I've been wanting to stop doom scrolling. I've been hooked on Instagram for about 8 months. It got really bad. I swear that I've been wanting to stop. Then, today, the notification for this video came in. I deleted Instagram 2 hours ago.
The number of times I yelled “YES” out loud as you were making points. 😅 I recently deactivated my SM (FB and IG, the only 2 I had) and man o man… I feel LIGHTER and can actually breathe and focus. The point you made about doing something and only thinking in the back of your head about how you can get a good photo… SO TRUE! Now I still think about getting photos, but I either remember that I’m not posting them anywhere and don’t take them or I can take them and just keep them for me. I no longer think about taking a photo with the intent of making it public for people I don’t even know to see. I’ve had social media for over 10 years and I am just really realizing how lonely and empty it makes me feel. At this time in my life I am craving friendship and authentic relationships, and social media is not helping with that at all. In fact, it is doing the opposite. Maybe for some people it’s different but I am so much happier already. I’m excited for what I can create and discover about myself without the opinion of others. I did notice that I am on UA-cam a lot more, so I will have to create some boundaries around that, but it doesn’t make me feel empty or sad after watching videos that I genuinely enjoy and also they provide useful information.
Perfectly explained! I only use UA-cam accordingly and I deleted all fuckin social media and damn dating apps and right now I feel much better and stronger. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with others.
I deleted my IG Monday after having this one account for 6 years, and you're right Matt. What's the point of having the account if it adds nothing to your life. Not making money on it, and it's not going get me any women so bye. And at 35 i told myself i didn't wanna be on my 40's still on social media, so time to move on.
I've been off facebook for 2 years now. I deleted the Instagram app 6 months ago and I've been off twitter for 3 months now. I've been able to get more done. Social media is such a time waster.
Here are whats happened when i deleted social media platforms: - i have finished my engineering course which was one of my main goals. - i learned piano, guitar, bass - i am in good body shape as i am going to gym more. - i am more connected to my friends in reality. - my income has increased 400% because i have time to do a study and learn the skills on the work i do. - i dont care about other peoples lives. - i am less stressed because i dont care if other likes my photos and posts. - i have more free time to do my favourite activities like walking, playing instruments, call my family and friends, organising my home, folding my clothes. Etc… - my eyes feels better because i use my phone less that before. Believe it or not this is only what i remember while i was writing this comment there is much more to tell you. Why are you waisting your time quite the whole shit and enjoy the real life.
I deleted them 2 or 3 weeks ago and I feel free dude. I don’t care as much anymore as I used too. And stopped comparing myself to people who were in relationships too.
Dude, you are the shit. You are by far my favorite self help UA-camr I’ve come across. I’ve never related more to someone. You give me hope. Thank you so much for your channel and the work you put in. We all appreciate you very much.
Been free of social media since 2022. Just moved into my apartment. All my decorations are items I wanted to hang up that are unique to my interests, not useless trinkets from social media that they want you to believe are necessary for decor. Look at most modern apartments, they all have the same tacky HomeGoods signs and decorations everywhere!
I was on and off insta a facebook for three years then finally did away with it last year. You’re right. Sooo incredibly freeing. YT is different. I also don’t like the shorts. Long form meaningful content is where it’s at! Appreciate the video
I completely deleted TikTok and Instagram a few months ago, and Snapchat just last night. You feel a higher sense of calm, and you don't really care what others are doing. I agree with the FOMO; it disappears, at least for me. Again with what Matt was saying, you stop seeking attention and validation from people. If you're going to an event or doing something just to "get a cool photo" you're completely removing the meaning of that experience. Without social media, you are way more focused on yourself and you live for the moment. Also, what I noticed is that when you don't know what other people are up too, you can have more interesting conversations about what they've been doing lately. If you already know (via social media) why are you even asking? You're just making pointless conversation.
I deleted Instagram a month ago because of my studies for my professional exams. I can say its the best thing I've ever done. My only focus now is on building on a good linkedin profile. Adding more skills in my CV , building myself. Thanks Matt for this video. Loved it 💯
starting from today i will delete all social media apps on my phone, i need to focus on me that's my biggest battle not the validation of other. thank you man you've been a great help !
