Bram's vampire probably had been influenced by Abhartach from irish mythos, a evil king who returned from the dead and demanded blood in a bowl to drink.
@@RoguePlutonia That what everyone believe mainly influenced but Bram was Irish and know the folktales. Bram had an interest in folktales and the occult, so saying the local story probably influenced Dracula as well is not far fetched. Especially the more magical side of Dracula as Abhartach was a sorcerer.
Absolutely the most creepy and best episode you’ve produced since I’ve been a subscriber. And how about ol’ Doc Alford! Wonder what kind of magazines HE kept in his waiting room....!?
I love this channel! I've been a subscriber since 2017 I believe. You have cases I have never heard of on any other channel. This one is one of my favorites! i love deep dives into cases!
The artwork is fantastic, the narration is equally wonderful. I’ve always been in love with The vampire and werewolf mythologies. I even write short stories and ongoing stories based off of them the way they were supposed to be… Terrifying. I would love to see more videos on these two iconic and terrifying creatures keep up the good work man! *Maybe one on Vlad III tepes Dracula? Since The reality of the man is arguably just as terrifying as the monster from the novel *
Wow...what a fascinating video. Something really special about this particular episode for me. Could be my fascination with vampires? ;-) The artwork seems to top itself with each episode. How is that possible? Great narration as usual, but for me you seem to have topped yourself with this one. Thanks!
More please! This is a great vid, and the theme of vampirism has popped up in one or two other videos, like the one on the aswang. However, I would love to see a follow up or two on vampires as such. There is plenty of true crime to talk about, like the killings of Peter Kürten, Fritz Haarman, John George Haigh, Richard Chase, Rod Ferrell, and so forth. There are also plenty of proper folklore stories. Arnold Paole, Petar Bagojević, and other unnamed vampires were reportedly dealt with in Eastern Europe, while in America, Sarah Tillinghast and Mercy Brown were known as vampires. I could easily see two long specials dealing with these stories, or a series. I was unaware of these two cases though, so this was very interesting and informative.
The artwork and the narration is out of this world!!! I rest my head at night and get great sleep because of this man. And nothing makes me happier in life than a good nights rest
14:47 The Originals 😬 I don’t think the shows choice of having the original and most powerful family of vampires in New Orleans was a coincidence! Great Video!
The artist's interpretation of these creatures, spirits and locations are so amazing. He has such a great imagination. He thinks outside the box of what an artist would usually draw and the resulting drawing sucks you into the story.
The storytelling, art and narration are great as usual! I've heard of St. Germain. Some writers have used him as a vampire while others say he's immortal. I've never heard of the New Orleans case involving him, and certainly not the other cases.
St Germaine is mentioned in one of the internet sites about New Orleans ghosts and hauntings - (not UA-cam) I've read about him there. The two brothers is a new one though. Funnily enough somewhere on youtube is a very early talking picture - from memory called 'The Bat' - which is a different, almost forgotten Hollywood take on a US based vampire tale.
Aside from Le Comte de Saint-Germain as he appeared in Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's 1978 novel HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, I had not heard of any of these stories -- and I've been reading about vampires for decades. Thank you.
@Justin Halladay Yes, he is one and the same, though no historical record places him in America. He was real but is not known to have made it to the New World.
@@goldo1107 They're legends, Marky. James Brown, a 25-year old former slave from Guyana, did kill one James Foster after the pair had fought over an alleged racial slur. The missing second crewman had never been on the ship, as he had overslept in a brothel and missed ship's movement. Brown was convicted of murder (no evidence came about involving him drinking blood) and sentenced to death, but the sentence was commuted by Andrew Johnson because there had been a rash of death sentences handed down to former slaves in the post-Civil War era. Brown was a maniacal prisoner and everyone avoided him. The only people, however, known to have been attacked by him were two prison guards, one of whom he stabbed with a fork, and several inmates trying to bring him food during his 13 years of solitary confinement. He was sent to an asylum in Washington, D.C., but they sent him back to Boston immediately. Eventually, he was sent to a penitentiary in Ohio, where he calmed down, made little trouble and constantly harassed local, state and national politicians with all manner of requests, as he slowly and surely went insane. John and Wayne Carter were vampires of a sort. They did kidnap people, drain them of blood and drink that blood in the belief that it would make them strong. A girl did escape their clutches and led police to the Carters' apartment, where four victims (and two corpses) were discovered. It did take eight cops to arrest the pair, but not eight cops apiece. They were tried, convicted and executed by ordinary means. No stakes involved. As for Dillsboro, I don't know what to make of that. The best I could find was the murder of a married couple and a couple of young girls, whereupon neighbors chased the perpetrator to the Alfort residence. The next morning, Dr. Alfort and his wife were dragged out of the house. Neighbors demanded to know where their 15-year old son was. The parents refused to answer. As they were being held by scared vigilantes and not constables, the Alforts were killed and their bodies burned in their house. Prior to the fire, the cellar was searched and a crude coffin was found (only one). Unfortunately, it appears the men who had kept watch on the house during the previous night missed a painted-over window that led to the cellar. No trace was ever found of the son, but there were no more murders in Dillsboro or the surrounding communities. There was also a strange story about a bat-like creature seen in the branches of a tall tree. A hunter shot at it with a crossbow and the creature disappeared out of sight. The brush was thick and there were several small caves about in the underbrush and no one was brave enough to check. Perhaps, this was that missing son, hiding in the trees to be drilled by a cross bolt and, eventually, crawling in a cave to die. Who knows the truth? Was the son a vampire or, more likely, an extreme suffered of Porphyria? Was he just insane and being kept hidden by his parents, as was unfortunately common at the time? We will, likely, never know. However, like the Jersey Devil and Sasquatch, these stories will take on lives of their own in the course of time.

