Then when I got my PS5 I thought I’ll buy another copy and do a second run in anticipation of the DLC… I’m about 70 hours into this one. It is EVERY BIT as amazing as the first time. Ugh. I love it.

I beat the game about a week ago and I’m honestly glad I have it a chance. Was really hard to get into at first but once i got into it and understood how you get better at the game and fully immerse myself in the lore it goes form a good game to a masterpiece

Would I love to have a miniseries/movies/animated movies/novels accompanying the series in the future? Absolutely. But when I’m playing the game I’d like to put the puzzle together myself. Elden ring is one of the best fantasy games I’ve ever played. 60 hours in and at volcano manor, killing enemies and exploring. The game constantly kicks your ass but it also is very satisfying when you succeed. Like finding a new way to fight an enemy.
From will never do a straight front to back story. There is so much lore in game that the best part about them is you get to fill in your own blanks on certain things.
Fromsoft is absolutely one of the best developers out there today! Elden Ring is one of the best games ever made! They just keep getting better and better with each release and it’s been like that since Demon’s Souls! Shadow of the Erdtree is absolutely my most anticipated release of 2024 and it isn’t even close! Can’t wait! \[T]/
I'm a very casual gamer, I usually play games on the easiest setting, just to relax, but even I loved Elden Ring, albeit for a different reason compared to others. Elden Ring was the first Soulslike game that I played and while I'll still remain a casual, I'll definitely check out Shadow of the Erdtree and From Software's future games. I want to relax, but it taught me that a good challenge is welcome from time to time, to spice things up.
I would highly recommend sekiro, its my favorite from game and probably the best single player video game experience I had ever. Took me 80 hours to beat but was beautiful.
It's was as monumental as ocarina of time for me. 12 year old me was blown away at the scale of OoT. 38 year old me was equally blown away by the epic scale of Elden Ring.
Best game ever by a wide margin to me. The fromsoft formula is what I have always been looking for. I just never knew it until I picked up my first fromsoft game ( elden ring ). I've since played them all. I play on pc. I actually bought a ps5 only so I could play bloodborne and demons souls. That is my addiction level. Oh yeah and I have already scheduled the day the DLC comes out off from work. Haha
@Diabeticninja90 I actually took 10 years off of gaming as I got married, bought house, and had 2 kids. Elden ring brought me back and I am sad I missed all that time. Now I'm back and loving it more than ever, thanks to fromsoftware.
I like to play games on "easy mode". I like rpgs and stories, but i get anxiety when i have to sweat through a game; an extreme challenge provides stress for me, not enjoyment. One thing i liked about Elden Ring is that I could virtually do whatever I wanted to level up and make bosses/areas easier. I put in at least 100 hours trying to cheese as much as I could. Died a lot, but wasnt put off the game, since I could just go do something else. I still wish there was an easy mode selector, but this was the next best thing.
Take from me who's played a lot of Souls games: Elden Ring is easily the most accessible Souls game out because you're free to leave and come back unlike the prior games where you're locked into a section until the boss is dead.
Funny thing is, i never even knew what a dark souls or soulsborne game was. I had wanted to play bloodborne but when i had a ps4 i didnt grt a chance to play it. I mainly bought elden ring because of the fire trailer and because grrm was involved. Little did i know, i was about to have the greatest gaming experience in the world since my first time playing final fatasy 3 (6) about 30 years ago. I love the battle system, the give and take, chess like system of movements is bar none for me. Introduced me to a whole new genre i never knew existed
Ive been buying these games since i was a teenager and I really had no idea this many people were going to love elden ring Its just so crazy to me that the super small niche game demons souls that i got when i was 13 would evolve into something this massive its so cool :) UMBASA
i put 120 hours into my first elden ring playthrough a month after launch and it was great! My first souls like game and still the only one I've liked after trying DS3 and DS remastered. I sunk in another 30 hours into my first new game + right after my first run, but got bored quickly. Now I'm picking up where I left off, just about to reach the fire giant and then its off to the haligtree and pursuing Mogh lord of blood.
Wow, you liked elden ring, but not ds3? Ds3 is incredible! Maybe try Bloodborne if you have a ps4/ps5, it's also unreal. Ds1 and ds2 show their age, so you may not enjoy those as much. Lies of P is also awesome!
