Thank you for the fast video speed, show me, I learn . Thanks again for sharing your video
You are most welcome. Happy to help if you have any questions.
I like the cardboard template technique!
Agreed. I did use a scribe to get it as close as possible. We used the cardboard template for the insulation and wood. Then we dry fit the wood in the van and used that as the template for the vinyl. Got it almost perfect on the first try.
Nice job! I have watched a video of a company that uses a 3/4” closed cell foam & fiberglass board that is sturdy enough to allow for the 3/4” play wood overlay to be reduced to 1/2” or even 1/4” plywood. So if I decide to buildout a van and if I can figure out where to get the closed cell/fiberglass composite board which is 60% lighter than plywood I will go that route. If I can’t find it, then I’m going to do the same thing you have done. Thanks for your video!
@@bgzwlz5119 you are most welcome. Sounds like a great alternative. I wish we would’ve known about that fiberglass board. Weight is everything.
Nothing better than new floors!
It will never be cleaner 😂
Ayyye!!! Looks great! Phenomenal job!
Thank you so much!
That looks so nice I’d probably sleep on the floor 😊
We may be doing just that! 🚐 We have an upcoming trip before the van is complete.
Looks amazing, I’m working on my transit floor today
We would be glad to answer any questions that you may have. We’re no expert, but we could share our experience. Good luck.
Looks great . I need to see it
Wow, amazing job I wanti g to do the same, but am cosidering 1 in polyiso directly on the van floor instead of filling the channels with closed cell foam. The thought is to increase circulation under floor and reduce trapped moisture. Thoughts? Alternatively, I was thinking of 1/4 in ply on floor, then polyiso, then 1/2 ply. Thoughts? Both would keep the air gap off the floor, but I'm not sure if the first idea would cause the poly iso to squish into the gaps over time.
@@phantom2120 hi. We decided to concentrate more on the insulation than airflow due to the type of travels we are going to be doing. I would think eventually with a heavy enough load the polyiso might sink into the crevices. However, there are so many ways to design a van floor. Our way is no better than yours!
Do you think this would work without the middle 3/4" inch layer if one wished to increase headroom? The plywood would then be glued to the 3/8" and the metal van floor...
@@morisless3532 it would work but I would verify the bonding agent of steel to wood.
What advantage does a floating floor give in your opinion?
#1 No holes in the van.
#2 No squeaking.
#3 Height. We have a medium roof, so every inch counts.
Super happy with it!
Great job......
Thanks!
What are your thoughts on Crash stability? Since the ply is not fixed with screws to the anchor points.
Great question. The walls will be overlapping on top of the floor.
Looks good how long does it last tho?
@@flip0345 we will let you know 😀. Seriously if we have an issue we will post it to help others
How is the insulation and sound dampening compared to traditional method?
Hi ChubbyPanda (love the name!)
I don’t have anything to compare it to, but the vibroacoustics and vibration damping seems to be effective. As far as thermal properties its some pretty dense material. I give it a thumbs up 👍🏻
At 3:32 how did you get that rear edge piece to fit the shape? It doesn't look like it was cut, was it just bent without needing to cut it to get the proper angles?
That piece is the rear trim piece from the AVC RIG kit. They have it perfectly shaped for the Ford Transit. Great product. Check it out here: avcrig.com/products/avc-transit-floor-step-and-trim
@@Joe-Lyn-VanR ah very cool, thx for the response. I have an Express so I’ll likely have to make mine custom but that’s a great looking kit
Why cant you tell us what matetials you used??
