This was such a blast to shoot. I'm genuinely surprised I didnt have frost bit on my fingers by the end! haha enjoy the vid guys! Head to nickjohnstonmusic.com/ if you'd like to support my music!
You are what’s right in the new era of sophisticated guitar music. I’m constantly inspired by your tone and technique. I hope to get a lesson when the crazy dies down. Thanks for all you do.
Hi Nick, i purchased your custom shop schecter 4 months ago, and i always thought needs a humbucker, now i see you got it...but it's an Indonesia made i guess ( no custom shop )...
For anyone curious...we shot this in -20 degrees Celsius in 2-3 hours with just the three of us running around like madmen trying to get enough footage for a 30 minute song before the sun set. Nick and Scott had to take turns warming up in my car. Im surprised Nick doesn’t have frost bite on his fingers from this shoot as he mentioned already haha. We shot on a single camera, my Arri Alexa Mini LF that I had just received and wanted to test out in a harsh exterior setting with less than ideal conditions so this was a perfect setting. We used Atlas Orion Anamorphic Lenses, primarily the 40mm. Aside from one shot in the beginning on The Dana Dolly, I shot everything handheld with help from my EasyRig Vario 5 Stabil. All natural light, no time or support for video lights. Can't wait to do it again!
I like to play guitar and used to listen to many guitarists since the 2000s and only YT knows how many "virtuous" guitarists/bands it has shown me in the last 2 decades. This dude is one of the few that actually I enjoy listening to.
I started playing Guitar in the very early 90s... after being raised on PROG-Rock, Tommy Emmanuel and Joe Satriani. I got into Allan Holdsworth, Yngwie... and a lot of shredders, as well as Jazz guitarists. Recently I’ve been listening to World Music and old styles of music. When I hear new guitarists, it’s virtually impossible for me to bat an eyelid anymore. However... this is exceptional. The music is fantastic... and the guitar playing is just outstanding. There’s so much emotion and feel. The guitar doesn’t impose on the song at all... The guitar work is so lyrical and complimentary to the song. And again... the music in the background is fantastic. It’s a great song even without guitar... but the guitar adds to it. This is absolutely unbelievable.
I remember this Saturday morning where my friends and I were doing some extra course work with our music teacher. When we were waiting in front of the school gate we were listening to this album since it was released earlier that week. We decided to analyze it on the spot as a practice for our upcoming music exams. Those were the good days and I’ll always treasure those memories. Thank you Nick, for giving me that. I’ll always be grateful
The music is fabulous, the performance a necessary complement to give context to what you want to convey; However, what contributes the most to this work is the prominence given to Nick and his guitar, like a Templar knight fighting demons with his sword.
I remember going on a road trip from LA to Vegas and we were driving through this vast landscape where you can literally see the edge of the sky; everyone else was taking a nap in the car and I was against the window blasting this song in my headphones. Good vibes that I will remember for the rest of my life
You are one of a revolutionary guitarist on this era. Your touch and tones explain the high taste of music. There is million shredders over the world, but i haven't found this sound feel on their works, you bring this things to beat them
in a nutshell: Nick is chased by the Coronavirus in the Woods symbolized by the Dude in the Red Cape. He's crankin out a tasty funk riff seems to help at first, but then the virus feeds on it and starts to multiply. Thats a no go but addin a Phrygian Dom scale shred frightens off the virus which gives time for Nick to escape off the Mountain. The virus multiplying still but the solo gave Nick an aura so he's kinda protected. Ending with a cliffhanger, Nick is walking to the valley to save humanity from the virus, but it closely watches, the struggle is obviously not over yet. 😁👍🤘
Once again Nick you have profoundly illustrated that you are more than just a guitarist! You are in fact a very creative artist - one who happens to be a musician who uses the guitar so very well as part of a wonderfully rich and varied palette of colours, techniques and skills as you plumb the depths of your creativity! Whew - I'm out of breath - I'd better go lay down.
Reminds me of "The Village", I guess because of the wilderness and the red hoods. Such a good song! I love that you can hold back and say something with your music instead of just playing notes notes notes for 8 minutes.
One my favorite artists! I always thought that good music you need to listen to it a while before you enjoy it! And that that the catchy stuff don't go as deep! I found it to be true with nick (now its weird to me that i didn't get that much)
@@mido3ontheway interesting as this was a fair while ago. I have since listened to cacophony with Becker and Friedman and also heard solos such as tornado of souls and many other great pieces from Friedman. And you are right. My comment was ignorant and totally wrong but I also had no idea and now I do
@@joshmuz9018 It's rather rare when people online dare to admit that they were wrong and are open to new opinions. Thank you for being a decent human, Josh! Wishing you a wonderful day/night.
What a tremendous song and video!!! All of your songs go way over yonder the typical shred stuff. My favorite guitar player and composer by far. Thanks Nick! 👏👏👏

Wow! With the limited time and support you have to make the video, you did a very great job.
Grant Cooper really impressive
EasyRig. Saving the backs of filmmakers everywhere.
that sounds terrible. awesome! :)
hows the guitar?
Just found out the long haired guy I always see walking up and down my street, is a world-renowned guitarist! Super cool!
😍
Finally someone who brings something new to instrumental guitar music.
...Chon, Intervals, Polyphia, Plini.
@@chrisvalenzuela7911 Hell yeah!
I enjoy listening to this guitarist because he makes guitar music sound interesting to anyone. NOT just other shredders.

imagine yourself hiking in the afternoon and you come across Nick Johnston hanging with his Schecter Diamond and those creepy red hoods
The only modern artist that doesn't compromise on art or integrity. The songwriting, groove, and tones are just dead on.
4:28 - That's one big fat tasty riff
I can feel the coldness of the fingers through the screen! Amazing song.
Extremely musical, For me, one of the best musicians of the decade... absolutly amazing.
Epic song. One of a kind Mr Johnston
My favourite track on the album - that build up from 4:10 into that riff is brilliant - the louder the better.

Incredible! The guitarwork and the overall energy of this song brings such a "gentle, yet powerful" vibe. Love it!

The Village. Nick you're a great guitarist and musician.
Love, love, love this album. Did I say that I like this album! 😂
Solid new song! Thumbs up for suffering in cold. You can clearly see how Nick's fingers are frozen, he can barely move them.

FINALLY. I'm commenting, as I watch this beautiful playthrough and enjoying those subtle harmomic changes ❤️
That build up, and the notes at 5:31 at the start of the solo were amazing. No crazy bending or pinch harmonics, just an amazingly blended melody