The only decent and scary vampire film that doesn't romanticise them is Tobe Hooper's 1979 version of Salem's Lot! 41 years later, this film still scares the shite out of audiences!! (Myself included!) The drawings of the monsters in this episode is fucking terrifying!
I hate how vampires are often portrayed as attractive rich people. There is nothing scary about catwalk models with fangs. Monsters must be ugly and terrifying. My favorite vampires are the ones from Fright Night, with the ridiculously wide Muppet mouths.
@@remc0s I love those Vampires as they are actually fucking terrifying, especially when Amy turns into one! The one thing about Jerry Dandridge in the original (And not that awful remake!) was that whilst he appeared swathe and had the facade of sexy, cool elegance (And I'm a Dude! Lol!) Yet, when he showed his true form, he was fucking scary! Dwight from the Night Flyer was terrifying too! I hate that too, when they try to make Vampires these sad, lonely figures with class and elegance, they're blood sucking bastards! Jack Crow (James Woods) in John Carpenter's Vampires absolutely nails it when he's talking to the young Padre in the Van! Wish someone had said the same thing to Stephanie Meyer!!

ive never seen the movie, so if all what happened to them when the sun touched them was to become a living lightbulb, why did they didnt whant to come out during the day?
Here's a thought: in the story about Dr. Alfort and his wife, it's mentioned that there were THREE crates in the basement: one for the doctor, one for his wife, and one was unoccupied. What if the couple had retained JUST enough of their humanity and love for their son to plan on eventually turning him too, so that they would all be vampires together? I don't think he was a vampire at the time that his parents were caught by the mob, otherwise he would have been using the third crate. I am not saying that this is absolutely what happened, of course not. I'm just offering my own interpretation.
So In a weird way, your opening theme reminds me somewhat of The Unsolved Mysteries opening theme (which is a very, very, good thing). I do Appreciate your work!
Derek Landy, author of the Skulduggery Pleasant series, came up with a rather fascinating combination of the two vampire archetypes: vicious, near rabid beasts with alabaster skin and eyes the colour of pitch. They grew regular human skin during the day which protected them from the sun and they regained their human intelligence and personality, and as soon as night fell they ripped it off like a set of clothes and became monsters again until dawn. I read (I believe) the second book when I was 11 which was their first appearance in the series and oh god did they terrify me.
There are many types of Vampires Hollywood versions and real life. I read an article that said, the Founding Fathers warned us Not to let the vampires into our country. It would seem that they have been here for a very long time.
Well-done. These were new to me. I would also like to see The Dover Demon, and the Flatwoods Monster covered along with the vampire of Croglin Grange. This last has a possible ancestral connection to my own family. 👍
I was wondering when a video about vampires would appear as there are countless stories about them. I do highly recommend Bram Stoker's Dracula. It is very well written and superbly vivid. A magnificent piece of classic literature. I'm currently reading Frankenstein and that is shaping up to be a good book to read too.
I already read both, and I can assure you, they're both great novels that are radically different from what we think of them these days [with notable "differences" being that Frankenstein's monster isn't some creature with a "dumb muscle" personality (not to mention being birthed by some unknown means, and we don't know whether that involves electricity) while Dracula wasn't even hurt by the sun; he was just powerless because of it (he actually has a beard and a goatee in the novel compared to some descriptions of him these days)].