Regardless of how you feel about the difficulty spikes and health issue, this game is badass and super epic, the bosses are intimidating, and the open world is gorgeous
Start from Dark souls 1-3, then play sekiro. Bloodborne and Demon souls if you have a ps5. Then do Lies of P, Wo long and maybe Nioh. Understand why the games are fun and loved. Just a heads up Elden Ring is the easiest souls game by Fromsoft, while Sekiro being the hardest.
Despite not having a single clue about the lore, even after watching lore videos, I think the style of story telling works very well in ER. Would I love to understand what’s going on? Sure! Would I change it? Nope
Elden Ring was my first "souls" game. I usually play games for a great story and narrative. However, Elden Ring was absolutely something special, even though there wasn't a traditional story and narrative. This is an amazing game. I restarted a new character to get back my "muscle memory" to get ready for the Shadow of the Erd Tree expansion.
I also started playing Elden Ring about a month ago, never played a Fromsoftware game before. I am now at NG+ 3 and this time I will try to 100% it. Im just a litle above 150h,and I cant wait for the DLC. I love the fact that you have no handholding and 1000 markers on the map,the feal of adventure and discover feals more real than in any game I ever play
Is it really as difficult as they say? I am so interested in the lore of this game and the bosses just look so badass to me, but I don’t want to pay full price for a game that I’m going to hate and frustrate me the entire time.
@@markusbosch2305 the games its very punishing if you refuze to learn it,there is no handholding,no outleveling bosses,no brute force your way to victory. In combat evry mistake it may be your last, even when fighting normal monsters. The game rewards greatly your learning of its mechanics, that beying building a character, exploration,or combat. On the other hand it will also punish you if you dont. So if you want a game that rewards your big brain,Elden Ring will give you an grandious adventure, for at least 200h
There's a reason the story isnt laid out like a movie. "we leave the story in the background, so the player can invision their own story" they should stick to what makes them unique imo. If it ain't broke dont fix it.
Elden Ring evolved the series in all the right ways. It took everything they’ve done right in every game they’ve made and seamlessly injected it into an open world. It’s like the “peak” of everything FromSoft.
The thing I love most about the souls games is that they're building a world and building up characters rather than a "first this happens then this happens" story. I love trying to decode the lore to figure out the big picture.
Please don't suggest FromSoft change how they approach story telling. We don't need more hand holding, spoon fed type games. We love their games for a reason and appreciate the open to interpretation nature of the game. Then we have awesome youtubers like VaatiVidya that can break down the story if we wanna look into it. Elden Ring is an absolute classic for a reason and the other games were also amazing, not really sure they need to change much. FromSoft goes their own route and I appreciate that a ton. We don't need them to start doing what other devs do all the damn time lol
I loved lies of p ! I agree with you're points. But I also love how elden ring tells a story , I also loved sekiro story telling.. im fine with whatever the director decides to do. I trust fromsoftware.
What I love is they took that multiplayer Gameplay loop Souls fans love, and molded it into more of an in game system to manage rather than finding a certain spot and hoping other people meet up there to fight too.
If there is one thing I hate about FromSoft, it´s the elitist part of the community. use your summons. Bleed everything. Do what´s working for you. These games are about exploration and overcoming challenges. These guys would tell Gandalf to throw away his staff otherwise "skill issue". Just have fun!
15:42 Plague Tale may have the better story, but when it comes to gameplay between both video games it can't compete with Elden Ring, not even close imo. If Elden Ring is a open world game, Plague is a closed world game
I’ve tried all of the fromsoft games but I’ve always stopped about halfway through. I’m just not into beating my head against a wall trying a boss 200 times. I’m on my 6th playthrough of elden ring. It’s the perfect game in every way. An absolute masterpiece and the best game of all time. It has the most genius difficulty system ever
If you couldn't beat the Dark Souls games, then you probably never really learned how to play these games. And as a result, you will never extract the same level of enjoyment and reward that those who do beat them achieve. And you are re-playing a game you beat before going and trying to beat those ones you didn't? How boring. You get out only as much enjoyment as the effort you put in. Every boss fight is a dance. Learn the dance, or die.
@@SynathidyI’ve never really understood this perspective. No one can measure someone’s enjoyment of a game because it’s entirely subjective. I also never said I was going to go back and replay the other games either, they just aren’t for me. I think my 300 plus hours of gameplay would say that I enjoy this game just as much as someone who beats it SL1.
