- With a new mainline Final Fantasy game just mere days away, now felt like the best time to return to Final Fantasy XV and all its DLC. It will likely be the final time I dive into this one in earnest as the torch is passed along. Final Fantasy XV is widely regarded as a miss for the series thanks to its combat and story gaps, but the DLC accomplishes some admirable things. At the end of the day, I'm thankful for this one and remember my time with is well as we all get ready to take that next step together.

Was my first FF game, and I remember after 150ish hours of doing all side quests, as tedious as they were, it was time chilling with the broskis, and finally going to the last campfire and man, shit had me in tears
I know what you're talking about, It was my first FF game as well.
It was my first RPG, and the friendships had me shedding tears like crazy! It's a beautiful story, if unpolished. Those friendships just really make the game special. Has there ever been a better group? I mean , the banter alone between Noct and the gang was fantastic.

I think the random pictures was one of the biggest strokes of genius in this game. It was always fun to see what pictures were taken, and then to go back and browse them at the end of the game, looking at my own personal memories. My favorite was the optional dungeon you get access to early in the game, before you’re at the proper level for it, and at the end of it fight a samurai. One of the most difficult fights I had in the game. But I pulled through, and the picture I got was of swords clashing between noctis and the Samurai. It was perfect.
And the beauty of it is that it becomes more than just a quest that you did - it becomes a PERSONAL memory, that is unique to your own journey.

The best thing about them is that the pictures are generated randomly. So the pictures you get are uniquely your own that no other player has. It really makes your playthrough and journey feel much more personal and emotional. I love it.

I loved having 4 boys as main characters and their friendship. The travelling and camping felt so chill every time. I felt deeply connected to them and enjoyed their interactions and growth (with the DLC's even more). The last parts of the game made me cry a lot because they are just so loyal to each other. Every game has flaws and everyone is subjective with their opinions anyway so this is my subjective take :)
I agree with everything you said in this comment. The boys, the camp, the atmosphere was some of the best ice ever seen. What made it tough for me was the the combat was so boring and u wasn't a fan of the story. I wish there were more games like this but just more complete

Just needed the combat depth if ff7 remake, or 16. If they could've just finished the damn combat it would've been far more fun to me and the rest would've felt better. Spamming warp strike all the time, or just spamming attack. Feels like that's all I did, with some sprinkles of l2&r2 for team attacks.

@@taylon5200 what combat depth? Switching characters and spamming commands isn't deep.
It felt like a constant tug of war between the ATB system and the more orthodox ARPG mechanics. Like you don't need to strategise at all outside of hard mode, and even then all of the strategy is done via materia setups so operating the ATB system just becomes pointless tedium. Not only that, blocking is just straight up better than dodging 99% of the time so there's also no need to move around or dodge.
Tldr; FF7R's combat is horrible. I completely disagree that it has any depth whatsoever.
I was out of gaming for most of the 2010s, so I knew none of the context with it. Absolutely adored it when I played it. It’s far from perfect, but the more I think about my time with it the more I love it.
Same here brother, I was out of touch with gaming in the 2010s as well. But this game got me back into gaming and made me by a playstation 5 for the royal edition.
So what I'm gaining from this comment in the row apply to it is that people who didn't realize what awesome games came out in the 2010s think FF15 is great.

@@SokiHime I mean I’ve gone back and played (or played when they came out) Mass Effect, Red Dead, Bioshock, Uncharted, etc. I just didn’t really follow gaming culture, and I didn’t really play any obscure titles. I have never been somebody who watches gaming trailers. I also played some of the greatest games ever, and Final Fantasy XV is a solid B+ game.

This is a game i feel like hit so many of us in the same way oddly. I remember it being a flawed experience but i also look back on it so fondly. A game never made me feel like i was on an adventure with my friends so well, and despite the story being thin and obviously incomplete the end still got me.
I don’t see it that why. I was very excited for the game before release and I defended it left and right when others could see the red flags leading up to release but I was in denial. Then it came out I buy the steel book deluxe edition only to be proved wrong and incredibly let down. It’s not a *bad game* but it it’s absolutely not a good FF game and certainly not one that warranted all the hype and insane amount of marketing they put behind it, something they obviously did bc they knew the game wasn’t going yo live up. Im sorry but when the first 4DLCs were BLATANTLY stories that very clearly belonged in the gaping holes in the story of the main game when your companions leave you, it’s just ridiculous. After it’s development hell they did the best they could, but that doesn’t mean it was good. It was passable.
For me it's in the same space as Fallout 76 or Mass Effect Andromeda. It's a purchase i regret and i really wish i could get that money back. That period from 2016 to 2018 had so many misses that i stopped pre-ordering games.
It was flawed but it punched us all right in the feels.
XV hit me in the feels pretty good. After high school, my friends and I took that road trip, then went our separate ways.
I remember grabbing this game off the shelf when I was 13 and buying it with my 2016 Christmas money, just because I thought the cover looked cool. I knew nothing about Final Fantasy. It ended up being one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've ever had. There were many tears at the end.
I always love revisting the boy band whenever I'm in need of some sweet nostalgia.

