I have my Polaroid go camera and I noticed the colors are warmer and even faded since 1 year Fuji is always consistent cooler colors and works better I love both but with Fuji I can even guess how it will come out I hope Polaroid can make a better formula I use both
Imo polaroid would not be much competition for the Instax if not for the nostalgia factor coz rn instax is objectively better than polaroid in everyway except for camera variety. As mentioned in your video whether its cost, quality of film, consistency or film storage requirements instax has polaroid beat literally the only thing mentioned in the video that the polaroid has the edge over instax that is not subject to personal preferences and bias is camera variety. The polaroid hype was before my time so I have no nostalgia bias towards polaroid. Awesome video though loved it!
Are there differences in ISO? Differences in resolution? Are the B&W versions any different to color in terms of sharpness etc? So many questions not addressed here.
The instax is a better system. I pulled out my wide camera that i haven't touched in 15 yrs and shot a pic that turned out good. Didn't even put new batteries in it. Polaroid just has too many issues, super sensitive to light when it comes out of the camera, it's very temp sensitive and so on. But as time progresses on it will get better.... Side note, i watched a documentary about Polaroid and one of their chemists said temperature affects the film because it changes the thickness of the developing paste. Thinner and it favors one color and thicker it favors the other...hence why you get overly blue or pink images. Also side note just bought a Now Gen 2 so going to play with Polaroid again...last Polaroid i used was the Sun camera... My first camera (6 yrs old) was a Polaroid that you had wait 30 sec and then peal the negative and positives apart. That was a great camera. Further follow up. Used the new polaroid and not a single picture came out reasonable. Everything was very contrasty and with very little dynamic range. Gave up on Polaroid and moved onto a Instax SQ6 and an Instax Mini 90. I did contact polaroid and they say that my pics were normal.
IMO the point of instant photography is the imperfections of it. Normally I'd say that's a bad thing, but that's why I also have a DSLR. Instax looks too much like digital to me, while Polaroid has so many quirks that affect how the photo will turn out. I love how temperature can influence the color for example, or what you do while it's developing. It really embraces the playful aspect of film photography.
Personally, I couldn't decide on just one film type, so now I have both 😂 (Impulse AF, Supercolor 635CL, 1000 for Polaroids... And SQ1 and Lomo’Instant Wide for Instax)
Now a harder question 😅: I bought the Goose! So now with buying the right back , I can shoot either of these 😊 So now all variables are gone and it only comes down to the quality of the film 😅 So now should I get a Polaroid back for it or an Instax back !!! ( imagine I scan them and play with shadows etc too ) Emily Soto is using Polaroid back , I assume she does extensive testing and decided but yeah
instax in general is very forgiving to newbies! when i was just learning with using instax i stored an unfinished cartridge and used it in another instax and it still works just weird blue green tinge effect lol thats how i learned 😅
I just bought a Mini 7s the other day and had no idea why, mainly cause its stupidly cheap. But shooting with it after a while, I learned the best way to utilize it is to shoot it horizontally so you get that W I D E shot makeing it like a mini wide film camera ( totally not ). So thats why it makes perfect sense that the first mini Instax camera has two shutter buttons, one placed in front as usual and the second on the side of the camera.
I love my Instax mini 90. Shots usually come out clear and colorful. For an instax camera it has a lot of creative control too! Really curious about the new NONS SL660 tho. The larger format and extended creative options look promising.... Or maybe it's time to splurge on a 680 XD Thanks for another great video!
Just bought my first Instax mini Just wanted to dip my toes into this hobby Didn’t want to spend too much if I am bad and also do not enjoy it but it’s a good start Subscribed like your videos mate
Take away the “Polaroid Nostalgia” and there’s nothing it can hold up to Instax. Instax : Is Cheaper Has Better colors Can be shot in harsh weathers Has More photos per pack Has More formats Film last longer No need to babysit There’s printers There’s hybrid cameras There’s fully Manual Camera Options These are facts not opinions
I like Instax because of the printer option - I have a mini link 2 and can print from my phone or direct from my Fujifilm camera! The mini size is good for journaling. I will probably get the other two sized printers over time
Mini evo is just a "steal the show" stopper. Mirror view at any glass bar on Sepia is interactive and.. if you like the shot, gift the pic. Something to hold on to. Next ers please!
