Metallica did two sets of "S&M" concerts. The original set was back in 1999, and then S&M2 was in 2019. No Leaf Clover was one of two songs written specifically for the first S&M concerts, and they brought it back for S&M2. They've also played it occasionally out on tour when it's just the band, but it's definitely best with the symphony. If you ever get a chance to watch the full S&M concert videos, they're incredible.
I missed S&M and kicked myself for 20 years until I went to S&M2. Great show, but I still kick myself because S&M was probably the better show from the video I've seen and the albums released.
@@CheesyLameDuck I lucked out. I wasn't going to go but my friend convinced me to go. I couldn't believe how truly amazing it was. Never expected it to be that good. Plus I only paid $40.00 for the ticket. Thanks for the comment 👍 😀
@@CheesyLameDuck The first concert was also heavily edited with all sort of things, they didn't do that here, unless someone was there at the first one, no one else know what it was like.
It's interesting to me that even people who don't think they're metal fans start head-banging after they listen for a while. It must be a natural human reaction to the beat.
Metallica is a legend, known all over the world. The Mongolian metal band The Hu did a cover of "Sad But True". They mix traditional Mongolian instruments with Classic metal instruments.
Mongolians drink German beer from their German-made breweries in Ulaanbaatar :); Metallica is a legend. 40 years of music. 40 years of being capable to adapt and write interestingly enough so they can get a 40 years celebration concert; even having a profane hatchling such as Rosalie (chosen this appellative based on her claims of only knowing a few of Metallica's works) commenting about the still wet ink on their birth certificate with such passion ... speaks volume.
S&M was one of the most under the radar Albums ever and my favorite song on the album.. I'm really enjoying your reactions Rosalie. Keep up the great work.
Your mouth was wide open the whole time love this with the strings it's powerful it fit perfect with the symphony keep rocking been around for 40 years and still going that's why they are the biggest band in world
I have this concert on DVD and just watched it again last night. It is a great concert, and I truly believe that heavy metal and symphony were made for each other. Great reaction!
"No Leaf Clover" was a song written FOR THIS Event. It was not a song that the symphony helped cover of one of their previous songs. It was written for an original composition with the symphony.
My favorite song from that concert are All Within My Hands, it's just so powerful in all the right ways, I was definetely surprised when I heard that one.
I listened to Metallica growing up, but when the original S&M came out that became my favorite version of all their songs. The 2019 show is very solid, I feel the 1999 version is a bit tighter and the sound engineering is over all better.
When they played this concert live you could watch it live in any cinema all over the world. I am from the Netherlands and I watched it live in a cinema... one of the first bands to have done this. Big fan
I love when he sings “then it 🎈COMES 🎈to be.” I think it’s genius how James goes really high on the word “comes.” It sounds off key on that word, which makes it sound so cool. Reminds me when Peter Brady on the Brady Bunch is singing with his brothers and sisters, but his voice cracks, because his voice is changing with his age. “Then it ⬆️comes⬆️ to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel.”
It's in key. It's a Bb, the same note when Layne Staley sings "Feeeeeeeeeeeeed..." in the chorus of "Man in the Box". Originally, he jumped into falsetto for it, but with his new-and-improved post-Coof voice, he can stay in chest voice for it.
Thanks for being a watcher who lets the vid play! Been a 'tallica fan for 27 years now and I started tearing up a minute in, a band that speaks on so many levels! Gonna check some more of your vids out now good luck with the channel 🤘
This song has only been played live - it was never recorded or released as a studio album track It was originally written and peformed for the first S&M concert in 1999. The version you are listening to now is from the S&M2 performance - 20th Anniversay of the original.
It was originally written for use with this symphony - arranged etc specifically in unison. BUT knowing Metallica and the time in which this song was written, it could very easily depict struggling with sobriety.
You should react to Metallica Harvester of sorrow, Moscow 1991. They were in their prime and the crowd, consisting of a million people was going crazy .
As someone who listened to the song straight for 2 months, im so happy to see this. What was it.. 98 -99? I just came home from the bar, pretty pissed and i wanted to listen to something old. I search for this song, i see it, but i see your video just below. Im thinking.. oh ok, yet another reaction vid, but lets give it a go. The looks on your face, the.. uhm.. everything after that, just makes me wanna say: If this was really your first listen, do it again. Aand again. And so on.
After their first S&M Concert in 1999, Metallica said this was some of the most difficult things they have tried. Because usual they can improvise a bit during the Concert but when you have an Orchestra with you, that suddenly becomes a lot more difficult and you need to be more diciplined than you would normally be at a Concert.
*"Hero Of The Day" is one of my favourite MetallicA tracks EVER and the "S&M" - version is as good as the original studio version from "LOAD".* 🎵🔥🔥🎵🎸🥁🎸🎵🔥🔥🎵

The S&M concerts are amazing. This is one of the better songs because it was written specifically to be played with the orchestra. However, their songs are so well-written, that it's easy to weave the orchestral music into so many of their songs.