Final Fantasy XV isn't a perfect game, but it is absolutely a good game. Some if the points could be polished and filled out a little better but it's absolutely stunningly beautiful and what is there is a ton of fun to play. My biggest gripe is how the DLC feels too much like side stories and are kinda clunky in how they're attached to the main story.

Players back then knew the dlc was going to be those parts where the party members had to go/disappeared and that the devs would price gouge their playerbase for that section of the story. It was pretty cheap of them to do but I guess with nowadays the royal edition being so cheap it's definitely worth it now but it should've launched originally without cut content like that.

FF15 is way to overhated, despite it's flaws it's something very special, it has a epic soundtrack,, it's extremely beautyful and has alot of content and a world to get lost in, it's pretty emotional and it managed to be successful , sell 10 million copies meanwhile capture alot of new fans ❤
The only thing this game delivered on was the soundtrack. Honestly the game was doomed to the C tier when Namura got the boot off the project.

Good characters. Great graphics. AMAZING food details. Great story premise. Great OSTs and sound design overall. Driving around while listening to other FF tracks is very relaxing.
As said in the video, your comrades really do have a lot of personality and you feel like you're on a adventure with your friends.
You hunt, sleep in tents, hotels, you make your own food, you can go to restaurants, etc etc etc. All those mini-steps to do mundane things really adds to that feeling of "life". All that while sharing those moments with the crew. This game wants you to feel connected with them, and it does a good job.
The thrill of driving at night (that only lasts for the first 7 hours at best) was actually pretty good. The demons, monsters, not knowing what they are and where they come from, in this FF where it mostly have normal people not using magic at all and so on. But the games fails to work on the folklore. Monsters exists because they do, the player needs to slay something for XP so yeah that's it.
It kinda explains in the last chapters but it's so vague it's like it isn't there.
The main menu itself is superb, somnus playing there would always make me stop by to listen to it, always. And when you beat the game it even changes in a very clever way to show the actual "true main menu screen".
But the secondary missions...boring, Npcs are boring. The hunts are boring. Enemy AI is dumb, the robot-zombie like soldiers in this game are the most atrocious thing ever you'd have to fight. You see them everytime coming from a airship and it's never a good time. Just boring.
The big robots are cool tho.
They kinda tried to do a hunting system like in FF12 but didn't get the magic of what makes it work there. Which mostly falls into Npcs being likeable and the beast you're after actually being a challenge.
The combat only "shines" when you're doing late game dungeons. The difficulty spike is HUGE, there are many new monsters only available there. That makes me question if that was a wise decision. I only wish the whole game had that level of difficulty, you know? An actual challenge. Too bad it's only in the end you get to experiment with some kind of required strategy.
The combat is mostly ok with the four character swap but they really should have made an option to stick with one so you didn't need to swap every battle start. Sometimes you're fighting in an open area, goes too far and the battle stops, you go back to controlling Noctis and have to swap again just because.
At least the other playable characters are very fun. Prompto is a beast especially late game as he does so much AoE damage, ignis mops the floor with weak enemies using his elemental damage and Gladiolus does guarantee the success thanks to his parrys and punishments. It just needs to make the swap faster and more dynamic. But the core is there. Too bad they won't be touching it. Maybe modders..
In the end the game still is a brute diamond, everything is there, it's just not ready yet. The story will be forever incomplete/shallow, the combat sadly for now "is what it is" and the most unredeemable point is the npcs being so ..npc it takes away the consistent immersion the game could have.
Still a great game, i loved it until the end, the dlcs makes it much better, insomnia is fantastic in concept and whenever this gets a remake or remaster i will be excited to explore it in any way.
I just wanted to say I really love this channel. A lot of the games that I'm curious about knowing more about or that I'm staring at in my library end up getting talked about here in depth and your perspective is always complete and based on your own knowledge of each of these games. Keep it up! Might boot up XV for a bit before the new game hype takes over and FFXVI is all I play for the next few weeks
You can actually still access the comrades expansion, they allowed you to do all the missions offline. It's set in the time gap between Noct entering the crystal and the amazing camping scene. It actually fixes every issue that you had with Noctis' gameplay AND the magic system, it's literally how Noctis' should have played

First half of this game, pretty much the open world, was one of the most enjoyable and engrossing FF experiences I’ve had. And I’be played the majority of the series going back to the first as a kid.

