MLP G5 Finds Its Footing With Chapter Four!

- Finally got around to finishing the rest of Chapter Four of My Little Pony Generation 5, and unlike the more lackluster opening special, there was a lot more to enjoy with every new episode of the season :)

It's odd how it feels like our heroes are actually one step ahead of the villain for once.
That's because the villain in question makes even the laziest G4 villain seem like a well-rounded character and tactical genius by comparison

@@autumbreeze1129 Dude *almost* every villain in G4 were over and done with in 2 episodes in the beginning and end of each season. This is among the rare times there's been a villain in mlp that's actually sticking around long term. So comparing mostly short 2 part episode villains to a long term season's long villain makes no sense.
As an animator, my main thought was that the animation was definitely a step up from some of the earlier chapters. Not quite at the level of the film, like you said, but definitely competent with hardly any of the awkward stilted movements that cropped up from time to time in the first chapter. Hoping they can keep up the quality going forward!

I don't know if this is enough for me to call the show great, but it is nice to see it get better.
At the end of Chapter 4 it does not seem that Opaline yet realizes that Misty has gained her cutie mark. It is nice to see Misty becoming a more rounded character. Even Opaline could benefit from some actual character development.
After she gets her cutie mark Misty hides her mark from Opaline with her tail. Opaline as a result thinks she still has control of Misty as the alleged only pony capable of giving a cutie mark.
It will be interesting see Misty balance maintaining her cover, spying on Opaline for the Mane 5 and hanging out with her new friends.
Opaline did get a small bit of character development via the flashback of her origin showing her motivation is based on jealousy and an inferiority complex. While her character didn't change, this flashback does help us understand her better.
Given Opaline likes distorting the truth it would be interesting to find out Tia and Luna's side of the story via a lost journal or hologram like Twilight used as Tia and Luna acting superior to Opaline doesn't sound like something they'd do. Or perhaps treating her badly as kids is why Tia and Luna became benevolent rulers as adults?
@@PlebNC Well... Celestia was the one who didn't notice her sister was being ignored by ponies of Equestria, while she was getting all of their attention. Young Celestia and Luna were more imperfect than they currently are, as they have done some learning and growing over centuries. It's possible that acting superior to Opaline actually happened.
That was my take. Opaline doesn't know that Misty has turned on her. She doesn't know Misty has her cutie mark nor that she can use magic now. Misty both hid her cutie mark with her tail when talking to Opaline and she reverted to moving stuff manually when she was cleaning up in Opaline's presence. Opaline, I think is keeping Misty around because she likes having a loyal (she thinks) servant to do her bidding. And so that Sunny & Company have a spy on the inside.
I am fascinated by the fact that Opaline's backstory more or less confirms that NONE of the G4 alicorns have died of old age (which was something I wasn't sure about since I saw conflicting reports on whether alicorns were considered immortal, or were still mortal, but just lived to insanely old ages). This means IF any or all of them died, it had to be from something other than old age, maybe trying to stop Opaline?... and if they are NOT dead, they are somewhere, but WHERE?!
Kinda hope they explore this bit in future, but at the same time, I am really nervouscited about how that would be tackled, if it does get tackled.
I'm interested in the fact that she is the Alicorn of something more offensive rather than a Celestial Body or an Abstract Concept. Though I'm confused by her calling herself A Fire Alicorn rather than THE Fire Alicorn. Implying there are multiple Alicorns that can represent the same thing.

That would raise the uncomfortable question of where they've been and why they haven't been able to do anything about Opaline.

We stan Misty and seeing where things will go as she remains secret friends with the others while spying on Opaline is bound to be fun and tense.

I give chapter 4, 7/10. I mean will admit that it wasn't "better" but it was definitely an improvement compared to the first 3 chapters. The G5 writers finally decided to get to the interesting stuff, And now that Misty is has secretly teamed up with the Mane 5 i'm certain that she'll pretend to work for Opaline but she will be a spy for the Mane 5.
I'm quite enthused to see what they do next with misty and how they handle her character from here!

