They never averaged over a million viewers. The first few weeks it started at 1.4 and dropped to 1.1mil. Then after that it averaged 900k with a million here & there for big events. Punk's segments were the only times they got a million.😄

@@gabrielagent20that's just how it works. It's a big ratings thing for a debut to see who it is and what they may do but once they're on for a while it wears off unless you're a big name like Punk who was consistent with views.
Bad storytelling and booking, bad wrestling aside, their biggest issue is a complete inability to build, market and promote STARS. Nobody under their roof feels special outside mjf who is injured forever. Danielson and Edge are just guys on the roster.
When they can build someone, they do the opposite. Look how many matches Jericho wins without putting his opponents over.

My guess is Tony has been made an offer but it's not an increase. That's why we're getting even more ridiculous hot shoting than usual. Tony, not understanding how television works, thinks that if he can just pop a million for the occasional segment he will get the rights fee increase his ego so desperately craves. Unfortunately that isn't how TV works in 2024 and even if it was, his hot shoting isn't popping a million viewer segments so Tony is fucked coming and going on that one. I kinda hope TBS just turns around and says "Fuck it, we don't want you at any price. The pizza slice, blood drinking, audience attrition and fuck awkward hugs make it not worth it." That way we can be treated to the spectacle of Tony Khan and the Bucks trying to hock $9.99 weekly IPPVs which will be objectively hilarious in their awfulness.

My job involves boiler inspections and calculating the capacities of the relief valves that they require; and I watch AEW whenever I have trouble sleeping.

Edge was a name in WWE. Adam Copeland is a name no one gives a shit about. It’s the same guy, but it’s not the same character.
The character of Edge has so much equity for the WWE audience.
The character of Adam Copeland is just a watered down version of Edge and nobody in that audience wants to see that guy.

For anybody curious, without Q1 and the overrun, the rating was actually 707k on average.
WBD are apparently looking to cut costs. AEW getting low balled is looking more and more likely.

Yeah Vince played favorites now it shows whose the real talent without being overly pushed and produced. Good for Christian though he deserves the recognition after years of being considered less than.
I always thought that Christian was the better wrestler than Edge/Adam even early in their careers. Edge just had more star quality...and had the size advantage that Vince loves. By the mid 2000s, however, the gap had begun to close. From around 2009/10 to now Christian has been both more charismatic and a better wrestler.

I liked the Christian thing at first. Now he has delivered the same promo 259 times in a row. His smarmy look is good though.
I imagine that people inside AEW tell Tony the ratings are down and he just blankly stares at them with those big eyes, like he doesn't even know what language they're trying to speak to him in. It must be unsettling trying to actually explain anything to a man-shaped hole in the fabric of existence, incapable of comprehending that the product is not great.
Their mistake is using the sentence "it's not great tony" cos all he heard was great.

Edge grew distant with wwe and then he did the same with the fans sadly. In his prime he wasn’t really the best in the ring, now at 50 I’m just not sure what I’m supposed to think when I see him.
I never really got it with Edge as a solo act. His spear was always weak, he was never big enough to look plausible using it as a finisher, his promos and edgy (pun intended) character were like 90% of his appeal back when he got over in the Brood.
Him and Christian together is money, even today, Adam Copeland on his own is just a bean pole without even the edge he used to have.

@@bipolarminddroppings Edge was great at one point. Probably the top heel of the late 2000s, he knew what it took to be a heel and not look too cool or get cheered doing it. I think it worked when he first came back to WWE too. He should’ve just wrapped it up after a two year victory lap there though, there’s just nothing left for him to prove or do.
I feel that once Edge got into his groove as a main event heel, he seemed to make out pretty well for himself amd proved worthy of the position but I also believe that without Lita's nuclear heat to leech off of, in the early days, he may very well have floundered and been pushed back down the card before he really got started. Early main event heel Edge just felt awkward to me, like he wasn't quite ready for that yet and it might just be me but before the Lita/Matt/Edge thing exploded, it didn't seem like the general audience was quite buying Edge as a main event heel either.
Then again I suppose Mark Henry got 43 chances before he finally pulled off that Hall of Pain run. If Edge didn't have Lita, if they were really committed to him, he'd have probably gotten more chances later on.
He was always shite and needed Christian. I used to think it was the other way around.

I was never big on burying Meltzer, but this year with AEW struggling he has been out of his mind. He will talk about AEW's ratings and find some positive spin to make it sound like they aren't in a state of decline at all and with WWE its "they've cooled off since their biggest show ever".

Hugs are a currency for Tony Khan. You give him a hug and you're paid up for a month. It's a tell tale sign of his upbringing as a lonely kid, his peers wouldn't have taken him seriously just because he was a wrestling fan (and very awkward.) I think Daddy Khan knows his son is socially awkward (he's not blind) so he told him not to be a character on the show. But now he's doing it anyway, Shad must be extremely embarrassed. Tony has no awareness of how childlike he actually is.

Whenever he does facetime style calls and interviews he comes across as little boy in little man's body and all that's missing is some tiny helicopter blades on his baseball cap and he'd have the spectrum look down to a Tee.

Not true. Chuck Taylor had the ankle injury that eventually caused his retirement, in October of last year. You don't get avascular necrosis in your foot from injuries in one or two matches.
The angle was just to get him off television with somewhat of an "in-storyline" explanation. Retirement is probably the smartest thing he could have done. He's had a 22-year career as a pro wrestler - and it's not as if WWE is going to hire a 38-year-old who will most likely need an artficial ankle sooner than later.

I remember people said give it 5-10 years because no company starts off white hot. I pointed out how they should because of the YT age and the beginning should be the best because of the honeymoon effect. I'm not sure why people thought they would do better with a 5 year old Mox, Jericho and etc.
The best thing about Edge in AEW is that the clip of Heymans all time greatest promo on ECW is on UA-cam and we can watch it any time. Hide your wives!

I was in the hospital with nothing better to do and even I turned it off after an hour

Cornette draws more viewers than he biggest storyline in AEW history. Even without OceanSpreay in the show they continue to push "Super" Pockets, the DoucheBucks, JeriBloat, and all the ratings cancers. Hell, you had the "Main Event" and people started to change the channel thinking it was over, only to have 3 awful segments involved Copeland, Manure Moans, and the Elite. Worst of all they teased big partners for FTR, in Football Fuckery and it's just Danielson and Burger Kingston, who managed to get his fat ass hurt at the New Japan show. So that means he'll be replaced by the Drunk Hobo Moxley.
Dismal. The only way out for AEW would be if they ignored their worst impulses but those are built around the biggest egos and THEIR impulses. So unless they want to upset them (they don't) they'll never change. And even if they did it would take quite a while to build up the goodwill again, save for someone brand new or some mega star debuting
They could do something neither the WWE does: make some surprising finishes where the obvious star loses a match...

AEW might have lucked out with the reports that TNT has lost the NBA rights, which means TNT might re-sign AEW to the rights deal. Whether or not they get that big billion dollar deal they’ve been clamoring for remains to be seen…WBD would be dumb to give them a raise when all of the company’s metrics are down across the board
I can see Warner bros saying they don't need AEW. They'd get more ratings showing a microwave that's not in use for 2 hours.

Three years of missed opportunities and chasing off their biggest star, this is the result.
I was too young to experience the dying days of WCW..I was around 6 or 7 so I didnt understand what was going on obviously. Glad to be here for the downfall of AEW happening in real time on a weekly basis. I'll give it another 6 months until the average drops further to roughly 500K.
