This is a good honest review, and that’s why I love your channel. Thanks for unbiased content. I’ve got a 24, loaded with brass, 4 wheel steer, and still rocking the stock motor. Not sure how all these people are burning them up. I put the Furitek lizard alone into it, and the stock brushed motor gives the smooth characteristics without the CG penalty, which is substantial in my opinion. Furitek stuff is good, don’t get me wrong, but $130 to make a $200 truck top heavy? No thanks. A new stock motor... $8. Keep up the good work man! Great content!
My scx24 motor died within 2 months of buying the truck. Only mods were brass weights in the stock wheels. Replaced it with the barrage motor and a year later still going strong
You can easily get rid of that jump in speed with some tuning in the app. Especially with their newer updates in firmware. It can also run 3s easily for more wheel speed and will run lights as well. I can transition from super slow all the way to full speed with no jump in transition. Been running this setup for at least a year though. Pair it with a Mofo Ugky AF chassis and it’ll stop all that rolling. I’ve put in some work on it and Furitek is always updating and coming out with new stuff. Even better stuff coming VERY soon from them. I’ll have it on my channel as soon as it drops! Love the channel and glad to see you with some Furitek stuff!
@@RCReviewChannel totally agree! Thanks for the response! I like your honest opinion on it. That’s the reason your channel is honestly one of the few I actually watch all the time. Glad I found your channel, and watched this video. I just picked up a couple of these little guys, the C10 and JLU. I am planning on leaving the C10 relatively stock, and full mods on the JLU. The Furitek system was at the top of my list, but after watching your video I think I'm going to pass. You make some very good points, and the one about the CG sold me. Thank you.
I have the same motor & metal gears but I’m using the original esc with the lizard with blue tooth & phone app to adjust pretty much everything. I’ve distributed the weight better & have front & rear lights. Mine is very modified with shock upgrades clearance links & a bunch of treal upgrades. It’s probably one of the heaviest moded ones I’ve seen. You are right on on your assessment. It’s slower & the overall performance is kind of weird everything definitely helped but that body in general is top heavy. It’s still super fun & it’s an awesome Rc but I think it’s kind of tall for its size which makes it less stable. If it was wider or you could space out the wheels for a wider stance that would help. It’s just funny when we buy a Rc for a little over 100$ & spend over 200$ plus & it still tips over pretty easy and goes slower. Its electronics are pretty trick for only a 24th scale vehicle. But this is the Rc that got me hooked so it’s still one of my favorites no matter. Good for rainy days or whenever you can’t take a larger RC.
Pro-Line is releasing 1/24 scale Hyrax tires. You can pre-order now. The only problem is they come pre mounted on wheels. Hopefully they will be coming out with just the tires.
Hey you can replace the front body post mount with the esc box and just servo tape a magnet to the top for more foreward weight and adds room in the back and makes the body easier to open up all in one.
I think the motor works just fine. I think people's expectations are not realistic. The great thing about the hobby is there are choices, and aftermarket companies that give us those options. The wizbang stuff you speak of appeals to some and not others and that's what is nice about the hobby. The reality is there's not many 24th scale comps, so it really comes down to users expectations. I have 3 scx24s 300.00 build , 500.00 build and a 800.00 build (minus the spectrum recivers and dx5r transmitter. Running a torque beast, komodo, and surpass motor all 3 with lizard and Tegu esc. The 500 build with the torque beast is by far the best crawler, however the komodo scx24 is the most fun to drive with 4ws, brushless set up and almost every option part. I always go to it go ease of use, fun, and maintenence free running. If there was a comp I would run the .50 torque beast with lizard esc, but reality is there are not those type of functions for most areas. So its really just users expectations. The 2 cell esc lizard is a great choice for a brushed set up, and being able to program crawl then punch to get over obstacles is huge for drivability in a crawler, amd foc is amazing for slow speed modulation.
Great review Francis, but honestly my c10 with max uogrades, oil filled shocks, Rc4wd wheels/tires, brass, high clearance links plus so much more and upgraded brushed setup would out perform that setup all day. Don’t need all that motor at all. More negatives then positives IMO. Love the 1/24 platform and it performs amazingly all day long. 🤙
Patagonia tires, wheel weights, and mount the stock esc to the inside of the body with 2way tape to add direct body weight to counter the motors high cg. I installed on my deadbolt and none of my friends can out climb or out perform this setup.
What mods have you done to offset the higher cg? I am going brushless with my c10 but I would like to keep it planted still. How did you arrange your battery and receiver?
I think some of your “cons” are easily worked around, moving some of the weight to a better low ati on for one, two I don’t think you can honestly compare the stock motor / esc to the furitek saying it’s the same slow speed and control on an actual corse. On a table with no resist sure. But the stock motor / esc absolutely can not turtle crawl without punching and letting off back and forth. Yes the stock location on a stronger brushed motor and a better esc may be the best LCG solution but I just don’t see how one can say the one month life spawn of a stock motor is better than this. Not to mention your suspension has no limiting strap on the front, but it does sound like some gear mesh is off on something
Holmes hobbies should get in this game a brushed version as well as brushless... was not impressed with the performance upgrade of this system although it would save burned out motors when you add all the brass
