Rode one of these for the first time at Santa Cruz a couple weeks back, and I have to say this immediately became one of my favorite flat rides. I love interactive flat rides like flying scooters, haven't done any of Gerstlauer's but there's something that just feels so odd that the way the main interactive element (also the brake) is entirely dependent on shifting your own body weight. I love the ability to point your car in one way and keep it there, this might be one of the only rides I've done where you can get a true blood rush feeling to your head. Didn't quite have the ability to keep it flipping, but man these things are just absolutely wild. Have found with this and Whips (specifically the Kennywood ones) that some of my favorite flat rides are vintage ones, there's just something about the odd minimal restraints, exposed ride mechanics and just straight fun that I love. Great to see these rides are still out there, have a ton of respect for the parks still maintaining them
Omg!!! Cool! Thanks for sharing! Dang, That’s a long ride! I remember they had one of those at Rye Playland back from the 60-early 80s. I saw it in late 70s when I was 6.😊
@CanobieCoaster That was fun. And if you just didn't want to be like a caged gerbil, you just didn't touch the ring bar on your cage and it became a fast Ferris Wheel!!!
How did you get the cage to flip wildly like that? I've tried rocking the seat back and forth on these and Zippers and I never got it to flip on my own. Ik on Rock O Planes you can lock the cage and flip by pulling that big ring but I'm wondering how to rock and flip the cage.

I love when I find one since I can get so many flips.
My absolute favorite flat ride ever. I will say, it is extremely painful, but i absolutely love that you can control the ride experience.
I had bruises from this, but it was worth it.
I plan on riding it later at the carnival it hurts?

I'm glad a few are still around.
The Rock-O-Plane at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has got to have been there for 50+ years. A total flat ride classic.
Absolute classic.
There was one at Geauga Lake Park in Aurora years ago. Lots of great rides on that, and lots of people puking.
I love flipping these non-stop.

Bros gonna need the Epley maneuver after this LOL
I had bruises after this.
The best workout!
Left my pelvis bruised!
Person: How many flips can you do on a Rock-o-Plane?
Canobie Coaster: Yes.
Pretty much!
Ok, looks pretty interesting. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's great if you work hard for your flips.

I had to throw my weight into it in rhythm.
does this thing have hangtime?
It can if you lock it upside-down.
I have yet to ride one of these, missed the one at Knoebels by a couple months.
I rode that one late last year and had a similar ride.
How do you get these things to flip?
Timing, force, and a willingness to get bruises on your thighs (had a bruise for a week after this).
What would you rate this ride?
Probably an 8.
How can you do that?
Throw your weight around (and time when you do it).
Wait is that a Zipper ride?
No. Zipper is a completely different ride.
No. Zipper is a completely different ride.
@@timothykaczmarek5871 And you are?
@@timothykaczmarek5871 of course Zipper is completely different ride
@user-pm2ki1zt4z Well, OBVIOUSLY the person in the original queue didn't KNOW that!!