I went to every rtv agd supermarket in my city, everyone of them carried instax film (mini and square, no wide) and none of them had any type of polaroid film. Only one shop had polaroid camera - one step 2 (with very nice price - 320pln, 75-80 euro). In my country (Poland) instax film is at least x2 cheaper than polaroid itype if you buy polaroid in the biggest pack and it can get to x3 cheaper if you want to buy film one pack at a time. So now I only have to choose which instax I'm gonna buy - easily available sq1 or hunt for sq6 that is at least x2 more expensive for both cameras used.
I've had quite a few disappointments with how my polaroids turned out (most likely bc of cold temp exposure and the film itself being expired) so I bought instax square to see how it goes. I still love polaroid tho, I got a vintage one from my parents, their pictures have way better quality than mine tho😭
Why doesnt my itype film pack not fit into my slr680? I even cut the tabs on the bottom. I put a battery on the pack but thats not whats preventing it from going in.
I started using Polaroid when it was the peel film. In the 80's I got an SX 70. I have SX photos than are now over 20 yeas old and they still look good. I still have that SX and it still works fine. I now also own the Polaroid I type camera. Nice they brought back the film but its not as good as the original. It's thicker (so only 8 vs. 10 pics) has to be out of sunlight to develop, and takes way longer to develop, and film does not store well. I don't know how long the images will keep but time will tell. I still use my SX70 but I also have an Instax Wide. I mostly use the Instax but I hope Polaroid will get better and lower their cost.
You let me down, take a risk and pick a side. That’s why we came here, to see if someone can actually reach his own conclusions and pick which one is better
i wonder what most of the people in the comments get out of instant photography. while yes, fuji is better in looks and ease of use if i wanted fuji looking photos i would take the photos with my phone and print them out later, that'll give me the same results. for me polaroid is better because of out temperamental it is and how much care needs to be put into it plus the photos look more vintage which is the main selling point to me, fuji photos look TOO good. in todays day and age why would i want a perfect looking photo when i can get that in several other ways? thats not the point of instant photography to me. only thing ill 100% agree with is the price point, fuji is way better on that front
There isn't even a contest, Instax wins. Better color, less susceptible to heat or cold, better cameras, better formats and it's cheaper and ubiquitous. It's such an easy question, bish bash bosh. lol Also better control with Polariod cameras PUH-LEAZE, Lomography, Nons SLR, and Mint make cameras with glass lenses and waaaaay more control than any Polaroid camera offers. I've even got an old Polaroid 110A that's been converted to Instax Wide and the colours and sharpness is honestly mind boggling for an instant format. Plus being able to do long exposure with an Instant camera (which any Lomography Instax camera can do or any of the other ones I listed) is incredible. That honestly was what really sold me on the slightly more expensive Lomo cameras, that and glass lenses. Also don't me wrong I have two Polaroid cameras on my shelf but personally I'm not really into pinkish photo's that are always a bit underwhelming so they tend to just sit on my shelf. I used to have a regular old One-Step boxy 600 camera when I was younger though and I mean you said it yourself the new stock just doesn't compare. If new Polaroid would sort out their formula and start offering 10 shots a pack for a slightly more reasonable price then maybe I'd shoot it more but until then I only break it out for special occasions because the film is so unreliable and expensive.
@@JustAnotherChris Oh for sure, at least the third party ones. I'll give you that the main Fuji ones are a bit bleh but the Lomography cameras are impressive with the amount of control you have over the image for a point and shoot. I do wish Lomo would make a wide with a glass lens but the version of the Automat with the glass lens is freaking incredible. I can take photos indoors with no lighting except whats coming in the windows (and my house is not bright) and they come out like I'd expect a digital or 35mm camera to do (Exposure wise I mean). Sure you can't use your phone with them but it's an analog format and personally I didn't even carry a phone until just a few months ago. lol
For me, Instax is a better option My reasons: Cheaper (more obvious reason) It only takes about a minute for the picture to develop I prefer the practicality in film that doesn't need to be babysat and just works
I got a fujifilm instax 210 wider camera for my birthday in july. Like brand new box and plastic still amd everything! I am looking for a Polaroid one step plus the one with bluetooth/the red button on top- willing to trade!!
