- There are great projects for small branches too! In this new woodturning video I am making a great idea for a woodturning project. This wood turning project is a really cool idea for home decoration or to sell at craft fairs or shows. This wood lathe project is a vase for sticking to Windows or mirrors pretty much any flat surface that is smooth.
You can also make these vases with a magnet to stick to metal like the fridge.
This is a very easy woodturning project for beginners.
I sanded it to 320 and finished it with friction polish.
I hope you enjoy/enjoyed this wood turning video.

Hi, another pesky question...what size drill bits do you use to drill the holes on your vases? Thanks again for all your videos!!
For the most part I use a 1/2 drill bit. You can go larger for bigger vases if you like. If I'm using a test tube insert for water then I drill a hole the size of the test tube.
You are always creative. How thick was the branch when you started?
Thank you Len!
It was a little shy of 2 inches.
A reasonable project that looks nice but why spoil it by dangerously drilling the hole whilst holding it. Would have been much safer doing whilst on the lathe before parting off.
That brings up a good point. If you see something that looks dangerous you shouldn't do it. Always know your limitations and stay within your skill set. Thanks for bringing that up.
