Building a Lightweight Indoor Crawler Course from garbage

- Опубліковано 19 тра 2024
- With Winter wearing on, and this injury keeping me off the mountain bike, we decided to have a little fun in the shop. This micro crawler course is built from boxes, plaster, paint, and a variety of fake plants and rocks from the hobby store. Build one of these yourself, and make your basement a lot more entertaining!

The micro crawler course sits atop two sawhorses from Lowes, and is made from one sheet of MDF. The course measures 4 feet by 6 feet, or 122cm by 183cm.

“I cannot express enough how this is not a tutorial.” I actually may use this method for a railroad layout!
Yes. I feel inspired to get my Old Märklin Train from the attic and build a landscape with it. Completely forgot about it.

I was told by matt from IFHT to leave a comment about how sick his roost cannon was here
Hahahaha yeah fuck a crawler course, I’m gunna build a roost cannon. Why pretend to drive when I can pretend to roost!?!!
What is this whole “roost cannon IFHT” thing?
@@Losovox ifht posted a video of basically a potato cannon that you fill with dirt to make it look like you roosted, and they (matt) told every one to post their comments on Seth's videos

I kind of had enough of this guy. Adios!
Same can be true with bikes. After awhile it's all the same.
Yeah
@@femto505 True. I love GMBN's presenter. But it's getting repetitive. There are putting out the same video they put out a few years ago. I listen to bike vloggers a lot more lately. And GMBN tech, Doddy is very interesting and he put out awesome content.
Make some sort of tunnel under a plaster mountain and that is where the “garage” for the crawlers will be
Wide diameter PVC pipe cut in half (or slightly larger than half) makes a great tunnel starter.
We need a shirt saying: "I can't stress enough, this is not a tutorial."
Yes, and have a URL to every video where he's said that.
So true

came down to say this exact same thing
I just came down here to request this😂
Thanks this channel has got me obsessed with mountain biking and now rock crawling in my backyard
Hey Seth, i must admit, after watching your rc Videos i got myself a microcrawler, too. Now im constantly driving it with my kids and really enjoying it. So thanks for that. Keep up the great work you're doing.

He should build a mountain that's really hell inducing.
With a tunnel under it that doubles as car storage, so he doesn’t have parking spaces taking up room in the table
I know you probably get these textes 24/7 but you are helping me incredibly! It sounds weird but it's true. You help me recharge from the world. I love your videos and I cant get enough of them. You're helping me find inspiration and motivation to go out biking... and you got me into R/C. I'm so happy that you exist. Your videos mean a lot to all of us. Not just me. We love you.
I'm a recent convert an... I find crawling such a soothing, stress relieving hobby. Super chill FUN
Me too having troubles with building 24 scale course started with sheets of plaster wet and stick to make hills going to try expanding foam ty
Can we have some predictions on how long its gonna be till Seth buys a real jeep and starts a proper rock crawling channel as well.

seth: “welcome to berm peak express - come for the mountain biking, stay for the micro crawlers” 😂
in all seriousness, i dig these micro crawler vids and am learning a lot while thinking of a project i want to pursue 😊
He could build like different terrains like a mesa or even a mudding course
Agreed that would be awesome and then a wash station for the mud.
Don’t give him any more ideas bro he would turn his whole house into a micro crawler course
@@mugismtv it would be the best youtube series ever
@@mugismtv true
If you want to add light weight obstacles, a can of spray foam works wonders. Spray a blob here or there then use a bread knife to carve it. The beauty about spray foam is it is dense, and light (since it's mostly air). Use the high expansion gap filler type.
you can carve ruts into it as well and then paint it up so it looks like mud. Using the water based liquid clear, you could even fill the ruts with glossy clear, when it dries it will look like water.
Just thinking: if you wanted to make a winter section/snow, paint things in white, and off white and use gloss clear to make it slippery.
If you wanted to make a "desert" section, you could use camo paint in tan, get some plastic cactus and it'd be gold jerry, GOLD.
I am just getting into crawling and I might just make one of these.
You could also just screw down your 'mountains" so you can rotate them, or move them around to change it up. When you're laying down the plaster, put down some old grocery bags first so it doesn't stick to your base. Pre-drill the plaster sheets though so they don't split when you put the screw in. Also use pan head screws so it doesn't crack your mountain. You could even use plastic washers to further protect your plaster work.
pin this comment. ftw
Great video as always Seth, it’s so awesome seeing you have an idea, create it, and test it. Watching these videos always hits the spot for me. Keep creating.