A few straight forward tweaks to the story, camera mechanics, and the flow of the “acts” and this could have been an absolute masterpiece.
I couldn't even finish the game because the end game is fucking atrocious
I remember just running around the world listening to the music and fighting the hunts.
I love this game so much despite all of its flaws. I remember how tearful I was the first time I cleared the game because of the ending theme song, how the game wraps the story in the end, as well as how the game allows you to go down the memory lane of your adventures one last time through images captured by Prompto's camera.
I've been playing/ watching the XV series in chronological order and have been really enjoying it. Currently on chapter 9 right before getting on the boat. Enjoyed episode Gladiolus and looking forward to the other DLC. Also going to read the book that covers the canceled DLC after I finish.
This is a good game the only downside is the cancellation of the DLC. I knew there was a story that noctis and ardyn would team up to fight against the gods

In all honesty I personally feel like this is one of my favorite games of all time. I have a few gripes, but honestly I LOVED this game. I kinda grew up on Nintendo my whole life, and I knew Final Fantasy existed but didn’t know where to start when I got my PlayStation, and luckily they said could jump in with this game and I was blown away! I loved every minute of it and to me this is what Final Fantasy 7 is to a lot of Final Fantasy fans.
The characters honestly feel real just chilling with the boys and many others along the way that what sold me to this game a masterpiece in it's own way.

Played the Collector's Edition in 2021 by watching the Kingsglave movie and playing the game along with all the DLC. Had never played it before. Best video game experience in my life.

Pitioss Ruins, while obviously clunky, was far and away my favorite part of this game. I hope there’s a similar challenge in 16

I'm currently playing it for the third time. I really do love this game. It's one of my favorites. I enjoy all the side quests and the world, characters and even the battle system. Amazing soundtrack. It's a really good game. But I do pretty much everything possible until I have to continue with the story leading me to be way over leveled but I just truly enjoy fifteen.
I really enjoyed this ff just chilling hanging out with the boys. Riding around in the regalia . I had my Spotify connected to my ps4 and turned off music in game. when we rode around in the car it was to my favorite music which made it even better for me hahah . Also even with the dark kind of story it was very light hearted and fun at times even quirky. Getting the best foods. Going fishing . I liked it all.
I didn’t hate the game but sucked you needed to watch a movie and an anime and play dlc to fully enjoy story. Lol i wish they would have finished all the dlc episodes instead of Forspoken

I hope matty found out that noctis has multiple different combos he can do that's way more useful than just holding circle or B, because the combat system with noctis is way deeper than he let's on. Man you can really bring out your inner dmc player on XV if you try different things and understand it. Oh and trust me- you get something cool for unlocking all the Armiger weapons...
Ok im sold on redownloading so i can find out for myself & maybe see some more epic sh!t. I also dont think most people realize how deep, complex & fun the combat can be. Most people cant talk about it in its most current & complete form since only 28.6% have ever even finished the main storyline as of right now on ps4.
Yea some of the notes combat clips on UA-cam are gnarly, I get the accessibility part but they should have done some explaining for people who wanted more, cause it's there in spades

I only got about 3 hours into the game because the combat felt so stale. I may redownload and check out what this expanded combat turns out to be.
I started it in 2017 but due to some personal issues I couldn't finish it, 2 years later I started a new playthrough and I loved it, although I just did the main quest and killed the Adamantaimai, now I got it for my series s and I plan to do everything, I'm loving it
I loved this game so much. While the game has plenty of flaws, I am still able enjoy the game for what it is and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Still saddened that season 2 of DLC got cancelled.

The way it’s described in the book was I always torn. The ending of the base game is so shakespearian in its pathos, drama and just dropping with religious symbolism. If nothing else the ending was perfect.
The ending in the book…. Much more traditional. I would have loved to see it visually though.