I found your channel just a couple of days ago and love the way you do these videos... BTW, just a small request... Can ya guys make a video on Madame LaLaurie...???
The second story is super interesting, because I go to school at western Carolina university, which is a short drive away from Dillsboro. So I always make sure to always tell people about it around halloween time in the fall semester!

The St. Germaine story is pretty spooky, and it is well known in New Orleans. The Carter Brothers are also a well known story around there too. Pretty interesting.
I expected a discussion of mercy brown, but this was way more interesting Thanks for the shout out to my old home of The Big Easy! Laissez les bon temps roulet!
@Libby Berman it was still considered a case of vampirism; not by us, but by the standards of a time when infection and decomp were not as understood as they are now. There's many a story of "vampires" being dug up and desecrated by people not knowing how bodies decompose. We shouldn't overlook these situations; they help provide a viewpoint into how societies were at that time, although there's some that sadly still believe in this superstition.
I love hearing about cases I've never heard before! This is some amazing research into this topic. I really enjoy this video! Keep up the amazing work!!!
In 1968 in Defiance, Ohio (about half an hour from my hometown), there were apparently sightings of a vampire. Around the same time, a man named John Brennan Crutchley was attending the college there (he graduated in 1970), and later worked at the local GM plant. He eventually ended up in Florida, where he was arrested in the mid-1980s for the kidnapping and rape of a teenager whose blood he drank. The "Vampire Rapist" (as he came to be known) was also suspected of other murders and disappearances. Going back to the Defiance vampire sightings, with the exception of a passing reference on a Facebook forum, I've never seen anything explicitly connecting them to Crutchley, But the fact that he was in the area around the same time, and given his subsequent nickname, seems quite a coincidence. As well, in 1972, people in Defiance also reported seeing a werewolf. Perhaps that story's connected to the other two? Mind, none of these connections would stand in a court of law. But it's difficult not to speculate.
Long ive had suspicions that if Vampires do exist they probably have farms underground or in closed off quarters where humans are specifically bred to feed a population of 1000-10000 vampires worldwide. It would make sense that the industrial revolution would reach eventually those even older than humanity which means that blood farming or flesh (since i assume cannibalism may be benefited by this underground) is now mechanized and vampires have organized into legal even human fronts for their ghastly enterprises

Bram had an interest in folktales and the occult, so saying the local story probably influenced Dracula as well is not far fetched. Especially the more magical side of Dracula as Abhartach was a sorcerer.
@@TransHammer interesting. Thanks
Revenants and draugr also likely had an influence. Many of the more popular magical beings all made their own contribution.
Was it single person blood or blended?
I've got a huge weakness for vampire stories, so this episode was like an extra special unbirthday present for me!!
oh, happy belated unbirthday!! (and many more) :)
Absolutely the most creepy and best episode you’ve produced since I’ve been a subscriber.
And how about ol’ Doc Alford! Wonder what kind of magazines HE kept in his waiting room....!?
Wow! I'd never heard any of these stories before! Another well written and illustrated creepy set of bloody tales!
Tempers boiled over when Brown demanded a cape and a rhythm section.
"Only if I was still alive in 1866 so I can relive my Vampire Hunting days again!"

