Thanks for the amazing review mate. This and including the 2 low light tests you made maybe the best comparison so far between the two action cams. I finally decided and going to buy the OA4 now.
Well, it's not so much a review, but more a comparison. I will review the Hero 12 by itself soon, as soon as I get some man hours filmed on it so I can talk from experience. Both are great choices, you'll be content.

This is the DJI Osmo Action 4 versus GoPro Hero 12 reviews channel that just keeps on giving! I watched each one since the unboxing of the GoPro DOA (intentionally disabled by firmware design of course) product that you bought in a back-alley somewhere, appreciate them all, but this bike one in the series is my fav. I am a fulltime car-free cyclist, have been for about 15 years, by choice, and I'm looking forward to mounting an Osmo Action 4 on my handlebar sometime soon. It'll be my first action cam and I see I can't go wrong with the DJI product. Thanks for your no-nonsense productions.
Thanks Barry, glad to hear that! The Action 4 is a solid action camera, you'll be very happy with it, it works great as you can see, and stabilisation on it is out of this world.
this confirms and reaffirms again and again. Honda and Toyota, bot have their pros/cons. One thing I noticed here is the DJI distortion is 'worse', it makes your head look like pinhead in WIDE mode. even std (dewwarp) has it to a degree. on a different rant... yesterday I was filming in tandem in 90F for 1.5 hours.... guess which one OVERHEATED killing 20 minutes of video and which one didn't...cough cough.
Yeah, the distortion on both of them can be a little crazy. Let's hope both these companies continue to improve battery life and overheating problems. There is so much power in such a tiny box, it's not surprising they can overheat, much like the ZV-E1.
Nice comparison. Honestly, if you add more sharpening and warm the temp up in the DJI it would be hard to tell them apart. I like the softer filmic look of the action 4 though.
Phillip, you're doing a great job! Thanks a lot for your videos. Found your channel on occasion and it's brilliant! Greetings from your neighbour! Belarus 😊
I’ve been watching the comparative and honestly I still can’t decided witch one I can buy… Just one question, if you crop the original 8x7 image to a vertical 9x16 did you still get a wider image then the action 4? Because apparently and 16x9 the Osmo look a little bit more wider but doesn’t have a 8x7 aspect option. That’s the only think holding me to buy a new camera. Thank you it would be nice if you can make the comparative in the next vide. New subscriber by the way.😊
Well, in actual fact the cropped 8:7 is even wider if you just film it by turning the camera sideways so it's vertical, so I'd recommend that if you can do that. In camera vertical crop is narrower than turning the camera sideways basically. Not only does the Osmo look wider, but it's also got a lot less distortion, something some people don't like on the Hero 12.
I think they have their moments, and it really depends on the lighting, I find they both tend to vibrate sometimes depending on what the light is doing. In general though, how far RockSteady 3.0 and HyperSmooth 6.0 have come is mindblowing.
Everything seems great about the Osmo 4, except how it looks. The footage just doesn't look that great. It looks about on par with my GoPro 9 (which I do still like). It's like they did everything right but forgot to make the image great. I don't know if that really matters as if making for UA-cam it's maybe irrelevant anyway as most don't watch in ideal environments and conditions etc
Considering the Gopro is running at 5.3k, I think the DJI overall is the better performer. The only difference I can see is a fraction more detail in the higher resolution. Can't see a difference in stabilisation, prefer the more natural colours of the DJI and... consider this.. without HDR running the Gopro quality takes a dive. I'll be sticking with my Action 3 for the time being tho, neither of these offer anything worth upgrading for.
Nice comparison, real and raw but the thing is that if Dji supports 4k60 persec. Then the GoPro must be 4k60 per sec.that would be real comparison...yeah it's good GoPro supports 5k which is still unnecessary for most of them outthere...❤ otherwise.all things are great. loved your comparison
Yes, both of these support 4k60, funny thing is I NEVER use 4k60, I film everything at 25fps unless I need some slowmo which I shoot in 120fps. The DJI also supports 4k120 though as well as the GoPro, so I end up using that and still keep the resolution in my timeline. Thank You!
