You're one to talk Mr 2 part process 😂 I realised that under normal pressure it didn't really make a sound, only with the compressor did it kind of work. There will be more don't worry, I might be starting YT makers whistle band, watch this space lol. Cheers buddy! 👍
That was great, really entertaining! That curve-nosed skew chisel is just terrific. I could see that thing being the one-and-only tool for some folks. (The guy who gave me my only turning lesson told me of a lad he knew who turned beautiful work and only used the parting tool! He said he could never get the hang of anything else!) Whistles are notoriously difficult - but once you get started on them I'd guess it's hard to stop... Cheers Pog, I enjoyed that.
Thanks Mark! I appreciate you popping in 😁 I watch guys like Steve Jones and Dave Dalby on Instagram, absolute magicians with the skew! Phenomenal skill and the patience to get that good is mind-blowing. Thanks again Mark, hope you're well buddy 👍
Hi Pog... another great little 10 minute woodturning project... I thought that the hole would have to go through to the end... nicely done... take care...All the best.....Andy
Hi Andy, cheers mate! The hole would go right through if you were making a swanee whistle as that's where the sliding part goes creating a movable bottom. The hole depth denotes the pitch, the deeper it goes, the lower the note. Closed bottom is needed for air turbulence apparently.. lucky really as I learnt all of this after the fact 😂 Thanks for watching mate, take care and congrats on the 1k 😊👍
Hi Pog, Great whistle. Wish I heard you use it. I used to make matchstick models and tried a Penny Whistle. I couldn't get the fipple right so it didn't work. Might try it again using dowel. Great work Pog. Take care. Cheers, Huw
Thanks a lot Huw! Unfortunately the sound of me blowing the air hose through it at the end was the best it got. A couple more adjustments are needed on the next one I think. Trial and error 😀 Thanks for watching buddy!
Cheers Mike! I actually only stumbled across it while looking on the net for fun simple projects to turn. Wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise. Thanks for watching 👍
It is a fun little project for sure! From what I've read since the hole diameter doesn't matter so much but the depth of the hole is what denotes the pitch. The deeper it goes, the lower the note. Hope this helps 😁👍
A lovely little project Pog , I missed the start of the live premiere but watched it again . love the skew work mate ! not having made a whistle before but watched some videos of them being made, I believe getting the fipple right is a bit tricky but it sounds you have it 👍 Nice one Pog and cheers mate, Bram
Cheers Bram, sadly I only get a sort of whistle sound with the compressor feed, blowing normally just sound like I'm blowing into a straw 😂 Ah well, learnt a lot for the next one if nothing else! Thanks for watching buddy, take care 👍
Thanks for watching and your comment! I do really need to come back and update some of these older videos. This piece was very much an experiment, essentially replicating a shape I had only seen in pictures and some trial and error. I could absolutely tell you what I am doing but sadly not why I am doing it. Paul Lockwood, Episode 219 and Steve Ramsey - Make a wood whistle in 5 minutes are two videos well worth checking out.
I'll be honest, it sounded average at best on the day. Since then the wood has moved a little and now its purely ornamental, you win some, you lose some. Thanks for watching and your comment, I appreciate you taking the time. Drop me an email if you like me to make you a mallet. You can see my process here: ua-cam.com/video/XOXQhHSnEEY/v-deo.html
Nice! Your giant bolt hammer stole the show. 😂👍🏻
Cheers!! That mallet features in a few vids including its very own: ua-cam.com/video/XOXQhHSnEEY/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching! 😁
Ha this just popped up in my almost like I'd done a bit of research on whistles recently,
Great job love that mallet.
Haha cheers buddy, much appreciated! I really should revisit the whistle, fun little project!
I love the tapping mallet!
Definitely going to make one of those.
Nice work!
Cheers!! That mallet still one of my favourite makes, gets a good amount of use too! I also made a smaller one recently for littler taps haha!
How can you leave us hanging like that? That is such a fun looking build and you didnt even play a song on it for us!

@@tfturning But if you do another one with sound, be sure to have a trigger warning for dogs. Roadie would freak at the sound of a whistle lol
Fun project
Cheers buddy 😊
Just watched this and I am going to make it tomorrow. Thanks for video and addendum tips.
Thank for watching, I hope you found it helpful! Took me a couple attempts to get right but super satisfying the first time you hear the whistle.
@@tfturning Made it today for the grand kids. I need to do a two tone one now.
@@anthonygreen9609 Awesome, you'll have a band before you know it!
Thanks for the great Video!
And thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment! 😁
Cool! Just in time for Christmas gifts for kids. Thanks,p
Thanks for watching Rick 😀
Nice to see something different being turned for a change, nice piece 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Steve 👍😁
That looks like a simple project for a lathe💡👀. Thanks for showing just how simple it can be Pog🙏 Stay safe. -Mike😷
No problems Mike, I hope it helps! Thanks for watching mate, take care 😁
Very cool whistle my friend! I might have to make one now! lol Take care! 👍
Thanks buddy! You definitely should, took a few attempts to get right but still a fun thing to turn 👍

Hey Mark! 👋
Great project Tim cant wait to see you make the rest of the steam engine
Now that's an idea!! 😂 Cheers Woody!

Nice piece man.
Thanks brother! 😊
Neat project, thanks for sharing..
Cheers mate, thanks for watching 👍
Takes me 10 min to find the right piece of wood to turn 😆
Me too! Luckily I started recording after the blank was chosen otherwise the first half of this video would have been extremely non-eventful indeed 😂
@@tfturning lol, maybe that's my problem!
Now that’s something I’ve never thought of. That looks like a fun project. Nicely done. 👍🏻
Cheers Mike! I actually only stumbled across it while looking on the net for fun simple projects to turn. Wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise. Thanks for watching 👍
Looking forward to some good wood action mate!
Wee bit of a wait yet sunshine, I hope you have something else to do for the next few hours 😅
This video needs more cow bell
You're a cowbell! 😂 Cheers Grant! 👍
Looks like a fun thing to try. I suppose hole size can affect the pitch?

Mega Genial 😍💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Thank you sir 😊
What kind of gouge were you using at the beginning to take it from square to round??? Great video thank you!!
That's a radius skew chisel, they can be a bit unwieldy at first but such a versatile tool. Thanks for watching!
@@tfturning thank you!!
Where did you get that hand held squeeze pump from. I have been looking but I can't be putting the right name in the search engine. Thanks.
Not sure of the specific name either but it came in a cheap kit I bought off Amazon for cleaning camera lenses. Hope that helps!
descriptions would be nice as to why you are doing certain steps

@@tfturning thanks. Looked like a fun project
Have you ever caught a watch in a 4 jaw chuck?
No sir, if my entire wrist was that close to get a watch caught then I'm doing something seriously wrong and probably shouldn't be using a lathe.
Что то станок так гремит, у меня работает очень тихо, что то вам надо подремонтировать
I will have a look into the issue, thanks.
Not a very good whistle, but I want a hammer like that.

My apologies, I'm very aware of it when editing the videos I upload without music. Darn respirator 😂
