Got some new filters today and I’ll try thinning out a little more, tip is new so can’t blame that Cheers bud, your proper down to earth and know what it’s like on site Thanks
Hi Colin.Just curious ,how many coats of primer you don the frames? and why do you thin macpherson with water? does it give u a better finish? Please advise. Many thanks
I give the frames on primed mdf 2 coats, and I thin the primer undercoat because I personally believe it sprays better through your machine .if you look on most cans of paint they do recommend the amount you should thin it down to depending on what type of spray machine your using
Hello mate I've had to respond to your last question this way I just can't find your questions on the feed. What I do is double prime window cills and frames , single prime skirtings, sticks, apron , handrail and newel posts. There's an additive I put in my primer which makes the primer harder , easier to gloss and makes the gloss stay shinier for much longer. Touch up any making good to walls and ceilings to the tailgate walls and upstairs rooms, then spray walls and ceilings to a finish , then do the same downstairs. I use a graco fflp 310 tip for woodwork and blue ltx 517 tip for walls and ceilings. All the spraying is done on the same day, what I like to do is to oilbase undercoat handrail, skirting, apron and newel posts just the hose drags around these areas. By the you shouldn't need to rub in-between coats the frames will be smooth, when you spray the walls next to the frame angle your spray gun so you don't slaughter the face of the frames. Any overspray you do get on the face of the frames when you rub down before you loss literally just falls off due to the additive in the primer , by the way it's only a light rub to Di nib the woodwork and remove emulsion. Hope this helps
Thanks Colin, Just subscribed to the channel as I have just purchased the GX21 and Ultra handheld to redecorate my house. Just doing all the prep work but watching as many UA-cam videos as I can to get as many tips as I can. Most video's show new builds but I'm going to need to mask up the carpet, any tips for that? Keep up the videos, very watchable
Cool vid mate 👍 I’m spraying acrylic undercoat with a 310 fine finish but after I’ve glossed up doors look a little orange peel finish, I’m not sure if I should thin it out more?
You do get a slight orange peel affect with the tips but it's hard to say without seeing your doors , there's a few things you could do to make sure you lessen the orange peel affect. Make sure your tip is not worn, change your gun filter to a fresh filter and if that does not work try using a 308 that will give you a finner finish.

Ok how much water are you adding to the primer undercoat ?. And how long have you be been using the tip ? I'm just trying to eliminate some of the things it could be .
Try adding more water to the primer undercoat. I add 1 litre of water to 5 litres of primer and that's in a spray machine , I found that I had to use more water with the ultra than the spray machine. Also what you might find if you move quicker and try to spray about 5 inches from your wood work the paint won't be so concentrated in the areas that your spraying. I hope that helps you
All depends on what gun you've got if you've got a graco ftx gun then you would need a blue filter. If you have a tritech gun then you would use the yellow filters. Basically you would use the next filter down from the one you emulsion with.i always thin my paint down , usually it's 1 litre of water to 5 litres of acrylic primer.
I'm using crown acrylic primer undercoat, and I put the top coat on the old fashion way by brush. I haven't figured out a way of putting gloss without spending the time and money to mask it all up
Have you ever encountered tiny pin holes? A lot of us painters Down here in Australia who are spraying oil based top coat, for the cheaper builders we don’t mask around the the architraves, just sand a little bit and cut in twice, for the doors I have made up som jigs ( narrow lengths of timber) screwed on top of the doors, so the doors sit off the wall , I use a air assisted airless for spraying oil because all of my jobs have 20 to 30 doors normally, warning spraying oil is sticky and smelly not fun
Artie6937 I haven't sprayed ant oilbase gloss yet only waterbase top coats, so I don't really know about the pin holing, I'm guessing the emulsion is reacting against the the gloss. Do you use an air assisted airless to spray on all your woodwork or just the doors ? and how bad is the pin holing your getting on the walls where you've oversprayed with the gloss ? I've been toying with the idea of getting an air assisted airless sprayer but I weren't sure whether it would of been cost effective or not.
Every time I sprayed acrylic, I have used just regular airless Graco 1095 , when I normally spray oil I use a Wagner f230 aircoat, doors and architraves skirting by brush depends on size, anyway when I spray oil on acrylic you can see big pin holes, so I would spray more paint until it fills in looks ok, but oil has dried it has tiny pin holes if you put lights or especially down light it looks like dust ... I would rather spray acrylic it would speed up the process and less fumes. do you apply 2coats of oil based on your wood work ? Cheers mate 👍

Colin do you spray to a finish or brush and roll for final coats?
Brush and roller on the final coat mate
Do you take your doors off to spray them?
No i leave them on , if it was my own job I would price up for taking the doors off and rehanging them once they've been painted
Looks good
Cheers my man
Anytime, do you use Twitter or business Fb
No , I'm not even on Facebook, kind of bad really.