Even though it took three chapters it's really awesome see that things are getting interesting, it might not get up to the best quality as G4 but I think I'll be something special. Love for MLP kinda dropped for me but I still have a soft spot for it and I'm really happy to know that people are still supporting it💙
I really did enjoy Chapter 4, the show is improving in story and animation. I love the moments with Queen Haven and Alphabittle. Seeing Misty hang out with the Mane Five at the ball, and save them from Opaline in the end, get her cutie mark and join them as an ally at the very end. I look forward to seeing where they will go with all this in Chapter 5.
Maybe after Opaline's defeat, they will show the next villain in some future chapters.
@@bencaldwell3186 Maybe, we can only hope. If they do that, then the show and world would continue to expand. But who knows for sure if that will happen. Maybe it will, maybe it won't.
I love chapter 4 so much!! As an animator the quality has improved significantly. The dance moves are my favourite. The visuals are stunning. I particularly love the lighting which always makes a scene pop. Good lighting goes along way in a making every 10x better.
The story has progressed along with character progression. I do wonder what happens in Chapter 5. So exciting.🎉

All we are saying, is give G5 a chance!
None of the characters i cared about in g4.
With the exception of the first special I did like the previous chapters. Though chapter four has really elevated the series.
The last scene in the finale really intrigued me with the possibilities of seeing more dragons in New Equestria.
I personally hope there could be a chance we can see Spike again, who I can imagine is now an even bigger but more older dragon.

And think of the things Sunny and her friends can learn about Princess Twilight and her friends. The stories and the wisdom Spike could share with the Mane 5, possibly the new Mane 6 now since Misty is joining them to stop Opaline.

After finally finishing Chapter 4, myself, this bubble pone is impressed with how much steam ‘Make Your Mark’ is building up. I mean, even if it’s still lightyears away from living up to the hype of G4, what’s currently happening in G5 and what’s to come in the next chapter of ‘MYM’ is already leaving me excited for everything else coming up! I’m especially impressed with how the writers and producers were able to raise the stakes, execute the overarching story in between each episode, and wrap everything in Chapter Four up in a neat, little, brown package tied up with strings. (Pretty much one of my favorite things… 😅 I’ll see myself out. 😔)
Seriously, though, what they’re setting up for the next chapter is leaving me stoked for at least a sneak peek of where Opaline plans to search for the dragons of Equestria. I mean, are they still in the same location as they were before, or did they move and forge a new colony in the last thousands of moons? And, most of all, are they still able to speak as properly as they did in ‘FiM,’ or have they learned a new language or way of communicating with one another, e.g. How to Train Your Dragon?
As for Misty, now that she’s finally got her Cutie Mark and is official friends with the Mane Five, how long will she be able to keep up her façade of remaining loyal to Opaline before they’re finally ready to defeat the fire alicorn in question? And if they do, what other challenges will they face to ensure Equestria’s future remains a bright one?
Sorry to overwhelm you with all these questions, but now that this new generation is finding its voice, the wait for what comes next is starting to drive me crazy!!!!
So we can expect the dragons to return next chapter right and possibly Spike?

Izzy becoming more like Pinkie Pie is something most people have a gripe with. How she acted in the movie was what they liked.
As for Misty getting her mark but still staying, I believe the plan is that she's gonna be a double agent... wait, she was one when she was in on the group trying to steal from them... Tripple agent? You'll probably notice some small details when she's with Opaline, like she now covers her mark and if she was using magic quickly stops that and does things by hoof.
The Manesquerade Ball was a fun one. And that Unitity dance number was boppin!
I think that a one point that opaline did only consider misty as a pawn/tool but now misty has grown on her maybe like a celestia and twilight bond sorta like mother and daughter atleast thats what i see

I think what REALLY helped FiM catch on is that is had a consistent release schedule.
It'll be very interesting to see if we're going to be in the Dragonlands soon, provided if we do get to see our old G4 characters like Spike and others to be seen there, all grown up big and strong, it'll be curious if anyone would see Sparky as their missing son. Twilight's passing also may reach to Spike as well, not only he's grown too big for Canterlot, but also as a duty to be the spouse of Ember or Smolder when he returns home.
I hope if Spike shows up, he doesn't end up being fodder for Opaline

@@javierfebronio8907 I imagine he'd be a massive elder dragon like Ember's father. I'd have no issue with Sparky being Spike's kid. Would explain his instinctive kind-hearted nature compared to how dragons usually act. Although his colour is closer to Ember's so I guess the dragon shippers implicitly got their wish, lol.

