  • We are upgrading our Frontier OS35 with a log winching system. This system allows me to load large logs on our sawmill and turn oversized logs without hurting myself.

    I spit my coffee when the log broke free and took a run for it. 😂 That looks like a great solution though. I don't have a big enough tractor to load big logs. I could use that system.

    I have an lm29 with this loading system and changed the hand winch to an inexpensive Harbor freight 3500lb electric winch, real game changer
    1 Can load a 24 inch log easily.

      You are the second person that said that. You have me thinking. I have a nice winch that I didn't use on my old atv.

    • @stevencroon
      @stevencroon 10 місяців тому +1

      Oh you will like it, saves the back cranking on that hand winch. You do have to watch the balance of the log so it doesn't come up the ramp crooked but that can be easily adjusted with a cant hook Any old battery will load quite a few logs on a charge. I used an RV electrical hook up cable so I could disconnect the winch and take the battery inside when not in use. You will develop your own tricks after you saw a couple hundred logs. Have fun, make something cool.@@TonysTractorAdventure

    Lisa and I laughed as you asked us to, my friend! But really, it was another great video, and it looks like this could be a great tool for you all to get some big log on that mill! Keep making great videos, and I talk to you later, buddy! Donald

    Tony, you're right. Without a tractor you have to have this system. I built this exact system with an electric winch when I first got the mill. Still use it occasionally when my tractor gets maxed out by a log. Parbuckling always works.

      @TonysTractorAdventure  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes sir! I have a big Tulip Poplar that my tractor can hardly get off the ground. I will try the winch system.

    Awesome stuff, as always 👏 looks like a great upgrade. A little support under the main lift support would help it be more steady and tie it down, mite flex too much, and bend your bunk but definitely make the job much easier if you have no equipment. And I love that the videos are true and you guys don't cut out the bad, lol 😊

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  10 місяців тому +1

      Absolutely! I have to show the good and the bad. I like to show the good in bad also. It can always be worse. I think I will tweak it a little after a couple logs.

  • @SabineRiverValley

    I bet you could Fast2K a pipe in the ground off of the side of your mill and mount that there, so that you could leave it connected semi-permeantly. Then I'd work on getting a cordless drill connected to that crank.

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  10 місяців тому

      I have absolutely thought about doing it. I am think hard on taking the big plunge on the hydraulic upgrade for this unit. Have you saw the upgrade kit?

    • @SabineRiverValley
      @SabineRiverValley 10 місяців тому +1

      Oh yeah. I know a few people with Wood-Mizer mills who have the full hydraulic setup. See, that's what Frontier did to you... they let you get a feel for getting that log up there easily, but still left it just enough frustrating that you start seriously considering the hydraulic upgrade.🤣 Sneaky sneaky!

    If You ever find that a log slips from side to side from the cable not being in the balance point.
    I can describe a mod that I did for My log bunk..

  • @Bodhranarama
    @Bodhranarama 10 місяців тому +1

    Hi Tony. Use a simple climbing 'biner and it won't slip off until you want it to.

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  10 місяців тому +1

      I really like that. I just bought a grade eight bolt and a length of big chain to hook into. I didn't like how the cable kinked at the last.

  • @smisky1086
    @smisky1086 10 місяців тому

    you tried to put the bolt thru the double-wide bunk which spans 2 track sections, it would (probably) work on the mid-track bunks which are not as wide...

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  10 місяців тому

      That is not the case with this sawmill. All the bunks are exactly the same.

    For a mill that’s staying in the same place, do you think a 6x6 post in the ground with a bag of concrete and a harbor freight hand crank winch could do just as well? Saving my pennies but don’t want to waste time and money.

    I have the os31 right now my backhoe is down i was thinking about making this purchase but its like $700 with taxes they get you not including the loading ramps with the winch system i think the ramps would be easly made out of some tubing not much there for almost $500 just for the ramps for the cost i think i could make this myself everything needed would be around $700 i have everything needed already or probably use a set of four wheeler ramps or maybe a 6x6 post with pieces of angle attached to bottom to hold into the rail with safety chains and buy a four wheeler winch with a wireless remote control like on my mule would be my only expense i like tge idea one guy said about mounting the winch off to the side ontop of a good pole or maybe even to the barn post lag it in with some long bolts. Any way thanks for the video

      Shipping is a cost too. I recommend getting everything at once to new sawyers. That saves on shipping. My tractor is down too. I pulled a small log up with a side by side.

    Tony. DO NOT OVER LOAD IT. I broke mine because I was overdoing it on log size. But it worked great while it lasted.

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  10 місяців тому

      You are right, but some of the logs are too big for my tractor to lift. This new sawmill will cut a 30" log

  • @CFAinNoVA
    @CFAinNoVA 10 місяців тому

    If you used the tractor and grapple to place the log at the base of the rail system why not just pick it up and place it on the rail? I see not point in the winch. You need a tractor any way.
