You two are amazing! Traffic, hot weather, a headwind and carrying bikes upstairs! Riding in weather like that is tough! Cool cafes, especially the first one! Be safe and have fun!
Congrats to both of you for completing the first day, and especially to Thuong. I know a lot of male riders who are strong cyclists, and I don't think they could have done that ride. I'm looking forward to seeing day 2.
Amazing accomplishment on day one of your backpacking adventure, Cruise and Thuong! Riding 160K in the intense heat and cross/headwinds is no joke! 👏👏👏
Thuong's English keeps getting better. Great vid - really hot weather must be hard. I burn easily as well, always a struggle. I find that going out early helps a bit as the UV index is lower.
Finding your videos couldn't come at a better time. I had bariatric sleeve surgery so I have been bicycling for exercise and now ive been hooked on cycling. So now I have a goal where i'm training and preparing myself for next year to ride from New York City to Albany on the Empire State trail. Your videos are inspirational Thank you.
Well done you two ! It is pretty hard yo keep motivated in such crushing heat ! Try switching to aero gloves which have longer cuffs and are easy to slip on and off. They are terrific to avoid getting nastily burnt by the sun. I could not manage otherwise.
It looks like a great tour . . . in wintertime. You two are made of strong stuff. I do my daily rides early to be back inside before the feels-like temperature climbs to 30 C. The food looks tasty. Time to visit a Vietnamese restaurant! 🙂 Stay safe and keep the videos coming.
Some hotels here in the Philippines also have the window to the shower feature. We rode 100k here in the central Philippines yesterday, so I can relate to the heat and humidity you guys are experiencing . Enjoying your tour so far.😊
Thanx. You both did well in the heat. I envy you as I cannot be outside stationary above 34C much less riding. I am in Ontario your next door neighbour of Michigan.
I probably mentioned this before, (In reference to your feed stops) I think cyclists appreciate a proper meal after a proper bike ride more than any other. In fact, thinking about it motivates me as I’m out training. On another note, I think you mentioned something about handlebar ends. I have them on my retro mountain bike. They feel natural in the hands. I love them and wish they would bring them back. Lastly, if I road in 40C heat with humidity, I would melt like Jabba the Hutt on tarmac! Heat is my arch-nemesis. Keep those arm covers on, no doubt!
Great job you two, looked brutal going in that heat. it is amazing how a headwind can effect your time. My wife and I did a ride that took us two hours each way (also with overnight stay at a hotel), so the next time we rode that route we planned on a two hour ride time. but the headwind all the way increased our ride to over four hours, and the next day on the ride home the wind had changed direction, was resulted in a headwind all the way home with more gradients, increasing the ride to four and a half hours. luckily we was not tied to a schedule, but it shows the impact the wind can have.
Yeah, it can really be huge especially if you keep riding in the same direction for the whole ride. It's the worst when the headwind follows you each day, which of course happened to us 😂
Awesome! Thank you for taking us with you guys on this trip! Made me dream of riding in Vietnam on this Sunday morning in Canada. Looking forward for the next videos. Ride safe!
It's way too hot over there rn. Be happy you're in Canada! A nice cool mid 20s celcius with a breeze here in Quebec City. Nothing better. Cant wait to be back in Vietnam when its reasonable in DN around November-March
I look forward to every episode! You've managed your pace pretty well for that distance 💪 Small note: red is a good color as it doesn't absorb sun's energy, black sleeves maybe not 😅 You can google the effect of heat on different t-shirt colors to see all colors.
Both of you are champs for doing this! Be sure to apply sunscreen every hour or two that's how I survive here in Indonesia by cycling everywhere. I haven't done any bikepacking myself but I am jealous!
I was on a bike trail once with my face completely covered by a couple of those tubes on my head and neck (I think it was getting cold at the end of a sunny day) plus sunglasses and I audibly spooked a woman walking when she turned around as I passed. 😱
What happened to the common N to S winds?? LOL.. Real nice start otherwise. Disappointing you just blew thru Quang Ngai. Like I said, her full top tube bag wouldn't last long. I was also doing a 100 mile ride in 11 hours when you were sleeping that morning.
Looks like an efficient set-up I'm wondering if you've tried a single wheel trailer like the Yakima trailers, and if so do you think they might be a better option than panniers? I Use a 'Yak' single wheel trailer occasionally and it's pretty aerodynamic compared to strapping bags on the front and sides of the frame and seems to make the bike more stable.
Look forward to u tub tonight.pleased your able to do u tub soon we are expecting our soon to be American 🇺🇸 em Thuong a great lady personally a great sister a young lady !keep up your cycling u tubs make sure English is on your thoughts you have a professional in home English instructor a good gentleman good Man!!!!paul
From a cycling perspective the video is excellent but I do wonder how Thuong is really doing on what many women and even men would regard as quite a two wheel crucible in all that heat. Stay safe.
@@amyl7113 I wouldn’t take my beautiful wife/girlfriend on a grueling bicycle touring trip. Not so sure I would take myself on a trip like this. Thuong looks quite distressed at the little restaurant stop at around 12:35. She held up way better than I would have. So no misogyny here just calling them as I see them.
@@dolittle6781 Some men and women chose to push themselves on a bike! I'm glad Cruise and Thuong seem to be enjoying their first bike tour, and it's to be expected that you'd eventually end up a little distressed after a hard effort on the bike in this sort of heat. Suggesting that Thuong (who seems to be an incredibly capable and strong cyclist) is somehow not as suited to bike touring because *she is a woman* - that is what I take offence at. If anything she should be more acclimated to the heat as she has been in Vietnam the whole time, while Cruise has been in the States for a stretch.
You thought she suffered here, just wait till you see the next video 😂 the heat was worse than we imagined, but we gradually found a rhythm and got used to it. Overall, we’re both really glad we did this trip while we could
Hey cruise i have a question im 18 and wanna start cyclling but i have a vintage apollo bike from 1980s i know a modern bike his better but does this affect speed and how tired i would be that much?
In no way is this a criticism, but living in Da Nang you should have known the prevailing wind, which seems to blow incessantly, blows roughly (what an appropriate word that is ;) ) south to north, so you were always going to get a head wind. I've ridden that road so many times (Honda, not bicycle these days) and not once has it been wind free. Hope the rest of the ride was without incident (writing 20 July)
We've ridden this first part a lot too and the wind can go either way. Looked it up the day before and it said it would be a tailwind, but no luck this time.
till today i am still in mystery to think why when we got expose by sun so much it make our skin darker. if human body try to adapt why it not turn the opposite tone like become more brighter, what i understand light color will deflect light more and make it more cooler. this thing puzzling me why. for me the color is already being permanent because i did not wear cloth a lot when work under the sun.