@@Synathidyand I’ve obviously learned how to play the games because I’ve best eldren ring 3 times so far. Just because I used spirit ashes or ashes of war means something bad? I don’t understand, do you think the devs put all these amazing abilities in the game for no one to use? Everyone enjoys things differently. You can’t look down on other players due to how they enjoy the game. I’m just happy the game is successful and I think it’s cool people do crazy hard runs with self imposed rules. I also think it’s cool that you can come back to a hard boss later to have an easier time.
@@yeezkneezz6861 If you love Elden Ring you've probably gotten better at the type of game and shouldn't overlook Dark Souls 1...it's as much of a masterpiece as Elden Ring. Don't write it off! :) Enjoy
Matty's over here trying to put VaatiVidya out of a job with that straightforward storytelling suggestion ;) Seriously though, I put like 350 hours into Elden Ring and finished the game 10 times in total on release (up to NG+7 and 2 fresh characters). I played on PC the first time round, but iv decided to switch to PS5 for Shadow of the Erdtree, so I'm getting the Platinum/100% on my second platform now. What an incredible game. I've played all of the FromSoftware souls games, including BB and Sekiro, but Elden Ring is definitely my favourite when it comes to relaxing and doing a quick boss run.
I wonder why they don't do a berserk game and the final boss is Femto, they don't have to stick to the story, just the characters and how apostles look, because the human touch in the apostles design of berserk is just amazing
I love Elden Ring... love all the soulsborne to be honest. But I made the jump to Ps5 so I needed to have acharacter ready for the DLC which -I did this past weeks. And I still found so much new stuff that I didnt found in my original playthrough. I stll wanna keep playing but have to tore myself from it in order to prevent a highr level character for the dlc. At level 120 for those who would like to know.
Honestly I don’t think a lot of elden ring holds up completely. It’s a good game but the game itself feels lackluster once the world is no longer mysterious and the bosses don’t feel like they hold the same level of satisfaction as past titles that I would get from say father Gascoigne, O&S, or abyss watchers. That said I have dlc preordered because it’ll be awesome and working on a character to take through the dlc since my first character is on ng+4
I Need to play play both my son has finished the pair of them Iv created a monster , I’m pretty sure my nursing home will be silent hill at this point, Matty great work keep it up lad
SWIM also knows what it feels like to have that crazy feeling when you can discover the game before the rest of the world thanks to the lovely gentlemen over at former YUZU.
Elden Ring changed me as a gamer. I used to think i was incapable of playing these types of games. "I dont have the patience for games that punish me constantly!" But actually, I really do. I don't have time for games that unfairly punish me. Elden Ring taught me to learn patterns and systems and to take my time. I loved it so much ive played it 5 times now. And I'm 15 hours into Bloodborne and im loving that too. Because of ER i just understand what's expected of me. I get it. And i love how Fromsoft make games. ER deserves to have sold 50m copies. 20m just doesn't sound enough. What's wrong with people!? 😂
I just finished a second replay a couple months ago..... And it was just as amazing as my 1st playthrough.... Though i may need to wait at least a year before a 3rd playthrough..
The only thing that would make Elden Ring better would be a journal that tracks quest progress. Some side quests are nearly impossible to figure out without looking up a video.
That’s the point, Fromsoft has always done this to encourage community interaction, we all help each other figure out the secrets and puzzles in their games
I have been looking at Elden Ring since it came out. Seen friends play it, but I never really been a souls like type of person. The only ones I really played were Life of P and BloodBorne and only got halfway. I've been thinking of trying it for my steam deck, but is it worth the money for someone new to the series. I know you die constantly, but is it harder than other souls' games for newcomers to the genre? I do like a challenge, tho.
I wish I played Elden Ring before Sekiro. Not having the perfect parry mechanic with any weapon I want to use really ruined my experience. I hate dodge rolling combat compared to perfect parry combat. And no, using a shield in Elden to parry isn't even close to the parry in Sekiro. I want to parry using my sword without a shield bash delay.
Am I mistaken or have you never done a visit to the dark souls trilogy on this channel. Please tell me that’s on the agenda leading up to June for the release of the expansion.
Elden Ring's one of if not the best game I've ever played as a decades long gamer and I admittedly have never been interested enough to delve deep in the lore or story. I think I like the mystery element to it all, it's like Aliens, you know F*** all about them in the first few films, but the more that's explained, the less interesting they become. Don't know if that analogy fits that well. Oh well.
