I’ve been thinking about trying this process on other used Chryslers for flipping purposes after finishing up my car, but with a personal project theres always more to do. I don't think individual flippers move the market in any way, think of it like this, who are the biggest flippers, new car dealers and used car dealers are nothing more than flippers, but on a huge scale. The price of used cars always moves in direct proportion to the cost of new cars, when new car became too high the used car prices went up to a higher price due to demand rose, many, if not most new car dealers make more money off used car sales than new cars, that's why you see so many dealerships advertising that they buy used cars, individual flippers are at the mercy of bigger trends in the car economy, they aren't setting the trends.
How do you go about the title? Do you still sign and register it to yourself and then receive a new title with your name on it to then be able to sell it? Or can you simply use the title from the original seller and not register it to yourself and have the next person you sell it to worry about registering it?
You can sell 5 cars a year unless you spend 50k or more for a dealers license. Am I wrong? Not sure myself but I remember looking it up several years ago when I was thinking about flipping cars. I’m in a state heavily regulated by big brother
Periodic car flipper here! 2 tips 4u: 1. I pay myself hrly rate b4 profit! 2. I'd try public auctions 4 cheap cars. Your time prepping car is part of vehicle recon. No reason to ad it to your profit! Because you spent about 19 hrs of labor $25/hr is fair. That's $475 Minutes $4112 ($4112-475=$3637) $3637 is your actual profit! Which is still awesome👌

You may have been able to get that passenger side fender dent out with a paintless dent pulling kit and mallet, harbor freight has one for $130. I've been using it for a couple days now and the results are very surprising. I would also recommend watching a couple how-to videos
Very true, PDR is also a good side hustle itself, low cost for entry, minivan is big enough to carry all the tools needed and lots of dents out in the urban jungle.
How did you drive the car home after purchasing? You cannot drive without registration and insurance. You skipped the insurance, purchase tax, and registration cost. Not to mention a lot of states in US only allow a few cars to be sold by regular people with retail dealer's license.
How do you handle the title? The seller signed it over to you. Do you just keep the name blank? Otherwise you have to account for title cost and tags and tax.
Polishing your car was not free. If you're serious about it, it can be a couple hundred dollars investment for the equipment, and you will definitely use materials like compound and polish in the process. Yes it's a high cost of entry and relatively low cost to keep but it is still there.
Your correct. Compound was likely 5$. Polisher around 200$. But there’s ones for cheaper if cannot afford. Hard to price in tools but will mention it next time :)
@@luckysevenmac I personally spent around $700 original investment for my show car when I got into detailing, but that allowed me to mint out my new 2008 beater for around $40-50 in materials. I did notice later on you mentioned money for materials but it might be worth mentioning initial investment cost compared to payout over x amount of vehicles, especially for different services.
There were lots of questionable things said, but the loose jack absolutely couldn't cause a wobble so that's were I checked out. And it's wrong to lie about how much it'll cost to fix stuff just to score a deal. I flip cars honestly despite knowing I could make more by lying.
@@luckysevenmac You say that everything is accurate, yet your next sentence clearly describes your inaccuracy. And you did lie by telling the seller that the repairs would be much more expensive than they were. To sell the car legally you'd have more time and money invested than what you showed.
Can definitely appreciate the hustle. Couple of things to keep in mind... 1.) If you're having a shop perform repair work - especially an established business, many many many shops will frown upon or straight up not allow outside parts. They make money on them selling to you. And they also warranty the part as well. If an expensive, difficult job, uses a part you provided, and it fails, guess who's on the hook for the part, as well as the labor for the part again? There's definitely places to save/cut corners - this isn't the place. If the shop is willing to entertain outside parts, make sure you have the rapport with the shop that you'll eat the cost if it's a re-do. 2) Don't forget that sellers have the internet too. And phones to look up stuff. If you have things priced out in mind, yea you're not pressuring them into a sale, but you also want to sleep at night. You never know what the future may hold if they liked dealing with you personally, they may contact you again in the future with their next car to sell- especially if you have the rapport built up. Or if they feel you are a great buyer/reseller of cars, they'll suggest you to their friends. lol @ the oil bath.
I found the part at an auto store nearby, I let them know and they ordered it. So I didn’t bring it to them, also it had a warranty from auto shop. But definitely agree. And yes it’s great to be kind and you can potentially get more business from them, but also as a flipper you have to get a deal to make money. Oil bath!!
@@luckysevenmac cool. They used their account to buy it - sorry I misunderstood from the video how that played out. Definitely- gotta play to make it ahead. Bigger gambles with low buy in can put you ahead.
As a retired mechanic and owner of a shop for a couple of years I've seen this scenario hundreds of times and the standard operating procedure was to say sure BUT, the labor isn't warranted and it's full cost, not discounted, the shops that will not put owner supplied parts on usually have excessive mark-up on their parts and probably not a lot of customers so they rely on the mark up.
I subscribed.... and will stay subbed only if you DO NOT put your dang face into the oil again... Also, I once literally told someone I "jacked off the car" rather than "jacked up" I died a little inside.
Two things: 1 - ALWAYS count your labor costs. Be sure to use a realistic hourly rate for someone you'd be willing to pay to do the services you performed. Why? So that when you grow, you're already factoring in the cost of that (future) employee; and for reason 2 below. 2 - Your profit numbers are not as accurate without the cost of labor and tools/materials. Perhaps on a "per flip basis" the cost of tools/materials is too volatile, but on an annual or quarterly basis you can come up with a decent average. I understand this is NOT an business accounting video. However, I mention this so that you can take the business aspect of what you do to the next level. By "tools/materials" I mean needing to buy that vaccum cleaner you mentioned, or detailing brushes, etc. I don't mean what you already mentioned, like the air filters, oil, etc.
I agree, but for average viewer it would be hourly profit by how I calculated it. Tools/materials are priced in with the misc category, and hard to exactly calculate. Whenever I buy a tool I just add it to the cost of fixing the car.
Have flipped a lot of cars myself. When i sell them and someone wants to haggle my price over the phone or text, I tell them that they can haggle a price that way, but don't show up wanting any more off. Thats it if you want to negotiate sight unseen. I have sent people packing who show up and try the second round of negotiating. I usually convince them to stand in front of it before offering any money, and it helps us both out.
Yeah it makes sense. If I offer online I let them know I will buy as long as it is as described. But sometimes I will show up and it has more problems so I offer less to reflect that. But in person only is much better for sure
I've flipped cars since the 70's, before texts, emails and stay away from any numbers over the phone, never put "obo" in an ad and often say price is firm, when asked over the phone or in person how much I'll go down in price I'll either say none or maybe a little bit not much cause I'm not hurting for money. Also I cut the low ballers at the knees immediately, I didn't spend my money and time for someone else to make a profit, I often told them my bottom dollar was the starting point and only negotiated up from there. Now I must say that I flipped cars as a side hustle while working full time so it was easy to be a hardass when selling.
I understand, next videos will be full flips and will show the sale price. But i can bet it would sell for that as I keep up on the market for these cars. Just wanted this car to put my tools in.
Ah. Classic mistake when doing an oil change in the driveway. I know a lot of people who made the same mistake. People tend to underestimate how far the oil can shoot out. Even mechanics.
I HIGHLY recommend not doing a 2 step polish on a car you are flipping. A good one step polish and sealant is just about as good and saves TONS of time. 3D makes some great products and makes one of the most popular one step, called Speed Car Polish and Wax. It's not cheap but you can do several cars with one bottle easily. Sonax and Rupes also make great one step polishes.
Yeah, I usually go overboard or don’t do it at all. My old detailing job made me want everything to be perfect. But you’re right as most people don’t care for it.
@@luckysevenmac Ya I saw later in the video where you mentioned your detail experience so I knew then you knew about those. But no way in the world I would be putting the time into a 2 step on a flip. One step is enough work already. I doubt anyone buying a Dodge Caravan would have a clue about the difference.