This vid you hit the hammer on the nail perfectly. I’m glad this is being talked more more. Social media is like any other drug; when utilized out of balance it can destroy your mental health and sense of self. It’s also how you use the apps; whether it’s for memes, liking your friends pics. How you use it in terms of functions can make you feel even worse about yourself. We are living in a world where people desire instant gratification; barely even being capable of going one day without the products. They are designed by top notch psychologists; spending millions of dollars to keep you as attached to the sites as possible. It’s important to regain control of your life; and to love yourself for who you are; not comparing your life to other peoples highlight reels😎
I have face, insta, and youtube... no more and more than enough. Im feeling tired as well from Facebook. When i spent time without Facebook i felt better i could read books and doing other thigs but soon im back again just looking rolling for what i don't know. Really annoying how makes us addictive and can't have time for real life. I really hope i can get until i can delete as well. Thanks for the video.
I'm a dance content creator, and for me my best advice would be to just be on social media only if your going to post something, or do something related business. It's super hard but once you develop that discipline, it will all end up getting better.
I barely use social media the only thing, I use the most is UA-cam. I do not give a Sh!t about social media. It is toxic and all people do is brag and brag. Plus it was bad for my mental health.
Glad I came across these videos. I just commented on the one you did seven months ago finally deleted Instagram. That’s the only social media I have anyway, but it was very triggering. I used to just temporary deactivation but today I’m like no gone. I feel great.
Yes sir what ever u mentioned after leaving the social media is real, self care and self improvement is important than seeking validation and being or having the fomo of whatever happening in the social circle of others, its a peaceful life and thank you sir its very valuable content for many struggling youngsters out there, the social media is a honey trap you should never get into.
Great video. I have social media but am a light user at most because of the sorts of things you talked about. Whenever I see other people's posts, I'm reminded of comedian Stewart Lee's social media segment from his Content Provider tour, and I then feel perfectly fine with having not given it any more time. One thing that annoys me with Instagram is the 'You have unseen notifications' phone notification - there to draw someone in and make them addicted because when they subsequently open Instagram, there are no notifications to be seen.
bro , this video is amazing . you reach to my brain and make me feel how risk is social media , i delete my social media apps like facebook , instagram etc , from two month and i am now so focusing on my work , bro i work 4 time more than before , thank you bro .
I once did a dare with my siblings, once week without instagram. i completed it, i was so amazed that i could do it, my siblings lost the game like two days after starting. it felt like the day had three more hours. now, i keep a 5 min timer for ig, and sometimes add 15 min. it helps me lots because for some reason that i need to open it, if i get distracted then i know i will get the timer and i will not access to it again. i also think it depends on the content you consume. and i remind myself that my life is not perfect and neither other people’s lives. i feel good knowing that i keep control on it
I’m close to deleting WhatsApp too lol. I find the whole contacting people via text so irritating. You miss out on all the non verbal communication cues that in person meet-ups facilitate.

Hey Matt, may I have your advise? I run a beauty business and my main marketing is on instagram. I’m not actively growing my business, as I’m most likely moving away in the next year. I really want to delete instagram , but I feel scared about being cut off from the world in terms of clients and advertising. I do have a website so maybe I need to invest more energy there instead? I would appreciate your perspective. Thank you 🙏🏼 (I don’t have a personal instagram, I deleted it 3 years ago, so glad I did! My business of the only thing stopping me from coming completely off)
Having a business Instagram is cool since you’re on there being a creator instead of just as a consumer. That’s the only way I’d ever get back on Instagram. If you need it to run your business you shouldn’t delete it
I have a question. Is it a relapse if I edged for about 30 seconds or so but no ejaculation. I’ve reached up to 5 weeks on the streak but 2 hours later I found out I’m slightly leaking but nothing dramatic. Is it a relapse?
I would say as long as you don't reach orgasm it should be okay. I remember so many times when I did streaks I would make a mistake by counting my days. But the thing his you got to just not count the days and just keep moving forward. I'm 25 and it's still a struggle from time to time. But I do believe that I will reach a stage when I'm not looking for pixels to get horny from. So don't give up, were gonna get through this together.

For real. My relatives are only talking to messenger and not in person.