What a fantastic couple. I don’t know much Vietnam places and cultures. because of your amazing videos i learned something new. Enjoy your time.

Very educational and entertaining! Safe travels! I can't wait to see the next episode!

160. !!! She is amazing.
💪
I have been in Đà Nẵng 1973 in this beach reminds me when I was 20 yrs old working at the airport. Just a memory only.
Hey Safe travels you two 🤙🇬🇧
Thank you!
Nice to see more of Vietnam
i would highly recommend to put on a anti-sway stabilizer for the road bike, it will seriously help to stable the backpack on road bike.
Thanks, that sounds like it’d be helpful

🥰 Muito Bom Gostei demais de assistir!

Feels so good once the sun goes down
I'm in Danang now! It's so hot!! 🤣
Looking forward to the Fireworks festival this weekend!
Haha welcome! 😂 I'm not joking when I complain in our videos about how hot and humid it is here.
love the bikepacking series.
😁
Great video 😊
Thanks! 😊

I’ve never tried them, but they look like a good option to carry more or larger items.
"Good morning Vietnam!" Where did I hear that before? Lol.
cool vlog! it looks like nice bike coffee shops there. You guys brave, why don't you start riding early like 5am when heat is not that bad?
Because we were still getting ready until around midnight 😂 It's also nice to finish the ride when it's cooling down

From a cycling perspective the video is excellent but I do wonder how Thuong is really doing on what many women and even men would regard as quite a two wheel crucible in all that heat. Stay safe.
Are you suggesting women are particularly unsuited to bikepacking and touring in hot conditions? Unbelievably misogynistic.

Those bikes are still fast. The main disadvantage is less space for larger more comfy tires
18:36 neck gaiter
You should have started with these earlier, tho maybe you can do some in US 😅 fun to watch
Yes, always worried about heat and logistics but glad we finally did it

How much was the hotel in US dollars please ?
About $12 USD
Hard bikepacking day. temperature, headwind and still an average speed of 23.6 over 160 kilometers
It was a pretty hard day especially with the heat and wind
Was this trip after we met?
Yes, this was in May
Let's go
The heat is also gonna cause your heart rate to rise. The weather looks brutal.
Yeah, Vietnamese summer heat is brutal
😮
😃👍

I bet that bag on one side at the back feels odd - lopsided
Don't notice it at all while riding
Hopefully you're learning to eat more regularly - smaller snacks, more often; eat before you're hungry.
Yes, very important and hard to do in the heat
Buon appetito