Welcome to Berm Park: my new house I'm converting to a micro crawler course.
My grandparents have like a whole man cave with like scale trains and background like Seth was doing but much bigger like a whole garage but with trains and scenes made with the same stuff Seth uses besides the trash he like uses cardboard and puts papier-mâché around it and then plaster around it it is amazing
That would actually look really cool
Video after: I turned my entire neighborhood into a crawlers course
@@david94549 Video after that... USA the new crawler country
This would be perfect for the ranger station. Like instead of a pool table for the guests, you would have a small RC course in true Berm Peak style.
Or make it a mock up of the public bike park, but with RC trails.
Mahalo my dudes roost cannon looked pretty realistic!
What a COOL and AMAZING idea and so well executed!! Even by 3:22 when you said "this doesn't look at all like terrain" it already looked good enough to make it worthwhile. Very well done, brilliant!
When Seth said that he’s addicted to RCs he really meant it.
It's going to be so strange when Seth starts mountain biking again...
Thats Great! I devinetly like to see more of this Building and Driving Crawler Stuff. Thank you for this great content.

Glad you found something to play with during your rehab time. Wish you a good recovery!
I think a little fake pond with rocks scattered across would be pretty cool. You would have to stay on the rocks and not fall in.
Could probably make a really nice looking pond / river under the bridge using some resin
@Eric G thats what I was thinking but I couldn't rember the word resin
Yeah resin is good for that in you paint the bottem

Hey Seth, get better soon. As a 4x4 guy I gotta say I love the vid and at my age your vids made me want to try mountain biking. All the best!
Happy Valentine’s Day.

I just started watching this video since I’m getting back into rc and realized I used to watch you when your channel was called Seth’s bike hacks. Hype to start watching again!
I'm not really into this stuff, but really like your channels and if this gets you through your injury I'm good with it! Really creative, by the way. Reminds me of back in the day when I did model railroad setups.
I hope you get better Seth, I think you made quarantine interesting
I'd like to see bits of terrain that could be moved to reconfigure the routes.
Sweet I love this. I just got my first ever mini crawler I've had plenty large trucks so I wasn't sure if I liked this at first but I made my track I. The back and really liked it but now after seeing this you showed me the true fun of these minis. I'm already planning my mini course for my garage
This is fantastic. I’m just getting my kids into RC, but we haven’t tried crawlers yet. This seems like a great way to do some indoor RC! I think one of these would go great in my boy’s room!
This speaks to me so hard. When I was a kid, on rainy days I would raid the recycling bin and use old cereal boxes to build skateparks for my tech decks. Definitely had some fun!

awesome. This reminds me of a toy we had back in the 80s called stompers. Essentially, they were self directed, battery operated 4x4 cars and a whole lot of fun.
Just found your page due to looking at ideas for a mini micro crawler course for me and my son cause I'm buying a trx4m for his birthday and your course is awesome and I ride mountain bikes so I'm glad to find your channel
Seth is literally going through my dad's mid life crisis... He had the dopest real life model crawlers and we made an entire course but using milk crates as the base so they snapped together and you could change it around so it never got boring. Different terrain and obstacles you could easily swap out. Childhood highlights for real. Miss this. Best dad ever so dope this is giving me flash backs hahaha.
That sounds awesome!
@@jonathansnow736 dude it was so dope if I ever have kids imma go hard in whatever they're into that shit was fun.
I think you should make an "urban" section with all city trash...cups, cans, those 4 cup cardboard holders...stuff like that.
Love your vídeos and dedication on your projects! Get well soon brother and take care!
Love the 1/24 scaled crawlers. Very entertaining video.
It would be pretty legit to have like a garage under the table with a „drive up“ ... would also be cool as a storage for the remotes and the RC Cars 👍🏽
That would be sick
That is a great idea
The most entertaining mid life crisis ever
This feels like a personal attack 😂😂 I'm 32 and just built my first outdoor track at home 😂😂 I'm too young to have a mid-life crisis yet it's just a new hobby that doesn't hurt my knees 😂😂