Mate you’ve got me interested since I saw your Heaton vid this morning I think I’m gonna try the instax square for now. 59 years old been shooting photos since I was a young teen ya never stop learning 📸❤️ thanks for the inspiration
Polaroids (600/SX70 vs Square) win in size, thickness, tangibility (see previous) true black and white, and has the one of the best camera's ever made. Instax is more consistent...I mean WAAAY more consistent pack to pack, batch to batch, and is cheaper. But even with my Frankenstax back for the RB67, the Monochrome Instax doesn't look right and can go green, the colors are a little to "FP100C" for me When you get a good batch of Polaroid color or BW, it's really hard to beat. I just wish they would get better consistency and maybe go to a less contrasty negative.
Excellent video. I think Polaroid go a little far back than 70's ...in our family we have pics from me as a baby circa 64. The camera was the type that you had to pull the pic out. Thanks for all good info here.
Nice video. "Best" is subjective. Ive tried multiple times and just can't get into Polaroid. Dont like the cameras and hate the film. You have to baby it before using it, while youre using it and after you've used it and they sill always look way off and not anywhere close to real colors. Some people do like them though. I have 2 Lomo and 3 Fuji Instax films and love them all.
heart says totally polaroid but looks like it just isn't the brand it was (quite literally). I understand the nostalgia, but I guess for a newbie who's just starting, needing a good enough device just to get the look of the hobby, instax is totally the choice.
Neither film is more superior than the other, I think it comes down to the hardware. The SX-70/680 will be the most optimal experience for Polaroid. Either the Lomograflok, Mint RF70, or a modded Polaroid 110, FP-1, or Konica instant press will be the best way to shoot instax.
Guys I have a polaroid go but I just got it and I was wondering if I can only use polaroid film in it or I can put other brand's films.. For the amount of film you get The price of polaroid film is very expansive
Thats why you have both. Dont get why people feel the need to chose. If you can only afford one, look at some pics and see wich ones you prefer is my best tips ❤❤
I think the color saturation and accuracy of Instax beats Polaroid hands down, and this is coming from someone who worked for Polaroid in camera repair back in the late 70's!
The big thing about the Polaroid was that you didn't have to sent the film out to be developed. In that way it was "instant." So if you didn't get the shot the first time you had a change to get it again. The advent of digital cameras brought about it's downfall.
Just purchased a MINT slr680 from Canada for $315 cad! So cheap for what it is I hope it arrives in good shape and I don’t get a literal brick in the mail lol but it was worth the risk at that price I check every day and can’t wait to receive it lol says sept. 15th hoping that’s an over estimate 🤣 I have a spare sx-70 that I’m considering getting coated black then I would swap the slr680 into the metal shell and have a metal slr 680!!!! The iltimate instant camera imo! But I might instead wait for a broken sonar model to pop up so I can also retain my tripod mount hole
I shoot polaroid, buuttttt thats mainly because I have a polaroid sx-70 camera which I found in a dumpster and had restored so now I'm to emotionally invested into to shoot a different film lol
That polaroid film is not from the og company but a rebrand of impossible project. I ditched their film packs when they were first introduced due to it being unstable. Ugh! Do they ever fade after sometimes now? Do they still promote their gimmicks to people to be creative such as adding additional accessories such as nd filters or frog tongue to shield or keep it warm or cool for different results? Its a waste of money. I suppose they still havent figure out how to put 8 exposure in a pack still to this day.
I have the same opinion as many of the comments, Both are great. I do find it is easier to get good images with the Instax than with a polaroid. For shooting Instax, I currently only have an Instax mini, would like to get a camera that shoots Instax wide. Any suggestions?
For an instax wide camera I would get a Fuji instax wide210 it’s older but it has all the same features as their “new” one. Here is my review on it. ua-cam.com/video/DJnB-0Q1ChM/v-deo.html
Gotta disagree here. There is an answer. Instax film is just better. It's temperature stable, it's less expensive, it's more predictable, and it develops faster. But Polaroid cameras are absolutely superior pieces of equipment. (Also, I dislike that you can't write on the back of Instax prints.)
