Not cause he was hard to draw but because elemental stands were way to powerful. You can't just "tank a hit" from fire like you can from a punch. That and his intelligence made it hard to have fights including him seem like a challenge.

Avdul's stand wasn't the fastest or the best at close range or at blocking attacks, it's best defensive capabilities was the fact that it could melt stuff like steel and bullets. Imagine if he hadn't died and years later, he could have helped Polnareff (or Giorno and his team) against the Boss, since he's clever and all, I'm sure he would have heard or felt that Pollnareff was in trouble... I loved all of the stardust crusaders, I just wish they didn't have to die, same goes for Kakyoin, he was a student and we didn't see much of his stand. He could have been a great support character too.
