BUSH JUMPING in the Grand Marquis with Paul & Matt!
Matt, from Matt's Off Road Recovery, brings Paul a Crown Victoria to add to his stash of demolition derby cars. They realize early on that the flat bed tow truck is too big to cross the creek, so they decided to drag the car with the TACO. There was NO STEERING in the car, so Matt just had to sit back and enjoy the ride!

Sometime in the early 2000's auto manufacturers were required to make wiring harness coverings more eco friendly, so they are now soy based making them more attractive meals for rodents and possibly dogs. The harness was just the salad before the squirrel main course.

I wouldn't be surprise if ANOTHER/unrelated wire had a small break in it. I was at my wits end with a mustang that wouldn't start, everything metered ok, took it to the dealer to have the engine harness replaced and when the tech grabbed the harness to start unplugging everything, it suddenly started working. One wire had a brittle break in it.

Enjoyable video again folks, thanks much. Used to work at a GM dealer and can attest that rodents shut down at least two pickups that I recall for weeks if not months.
The towing without steering reminded me of a couple brothers I knew when I was a kid in the '70's. They'd picked up another '57 Bel Aire that had no motor, transmission or interior. It did still have a drive shaft however....
They wired up the drive shaft with fence wire, put in a 5 gallon bucket to sit on and were steering with a wrench. Since it was only a few miles to town they towed it behind another car...
Somewhere close to town the wire let go, the drive shaft dropped down and dug into the hard top and of course the wrench was never found again!!!
Everyone was fine, just a little smarter after the fact.
Thanks again for sharing the bits of everyday life with us, it's somehow reassuring to see "normal" still going on. Stay well.

That reminds me of the stories about a certain nameless car model with weak ujoints, if by chance the front one broke the car would pole vault and end up with the drive shaft thru the floor and possibly the roof. You didn't want to be a passenger when that happened.

Wait a minute Paul. I remember when I was 5 years old. My grandfather drove Fords he would say he would leave all those other cars Chevrolet Dodgers Plymouth. Were their tongues hanging out on the highway. And I've driven Fords I've driven GM cars and they left me on the side of the road. And I still drive Fords I never let me down. I just upgraded. Oh these weren't new ones. I have a 99 Expedition Eddie Bauers Edition still running had a 68 Ford Bronco 45 years ten-run 15 years. For the battery and gas in it drain the oil started right up. Course like a dumbass I sold it. I wasn't working anymore disability couldn't afford to fix it well I just figured makes you adjustments left the yard three out of the four tires they were over 30 years old were still aired up 15x 7. 33 Armstrong Tru Trac. Now I'm driving to 43 Lincoln Aviator. And this thing holds. And I think Lincoln is made by Ford Econoline. 😊🤙🏽👌🏽👍🏽✌🏽👏🏾🙏🏽🙋🏽‍♂️. I was born in the early fifties real early. But God help anyone else 😂 anyway he chewed up the wires in my dad's truck too. But that wasn't the last straw, that was when he chewed the leg off of my dad's coffee table. My dad came down and set his coffee on the table and it was just enough to cause it to tip over slowly. It was like slow motion and the look on his face was priceless and I just knew that poor guy was going back to the farm 🤣

There were a few prompted memories from this video.
The field full of cars like that once used to be called a paddock full of breeders in that they have multiplied over time. As for the dog pulling the wiring out, there was an old prospector in Marble Bar way back when the doctors first started doing hip replacements. I think it was around about 1978. He was old enough for the pension and he looked about done in with stiff jointedness. He had an old small 4WD with the pipe doors.
The next time I saw him after about a year, he was getting about all agile, loaded a drum of fuel on the back of his vehicle then jumped to down off the ramp. His hip joints had been replaced. I cringed at the imagining of bones splitting and shattering out the sides of his thigh muscles but no worries. He had returned to going over his old shows winning more gold. The new generations of metal detectors had also evolved and quite a few of the folk were finding new gold on old grounds with them.
On a journey out from town, a kangaroo jumped off of the windrow on the side of a dirt road and ended up in the cab with him. It was turned over, thrashing and kicking trying to get out. He stopped and bailed. A kangaroo toe will gutz you out fair onto the ground if it gets a good kick into you. By the time he could hunt the roo overboard it had booted all the wiring out from under the dash. It stranded him for three days before he finally got the car going well enough to take him to town to get it fixed. - So the story goes.