One of my absolute favorite Final Fantasy titles! Due in large part to it's epic soundtrack. I wish that spells were more in line with previous titles though, and that summoning was purposeful instead of a random set of culminating elements.
Loved the characters, the way they talk a long the way, true friends. It also looks gorgeous and i like playing it at 60 fps on the ps5. Does make me sad that we miss a lot of the story, and it rushes it at the end. A lot from the trailers is missing too, but i still recommend the royal edition.
3 years ago, I played this game and DQ11 back-to-back, and that experience let me understand the difference between a really good game and a memorable game. When I thought about the individual parts of each game, DQ11 is the better one, but I would replay FF15 10 times before replaying DQ11. I remember the entire story, almost every character name and even some boss fights, while I have forgotten most of DQ11. FF15 is a better game than the sum of its parts, and its highs are unforgettable.
The emotional connection with the party, the interactions between them, going to different media to experience each part of the game, an amazing human villain, an epic last 2 hours... FF15 shows how you can be a very flawed game and still be an amazing experience. It's far from my fav FF, but it would be close to the top in how emotional and how ingrained some parts of the game are in my brain.
That's funny I thought the exact opposite, ff15 was fine but not memorable in the slightest, while DQ11 became one of my favorite games of all time, to each their own of course, it's interesting how we can perceive and experience the same things so differently gor each person

I hated dragon quest 11. I thought it was terrible and had the worst character in gaming... Sylvando. The walking nails on chalkboard. The combat was boring as hell. Progress is slow as hell. The final villain is stupid as hell. Where it didn't suck it was bland. What a bad game.
This was my first Final Fantasy game and I honestly loved it at the time. It’s made me want to go back and try all the previous ones too.
This was the first ff game I played. I loved it! Combat was good enough for it. I dont like turn based so this was the perfect introduction for me. The story was great I thought. Especially once I really dug into the lore of this world it Really captivated me. I spent about 130 hours into it and got the plat. I've been wanting to do another playthrough with all the royal edition content. Comrades is also pretty cool.
You're supposed to either tap the attack button to time your combos, or hold attacks while timing your weapon switching to create combos.

There was that and the directional stick changes up the strikes. The combat system had some depth to it but it needed some more tweaking. Still a solid game, one I platinumed in 2016 and played and finished again on PC last year. It'll always hold a special place in my heart
Maybe the game should have mechanics that actually encourage you to do so, the fact such mechanics exist but people barely even notice its a testament to the design flaws of the game, it shows that they were thrown in there yet they're barely useful for not to say completely unnecessary

I played the royal edition a few months back because it was on psplus. Gotta say I was underwhelmed. My friend who had already played the game said the dlc really adds to the game and there was some tie in stuff. But how dare a game give me homework to properly appreciate it! You had dozens of hours of my time to get it right and you blew it. It's one thing when dlc adds to the game, it's another for them to fill in holes that should have never been empty.
I remember playing the episode duscae demo and being blown away. Wish they would have kept the combat and some other elements from the demo.

Hey Matty! Been watching so many of your videos lately! Not only have they been lining up with what I’m playing but great videos time and time again. How do you find the time to game so much and produce so much content?!?
Final Fantasy XV was my first Final Fantasy game that I have ever played and I fell in love with it immediately. The story, characters, gameplay, music, and voice acting are just beyond amazing and memorable. I put in almost 100 hours of gameplay because I love going back to the world and playing as these characters who have a connection that cannot be beat. I really felt a personal connection with Prompto Argentum and his character, sense of humor and backstory. I also love that you mentioned the connection between Ray Chase (Noctis), Robbie Daymond (Prompto), and Max Mittelman because their friendship is something that I always love about them! The first time I met Robbie, I told him how much Prompto meant to me and he said that he's really glad that I was able to connect with him (I even cosplayed Prompto when I met him and Ray Chase and they both said that I looked awesome as Prompto!) So yeah, as you can tell, FFXV means a lot to me and will continue to be a part of me for the rest of my life! "Walk Tall, My Friends."

I'm weirded out too. Like, people say you can just hold down a button and one-shot kill everything, and that's absolutely untrue. The weakest foes could be killed quickly, but it took a lot of chain-combos to do big numbers on stronger enemies. Gamers can be such a strange crowd.