I love this channel! I've been a subscriber since 2017 I believe. You have cases I have never heard of on any other channel. This one is one of my favorites! i love deep dives into cases!
Bedtime Stories: "American vampires wreaked havoc."
Van Helsing: "Why didnt anyone call me for help?"
Bedtime Stories: "Have you checked you texts?"
Amazing amazing amazing, no one tells it better! Glad to here these stories coming to light again!
This show deserves an award or something. It's just on such a high level. Thank you for your content.
Brilliant as always. I have seen many paranormal TV shows that were not as good as the productions Bedtime Stories make.
Might b a good idea to do a few scary stories regarding Halloween since you’ve done one already for Christmas.
Thanks!
Bedtime Stories got me refreshing youtube Sunday every hour. Im gonna become a member my next paycheck for sure.
This might be my favorite overall, just fave overall YT channel. So great.
Another fascinating and brilliantly illustrated story, way better than anything on television.
True.
The content and artwork keeps getting better! Keep it up gents!
I've heard St. Germain practiced alchemy. Alchemists were known for their pursuit of immortality, like the Philosopher's Stone.
My first encounter with Vampires as a kid was Salem's Lot 1979 man that movie scared the crap out of me as a kid.......
Man that european/ baltic vampire illustration is awesome! 1:28

Yessss exactly what I needed today, was running out of stuff to listen to while I'm working.
Aside from Le Comte de Saint-Germain as he appeared in Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's 1978 novel HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, I had not heard of any of these stories -- and I've been reading about vampires for decades. Thank you.
These stories are not true at all.
@Justin Halladay They are...supposedly. Emphasis on Supposedly.
Nothing is better than burrowing down under the covers and watching Bedtime Stories alone in the dark!
I have never heard of these stories. They are perfect for Halloween. Thank you for another excellent tale!
Wait a minute, this isn't about politicians.
Rudy Guilliani does look like a vampire though.
I thought it was about e T H O Ts.
I wouldn't be so sure of that......
Maybe Hollywood ?

I didn't know James has such an exciting back story 😂

There is a real female vampire lived in the Brazil in the mid 19th century too. I’d like you to make a video about the Brazilian Female Vampire. 🧛🏻♀️🧛🏻♀️🧛🏻♀️

Or maybe they hunted in shifts so he got away?
@@eskaflorence5659 Maybe!
So In a weird way, your opening theme reminds me somewhat of The Unsolved Mysteries opening theme (which is a very, very, good thing). I do Appreciate your work!
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of TV shows like this... 😀
This is not a news broadcast. Lol
I love you channel. The Hoosack Tunnel hauntings was my favorite. Your artwork makes the stories much more intertaining.
There are many types of Vampires Hollywood versions and real life. I read an article that said, the Founding Fathers warned us Not to let the vampires into our country. It would seem that they have been here for a very long time.
Good job. Thought I'd heard them all, but these stories were new to me. Thanks!
Looks around my surroundings, love it, hope for friday thirteen brings some inspiration for Jersey's flying Devil
Wow I was actually notified on a sub. Bout time YT. Another great story guys.
As interesting as ever. Thank you for this.

As always, thanks for another great story!
New to the channel and just found this through the random and yet sometimes appreciated UA-cam's algorithm. Just earned a subbed mate.

Nowadays, I assume you can just raid the local blood banks.
Unless you want it fresh from the source ¬u¬
Unless it's Sunny D... in which case Vamps may possibly find that off putting :P
I think most with porphyria would just settle for blood transfusions. 😁
I'll be sure to guard them with my trusty vampire axe
Long ive had suspicions that if Vampires do exist they probably have farms underground or in closed off quarters where humans are specifically bred to feed a population of 1000-10000 vampires worldwide.
It would make sense that the industrial revolution would reach eventually those even older than humanity which means that blood farming or flesh (since i assume cannibalism may be benefited by this underground) is now mechanized and vampires have organized into legal even human fronts for their ghastly enterprises