Great job on this first course! Add a log ride, and using some spray foam insulation create a rock wall to climb on one side!
Seth, that looks freakin' sick. As long as we get good content, take your time and get back to 100%, my dude.
Remember when Seth was forced to pivot to an entirely different topic and we all followed along because we secretly love Seth more than mountain bikes?
This is why you are UA-cam goals and one of the main channels i look at for inspiration on my channel. Keep it up.
Yes we do love Seth more than the content, just listening to him mess around just makes my day!
Oh my gosh I’m a big fan of what you just did!!! That looks so 😎
Nice one I like it 👌🏻 just coming to the detailing part of my build, thanks for some ideas 👍🏻👍🏻
With holes in the 4x6 base (think welding table) each large “mountain” could be modular with a few dowels on the bottom. Able to be moved around as you get bored with a certain layout
I absolutely love that suspension bridge. It looks beautiful.
......I'm Loving The Crawler Track My Friend.... .......Good Job!!.....
Genius....I keep watching it over n over
Omg yes I needed this, i'm fairly new to the channel but you already have me hungry for more of your content.
This was like watching a Bob Ross painting. I thought " this is going to look like crap" then it turns out looking great. Good job guys.
Thanks for the interesting video. Can’t wait until you’re healed up and doing bike stuff again.
Just bought an scx24 because of your videos. We need a part 2 to indoor crawler park!
I think this calls for a suspension log bridge for the mountain bikes! On berm peak!!
welcome back Seth!!! also, that track looks really well made! ( maybe even too good to expect from a person that hasn't even been in the hobby for more than a year, this coming from a kid that's been doing all things rc for 8 years ) hope you can get back on the trails! get well soon
Dying to see the second half of the table. Love my SCx24
Very cool Seth and such an inspiration to our crawler course! Love the rc content as much as the bikes.👊💯
Let's go Seth!! You posted it's slowly getting back to normal!!
I love how he didn’t intend to make it look realistic but is looks soooo realistic
Thanks for the inspiration I might do this with my mother in a little bit
Its a nice start, the good thing about this scale is how easy it is to make tracks using model scenery, you can even use G scale items and build houses with balsa wood. I even use wood coffee stir sticks you can buy really cheap on amazon.
You know it’s gonna be a good day when you wake up to a berm peak notification
we need cooking with seth part 2!!
Nice job..I had a lot of fun building mine at the start of 1st lockdown, i named coronaville..it had suspension bridge and volcano

Love the course. You have a lot more patience than I do. I used all natural in my course I think I actually have a grand total of maybe 60 40 lb bags of topsoil on my course amongst branches from pine trees and miscellaneous other yard debris.
Love the second gen c10 bodies! The blueish green one matches my ‘70 pretty perfectly
Seth: I can't stress enough how this video is not a tutorial.
Me: *meh I'm copying it anyway.*
This guy seems good at building stuff
He should build some mtb trails
Are you for real
Looks awesome. I painted my micro-course with normal grey wall paint. Let it dry for a little time and then used dirt added with a brush. So its not glossy and you need way less spray paint. Spray paint works in my opinion best for adding some highlights...
Nice i have a indoor course i use in the winter then i take all the dirt back outside and collapse the table for the summer great idea you have cool course 👍