I loved Misty's growth and Opaline revealing her own backstory where she knew Celestia and Luna as fillies. And hope we get to hear more about what happened to her todisappear for thousands of years during gen 4's time before deciding to start causing trouble for the pony tribes. And it'll be nice seeing dragons return and hope they're as sentient as the dragons of G4, and hoping some like Spike are still alive since they have lifespans comparable to alicorns.

I would like to hear Princess Celestia and Luna's side of the story if they do return in the next MLP: Make Your Mark Chapter because I'm getting a feelings that Opaline wasn't telling the whole truth about her past. I mean the way she discribe her backstory to Misty she looks bitterly jealous and angry as for Misty at the end of this episode I'm hoping that she had left Opaline's castle for good now that she finally got her cutie mark at last and join the 5 maines into help them to defeat Opaline once and for all.
But did twilight sparkle knows about celestia and Luna friend?

I know none of us are made of time but, if you want to keep up with G5's lore and character development, I'd highly recommend following Tell Your Tell along with Make Your Mark. While G5 hasn't wowed me over all, one thing they've gotten right is coordinating things between the two media such that major story beats that show up in one are reflected in the other. The Marestream, for example, premiered in TYT. The brief explanation/flashback we got in MYM was basically a synopsis of that TYT episode.
That IS the hope. I was wondering whether this series was worth my time, but the latest episodes do give me hope.
I honestly really really enjoyed this chapter!! The other ones have been good of course but this one really stands out in quality to me! Great review as always!
A Little Horse - obvious pun is obvious, and felt like a remake of when Rainbow was in bed with a broken wing. Minus the whole "stealing the Daring Do book to read in secret" thing. Oh! It would have been soo cool if that had been the book series Zipp wanted her to read! What a call-back that would have been!
I'm happy that many fans are enjoying more this new chapter.
I thought Bridlewoodstock was the only new thing, so I was pleasantly surprised that there were a handful of new episodes to go along with it.
I was even more surprised that they were...good. Not just cute and wholesome good like the rest of G5 has been, but actually good.
Though I can't shake the feeling that the improvement in writing is the result of the show staff...not being afraid of losing the license? Like, okay, hear me out: There were some behind the scenes recordings and bloopers of FIM's later seasons that made the rounds after the series finale, and one of the lines was the VAs for Celestia and Luna asking about how the screams of pain should sound when Cozy uses Grogar's Bell to steal their magic. The director responded "Yeah make it scary. What are they gonna do, cancel the show?"
That's the kind of vibe I got from Chapter 4 -- the show staff are feeling a little more confident, but I can't shake the feeling it might be because they've already gotten word from Hasbro that the reboot isn't performing very well so they've pulled the plug and Netflix has two more seasons to work with to wrap things up.
I hope that's not the case, but considering the other information floating around about how the merchandise is under-performing, I wouldn't put it past Hasbro to panic and cancel the reboot before it really comes in to its own.
In my school vr game, there's some update. first off queen, Chrysalis voice actor, is now for apexa second opaline got herself supercharged from Goalius ultra aura via a accident (during the fight Goalius was in against both the Gundam arieal rebuild which on "autopilot" and airazor from the new transformers movie rise of the beast opaline got to close to Goalius while he was heavily injured and missing a arm) and finally alicorn city is confirmed and holy cow is it bright