    • @DARANGULAFILM

@@FabRats You would love touring around our Pilbara and Kimberley Regions of Western Australia.
The inland Canning Stock route from north to south from Halls Creek to Wiluna is a major undertaking for 4WD enthusiasts, not for the fainthearted but doable with preparation and several vehicles travelling together.
The Pilbara is superficially similar-looking country to Utah, with rainfalls between 8"and 12" per year average. Irregualar cyclones ( hurricanes ) can dump a year's rainfall in one day and flood the roads.
If you can find it as a rental movie, look for "Red Dog True Blue" which was filmed in the West Pilbara where the country is lower.
Much of the Pilbara Region landform is comprised of what the geologists call the Pilbara Craton.
Along with a small patch in Canada and the Yilgarn Craton further south in Western Australia, it is one of the oldest places on earth that has not been churned underground and spat up again by earth movements.
By craton, think of croutons or bread cubes in pea with ham soup. The skin on the soup is the earth's crust which crinkles and crumples against the cratons.
They are apparently huge rock luimps which floated deeper in the earth's melted layer and didn't get turned over or shoved under. they have been worn down by time.
Rich alluvial precious mineral deposits have been found as well as reef deposits where country on the edges of the craton has been crunched and turned on edge.
Compared to your mountains and snowfields, the Pilbara is lower and hotter. Much longer journeys between populated centres than you experience over there may be boring.
Some of us wrinklies used to measure our distances travelled by how many music tape cassettes we listened to on a long trip.
There is more iron-red and less light limestone colour in the ground. There is a bit of similar lighter coloured but less mountainous country than yours near the turnoff to Shark Bay furthur south.
Sadly the taller mesaform hills in the Pilbara are being stripped of their flat capstone because that is where the iron ore is .That's where your steel Toyotas and Nissans come from.
If you can muster the cash to make the trip, it would be an enjoyable adventure. The way things are with COVID and collapse of airtravel, the TransPacific journey may well become unaffordable but who knows what the future holds

The reason is when someone will be driving down the road they might hit a rabbit or another kind of animal and it will get the blood and or the smell of the animal up on the car. And then the dog or wild coyote or whatever will try to get that animal. They don't realize it's not there they just have the smell and taste to go by.

I had the lower linkage fall off the bottom of the steering column ( dodgy work by previous owner ) of a car I had only just purchased a few days before. Was only going less than 30, possibly as little as 20plus mph , but not long before that had been sitting at well over 100. I was lucky , something did not feel right, steering was a little mushy for a couple of seconds before it went completely. All I had was a 4inch crescent and no light in complete dark to sort it out. 25 years on, now I have a cell phone and could get help, back then, I found and fixed the problem by touch
      Not a good memory

David P glad you got out alright! I busted the rims on the passenger side (big crack on both) and for some reason the tires kept their air. I drove home with it though. Very slow and wobbly albeit. A funny and a bummer of a memory for me. Learned a lot there.

Hey Paul !! Even if the ""FORD"" dealer was to run the ""VIN # "" ,, Don't think they would find the correct wiring harness !! Just like Matt & Travor will find when try to put the wiring back in the ""BANANA "" !!! Lots of Luck on those issues !!! Have a ""COOLL"" week & ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!!!

Alton, Nova Scotia, Canada (East Coast) LOL. Just outside Stewiacke, NS, which is halfway between the North Pole and the equator 😊 on the 45th parallel.

Paul should keep his comments about Ford and other auto makers on the editing floor. Nobody wants to hear that crap. I grew up a GM fan boy because of my dad. I have a 2015 F150 5.0L w/ 120K miles and the only thing I've had to do besides normal maintenance is front brake pads and a water pump. The water pump wasn't even leaking. It was making a horrendous noise because the rear bearing/bushing was shot. I'm 65 and have had my share of auto's from BMW, Honda, GM, Jeep, Dodge and Ford..... This F150 is the absolute best vehicle I've owned. I will NEVER again own anything from Fiat/Chrysler, Dodge, whoever they call themselves these days. The last 2 GM trucks I had were absolute garbage. I'll continue to watch but you lost my subscription by going low......

Fords run strong. Sorry to break it to you. But Chevys are like a rock. They break. But then that's who you roll. You love fabricating new things to keep a chevy Aka GMC running. Ford would put you out of work. :D .Great video.

Toyota is having a huge problem with this too--- they decided to wrap their wires with "environmentally friendly" coatings that are "organic"--- basically FOOD!-- and now rats are eating up all the wires in these new trucks. I wouldn't be surprised if they get a class action lawsuit.

Get some stuff called Bitter Apple. It is a pump bottle, spray it all over the wires and other components. It deters most (not all) rats, mice etc from chewing the expensive and vital wire harness.

If you research it you will see it's a common problem with certain model Ford's and Honda's they made the wire coating out of a Soy Based product so the rodents and squirrels are eating them. There should be a recall.
