- U.S. Sailors fire 25mm rounds from the Mk 38 Mod 1 Automatic Machine Gun System during a live fire gunnery exercise.
The Mk 38 is the naval version of the M242 system. The Mk 38 consists of the M242 chain gun and the Mk 88 Mod 0 machine gun mount. It provides ships with defensive and offensive gunfire capability for the engagement of a variety of surface targets such as patrol boats, floating mines, and various shore-based targets. The standard rate of fire is up to 200 rounds per minute. The weapon has an effective range of 3,000 metres (9,800 ft), depending on the type of ammunition used.

That guy at 8:10 hits the railing on his own ship, the bullet could have ricocheted anywhere! His colleagues don't seem to take any notice.

Also the rail just being there is a massive liability if you actually are in combat. It literally is blocking the gun's ability to rotate.

Also horrible to put the barrel on any surface like that when shooting, it disrupts the vibrations of the barrel.

Lmao I noticed that too. Pretty damn obvious it was going to happen as well. The barrel was almost resting on the railing, the rounds barely clearing the bar.

In the 60’s I fired thousands of rounds from a 50, an M14, a recoilless rifle, an 81 mm mortar and a bunch of other army weapons. We never had any hearing protection. Today the ringing in my ears is driving me crazy!

I worked in the machine shop in crawfordsville Indiana, where these gun mounts were made.....built many of these

1. Bullet travel time. It takes a second or two for a bullet from your ship to the boat.
2. Ship wobble. You are in the sea, that means whatever you are on shuold be in some way affected by the waves, winds, etc.
3. The ship also moves. That means bullets have a small bit of velocity inherited from the ship.
4. Recoil. Do I have to explain here?
5. Gun weight. Do I also have to explain here?

Anything could penetrate a modern warship, really. They're meant to shoot down anything before it can hit it, instead of taking hits and still fighting like the ships of old.

Повтарялось это до тех пор ,пока экипаж не начинал творить чудеса меткости. Никогда я не видел в дивизии на стрельбах мазил....🤔🤔💣💣

This guy has the right idea: Semi-Auto fire. He watched the other guy firing full auto, and saw that spread and just went "nah, that just ain't gunna do it".
Really, this gun has so much kick that it needs to be fired semi-auto as long as you're firing at targets on the water (like small watercraft). Full auto should be reserved for suppression, and firing at aircraft.

This gun is also in a LAV 25. Except the LAV has a better targeting system using thermal sights and is accurate to 3000 meters.

The system can be really complex or really simple depending on how much human intervention is wanted.
If you want it completely automatic that will require a lot of work and ingenuity.
If you just want it to aim at the nearest object that takes a lot less work

Here's some facts that most people dont know.
1. The ship the gunner is on is moving in multiple directions all at the same time. Remember there on water.
2 the target is also moving in multiple directions all at the same time.
3 by the time the round leaves the barrel on its trajectory course to the target everything is already moved in unpredictable ways. Thats why the nave has always had to law down an extraordinary amount of fire power in close in battles.
4 in a battle drill simulation you must keep the deck free and clear of all debris. This is so all the support personnel can do there jobs to keep you supplied and or alive. This isnt a game. We aint green peace. We fight to win.

Is this the same gun that was mounted on the Apache AH-64 or was it only the Bushmaster M230 ?
In AH64 a cannon with a weakened shot. Only the KA-50 has a full-fledged tank gun. you can see the difference in guns if you look at the size of the KA-50 and AN64 cannon on helicopters of the same size.

Smoothly swing the barrel through the target and squeeze the trigger as you get in front of the target without stopping the speed and swing of the gun or else you will miss behind like i do when i stop the swing!