Sprout’s back and maybe future villain arc. Alphabittle x Haven cute but kinda cringy romance! Misty being a double agent.
Chapter 4 gets a very high 9/10 from me. The vast majority of the episodes were REALLY OUTSTANDING, the songs were all bangers, and there were definitely moments in every episode that stood out, even the less-than-stellar ones like Jinxie Games and A Little Horse, which was sort of a callback to a previous Tell Your Tale episode. But far and away I am so FREAKING PROUD of Misty. I mean, I knew at some point that she was going to "make the move", so it was simply the level of anticipation that kept increasing until it finally happened. Her internal struggle in her mind on which side to choose - good or evil - was just scintillating to watch, and I was rooting for her much like I was rooting for Starlight Glimmer's reformation. She has quickly grown on me and become my 2nd-favorite G5 character right behind Zipp. But let's remember that Opaline a] doesn't know that she got her mark yet, so that might be why she still wants her to stay because she won't find her entirely useless; and b] Misty has NOT betrayed Opaline in front of her yet without Opaline actually realizing it. Some things to think about before the next chapter!
I not sure how much Opaline's story holds up since there was a time that the mane 5 heard one story but misty heard a completely different version of that tale when talking about twilight and how the magic was divided up. Often times I think Opaline make herself be the victim in stories so Misty feels like she should be helping her. Its too bad we never actually get to hear what the pages would've mentioned from that alicorn book, maybe they'll bring it back up again sometimes? Though that sounds like a Misty and Zipp episode if they do.
Good point about Opaline being an unreliable narrator especially towards Misty! I think as viewers we too often take whatever is told at face value, when the writers might actually be playing the long game with a twist to come later.
I will say the final episode of Chapter 4 did raise a lot of questions. For one thing, we really need an explanation on how Misty actually caught Sparky; it literally just started out of the blue with no explanation. Also, while it was predictable that the Mane 5 would find out about Opaline and that Misty was working for her all along and that she would eventually side with them, is she officially the sixth member now, or is she still working for Opaline? I honestly thought that when she got her cutie mark, she would finally tell Opaline off and leave her to join the Mane 5 for good. Also, it looks like those spoilers about her mane and tail changing color proved to be false all along.

I agree with you. It’s definitely getting better. G4 will forever be the best, but this is showing signs of improvement. Plus, the season finale was just fantastic and definitely the best episode of the show so far.
Also, isn’t it hilarious that we got two projects from Hasbro properties that turned out to be really good in my opinion. This and Transformers Rise of the Beasts.
Well one thing left out is that Misty is now joining the Mane 5. To help them defeat Opaline. More epic was the battle between Opaline and Sunny. And Sunny did rather well against Opaline first round that is. And it won't be the last time Sunny battling Opaline like that either. If Sunny had a Princess Title as an Alicorn it would be Unity since she united the three pony tribes. And she did brought back magic to Equestria. Or the new Princess of Friendship. Princess of Harmony also works.
I think Princess Sunny Starscout is the Element of Magic, because just like Princess Twilight Sparkle, she is the new leader of the new Mane Six and she is the new Monarch of all Equestria, that is, she is the new Princess Ruler of all Equestria, while Princess Zipp Storm is the Element of Loyalty, because like Rainbow Dash, she is the most rebellious and the most athletic member of the team, Princess Pipp Petals is the Element of Generosity, because like Rarity, she is the most elegant and the most beautiful member of the team, Izzy Moonbow is the Element of Laughter, because like Pinkie Pie, she is the most cheerful and the most funniest member of the team, Misty Brightdawn is the Element of Kindness, because like Fluttershy, she is the most shyest and the most kindest member of the team, and Hitch Trailblazer is the Element of Honesty, because like Applejack, he is the most honest and the most responsible member of the team.
Episode 4 does display filly celestia and Luna in opaline’s backstory and she does mention about them using the words sun and moon but with the way cutiemarks r displayed now we will never know if it’s truly them and it mentions a place we never heard about before since G4 and that’s skyros
I like how Misty is trying to keep the fact that she has a cutie mark a secret from Opaline and also dumbfounded that Opaline might actually be very close to the same age range as Celestia and Luna.
I really enjoyed it too, and agree that this chapter found more of its footing!

Chapter four had lots more interesting locations as well and not just being stuck to a few places in Maretime Bay and Opaline’s castle

