each other is precious and rare. So BLESSED!
Its important that she said she was going to be fine from the beginning, that confession was powerful. She will surely be fine
I feel like im speaking for thousands when I say that we love you girls. love the videos so much.
Makayla is extremely lucky to have two strong women in her life to help take care of her 24 seven. But I have a question in that what happens when
Mariah starts to date and finds her future husband will you hire a caregiver to help out with Makayla
Yeah, who will take care of you when ur sister getsmarried?? Maybe she will end up having u move in with her....that would be great for both of you
@@soccerkerrydan I think that when the time comes they will figure things out
You ladies are 100 percent AMAZING!
I'm going to let your mom take you for a quick spin, you have to promise to be back in 20 minutes and leave you and your mom's cell phone number on the wipe board but I just want to let you know how weird this is"😂
Having a positive outlook, being able to have a sense of humor about it all, is absolutely the best way to handle things but remember that its okay to have days where you arent okay too
So sorry you have to deal with that.
I honestly want to say, “Praise God for bringing this video to me at this very moment, as He knew that I needed this.”
When I was in high school, I would have frequent episodes of depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts, due to worrying about my future so much.
Remember, don't be afraid to ask others for help as well. No one on this Earth can make it alone. We all need each other to survive.
Hi John, what an amazing way to glorify God (by highlighting His word & will). God is indeed faithful and will be with us regardless of what life or the enemy throws at us.
Keep praying and being encouraged in your faith; God loves this way of thinking! (Your light shines bright!)
To anyone: to learn more about God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and faith: please read the Holy Bible kjv.
God bless you!❤❤❤
@@99WcingPro John, you're very welcome. Yes, I understand. Take care & best of luck to you! 😊😄😁
thank you! incredible testimony from all of you. Makayla so brave and full of optimism, Myriah selfless and kind, Mom was a warrior. Love you guys!
This is absolutely perfect. I love your family and I am beyond blessed to hear your story. I love watching your positivity outlook on life. Your sisterly bond is beautiful.
I just love this whole family through it all they have the most joyous happy spirit we can all learn from them ❤
Thank you for the honesty. Y'all are so beautiful...inside and out!!
The 3 of you are such an inspiration of strength and love. Such compassion and commitment to each other...God bless you..
You three are such a strong team. What a beautiful example you are of strength and resilience.
I see so much potential in this young girl! She WILL walk again! Blessings to her & her family 🙏🏾
Y'all are just awesome! I wish I lived closer (I am nowhere near). I'm an RN and I'd love to be a relief hitter for Mariah/mom on days they need a hand. All three of you are very special and I wish you the best!
CREEP
Myriah- not Mariah
@Tiffany yeah, what makes me a creep?? I am probably around the same age as Makayla's mom and I have three kids myself around the same ages! And I'm a nurse who totally understands caregiver fatigue! Good heavens, I was just trying to be nice. A creep I am not. :(
@@Just.D Ah! I misspelled her name. Sorry about that! No harm intended.
Your family dynamic is so admirable.
You ladies are inspirational. So positive. So warm and so Texan… lone star state for the win
The mom is so beautiful
Perfection is a very good point. I was dubbed Miss Perfect in high school. Not as a snobby thing, it’s just something that my close friends used to say. But now in my 40’s I’m not that same person and a lot of the same physical qualities I had are long gone. So my perfection is gone and it’s a hard lesson to accept that you can no longer meet the standard you set in the past. I feel like I’m not meeting the expected standards I was held to in the past. Other attributes that are not necessarily physical now take centre stage. But it was difficult to overcome and it’s still a work in progress.
I definitely wanna hang out with your mom 😂 she seems like the life of the party haha. Yall are so gorgeous!
I love the “rules are to be broken” rule! I raised my kids by that one too!
Thank you for this. You are a very wise young woman Makala. So lucky to have such a close relationship with your mom and sister. Very lovely family.
Your family is so strong!!! Love how real and honest all of you are!!! Thank-You for increasing awareness of how positive you are even during daily challenges!!!🤟❤️🥰
I love how you just come on here without a care in the world of what people think . I envy you ! Your an amazing soul and so inspiring ! ❤️❤️
You’re all very pretty.
I watched a few of your videos. You’re progressing incredibly well.
Mak! why don't you train as a Life Coach specializing in Resilience and or Counsellor and earn your living this way? you would get a ton if customers I reckon!
I literally love you all!! Three incredible, amazing, calm, courageous, wise woman! 💜
So blessed by the wisdom of "Life is never going to go your way." "God said, my way is better just trust me."
Awwww you 3!!! Mom is the funniest and loudest! xxx
You're so beautifully kind to each other...
For your age I just can't imagine and you are going to go far in this world because of how wonderful you are
She has been open about going through mental breakdowns and whatnot. It's ok to go back and forth.
God bless you 🤗
Sorry, wanted to add. The ones with grippers on the palm side. ❤
Your strength is unmatched. You inspire people. We will be your armor.
I haven't seen you for a while, Makayla. I am so happy that you can move your arms so much!! I am so happy for you. I am so happy that you are such a close knit family!
Youre family is so BEAUTIFUL❤️
Youre love is so rare ❤️
So incredibly open, honest and candid. thank you from a student nurse
Mikayla, you are incredible and such an inspiration to others! Your supportive, beautiful family is amazing to watch ❤️
May God always keep you this amazing relationship with your mom and sister for you. Your mom is amazing I don't know many moms who try to be this supportive, positive , and protective in the same time. I love your videos and wish you all three many happy days to come!
