Have a bachelor's in bio, and this is very realistic. Covers all the basics. I'm glad this doesn't strictly go into the prospects of an advanced degree in the field, since many either are content with a B.A., or drop out of PhD programs. Well done!

I just changed my major to Biology at my community college, and when I transfer to a university I’m going to specialize in Marine Biology. But this was very interesting and I didn’t even know Astrobiology was a thing! When I was little I loved sharks and was obsessed with them, and I still am, so I hope to do lots of research on and working with sharks, and hopefully get my SCUBA certification to go on dives as well!

I started college with a major in Toxicology (an off shoot of Biology and Chemistry) because I wanted to help develop/test medical technology. I'm still a toxicology major, but now I'm studying Entomology and Arachnology and applying to Entomology graduate programs. So I can confirm that the medical technology to entomology pipeline is real!
Pst, Biology majors: I HIGHLY recommend you take additional chemistry courses, especially if you want to go on to a master or doctorate program.

When you take a Biology degree, the first 2 years will be mostly general requirements for science degrees: math like calculus, foreign language, Humanities such as Music or Art History or Sociology, etc., and intro classes to other science courses like Physics and Chemistry. And beginning Biology courses like Organismic Biology. If you want to change majors to another science, this is probably a good time to do so, because these are requirements for other science majors.
Keep in touch with the professors of your department and check in with the dean of your department. They can give you ideas on any field projects and academic opportunities, honor societies, the maybe internships. They might have ideas on career directions as well.

@@jean7164 not too bad, I’m starting with my AA at a community college, so I’m not doing too much bio focus yet, but I’ve liked the 2 bio classes I have taken. I’m definitely biased, but especially if you’re still not sure where you want to go (which is absolutely fair) it might be worth starting at a community college where you can try a few more classes for cheaper, and if science is a struggle for you community college classes tend to be smaller and I’ve heard from some friends at 4 year schools the professors tend to care a bit more. Whatever you do, if bio seems interesting you should go for it, a lot of colleges offer free tutoring you could take advantage of if you start to struggle

Curious if you can connect with Khan Academy to feature this video in the opening unit of their High School Biology course. Students will appreciate these Fast Guides in the courses, since they connect mastery to opportunity, and show possible paths. Partner content has precedent on KA, given the Creative Biology videos in partnership with Adobe-in the very course I'm suggesting you feature this video. I think a dream of mine would be to become an entomologist, but my biggest concern would be my math skills. If I don't have what it takes to make it, I am going to do everything I can to try and help the sciences.
I don't care about business at all and the environment is the most important and interesting topic.
I saw this video and it reaffirmed that these topics would be interesting to me but it is my own ability that I am concerned about.

I am on 5th year of Biology so I can give you a bit of perspective.
You don't need that much math to get through uni. It does help a lot and I personaly like math, but there are people who studied with me who didn't like it at all. Usualy you need to pass some kind of math exam to get into uni and there are some classes you will need to take at uni but if you are somewhat okey with it and practice it should be okey.
I don't know what grade you are currently, but just give a bit more time into math so you can pass those entrance exams (if there are those in your country) and then you don't need to worry.
Good luck! Hope we will be colleges one day. :))

I'm a third year Bio student, I'm not that experienced but I can tell you that math doesn't even have to be that present on your research if you don't want to. Like, you get to pick what you want to research about and your main focus doesn't have to involve complicated math if you don't want to. You'll need basic math, sure, but if you've made it to college you certainly can do it ❤ You can totally become an entomologist! Good luck on your journey

I don’t recommend doing a biology degree to be honest at least in the US. The job market has changed especially after covid and it can be really hard to get something with decent pay with just a bachelors. The best jobs in pharma and biotech will require a PhD but even then I think it’s kind of a scam because you are doing 6 to 9 years of additional education while making very little just to make less than people in legal and buisness development. It’s a fine degree for an aspiring doctor but it won’t help you to stand out from the larger applicant pool. The life sciences are still a great field to get into but as a student you will have better options if you take a degree that has some kind of coding or engineering component.

@@ArtificialSuicid It really depends on what you’d like to do while you pursue your master’s. Laboratory technician jobs are the most readily available for decent graduates with biology degrees and they usually pay (at least in my state) anywhere from $20-$25 an hour. I worked briefly as one but didn’t enjoy the work, and fortunately, public health doesn’t require lab experience. There are other alternative routes you can pursue like teaching, healthcare, working at a zoo, etc. It’s important to network and gain internship experience while in school.

So please suggest me for which degree i should go.....should i go for mbbs or bsc or any other degree

Hey, if you think you wouldn't like to practice as a doctor then I don't recommend mbbs. I do Biological Science and I'm so so so in love with it. By choosing Biology you can totally engage in research and go into the health filed, researching about illnesses so you can help people. I feel the exact same as you, I love helping people with research but I'm not cut out for practising as a doctor. I think you'd be fulfilled by being a biologist

I'm in a similar situation, i almost finished my degree in dietetics and I love almost everything about the human body, i would have no problem in studying and knowing the same as a medical doctor in terms of knowledge on physiology of the human body but i don't want to actually have patients that are bleeding and dying to save. Instead of giving drugs or doing surgery i would like to be help people with the right diet for their medical condition. The problem is that (at least in my country) dietitians depends too much on medical doctors we are basically nurse of nutrition here so i just ended up hating it.

Hoopefully in the next season - fingers crossed! But the closest to philosophy in this first run of Fast Guides was Interdisciplinary Studies and Political Science. Depending on the department, PoliSci may focus heavily on political philosophy and its dialogue with moral dilemmas and ethical systems. But I encourage you to check out Study Hall's Community post encouraging viewers to suggest majors for future Fast Guides! I've suggested philosophy and a few others there, and I encourage you to suggest philosophy there too! :)

I'm doing a uni Bachelor in Biology right now.
For me, I think it was a big mistake.
I like the effects of science, cool facts and deepening my knowledge slightly.
But I get headaches from microscopy, I thought I liked microbiology, but I get scared the more I learn about diseases and worms and stuff, I just like fermentation.
I don't like learning the many many names, I think sometimes going into that much detail and naming shit is just a human pasttime for crazy people.
Basically I like having science, but hate doing it, it's boring, longwinded and often not as cool. I don't like being devoted to one such discipline is something for me, I have a professor who's life goal is basically describing and naming flatworms...
The reality is, time is short, we only have like 80 good years to use in a life, if you're lucky, and the way it's going, I'm living a boring life that I will regret very badly.
I already regret some choices from my life, and I couldn't even drink ethanol in the USA yet!
    TL,DR:
Science can be fun for some people, but think about your choices carefully, science these days is mainly documenting, experimenting and keep repeating. Maybe fieldwork for some, long hours always.
Follow your dreams I guess, but don't get your hopes up about making the world a better place for all using science, if that's your goals, it's a shitty one, a drop in a bucket.

@thetexan8365 Studying a Science as a major has been a privilege, definitely the best choice I've made in my entire life, it makes me happier than any other thing in life. In Bio, we study a lot of Chemistry to understand how atoms make up molecules and these molecules make up all living beings. We also study math to understand about statistics we have to make in papers we publish. Physics is also required to understand phenomenons like how animals are able to run, insects walk above the water, live in freezing cold waters and so on... The journey so far has been amazing and I'm sure it will be for you to. Good luck on this academic road trip ❤️ I wish you the best of luck on your studies