Instax is better film, but the polaroids are better cameras. 😢😢😢 The polaroid film actually is in progress of upgrade but isn't very good. Vamos que la peli instax se pasa por la piedra a la peli de polaroid pero la sx70 de polaroid sigue siendo la mejor camara instantanea que hay ( excepto la leica) es una pena.
@JustAnotherChris the flexibility of using both an analog camera and printing from the instax wide printer. Pretty sweet editing s quick shot from an X-t1, sending it to my phone, then printing copies for ppl. The downside being theirs only the one fuji camera right now, I think Edit to say- I have the lomo wide, it's OK. I don't like Fujitsu "300". Looking for a cheap graphlex 4x5 and the lomo back or fun.
@JustAnotherChris well, it's sharper and I like the color rendition. As mentioned before, the instax wide Printer is king. Have you gotten a chance to use it?
@@JustAnotherChris price, consistency, availability, colour reproduction is closer to what you see in viewfinder. Easier to handle for newbies. For cameras, there’s lots of third party options for those who are more comfortable with manual control. Plus a fair range from Fujifilm themselves. Including hybrid options like the Evo. If someone were looking to get into the hobby I’d steer them to instax/Fuji. Allllll that said, I 100% get the appeal of Polaroid and want them to keep doing well and keep succeeding. We need both companies doing healthy business in the space. And I also agree that Polaroid film has a certain feeling/appeal that doesn’t show up “on paper.” I’d just caution folks to make sure they enjoy running Fuji instax (maybe a 200 or 300 or sq6) first.

instax in general is very forgiving to newbies! when i was just learning with using instax i stored an unfinished cartridge and used it in another instax and it still works just weird blue green tinge effect lol thats how i learned 😅
It really is!
Or maybe it's time to splurge on a 680 XD
Thanks for another great video!
Been curious about that sl660 as well that that hefty price tag is steering me away
I’ve had the mini 90, sq6, instax wide and the mini evo. The mini 90 is the best of all of them.
Just bought my first Instax mini
Just wanted to dip my toes into this hobby
Didn’t want to spend too much if I am bad and also do not enjoy it but it’s a good start
Subscribed like your videos mate
Mini is the best way to go when getting started for sure.
Take away the “Polaroid Nostalgia” and there’s nothing it can hold up to Instax.
Instax :
Is Cheaper
Has Better colors
Can be shot in harsh weathers
Has More photos per pack
Has More formats
Film last longer
No need to babysit
There’s printers
There’s hybrid cameras
There’s fully Manual Camera Options
These are facts not opinions
Hmm what about the cameras? Oh wait I’m sorry CAMERA. There’s only 1 and as you know it’s $$$$$$$
Which has finer grain?
Love your videos.. It stopped me from getting a Polaroid Now+... 😂
Did you do a review on the Instax Mini Evo?
Haha good! No I haven’t. It’s been sold out forever. No restocks yet
Hmm not sure why that would be the case. Should work just fine with that hack
@@JustAnotherChris oh ok. Thanks. I just use 600 film and it works perfectly
Apples and oranges
@@JustAnotherChris then don’t trick people with your video titles to get more views
@Just Another Chris video sucked pick one right now is the reso lution better on Polaroid or Fiji an can Fiji use wide photos
i wonder what most of the people in the comments get out of instant photography. while yes, fuji is better in looks and ease of use if i wanted fuji looking photos i would take the photos with my phone and print them out later, that'll give me the same results. for me polaroid is better because of out temperamental it is and how much care needs to be put into it plus the photos look more vintage which is the main selling point to me, fuji photos look TOO good. in todays day and age why would i want a perfect looking photo when i can get that in several other ways? thats not the point of instant photography to me. only thing ill 100% agree with is the price point, fuji is way better on that front
Polaroid SX70 film is almost impossible to find if you can find it and also very expensive.
Better cameras though?? I would strongly disagree.