Elden ring was great during the time but trying to replay it it’s too slow and such a commitment compared to other souls games. I found not much use for the crafting system either and there was a lot of empty space.
on Playstation you can check via trophies. its kinda hard to tell since its open world, but if you check DS3 its as early as Vordt where you see a huge percentage fall off. so my guess is that most people barely made it past Margit or Godrick
It has the same completion rate as other open world, Witcher 3 completion rate is 23% and Elden Ring is 21% for normal ending and 27% for Ranni ending. Most open world games have around 20% of completion rate and Elden Ring follow that trend.
I'll say one thing, Mimic is basically not being good at the game HOWEVER, this is FromSofts way of introducing an "easy" difficulty option via the games mechanics. Its the same bosses with the same stats and attack patterns(besides nerfs and buffs). Everyone had to beat the enemies to clear the game
Havent stopped playing Elden Ring since it came out. The replay values is really good. Played this many times More than Bg3 etc games. But this will never beat years with Oblivion or Skyrim.
Thanks for coming back to such an old title and seeing if it still holds up.
Lmao 😂

In your reply you assumed that I’m judging someone for using summons by calling it “easy mode”, which I never actually did. Calling it “easy mode” doesn’t mean I’m judging players…
Elden ring is one of the best fantasy games I’ve ever played. 60 hours in and at volcano manor, killing enemies and exploring. The game constantly kicks your ass but it also is very satisfying when you succeed. Like finding a new way to fight an enemy.
I picked up the game again earlier this year around that point in the game. You are maybe halfway through it. it's just amazing.
From will never do a straight front to back story. There is so much lore in game that the best part about them is you get to fill in your own blanks on certain things.
Sekiro tackles that well, there is a tangible storyline you can follow, but also layers and layers of lore you can add on.
I want to relax, but it taught me that a good challenge is welcome from time to time, to spice things up.
play dark souls 3, much worse exploration but FAR better bosses and balanced, fair combat
@@sneaky5141 Bosses of DS3 aren't "far better" or more fair
@@sneaky5141no, Elden Ring has better bosses by far and better combat
I would highly recommend sekiro, its my favorite from game and probably the best single player video game experience I had ever. Took me 80 hours to beat but was beautiful.
Wow we really are pushing retro now 😂

My favorite game of all time, bar none. what a special experience it was. Masterpiece, greatest open world game ever made.
I also agree a masterpiece an experience like no other
It's was as monumental as ocarina of time for me.
Haha
@@RicknWRX true gamer I can’t wait for the dlc
Me stressing trying beat red 13 in queensblood and giving up because I didn't do all prior queensblood games lmao
Sadly not every game is for everyone
Sadly not every game is for everyone
Take from me who's played a lot of Souls games:
Elden Ring is easily the most accessible Souls game out because you're free to leave and come back unlike the prior games where you're locked into a section until the boss is dead.
you've been just pumping out content like crazy recently appreciate it brother
This video was uploaded while i was in the middle of downloading Elden Ring. Matty always knows.
Same thing happened with black flag lol
how you finding the game? hope you are loving it
Funny thing is, i never even knew what a dark souls or soulsborne game was.
Best game I’ve ever played (a boss is currently cooking my shit rn)
Ive been buying these games since i was a teenager and I really had no idea this many people were going to love elden ring
Its just so crazy to me that the super small niche game demons souls that i got when i was 13 would evolve into something this massive its so cool :) UMBASA
Considering DLC releases in June now is a good time to be jumping back in’
i put 120 hours into my first elden ring playthrough a month after launch and it was great!
This was my first Souls game, and its an awesome experience.
Love to hear that! Make sure Lies Of P is your second if you haven't already ;)
@@NuclearAbyss or just play it however you want
@@Seven69297 Or understand that I was giving him a route as an option. Dont get butthurt over a recommendation, that wasn't even given to you.
@@NuclearAbyssdemon souls is the easiest game by fromsoft go to bed. Also sekiro is just timed parries, far from the hardest. What a weird comment
Currently doing a 4th playthrough but this time fully modded. I installed the convergence mod and it’s been fun so far.
I'm playing Elden Ring right now! Still a 10/10 game!
13:53 - 14:25 Like Skyrim it always feels like you discovered something new. It was maliciously hard and beautiful at the same time
Great video Matty. Based Elden ring. Can't wait to play erdtree
Also, Black Knife Tiche >>> Mimic Tear
Never stopped playing ❤
I finished this game when it came out 3yrs ago, and I will think about replaying this. Shadow of The Erd Tree came out, and the new boss looks cool.
