      Makes you wonder how a person falls to their death ok that trail at all? You would have to roll to your death, which is highly unlikely, and if grace and her father were scared of the conditions, why were they separated? Why would he not be right next to her to assist f need be? Why is there no evidence of her fall actually ever happening? There’s never a moment in the summer when that trail isn’t full of people, there should be at very least picture and video evidence of the aftermath, medical assistance or recovery efforts.

      @@Romoto131 Keep in mind there was a thunderstorm that unexpectedly rolled in that caused the tragedy. The rock becomes like ice in some places when it is wet. I imagine everyone was concentrating on keeping their footing and their cameras dry instead of filming anything. You also pretty much have to go single file going up and down the cables, so he could not have been right next to her.

      There would have been a whole scene AFTERWARDS regarding the recovery and interviews with witnesses etc. Why was there no word of this supposed accident until 6 days ago?

    • @neenee_marie77
      @neenee_marie77 2 місяці тому +20

      @Romoto131 Maybe for once, people had common decency to not pull out their phones and record such a tragic incident. Maybe instead of being a looky-loo hoping to get footage so they could go viral, they tried to help. Or comforted the father. I guarantee you it was slippery for everyone so maybe they focused on helping each other.
      Why are you questioning this accident? The cables are notoriously dangerous. Grace was not the first death and she won't be the last. People get injured on the cables every year. If you really need to satisfy your sick urge to see people struggling on the cables, look up footage of the rainstorm from around 6 months ago. So many injuries that day as people slid down the granite. The rock was literally covered in blood. It will at least show you how dangerous the cables are, since you think they are so easy and impossible to fall from.

    This is NOT a "technical climb," though it is advisable to treat it as one due to the number of people ascending it. Wear a swami belt, have two runners connected to it via locking carabiners. Keep one clipped to the cable in case you or others above you loose their footing. I have ascended it numerous times over the decade with not a hint of danger, but those were days when few tourists were on the trail.

    • @geometerfpv2804
      @geometerfpv2804 2 місяці тому +22

      @@chrishernandez273...are you seriously suggesting being clipped doesn't make it safer? Yes, it's a very easy climb for someone with basic climbing skills, but that doesn't change the fact that it's safer clipped. What if a 200lb guy slips above you and bowls into you? What is the weather changes while you were on the mountain? You can't control everything, there is always risk. You shouldn't discourage clipping, it would have saved Grace, and prevented a bunch of injury last time there was a storm. The ignorance here is on your part: this macho "it's not even hard" attitude is ironically frowned upon in the actual climbing community. Pride is how you get hurt. It is a life threatening hike no matter which way you cut it, risk needs to be managed in various ways.

    First and foremost; you have a right to kill yourself in a Wilderness/ outdoor activity doing risky activities; just don't kill other innocent people or damage the environment; every activity doesn't have to be as safe as it possibly could be.

    Why don't ppl rappel down on the outside of the cables?

    • @MOAB-UT
      @MOAB-UT 2 місяці тому

      There are spikes in the ground that you have to unclip for about every 20 feet. Everyone is inside the cables. There is a wood shelf you can rest on inside the cables. Traffic jam too. I used a harness and was fine.

      If people rappelled it would be a horrible traffic jam; and probably more accidents as rappelling accidents are a major part of climbing deaths.

      @@craigbritton1089 I had a harness when I did half dome. I did not repel. You calmly and safely clip and unclip one of your two tethers. One tether end from your Y cable stays on a cable at all times. When climbing up, about every 15 feet you have to clip one end of your Y to the upper section. The lower tail remains on the lower wire section until the upper one is secure. Same simple procedure going down only in reverse.
      I was far more confident so I moved literally about 2x's as fast as everyone else who was clinging to that cable for survival- same going up. I flew going up. Remember, someone above you could fall and take you off the hill.

    Looks totally idiotic to not be strapped on, surprised no one seems to use a harness here, what if you get tired.

      It seems like that tragedy has made Half Dome a popular search on UA-cam, which is probably making these videos pop up more, but this has been popular for many many years. This video was recorded in late September 2023.

      What do you mean? It’s always been a destination spot for climbers etc. The first man to climb it was in like the 1800s. This video was posted almost a year ago. More people are searching it, and so it’s in the algorithm and will show up.
