Once this guy was my judge on a piping solo competition. No pressure kid I thought to myself.
Winner today at Blair Castle Glenfiddich championships!!! Congratulations
I just met him tonight, at my local piping group, here in North Vancouver, BC. He is the nicest guy, a great teacher and knows his stuff!

I love how just shuts his eyes and makes it happen. Jack can say to the world, "I can do this with my eyes closed"... and can he ever. :)

I watched this video before I played highland bagpipes, and I thought "hey, that's pretty cool."
Now, after several years on the pipes, I think "HOLY WOW, THIS GUY SMOKES SKILL!!!"
It takes people to know a piper. It takes pipers to know REALLY good pipers.
This is tremendous. Doublets and triplets, notes within notes, technical mastery and beautiful artistry all in one. He is doing this musical heritage proud. Thank you for the post.

This is absolutely amazing playing as a piper myself I can truly appreciate the sound of clean fingering perfect chanter and tunes drones I could listen to this medley 100s of times and not get bored of it well done jack you are the best bagpiper I have ever herd

Anyone on this blog who knows anything about piping would recognise this is pretty unbelievable playing. My teacher was a very eminent piper, and he could put on a show - but this unconventional technique was not even known to, or heard by, that generation of traditional pipers. This is kind of what Paganini did for the violin. And musical, not just technical. Great!
Im struggling to find the Unconventional technique... Just seems like a very talented piper.

This man has such an excellent talent. Who could do such a thing as he did, beautiful and gorgeous. And he was true in his performance. Just a complete marriage of sight and sound.

I was just curious, being that you are a student of his, is there anyway I can get a copy of the sheet music for Afternoon at The Green Monster. It's the second tune he plays. Everybody I've asked has no clue where to find it.....except at Fenway Park. Thanks.

We still have Ceol Mor (the Great Music) the original Gaelic music for the pipes (often known as piobaireachd), some of which is known to go back to the 1200's (e.g. "The Blue Ribbon", which I believe dates from as far back as that). And we have a wealth of Scottish folk music. Please remember, the words and the tune are often two separate things.
Wow. It is so important for less experienced pipers (like myself) to hear this kind of skill and artistry once in a while - just to keep us inspired and goal-driven. Thank you for posting this!

Ah, noteriety for the distant American state. He's really prime, and I am glad that a person without orthodox grip can rise to the top (I grip the chanter like he does). Good audio quality, by the way.
Saw him in concert several years ago. During the performance two of his protégés came up behind him and began acting like they were turning an invisible crank. "the Machine".

First "bagpipe" solo not from Bulgaria, that I like, and He use some finger tricks and rytmik melodies like the Bulgarian players.He learn it, I am sure, not in England Scottland or Irland. This is nice to see how diferent culturs work in simbiose.

@Gaelforced Your awesome. You must love bagpipe music like me. I was once obsessed by them, tried to learn to play but couldn't no matter how hard I tried. They are an awesome instrument of war. Have you ever watched the documentaries Ladies from Hell and A Call to the Blood? their documentaries about how the bagpipes becames known as instruments of war, and how pipers were actually banned in England during some period, can't remember but they are great videos.