Sure you can't use your phone with them but it's an analog format and personally I didn't even carry a phone until just a few months ago. lol
For me, Instax is a better option
My reasons:
Cheaper (more obvious reason)
It only takes about a minute for the picture to develop
I prefer the practicality in film that doesn't need to be babysat and just works
Same! 😁
Thank you for the feedback!
@@JustAnotherChris welcome mate
How do you baby Polaroid film in the field in Florida in July?!
Done a video on just that.
ua-cam.com/video/fzT6Zo6sezY/v-deo.html
Polaroids (600/SX70 vs Square) win in size, thickness, tangibility (see previous) true black and white, and has the one of the best camera's ever made. Instax is more consistent...I mean WAAAY more consistent pack to pack, batch to batch, and is cheaper. But even with my Frankenstax back for the RB67, the Monochrome Instax doesn't look right and can go green, the colors are a little to "FP100C" for me
When you get a good batch of Polaroid color or BW, it's really hard to beat. I just wish they would get better consistency and maybe go to a less contrasty negative.
Excellent video. I think Polaroid go a little far back than 70's ...in our family we have pics from me as a baby circa 64. The camera was the type that you had to pull the pic out. Thanks for all good info here.
I'm trying to put a Kodak brownie hawkeye lens on a canon EOS M3 And I'm trying to figure out how to sucer it to the canon Do you have any suggestions
Yeah I wouldn’t be the guy to talk to about that stuff.
@@JustAnotherChris ok and thanks for replying
Have you done (or will do) a comparison between Polaroid instant film and shooting with iPhone and printing with Instax printer?
Hmm that would make for an interesting video.
How do you get the digital of your Polaroid / instal photos?
I scan them. I have some a few videos on how to do just that.
Your chanel is awesome men you are gonna grow fast thumbs up from spain
Thank you! Means a lot!
Amazing videos and content man. Keep it up.
Thank you!
First polaroids were in the late 60s, but were black and white and you had to roll a chemical substance over the exposed film.
Would you recommend the Instax mini 9 or 11?
Honestly either would be just fine
Hey Man I need help finding a camera that takes the best photos for decent price for a hobbies.
The best instant photography film camera’s to buy in 2023
ua-cam.com/video/0As2D8LUVaE/v-deo.html
HOW DO YOU GET RON SWANSON POLAROID
I made it!
Hi! Thank you for the video! I wonder if you have something on : moving the image from the picture to a paper for instax? Thank you in advance 💚
What do you think about instax mini 11, is it worth buying?
Absolutely.
in my neighborhood walmart has polaroid 600 i type and go film they also have polaroid go cameras and polaroid now
Guys I have a polaroid go but I just got it and I was wondering if I can only use polaroid film in it or I can put other brand's films.. For the amount of film you get The price of polaroid film is very expansive
No one else makes for it other than Polaroid
Thats why you have both. Dont get why people feel the need to chose.
If you can only afford one, look at some pics and see wich ones you prefer is my best tips ❤❤
Great video! What are your thoughts on ZINK? New to all of this so interesting to see the pros and cons of these different film types.
ZINK isn’t my favorite for overall Image quality but it’s fun to shoot with the Polaroid mint.
I‘d like to go for instax because of the price, but I just hate the size so bad
Yeah it’s a hard call
Don’t forget instax has the solarization issue with bright lights
is the polaroid film also iso 800?
600/itype polaroid film is iso 640 and SX70 film is iso 160
this guy is the goat in making polaroid vids!
I shoot with both of them and I can't answer this question. I appreciate both.
Right? It’s not an easy one to answer
I think the color saturation and accuracy of Instax beats Polaroid hands down, and this is coming from someone who worked for Polaroid in camera repair back in the late 70's!
When you said people are very anal about film storage I bursted out laughing I haven’t heard that in so long LOLLLLLL
7:07 big corridor fan?
Was driving through one day and had to snap a photo
I hate instax film because I had a photo of me with instax and it started to turn black and my photo of me ona. Poloroid is still there
The big thing about the Polaroid was that you didn't have to sent the film out to be developed. In that way it was "instant." So if you didn't get the shot the first time you had a change to get it again. The advent of digital cameras brought about it's downfall.
