Damn... this is the greatest DCS video I have ever seen. We cannot wait for Apache. The virtual Stingers are becoming an Apache squadron and we are incredibly amped for this module.
This looks so satisfying. I’ve seen a ton of videos of the M230, both on the Apache as well as on land vehicles. Ton of footage from combat areas as well. Judging from that, this looks super realistic. The question has been asked before, but I’d also like to know how the splash damage will be handled. It seems like an important update is needed to DCS as the 30mm explosive rounds are super ineffective in DCS’s current state. I would also love to see an overhaul to infantry as the Apache is dealing with infantry quite a lot and their current behavior, animations and 3D models are very outdated. But I think you mentioned an overhaul to the transportation system somewhere in the Mi-24 video’s. Hopefully this is part of that overhaul. Don’t take this as criticism, but rather constructive suggestions. I love the sim and love where it’s going. ❤️❤️❤️ 😄
It was stated in an interview with ED recently that there's work going on currently on infantry animations. Something about paratroopers at the moment? I have a feeling stuff like this is all getting updated in anticipation of the dynamic campaign, which will absolutely need proper infantry animations/logic.
That is why I am still playing Gunship! because it has far better default logic for ground units. Every IFV and APC carries infantry, and when they get engaged they will seek cover (unlike in DCS, they by default scatter few seconds time and stay still next 600 seconds) and then unmount infantry to seek cover and protect the squad (unlike in DCS, nothing). When you surprise then at closer range, they will attack at you, drive closer around tree covers and unmount infantry to support the squad. There is a two manpads on each vehicle, and they have proper preparation and aiming times and skills. Then vehicles will provide suppressive fire even up to few kilometers because they know that single hit will likely damage your helicopter so you are in very danger getting shot down. There isn't any simple detection and engagement rings (like in DCS) but it is dynamic as they know when to shoot a hovering helicopter or flying. They as well nicely exchange targets depending the threat. Best thing is that the AWS is really like in real videos, inaccurate on the move and you need to take big lead to hit intended target area. In this video the weapon looks to be too accurate and yet got on crosshair even at 700 meters. That weapon was confirmed to only hit 1 of 50 rounds in 10x10 meter area from a 1000 meters 86% change. At 2000 meters it was 75% of shells inside a 50 x 50 meters box. apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADA299307.pdf Add a movement and you need to start leading to the target a lot. That is why maximum effective firing range is 1200 meters and typical ones are under 1000 meters as you don't even hit a truck at those ranges without longer bursts to that general area. The common range is 700-900 meters to hit that 10 x 10 meters area. Hence "Area Weapon System". Then there is a KA-50 that has sniping capability to hit a oil barrel size target at 2000 meters and APC size from 3500 meters. Totally another level accuracy, muzzle velocity and penetration and of course explosive shell. But it is amazing experience when you see someone running out with RPG and you just look at it and shoot, and Apache will likely hit it at
Get some! Great work on the guns hydraulic actuator, rotation smoothness, gun wobble, and feed system. As well as getting the spring loaded return to center mechanism in there. It looks and sounds amazing!

Even though I love the Apache, I had no plans to grab this module as I already have more than I can learn - but with this level of detail, it would feel criminal to *not* get it!
Yes the basic sound of the gun firing is pretty satisfying. But it is ruined for me as the sound starts and stops very abruptly and there are really no other dynamics to the sound. It is like the exact same sample plays every time you start firing and is cut short whenever you stop firing, and really nothing else is done to the sound. That may sound fine, but it is not. And I don't know if you would be able to hear it, but there were no sounds of the turret actuating and other small sounds that you would probably only be able to hear when you are really close up. At the begining it says that the sounds are a work in progress so I can't complain and I hope and expected that it will be improved a ton.
From the gun cam footage I've watched of Apaches in Afghanistan, I'll say that the 30mm sounds pretty damn accurate! Can't wait to get my hands on this module

I remember playing Falcon 3.0 when it came out and using the keyboard to fly the F16. I can't imagine doing that now. In some ways, starting the aircraft up is my favorite part because that is the part that really captures me into the game, the immersion is total.
Wow, that is very detailed and accurately modeled. I see that haven’t added the gun laser pointer on the side but I’d rather have this module sooner then they spend more time adding something that doesn’t add much to the game.

you can actually see the rounds feed into the gun as its fired, its that level of detail that separates DCS from other Sims

1-less smoke.
2- fragments.
3-fragments should be brighter.