The only good thing about the game was the interactions between the 4 friends it felt like I was on a real journey with 4 friends. Everything else including the story and combat was awful and boring and the world felt empty and lifeless. It was also my first final fantasy game so i was really dissapointed

It had some epic music for sure. Did so much side stuff and grinding that I got to level 65 right before going on the boat... Bad stuttering though, and frequent crashing on the PC... Missed quite a few hours when it crashed while in a dungeon where I couldn't save. That sucked, happend more out in the open world though

@@MrSkullMerchant Most of the people that hate it were either people who were invested into the game's hype train during the time, someone that was negative regarding FF's new direction or someone that didn't played the Royal Edition.
But i will be honest here, XV it's a really you either love it or hate it game in general.... Personally i never played it but i searched a lot about it, and i really like the main cast and the music so i would probably enjoy It.
Something about this game made me play it 150+ hours straight to max myself out. I loved TF out of it for some reason. Combat and music was fun as hell 🔥🔥
I loved it when it launched and the updates just made it better. Still one of very few games that really got me in the feels. That credit sequence and the campfire seen get me every god damn time.
Playing chapter as of now. Bought this game at release, but didn't finish due to the game's issues. Many years after, I came in with a fresh mindset, and now I beat the game and currently loving the endgame content.
I was in a pretty dark place when this game came out, and i was all but isolated. This game basically saved me. Having a game where its basicallyt just 4 bros on a roadtrip was so incredibly nice, and it will always hold a special place in my heart
FF15 was actually my first Final Fantasy game so it will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart just as the four main characters will- but mostly Noctis. I absolutely loved his design and though his personality got on my nerves I got attached to his journey. I was spoiled the ending so I never finished it because I was so heartbroken over the unhappy ending they got. To this day I still have not finished it but played hours of just doing everything else.
As a game itself, obviously it has flaws, but I admit I am a bit biased because it’s my first ever Final Fantasy game so I quite like it. I thought it was really good because I did play it after experiencing many open world games that were just empty and bland af- so I wasn’t all that affected by it. The combat wasn’t anything ground breaking but it was entirely new to me so it took a bit of time for me to get used to. (The environments at least were pretty imo for the world)
Isn't it awesome that they all have character development? Even Gladio. I mean, Noctis goes through the ringer. Great storytelling, even if it wasn't as perfect as some expected.
@@knitsandgrits Honestly, yeah. The storytelling for the characters was like A++. They did so well in making them actually INTERESTING characters :) I like Prompto a lot alongside Noctis.

This game has such a charm to it. I'll never argue with anyone who says it's bad cause the flaws are glaring and numerous, but I truly enjoyed the time I spent with it; both playing through it when it released and coming back years later to complete the Royal Edition.

I remember playing this on Gamepass a few years ago and the only thing that kept me going was the gameplay. Then, the ending hit out of nowhere like a truck and for the first time in the game I actually felt something, just sadness and shock that the heroes didn’t get their happy ending. Never played the dlc, heard if helped the story a lot though.
I always love the Final Fantasy and JRPG coverage on this channel. You have some refreshing takes and it's nice to hear that FF15 isn't just "garbage" like a lot of people seem to say
Definitely in my top 10 game or all time maybe even 5, The characters and the story were so fascinating and the world is beautiful. Noctis looks like your typical edgelord but his sense of responsibility really made me live his character. The whole crews relationship is really inspiring as well
Played FFXV on xbox one when it first came out and it was amazing. Played it again when it came out on PC and was still amazing. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite games of all time.

This guy is very thorough and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially while tripping on some shrooms. Came here because I forgot all about Final Fantasy and remembered how much I loved Final Fantasy 7 after watching this Apex legends event video where Final Fantasy seven and Apex I guess are teaming up to make a new event game mode. Pretty stoked for that.
That Behemoth side quest was amazing. It had my hopes so high, then it all went downhill from there.