@@NickMyers1 yeah! definitely
I’m thinking about doing it again, we’ll see. Haha

Yeww!!
Two things:
1 - ALWAYS count your labor costs.
Whenever I buy a tool I just add it to the cost of fixing the car.
never let your wife sell your car lmfao😭😭
Lmao, was a funny interaction
wooh i sub. love this kind of video
Thanks for subbing!
Epic!
Yessir!
Never have I ever laughed during a car restoration video

All for content haha. Thanks!
Talking about a theoretical sale price is pretty lame. You kept the car, so you can only speculate on how much it would have sold for.
I understand, next videos will be full flips and will show the sale price. But i can bet it would sell for that as I keep up on the market for these cars. Just wanted this car to put my tools in.
Temu version of buddy’s diy. Jk bro. Awesome video
Lmao thanks
The edits are odd because on several occasions I saw a bad seat when it had already been replaced.
My bad! Some things were done in slightly different order than in video or I just used a clip somewhere else.

@@luckysevenmac yeah that makes sense gotta love the state that hates it’s citizens
Really you didn"t need to do all that to an old van. but I dig it any way.
Thanks!
Ah. Classic mistake when doing an oil change in the driveway. I know a lot of people who made the same mistake. People tend to underestimate how far the oil can shoot out. Even mechanics.
lol, I’ve definitely missed the drain pan before. This time I tried to use my face as one.
Should have changed the plastic oil fill tube with a metal doorman.

@@John-ke2jmyeah for sure. It was a short 2 step, but you convinced me. 1 quick step from now on!
@@luckysevenmac You also have to consider the 1 step has a sealant in it too. So you are saving 2 steps.
