While it sounds great in many cases, this is a unforgiving field to want to go into. From layoffs, to demands on your time, etc. It is not a choice to make likely unless you are serious about committing yourself to it.

Something else prospective game developers need to be aware of is the high demand on their time in most studios. Burnout is common according to some of the developers I’ve talked to who move from games into other software jobs.
Also layoffs are a very common occurrence, which is fine when you are single and in your 20s but not so much if you a little older, have kids/spouse and someone is asking you to move across the country. The talent drain in the industry seriously hurts it long term as well and has been this way for the 30 or so years it has been around.
Planning to Major in Game Design and a Computer Science Minor. This video brings a smile to my face. There's far more in-depth stuff than what people assume. :)
I would recommend reading Press Reset by Jason Schreier to know the pain and joy that actually comes with game development. He did a ton of interviews and research into the industry to discover what it is really like to work in AAA game studios and indie development

Easter eggs I like to mention 0:20 The slime is the mascot from Dragon Quest series, the green Rupee is from The Legend of Zelda series, 0:37 The castle is from The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild. 5:46 Even though it’s obvious what these Easter eggs I will love to tell the audience for people who don’t know gaming the game that was show is Tetris. 5:41-5:44 I think that Study hall made their own monster.

Game design bolstered with media studies was a concept I hadn't considered.
My alma mater combined them in the same department along with film/screenwriting. It was really neat.

I started in Game Design then switched to plain ol' Comp Sci lmao. Maybe an easier way to get your foot in the door at a university