Its such a great video providing knowledge.
Thank you! Did you have any major take aways?
I have both. Polaroid is fun but in my experience fujifilm is more reliable.
Film photography is so interesting but prohobitively expensive for me so I'm just sticking with my phone camera...
You do that
Great work, and
great insights!
Thank you!
If the market speaks, and it does, the competition will force competitors to evolve, for better.
bro gave us 10 minutes of anti-content to make that double digit video cheese lmao
Fr now I’m really having a argument with my head on what to choose to buy😂
@@study7794 Instax comes out better way more times than Polaroids. From experience, I feel like Polaroids gap of learn is bigger than instax
@@angopi98 are they both the same photo sizes for both cameras? For example is the Instax square size the same as the polariod one?
@@study7794 no, polaroid is quite larger, but the square serves the purpose very well
@@study7794 2nd image of that blog post
Polaroid cameras go back I think at least to the late 1940's. They were common in the 1960's.
yes they do but not this type. this type started in the late 70s
Fuji film is more expensive than Polaroid in my area I can get a 600 count Polaroid for 20 bucks and 120 count a Fujifilm for $100
I just want the polaroid size in a fuji camera😭😭😭😭😭😭
Unfortunately do to copyright laws it can’t happen 😞
I shoot polaroid, buuttttt thats mainly because I have a polaroid sx-70 camera which I found in a dumpster and had restored so now I'm to emotionally invested into to shoot a different film lol
Well there you go!
(Also, I dislike that you can't write on the back of Instax prints.)
hmm seems that you still can't decide on which is better....
@@JustAnotherChris If only we could run Instax film in Polaroid cameras!
(Really enjoying your content, by the way)
Great video thanks.
Thank you! What was your biggest take away?
Instax is better film, but the polaroids are better cameras. 😢😢😢 The polaroid film actually is in progress of upgrade but isn't very good. Vamos que la peli instax se pasa por la piedra a la peli de polaroid pero la sx70 de polaroid sigue siendo la mejor camara instantanea que hay ( excepto la leica) es una pena.
Great video 😊
Thank you!
Instax wide is my favorite
But I always preferred Fuji's Films
And why is that?
@JustAnotherChris the flexibility of using both an analog camera and printing from the instax wide printer. Pretty sweet editing s quick shot from an X-t1, sending it to my phone, then printing copies for ppl.
The downside being theirs only the one fuji camera right now, I think
Edit to say- I have the lomo wide, it's OK. I don't like Fujitsu "300". Looking for a cheap graphlex 4x5 and the lomo back or fun.
Well you can still do that with the polaroid lab 🤔
@JustAnotherChris well, it's sharper and I like the color rendition.
As mentioned before, the instax wide Printer is king. Have you gotten a chance to use it?
@@JustAnotherChris yeah, the lab looks fine. I can take the intax in my bag orva pocket, it's smaller than a DVD drive.
Do the photos fade through time? I read some rant online that instant photos, is it true?
No they don’t. The early impossible project stuff did but that’s a thing of the past.
Good info 👍
That phrase dont make no sense why cant fruit be compared
Because they’re fruit yes but two different kinds of fruits.
Current state, it’s instax. Without a doubt.
Would love to hear why…
@@JustAnotherChris price, consistency, availability, colour reproduction is closer to what you see in viewfinder. Easier to handle for newbies.
For cameras, there’s lots of third party options for those who are more comfortable with manual control. Plus a fair range from Fujifilm themselves. Including hybrid options like the Evo.
If someone were looking to get into the hobby I’d steer them to instax/Fuji.
Allllll that said, I 100% get the appeal of Polaroid and want them to keep doing well and keep succeeding. We need both companies doing healthy business in the space. And I also agree that Polaroid film has a certain feeling/appeal that doesn’t show up “on paper.” I’d just caution folks to make sure they enjoy running Fuji instax (maybe a 200 or 300 or sq6) first.
aaa so that's why modern Polaroid film does not look the same as the original one.
They got their hands on the factory and name but not the formula
The old formula is dead and gone. Not even legally allowed to be used again
@@JustAnotherChris you know why? Why not legal?
