We were genuinely so blessed in the 2000’s. Imagine going from gta 3, which was revolutionary in its own way, to San Andreas in just three years? I think that’s why it has such staying power, and nostalgia. It was all the little things combining to create a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
@@marcowulliampopirers2216 That should change soon with AI revolution. But it belongs to the companies to try something new, innovate which nowadays rarely happends with AAA studios.
Imagine the level of detail that they could have achieved with this game, if they had less technical limitations in that time... The game was supposed to have things like accessible vehicle trunk just like in L.A Noire where you could actually store and take items and weapons.
They were limited by the PS2. They literally decided "whats on your mind? Let's add it to the game". the deadline did contribute to the limits, but this game would be even better if the PS2 had a bit more juice
If they had less limitations we'd wait more than 10 years for a new GTA instalment, just like we're doing now Thank God for the technical limitations, never again shall we see 3 gtas in a 4 year time span
Vadim: I guess I do not exist then. But seriously, this guy's content is also good, but Vadim has superior in-depth videos. This video is great, and I hope the UA-camr continues with thus kind of content.
Very interesting, thank you… everyone knows about the various gameplay or story fun facts but it’s very nice to see some technical explanation from behind the scenes for all the magic that happens in the game, especially for people like me who know nothing about video game design. Cheers ! Really hope we can get a part 2
@@MrGTAmodsgerman The version of Renderware the PS2 version uses doesn't support stencil shadows at all, probably because they're too heavy for the hardware. Stencil shadows are stored in COL files, and the PS2 version uses COL2, which doesn't support shadows. Xbox and PC support COL3 and COL4, which supports stencil shadows.
this video reinforces my belief that, for me, old classics dont need remastering. it replaces too much all the hard and dedicated work the original developers put in to give the game a specific feel to it. sometimes its almost impossible to improve on the original.
It blows my mind how they even managed to get GTA SA to run on the PS2. I know of course the game had to be downgraded for the console in terms of graphics and some other features but still: when you consider VC already had major problems with performance - I mean, the frame rate sometimes dropped to 15(!!) fps - then it's nothing short of a miracle the much more advanced SA was even playable on the weakest hardware of its console gen.
thats why I love gta sa, It's simple but it's complex in the smalest things. And also has a great mod community with plenty of vanilla friendly mods that improve the game even further
Currently busy with another San Andreas play-through.....my first since play-through since 2009. This game is absolutely phenomenal and I doubt that Rockstar will ever be able to replicate it.
nice stuff! I often disliked how a lot of things in San Andreas looked too dark compared to the previous games, even playing on the same PC. But these improvements are really the right step for the game, no wonder they had to put LCS and VCS as a "stopgap" while this game was being made.
Great video, glad to hear someone talk about this, San Andreas is an insanely abitious game and the fact that they managed to run it on PS2 is incredible
Procedural rocks are notorious in the GTA:SA speedrun. On the route to Toreno's first missions in the desert, the speedrun route takes a boat and the optimal route is right through a cluster of RNG rocks. If you get bad spawns, it can cost the runner!
Gta san andreas PC version and original Xbox version both had advanced shadows but missed some other effects from the Ps2 version which can be restored using community made silent patch.
At the time they could just had aligned the models and set a part of the model to be replaced at a certain time of the day, instead of the whole model.
Nothing i didnt know already. but i love this game and been playing nearly every year for 20 years so no suprise there ^^. Still very much enjoyed this video!
Good vid, how did you manage to separate the DJ's voice from the music? I tried to do it in Audacity, negating the non-speaking intro from the DJ voice one, but it wasn't perfect, music was still present while the DJ speaks somehow.
You can't yet, the values are partially hard coded & and work that was done on a mod to change those values seems to have run into a partial roadblock last I heard (initially it was planned as a feature in the Proper Fixes mod, but the team cut it from the release it was supposed to be in due to stability issues). Perhaps we'll see it in the future, as of right now the only thing you can do is make sure in-game drawdistance is no higher than 8/16 bars so the fade-in effect for them doesn't break (and also not use any drawdistance settings in P2DFX).

Glad to have grown up around that time.

NFU2 burnout 3 gran turismo
Resident evil 4 and doom 3

The game still makes good use of dynamic building textures, stores roll down shutters at night and open back up at day
