Hey! Just a heads up that there's reference to sexual assault in this one. Nothing graphic but if you'd prefer to skip it entirely, skip from 4:15-5:00
“I meant to comfort him but he was already relieved, as if he had already comforted himself.” This is hilarious 😭 I feel like it’s symbolises the brief flicker of guilt most of these emperors in palace dramas feel
I'm glad Zhen Huan chose to protect another concubine's baby and life (Xu Jieyu) even though she didn't have to; it is sad that the Emperor chases after women who even slightly resemble his first beloved and ditches them as if they were nothing to him. Also I'm liking the additional complexities with the additional concubines (I like the complexities) Also the empress and An Lingrong did work on the palace, 10 out of 25 death rate oof the new concubines.... D:
this isn't Zhen Huan's only protection: *Princess Huaishu (6th princess)'s biological father wasn't Xuan'ling* , and Zhen Huan had the man relocated away from the capital for both mother (rank _zhaoyi_ ) & daughter's sakes
@@sawk1875 there was a similar plot tho in the 2nd to the last episode: during Yongzheng's final bedridden state, Zhen Huan informed a weak yet awake Yongzheng that the Imperial Noble Consort (Duan) caught a low-ranking concubine in _flagrante delicto_ with an imperial guard; Zhen Huan waited for Yongzheng to gain consciousness before reporting, and after hearing the news, Yongzheng was so enraged (savagely ordering the execution of both and muttering that the girl couldn't even wait for his ðəąťн) that he immediately began drooling blood and went back to unconsciousness
I only found this channel two days ago and finished watching my way through pretty much all the fantastic ZH videos minutes before this video was upload - what a case of great timing, I'm thrilled to have another video to watch! A+ recap, as always ❤
Poor Lady Xu. At least she has Zhen Huan for support, who is now second to the empress. And she might have a chance to pay back her maid's betrayal if said maid decides to participate in accusing Zhen Huan of an affair with Dr. Wen. Edit: Just rewatched this episode and noticed that Chi Shao looks pissed off, as if there's something more to her motives than resembling Shilan and just wanting to become a concubine. Wonder if the sprite choice was deliberate?
@@SolitaryBee-wd5wf yeah since Murong Jiong changed her name from Murong Shishao (慕容世芍) to Rong Chishao (榮赤芍), and he basically pimped her to Xuan'ling for their clan's sakes by forcing her to become a palace maid, and she got placed under Xu... (Shishao is basically "Empresses in the Palace"'s Shilan's servant & Noble Lady Ying combined)
@@盧璘壽로인수 Nice to hear it confirmed. Also, now that I think about it, was it her who tried to poison the emperor and Zhen Huan at the banquet while the empress is undergoing her fall from grace and ended up killing Jingxian instead (would be ironic to see Murong Jiong's plan to bring their clan back to power backfire in this case) or was it someone else in the novel?
Hope the new year has been treating you well! And you are so welcome- looks like I'll be able to finally wrap this up in just a few more weeks (fingers crossed!)
OMG, I'm so obsessed with your channel. I watched this series over the summer and watching your recaps makes me laugh like crazy (and knowing about the books). Thanks!
I'm not even on these episodes of the drama but I find it so exciting. Despite not having all the characters in the show I am impressed at what they were able to do. Also I've been interested in reading the books for ZH as well as I follow along but I forgot how even more heart wrenching it'll be.
So does Lingrong acts like Zhen Huan doesn’t remember the things she said when she had Longyue? I’d be scared to death if I was her, knowing ZH personality in the books. I remember in TV tropes was wrote that since Zhen huan’s brother was casted out in the drama, An Linrong’s action were less sympathetic, but somehow I find book Linrong so infuriating, in the drama she was just pathetic and sad. Btw I like that Xin is higher in ranks here, she was so mistreated in the drama.
right? xin deserved way more in the drama. all zhen huan had to do was sit and the emperor made her a guiren on the spot. xin already had a _child_ and she was still just a changzai?! and let's not forget how frickin' gorgeous she is (duan and xin are by far the most beautiful women in the harem and you can't convince me otherwise). the emperor is a dunce.
I feel your frustrations about the family names and honorary titles😄. The ranks, and the way they give out honorary titles in the books are mixed from several different dynasties' harem systems. They sort of save their honorary titles and only go by their family names at some of the two-word ranks (because in the dynasties when such ranks existed that was how they did it). Giving someone an individual honorary title to put it before her rank is generally a much later thing (presumably only in Qing). And even in Qing people of the higher ranks wouldn't need a title as she may well be the only person holding the rank so people just address her by that rank and no further differentiation is needed. Yes, the honorary titles only works for differentiation, mostly used for lower ranked concubines as there would be loads of people at the same rank. In the book it is all inverted as if the title could actually bring some honour but in history Hua Guifei (Nian Shilan) and Gao Guifei (Gao Xiyue in Ruyi's story) were both just called Guifei, Noble Consort, and they were considered more honorary than the titled Guifeis who were not initially a Guifei, like Xian Guifei (Ruyi) and Chun Guifei (Su Luyun). It actually becomes clear when we consider that the empress would never be given an honorary title 😄
I just started watching your channel today! I’m on your rrl 33 recap, you are great! Really concisely explaining what happens in these shows, and the bonus context like what money burning means is super helpful!
Just checking the situation related with the future crown prince and the few sons options, the empress is trash for not putting in place the situation of the royal family all because of the jealously. Thanks for these videos, I really want that these novel see light out of China. Also I hope you can do the same with the next drama Yanxi palace because there are few interesting differences with some characters.
Here’s to hoping that we get Zhen Huan’s takedown of the empress in the next novel. Yixiu's adopted son and all of the empress’s allies are about to die in misery.
@@盧璘壽로인수 I was talking about Consort Que's son but looks like I forgot the fact that Yixiu and Rouze's sons are excluded. You could've just pointed that out and not end your sentence with a rude response.

I really like the book having Zhen Huan and Xu be friends. I like there is still some caring in her despite her anger.
It’s almost torture, waiting for these to be posted. Lol I look every day to to see if anything‘s been posted. I love them so much.