This was my first FF game and it’s my favorite!! I’ve never been into turned based combat so I ignored the series for so long. But the combat and open world of 15 had me interested, and thanks to it I have a whole new respect for the series. I’ve enjoyed 9, 12, and the remake of 7! Ignis will forever be my favorite FF character with Balthier from 12 as my second favorite.
This was my 12th FF game. The way it is now with the dlcs (also knowing that even the advertisments are cannon, omens from King Regis). This is easily one of my top 3 ff games.
Replaying it on Ps5. Amazing game. Heard people say the battle system feels "floaty". Rarely played such a direct, responsive combat system with so much weight behind your actions. Being able to switch to other party members was such a great addition. People say nonsense sometimes, truly.
As my first FF game I love 15 and the ending hits hard, but I honestly feel that FF16 is gonna be my FF, its everything ive dreamed of, I had to pre order that collectors edition, crazy how rare they are those editions
I did this last year in 2022 and it is very good. I very much enjoyed playing it through again and all it's DLC.
its average but in the realm of Final Fantasy, even the average games are not looked well upon when you have goliath sized siblings. its like getting upset because your parents are disappointed in you for having a standard 9-5 job while your older brother is CEO of a fortune 500 company. the real issue is the story, theres so much cut that it feels like a half measure.
I just finished it for the first time getting ready for FFXVI. I actually really liked it. Ardyn was a really good villain and I hated him the entire time. I really enjoyed the slice of life moments in the game. The campfires, the driving around on the open road with the bros, the playing cards in a random hotel room, it all culminated into me really feeling like I personally know these guys. I enjoyed the boss fights too, especially the boss fight with ifrit and ardyn.
Man, I had almost an identical experience, I really soured on XV. I loved it at first, but I just couldn't let go of Versus XIII and got super angry with having to pay for all the DLC. I love how positive this channel is.
The promotional crossover with Assassin’s Creed Origins is pretty cool, both games with trailers referencing each other (someone on the train reading a newspaper you can see the Assassin insignia on and the dog who carries the notebook Noct and Luna exchange in Ptolemaic Egypt), and Origins still having the tie in Final Fantasy XV mission available where two characters make a cameo appearance.
I played and beat this game, but I don't remember playing this game at all. It is so weird to watch the gameplay and not have any recollection of the story or gameplay aspects.
The open world, gameplay, and hunts are pretty much what stick out to me the most, but the grind is crazy to get too. The dungeons are decent to ooooof.

FF XV is a diamond in the rough. I absolutely love it despite its flaws and it has one of the best villains in the entire franchise.

It was easily my favorite part, and I honestly thought it was by far more fun than the main game, and was the play style I was wanting to see transfer over to the base game.
The way the Knights controlled with their weapons, being able to blend actual spells, and not chucking grenades, was amazingly fun, while you fought to retake the land back from the dark world

13 and 15, man these games really made me fall out of love with FF and had me thinking it was going to become a dead franchise. But FF7R and 16 have pulled me back and got me feeling optimistic again for FF. Not an MMO gamer, but hear 14 is killing it as well.
Yeah, 13 and 15 turned me off, but Remake and 16 are getting me hyped again.
Initially disliked FF13 and 15 my first playthrough.
Now 13 is just OK and 15 was great.
16's demo got me singing.
7 Remake is just as bad.. Nostalgia has people blinded.

The story when fleshed out is amazing.
To clarify, XV is hated for two reasons: 1) it was the first Final Fantasy that pivoted away from turn-based so lots of OG fans were upset with the new direction they were taking the series; and 2) probably the bigger reason, the game was released unfinished. Square tried to do right by fans with the Royal Edition/Royal DLC, but that wasn't enough to cover all the things that were still missing in the game. They tried to fill these gaps by releasing an awkward mesh of things from more DLC, a prequel book, an anime OVA series and several cheap mobile games, but unsurprisingly these efforts were moot. It's hard to get people to chase after all these little things because it is a lot of work, but also, it was too little too late and people had moved on. Square failed terribly in the end and had to cancel additional DLC that was promised, which was a huge disappointment to people who were still clinging onto the idea that the game would be improved. Thus, stands a game that will forever be incomplete and likely to be buried in the shadow of the series' future games and buried further by the greats that came before it--because why play XV when there's VII, X, XII, VII Remake, and soon XVI? It doesn't help that Square chose to show characterse pushing a car in a lot of its promo material for the game. Now it's being heavily memed for it in wake of XVI's release. What a legacy though because that's what people will probably remember the game for
It was unfinished, period.
I tried this game a month ago, played 12 hours of it. Many things hit me like a spark of genius, but I couldn't stand the gameplay cycle after a while. I've never felt like a game was actively wasting my time like this one did. And I found the combat acceptable and kinda promising at the start, some of the initial hours made me feel like "this could be extremely fun on a cool boss fight". But then I played what was supposed to be a cool boss fight and did not have any fun. That was the point when I gave up.
I have a PlayStation plus subscription for my PS5 and saw that FF15 Royal edition was a part of the catalogue and I downloaded it last night onto my console. I played for about 5-6 hours and I'm loving it so far, I can't believe it was released 7 years ago, the graphics look so fresh and the gameplay is addicting.
I write in a journal/diary as a hobby of mine to keep track of my life. I once wrote how this game is the "best flawed, and imperfect game" that I have ever played. I absolutely loved it despite its flaws and shortcomings. I love the main four friends. I loved the action and creature designs in the movie KingsGlaive. I love the openworld and how beautiful the sceneries are. And it's a shame it couldn't reach its full potential but regardless, this Final Fantasy has a special place in my heart.
