  • Don't buy Iko shingles, they do not care about their customers and do not replace defective products. They try to get you to just put a band aid on it until the warranty is up and they are free.
This roof is only 4 years old in this video.
They are trying to get me to settle for 1200$ on my 50 square roof (150 bundles) just the materials alone would cost 5000$ and with labor 10000$+

Best part of IKO shingles is knowing you will need a new roof in less than 10 years 15 if you are lucky

Iko shingles circa 2021 have an improved tar strip. Lay one on top of one for only awhile in the sun and you will have to rip them apart. He said he installed these 90 plus degree day. There can be issues when it's that hot (not recommended by some manufacturers). Not sure what happened here. Not saying iko is the best. But to those that stumbled across this video I thought I would add some possible context.

This is why it’s so important to ask the contractor what they are using. Roofers will try to save a few bucks and don’t even know what the warranty is on what they are installing.

  • @chaddles623

these typically happens from the roofing installer when they open the bundles and lay them out to install and the sealent sealed to something else loosing the sealant on the ends and some whole shingles, this can happen with any brand, call the roofing company that installed it.

think you need to speak to the roofing company about proper installation for one, not nearly enough overlap for a warranty approved re-install.

    • @kevinkoski6593
      @kevinkoski6593 5 років тому +1

It isn't the installer. There is no viable tar strip to seal them down. You can put as many nails in the shingle you like, but if there isn't a strip to seal the ends down, off the roof they will go.

We have an IKO Cambridge roof, the only thing worse than the shingles is the customer service. Supply houses around here stopped carrying them all together so that says something. Have had multiple. Blow offs since it was installed

I've been having shingles lift and the tabs tear off in any wind condition. I've had numerous repairs and IKO refuses to honor warranty or cover their product. Their customer service sucks. This was a new home construction built in the summer. Purchased the home in July 2017. Already have to have a New roof insralled.

IKO has a class action lawsuit against them for their garbage shingles. They tried to reduce the amount of oil in production to save money you think sealing is a problem wait till they start falling apart.

I started a claim over 1.6 years ago and they offered me 1200$ settlement on my 50 square roof. They gave me Phil Nelson (I will double check the name later) and he is the worst Rep for returning calls once you deny their settlement offer!!
I have called my Iko Rep Phil Nelson many many times with no answer and never a call back, I have text him many many times and he won't respond back anymore.
And as for Scott pollards comment you have no clue what you're talking about lol..
To sum up 1.6 years, they came out and tested my shingles and came back with there results: the shingles preformed as they were suppose to but for some reason the bond is failing...
Doesn't this mean they are not performing as usual?
All I want is them to warranty my roof that's all

Darren, NONE of these guys are roofers. From what I can tell in this video, poor installation is not a factor in your roof problems. Anyone who tells you that the roofer should have tarred each shingle is an idiot. That’s why they have the sealing strip on them, there’s absolutely no need for tar on a shingle roof PERIOD. If you rely on tar for anything shingle related then you are doing it wrong. These IKO shingles are by far the worst on the market. I see nothing but problems with them. They do not seal. I’m from Toronto, and these shingles are extremely common here because they are cheap and made here in canada. I wouldn’t only ever recommend using certainteed #1 Owens Corning #2 GAF#3. Nothing else. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • @TheRoofDoctorsHollis

could be poor install practice. Opening bundles above work area and allowing loose granules to fall onto exposed shingle will keep them from sealing properly

Sir you clearly have a install problem. Clearly have a install problem. And walking around and lifting on what little seal they do have is only worse. Furthermore you are literally documenting on you tube a reason for them to deny your warranty. I would be willing to put money that were I to look at your roof 75% or more of those shingles are high nailed. If you don't mail in the common bond they may never seal properly.

If your nails are all in that 3/4” nailing zone you have nothing to worry about. Looks like your in a well treed area. There was a short time when the self sealing strips on the Cambridge were thin but there thicker now. I’m in Edmonton area and I’ve installed Cambridge on new builds in winter. Never had one blow off.

I can assure you that IKO is one of if THE best shingle on the market. My father is a general contractor and we have roofed over 300 roofs with IKO shingles and it is one of the thickest shingles available. And as others have stated this install in the video was installed incorrectly. Alot of times roofers follow storms state to state and they slap a roof on in such a hurry it's usually always wrong. And remember do you think those stork chasers are really gonna come back and fix your roof when they are in a different state? NO...Just like ANY shingle this be happen.

IKO shingles are shit, they installed those shingles on my friend's roof and a year later he's having problems with it, the seal strip in the back of shingles( adhesive) won't work and shingles won't seal properly, and every time there's moderate to strong winds he ends up losing a lot of them, and we have heard of other ppl the same thing, and also about the warranty is the same crap they won't honor it.

Thank you for this video, I live in Canada and I have to do my roof again after 18 years. The contractor was using the IKO shingles on my roof and I was told that the product has 25 years of warranty, however, the shingles on the sunny side started to fall apart already after 18 years. I have contacted IKO and they are offering me the warranty reimbursement ONLY if I use their shingles again. My question is what is the normal lifespan for the shingles in general? How good these IKO shingles in comparison to the other brands?

Late reply but none the less. IKO shingles are by far the worst shingles on the market. Any roofer that recommends them is also trash. The other guy telling you about tarring each shingle doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about. The sealing strip on these shingles does not activate. I see it all the time!!!! I install shingles all day every day so yeah take my word for it.