YOOOOO you reading Berserk? Hell yeah!!!! You're gonna love it!!!!❤
I still gotta play it
Might as well play it around June when the DLC drops
If there is one thing I hate about FromSoft, it´s the elitist part of the community. use your summons. Bleed everything. Do what´s working for you. These games are about exploration and overcoming challenges. These guys would tell Gandalf to throw away his staff otherwise "skill issue". Just have fun!
First time playing since a week ago - it's fun, dig the fashion
Lots of pretty sights
i love how they improved the dynamic writing and interpersonal relationships from Elden Ring to Armored Core 6
I prefer the story to be more obscure.
Too many games these days force story down your throat or simply get too much in the way of playing the game.
@@Synathidyyou sound insufferable
@@yeezkneezz6861 If you love Elden Ring you've probably gotten better at the type of game and shouldn't overlook Dark Souls 1...it's as much of a masterpiece as Elden Ring. Don't write it off! :) Enjoy
I’ve also come back to it after the dlc trailer, something about playing this game even after beating it just screams HYPE
Elden Ring definitely has a special place in my heart and Iv never played any previous Souls games.
A plague tale requiem was crazy had me shook at the end. I’d love another one to give me an excuse to replay the first two
You should try Devil May Cry in 2024.
I SHOULD AND I SHALL
Not every game needs to be a game movie with "sToRY", Elden Ring is a gameplay focused game that puts what matters in the forefront.
Never played a souls like game period. Might pick this one up while it’s on sale for the steam summer sale
Ironically, I am tackling this right now! I absolutely am HOOKED!
I mean most places we go in are places where the Golden Order technically wants us to not know and understand
@@robdurfee6861 it's not as enjoyable as being able to figure it out yourself.
Elden Ring was an instant classic retro game.
Still making it through my first play through on hour 113 trying to beat it before the DLC
nice!
This game will still be great when it's old enough to genuinely be a retro.
The thing that keeps me from revisiting it is having to learn to play it all over again.
Funny you mention fightin cowboy, it’s because of him I got through my first souls experience (bloodborne)
Oh well.
I just beat that flaming red hair witch. She made me quit the game, but when I beat her, it felt so good.
Elden ring was great during the time but trying to replay it it’s too slow and such a commitment compared to other souls games. I found not much use for the crafting system either and there was a lot of empty space.
gotta change the channel name to rebound
Fr. It's been anything but retro the last few months. Lol
It was the first souls like I put more than a couple hours into,
And honestly Elden Ring is a perfect game, easily in my top 5 of all time
I’m playing it again now , Shadow of Ertree
I use spirit summons cause theyre my friends - I made up little backstories for how we're friends
this game needs a remaster
Hello just curious are you going to play the suikoden series? They have always been my favorite and it would be cool to see your opinion if them.
It would be interesting to see the completion rate stats to see where people fell off in the game!
on Playstation you can check via trophies. its kinda hard to tell since its open world, but if you check DS3 its as early as Vordt where you see a huge percentage fall off. so my guess is that most people barely made it past Margit or Godrick
It has the same completion rate as other open world, Witcher 3 completion rate is 23% and Elden Ring is 21% for normal ending and 27% for Ranni ending.
Most open world games have around 20% of completion rate and Elden Ring follow that trend.
Just started reading Berserk?? Bro you’re in for a trip!
Fromsoftware doesn't need to do anything, least of all what other studios are doing to try to catch up to them.
Im thinking about replaying it again should i cause I'll have to start from lvl 0 again
My first souls game and I’m obsessed with it
Plz do a retrospective of the Original dark souls definitely still holds up today
I absolutely will in June to celebrate Shadow Of The Erdtree :)
There are npcs in the world that tell you what is going on(Gideon is the main one). I dont think you need cutscenes to convey any of this
Bleed build for the samurai is so bada$5 Matty!
I remember playing in all the biomes and i thought wow this is what i expected from halo infinite
I'll say one thing, Mimic is basically not being good at the game
HOWEVER, this is FromSofts way of introducing an "easy" difficulty option via the games mechanics. Its the same bosses with the same stats and attack patterns(besides nerfs and buffs). Everyone had to beat the enemies to clear the game
i still really hope they take the best of Elden Ring and put it into a Dark Souls game.
My favorite retro game
Havent stopped playing Elden Ring since it came out. The replay values is really good. Played this many times More than Bg3 etc games. But this will never beat years with Oblivion or Skyrim.
Best game since Skyrim or mass effect 2 in my opinion. I would probably say only Orri comes close to quality of a titles gameplay mechanics.