Chapter 4 was the best group of episodes so far, Bridlewoodstock was 'meh' of a special but these episodes had me going back to watch a few of them over again.
I definitely think ch 4 is better than its predecessors. I enjoyed every episode, when previously some of them moments of g5 were kinda cheesy and seemed like half-hearted writing. I’m very exited to see what happens next with Opaline and the dragons.
Missing the Mark - OH MAN! Heavey Mighty Morphin Power Rangers influence here! Opaline had always looked a bit like Rita, and Twilight had taken on a Zordon-esk role with the hologram, but Misty gaining her cutie mark and switching sides, and Sparky the dragon being drained of his magic, "magic candle", anyone? I was kinda hoping Misty would join the Mane 5 in the end, but that doesn't feel permanent.
Doesn’t seem like Opaline noticed Misty cutie mark wasn’t really expecting her to stay with Opaline though thought she would finally leave that place for good and be with the ponies who are nice to her but if Opaline doesn’t know about Misty reformation then that could be used to there Advantage hopefully will see more dragons soon wonder how powerful Opaline could be with an adult fire since Sparky just a baby after all 🦄🐲
Misty and Pipp have become my new absolute favorites when I used to be skeptical of both, I feel like they have the best personalities now and that Sunny has kinda gone down in being interesting and is even a little annoying and repetitive which is unfortunate cause she used to be my favorite. Misty also feels a lot more like a main character than Sunny did during this season and unless they are rotating main characters per season it's a bit strange to me that Sunny has had very little focus or the focus she has is kinda the same type of problem over and over. But despite everything it did really feel like it's getting better and that the episodes were even drawn out more than before. I can't wait to see where it goes next, and although I fear for the dragon designs we may get I am very excited for the dragons :D

As debated by many when flurry heart was born, I think alicorn-hood is something that needs to be earned. I'm assuming that skyross is just a place that vanished over time due to deterioration etc but was similar to the G4 Equestria. It just so happened that alicorns were more common in young ponies. In the play, fluttershy dressed as celestia, was already an alicorn upon arriving to Equestria. They probably moved there after the collapse of their home.
I'm guessing that opaline knew she can't defeat celestia and luna together so she decided to wait for twilight's friends to die before striking. Like every other power hungry villain, she wanted to take all the magic for herself but Twilight would rather she has none of it, hence creating the stones. I suppose there already was a rift between the tribes but opaline just made it worse.
Not quite done yet, but I think I agree. Improving, but still a way to go before catching up with G4.
I'm excited for more Alicorn lore, I'm kinda hoping we get more of it and possibly learn more about Celestia and Luna's backstories.

If you want to like G5 you’ve got to watch the shorts. They’re actually really cute, give A LOT more characterization to the ponies, and fill in the gaps that Make Your Mark leaves out.
Honestly, go watch the shorts. They’ll grow on you.
And are better written. One of the things that gets me about TyT is that it has so many things I dislike, yet manages to be fun to watch, well animated, and overall I look forward to them. Whereas MyM has been dreadful up until now. I'm not expecting Ch5 to be "awesome" but I'm at least interested in seeing what comes now rather than dreading it piling on the blah~ Though I wished they would fill the episodes better MyM has 5~10min shorts worth of story that's being stretched to 22mins with the worst kinds of filler.

Top Remodel was... okay. Cute callback to the movie. And we got to see Camander Fire-, uh, I mean - Sprout, again. Kinda been M.I.A. lately. And Sunny's reaction to seeing and throwing out that portrait gave me a chuckle. Kinda felt like she was throwing out a swastika, given the context.
Honestly when i was watching i made multiple comments out loud. While i was alone. But the statements where stuff like "these ponies got fuckin mincraft inventorys" when people would put stuff away and it would dissapear. And when zip figured out most of opalines plan i literaly said "she is fuckin matpat"
I really did like Chapter 4, and I think it was a step up. I do like the finale, and I thought it was really good. When I was watching the finale, I notice the chest from Friendship is Magic and I have a theory that it might play a part in Secrets of Starlight. I know Opaline is going to look for more dragons could we see Spike in the Next Chapter?

Opaline doesn't know that Misty has her cutie mark. She keeps hiding it from Opaline with the whole "taking cutie marks away" deal of Opaline's.
BridlewoodStock was an obvious play on the 60s protests rally "Woodstock", which made absolutely no sense given the context of the original.

All though ppl say they didn't need to rewatch episodes i did and I'm surprised no one found this a kid in the S10 talked about a book about the tree of harmony the cover showed the same tree as the one they passed in the movie check it out sometime it's worth it
I enjoyed chapter 4 a LOT more than what came before, but I still didn't really feel anything close to how excited and connected I was to G4. I think it all comes down to MYM's tone and writing... it's all rather babyish to me. And that's not exactly a problem, but it's just not for me I suppose.
Granted, G5 seems to finally be getting actual stakes and plot direction which is a good sign, and it's enough to make me stick around and keep giving the show a chance for now!
What I liked:
- Sprout's appearance
- Pipp being obsessed with spooky things
- Haven & Alphabittle's relationship
- Misty & Zipp's scene in the library
- the battle between Opaline & Sunny
- the soup cart guy (he was funny)
What I didn't like:
Opaline being alive when Celestia and Luna were fillies. Whyyy then would Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Flurry, and Twilight be absent (presumed dead) if Opaline is still around?
I do like that Celestia and Luna made an appearance, but not the context because as always with the references to G4, it raises more questions than it answers.
If all the alicorns make an appearance in the modern G5, of course this problem will be solved. EXCEPT not really because why would ALL of them just sit back and let the pony races remain divided in chaos?
This is a valid point. If she was the same age, then what happened to Celestia and Luna? If opaline is still alive, then surely they still are too right?
@LightningGear 01 exactly! And then there's all the YOUNGER alicorns (Cadence, Twilight, Flurry Heart) that should definitely still be around if freaking Opaline is!
This show makes my head hurt from trying to make it make sense, lol. I honestly think some of the writers maybe don't bother to do their homework on G4, so there's probably always going to be a LOT of holes in the lore.
I really hope it just turns out that Opaline has all the alicorns trapped in her dungeon for a thousand years or something, and she's just never said anything.

@LightningGear 01 Discord appears in the G5 comics apparently. I haven't bothered to read it on account of being butthurt they didn't save something as cool as that for the actual show 😅
That's kind of my feelings on the MLP comics for G4 too, to a lesser degree. So many cool stories that I'm sad weren't animated lol!

With what Opaline said about Celestia and Luna, I’m willing to bet it was all a lie, or at least not the whole truth. If Celestia and Luna were truly ignoring Opaline, they must have had a legit good reason for doing so. I’m willing to bet Opaline was just as power hungry as a filly.

Probably the dynamic between Misty and Opaline will be lost when we find the dragon Opanile teased at the end of the chapter
Sunny doesn't have anything to make her develop. She's still the same as she was, just is more used to having hardlight alicorn features.
Considering the lack of change with Sunny and the focus on Misty, perhaps that's the writer's intent. Sunny peaked early, so G5 isn't intended to be about Sunny, but about Misty. Maybe Sunny will be more of the mentor figure. It could also be like how Twilight became a mentor for Starlight.
I like it more than the previous episodes of the series.

i absolutely love chapter 4, i just really hope the fandom keeps this energy up though bc like... there is a writers' strike going on and it could be long. i'm very excited about chapter 5 already but until the other side is willing to come to the table with the wga no writing is happening so like,, we have to keep up the hype around g5 but also have patience.
But the question is how will chapter 5 be good? And when it will release already?
@@ronaldpagar6513 as i literally just said, we need to be patient. writers care about their jobs and making a story good, but a story can only be good if the writers are involved throughout the process and being paid enough to survive. nowadays they've been treating writing like a gig job and if it stays that way of course the writing is going to be bad and soulless. the strike can end any time when the executives are willing to come to the table. until that happens we need to support the writers and be patient, watch and rewatch chapter 4, look into mlp toys if that's your thing, and keep the hype up so netflix and hasbro know that people still care about mlp so it can power through however long this will take and even have a chance to have a chapter 5.

The Jinxie Games... hard pass on rewatching! Firstly, I felt Hitch's pain with the games, but I also realized that, if it were me, I would have just given up trying! I mean, some random in the stands won a trophy?! And that elderly pony won one just because she was promised one last time? Hitch was robbed soooo many times!
Although, it was rather cute how they showed two adults dating and the princesses' reactions to it.
Also, are the unicorns still scared of magic, or aren't they?! I know it's sometimes had to break habits (and the mayonnaise thing was never explained), but come on!
Chapter 4 felt intsense for me compare to the preveious chapters. This one everyone felt pretty serious especially at the last episode but i liked it. I am happy Misty made the right choice and the the rest had good facial expression. The songs were good and the animation was better.
